Chapter Text
To be honest, Fuyumi would rather do anything right now than to attend this event. But there was no way her brothers would go, so it was on her to be her father’s plus one. The Hero Gala was packed, there were way too many people , too many lights and too many cameras. The rather uncomfortable dress didn’t make it any better either. With a drink in hand, Fuyumi prefered to stand to the side while her father was being photographed and interviewed. She sighed, wishing her drink was stronger. Letting her gaze wander through the crowd, she wondered how long she had to endure this.
Until their eyes met.
She knows this feeling all too well
she feels her heart begin to swell
Handsome stranger, you have made her insides turn to jelly
She heard of Hawks. Everybody heard of Hawks, it was hard not to. But it was now that she realized she had never seen him. Never met him. It was only one moment of eye contact, but that was all it took to make her forget all the dread she had felt before. Even though he was several feet away, his golden eyes seemed to burn right through her, pulling her in. After she averted her gaze, she could still feel his intense stare on her. Was it hot in here? Her cheeks definitely were.
She couldn’t help but look again, only to find that he already made his way towards her, his red wings parting the crowd surrounding them. Wait, what was he doing, did he actually want to talk to her? She couldn’t imagine why, since there were far more interesting and pretty women at this event, more worthy of a hero's time and attention.
But there he was, standing right in front of her now, with a dashing smile and an even more intense glint in his eyes. Those eyes…Fuyumi hated to admit it but they were absolutely captivating. She wouldn’t mind getting lost in them forever. “Sorry to bother you, Miss Todoroki, I just couldn’t help but notice you. You came here with your father, I presume?”
Fuyumi found herself speechless. He knew her? Okay, that was it, she had to act calm.
“You know me?”, she asked, unable to hide a little voice crack at the end. So much for being calm…
He raised an eyebrow, then gave her another smile, something else she wouldn’t mind seeing every day. “You see, I know your father. He doesn’t talk much, but he told me he had two sons and a daughter. Failed to mention how beautiful you are, though.”
She wants to dance around the room
Kiss you until her lips turn blue
But handsome stranger, you have made her wonder
Is she pretty?
Beautiful? Did he really just say that? He was straight forward, she had to give him that. “Not your most original pickup line, don’t you think?” Admittedly, she was quite proud of herself for that comeback. It seemed to have the right effect, he looked flabbergasted for a short moment, before returning to his usual smugness. “Then I have to try harder, don’t I? Another drink?” And when he offered her his arm, she knew it was over. She had a crush on Hawks.
But it’s too late
She believes in fate
She’s absolutely smitten
She’ll never let you go
Hawks didn’t like suits. They were just nice packaging for rotten personalities. But for an event like this, where he was forced to go, he reluctantly put one on. Like always, he was a good little hero, smiling for every photo and answering every question asked.
Until he saw her. He knew instantly who she was, but the reality turned out to be so much better than his imagination. She was stunning, standing out in her own way. In comparison to most women at this event, her outfit and hair wasn’t as fancy, but she didn’t need it. He couldn’t help but notice her being uncomfortable, standing to the side and staring into the crowd. When their eyes met, he felt it. What did he feel? No clue, but it was something warm and fuzzy, something he definitely never felt before. His feet moved on his own, it was like he was being pulled in by her, like a moth by the light. His mouth also began to speak on his own, saying the first thing that came to his mind. It truly wasn’t the smartest or most charming thing, but she countered it smoothly, despite her blushing cheeks. He gladly took the small victory of making her blush. The joy he felt when she took his arm and let him lead her to get another drink was indescribable, to say the least.
That girl just there, yes, she’s the one
With Cupid’s arrow in her bum
Handsome stranger, you have made her happy
The first in a long time
Both of them knew it: That wasn’t their last meeting. The evening, boring and dreadful at first, ended rather pleasantly, in a lifeful conversation filled with laughter, blushing and longing glances. It also resulted in phone numbers being swapped. This led to many many late night texts, gifs and emojis, until he finally asked her out again. Just like that evening, they talked and laughed and only got closer. Fuyumi knew it was risky dating a pro hero like him, but she didn’t care. She didn’t care what her father thought either, it was her happiness and it shouldn’t matter who was responsible for it.
It was their second date when he kissed her for the first time, his lips warm and addicting. The effect he had on her was unreal, did he know what he was doing to her?
Hawks wasn’t a stranger to kissing. He had been told several times that he was quite good at it, but kissing Fuyumi…it was far different, far better than anything else. He knew it was risky to date the only daughter of Endeavor, the number 1 hero and his idol. But it felt way too good to stop. They had only started dating, but oh how he wished they would never stop doing so. “You know…we only started going out but…I think I fell for you. I did at the Gala and I still am every time I see you, touch you or read a text from you. Sorry if this is a bit sudden, but I can’t help it. I’m hopelessly in love with you, Fuyumi.” Woah, there he went again, his mouth acting before his mind could think. But it was out now, so all he could do was look at her with anxious anticipation, hoping he didn’t fuck it up.
Did you just whisper in her ear?
Words she only dreamed to hear?
Pretty lady, look at how he’s smiling
I think he likes you
But it’s too late
You believe in fate
You’ll never let her go
Fuyumi only smiled at that, already feeling the happy tears making their way onto her warm cheeks. She had been afraid that it was too soon for telling him how she really felt, but hearing him say it first only made her heart melt more, beat even faster.
"I love you too."
But it’s too late
Oh, I believe in fate
I’m absolutely smitten, I’ll never let you go
