At 12 pm sharp HeroTV’s station was taken over by the League of Villains. The process was so clean and efficient that it was thought to be an inside job.
At 12:10 pm, a broadcast went out alerting the public of the takeover. An escaped inmate named Tenjiro Gou was brought in and forcibly given a quirk-boosting drug. His quirk, which gave him the ability to grow claws, quickly went out of control as his claws grew long and his teeth grew sharp. He began to look more like a rabid bear than a man. Before he could attack anyone he was injected with a black liquid. As soon as the fluid entered his bloodstream the inmate started screaming and writhing in pain as his quirk slowly vanished. It was announced that this would happen to a different person every 10 minutes until the villains Hana Aoi a.k.a Zookeeper and Kenshiro Mamoru a.k.a. Mustard were released from Tartarus, cleared of all charges, and delivered safely to the station.
At 12:20 pm, the hero Mr. Heavy, Moriwaki Kohji who had been missing for 2 months was injected with the serum and lost his quirk. This alongside him were 10 other kidnapped heroes that had gone missing over the last 3 months.
At 12:25 pm, the Hero Commission began negotiations and the League agreed to release the station's staff.
At 12:30 pm, a team of heroes was deployed to infiltrate the station. At the same time, a second group began transferring body doubles of Mustard and Zookeeper to the station while the real villains were moved to a hidden location. The two teams, Team A and B, were made of the heroes that were the first to answer the emergency alert. Ochaco Uraraka, a.k.a. Uravity was picked for the rescue team, Team B. This was due to her experience dealing with the League. Team B was estimated to have the highest chance of interacting with the villains so those on the team needed to understand how the League of Villains operated.
Alongside Ochaco was Tenya Iida the Turbo Hero: Ingenium, Fumikage Tokoyami the Jet-Black Hero: Tsukuyomi, and his wife, Tsuyu Tokoyami also known as the Rainy Season Hero: Froppy. While the stakes were high, the lives of the people inside rested in their hands.
Before all of this started the members of team B were actually already together. As they all went U.A. together they had become friends over time. While they didn’t often hang out, Tenya need their help shopping for engagement rings.
“I still think you should sit this one out,” Tsukuyomi said as he and his wife made their way to the station. Ingenium was the fastest of the group so he took Uravity and the two scouted ahead and cleared anyone left in the area out.
“That’s not a luxury we can afford right now, kero,” Froppy as she leaped from rooftop to rooftop. They were trying to stay out of sight by attacking from an elevated position.
“Still there are too many things that could go wrong. What if they take your quirk away? We have no idea what that serum would do to the baby.”
Froppy didn’t say anything in response. While she was usually the more rational of the two, her sidekick, Duckie, was among the kidnapped heroes. It was rare for someone so young to have a sidekick but Duckie had become a big fan of Froppy’s through the many TV appearances Froppy had made while going to U.A. The two had become fast friends and when Froppy realized Duckie was missing she had spent days looking for them. To now find out they had been taken by the League and were going to be stripped of their quirk on live TV; Froppy couldn’t sit by and do nothing.
When the station was in sight they regrouped with Ingenium and Uravity. The two explained that the area was clear and no movement from inside the station could be seen.
“Team A is still en route. Once they get here we enter as they are making the exchange.” Ingenium explained. The three of them nodded. While Uravity had the most experience, Ingenium had been a leader since he was first elected class rep in class 1-A.
As they waited for Team A to arrive Froppy placed a protective hand on her stomach. She hadn’t even begun to show. Uravity touched Froppy’s shoulder and smiled comfortingly as Tsukuyomi held Froppy’s hand.
“We are only the first to arrive. Others will arrive soon. Our job isn’t to engage in a fight, just to rescue those inside,” Ingenium said. What was supposed to be a fun trip to help take Froppy’s mind off of her sidekick’s disappearance had turned into a fight for their life. “Don’t take any unnecessary risks.”
Froppy smiled and nodded but they didn’t have much time for sentiments as an explosion shook the ground.
“ Report in! What was that? ” All of their ears buzzed as a member of the Hero Commission in charge of overseeing this mission spoke to them through their communication earpieces.
“Team B reporting! We are all here and accounted for.” Ingenium said pressing a button on his earpiece that turned on his mic.
“Hello? Like hellooo? Illus-o-Camie reporting in.” There was static. “Repeat, Team A is down. We were—hit by—” There was too much static to make out what she was saying and eventually the com went silent. Ingenium kept trying to get her to respond but gave up and released the button.
“They attacked the armored van? Do you think they found out that they were doubles, kero?”
“Maybe or they never trusted they’d be given what they wanted in the first place.” Uravity turned to Ingenium. “We don’t have much time. If they realize that we tried to trick them then they’ll only do something more extreme.”
He hesitated but inevitably agreed. She is the one person in their group who knew exactly what to do when dealing with such a dangerous organization.
“Team B leader, Ingenium reporting in. We’re going ahead with the rescue.”
“ Understood. Reinforcements are on the way but stopping the recording is now a priority. The hostages come second. ”
It was an unpleasant statement but they all understood why it was said. Even if they all lost their quirks the public could not be allowed to witness such a horrific thing again.
They were about to make their move when a bullet flew past Uravity’s head. Just missing her.
They all ducked and looked back in the direction it had come from. On the rooftop on the other side of the road was Lady Nagant. She shot at them again and they scattered.
“It seems like we weren’t the only ones waiting on reinforcements,” Tsukuyomi said as he used his quirk to fly down to the ground.
As Lady Nagant readied another shot, the hero known as Rule came up behind her with a giant toy hammer. Lady Nagant dodged before she could be hit and shot back at Rule. She moved but a bullet grazed her shoulder and another hit her leg. Rule was left in a vulnerable position but was not about to give up. As Lady Nagant prepared another shot, Rule threw a capsule that expanded and exploded into a sticky rubber substance. Lady Nagant dodged again but some of the substance got on her foot, trapping her. Rule staggered over and hit Lady Nagant with the toy hammer, knocking her out. Rule fell to the ground, clutching her wounded leg. She was about to call in the fact that Lady Nagnant was taken down when the villain started to melt away.
“Rule, reporting in. Lady Nagant was a clone. The real one could still be out there.”
“ Copy that, Rule. What is the status of Team A? ”
“Lady Nagant was a clone likely constructed by the villain, Twice. Team A has no confirmed deaths. All injured with varying severity. Several incapacitated. I think only me and Illus-o-Camie are in any position to continue but I've been shot.”
“ Diverting a small contingent to your location. Keep the villains off Team B as much as you can.”
“Understood.”
While the Hero Public Safety Commission and Rule figured out a plan to get everything under control outside. Team B scrambled to avoid the attacks of another Lady Nagant and Frostfire. This second Lady Nagant shot at them from a distance while Frostfire used his fire and ice to box Team B in.
“Hey, Uraraka. Do you think you and your friends can just stand still for a bit while we continue our broadcast? I’d really appreciate it.” Frostfire asked as he strode over them. Tsukuyomi moved forward protectively.
“I didn’t think League of Villains was working with Humarise.” Tsukuyomi scoffed. “First you take over the Meta-Human Liberation Front, now this? What are you even after by doing this?”
“Are you trying to get me to monologue about our plans?” Frostfire asked as his head tilted to the side, his long two-tone hair spilling over one shoulder. “Sorry. I’m not as theatrical as the others.”
“Shame! Guys with a little more passion are tots hotter!” From above came the towering form of Mount Lady reaching down to grab Frostfire.
He brought up a wall to protect himself and as soon as Mount Lady’s hand touched the ice, it disintegrated into glittery dust. When the straightforward approach failed the one-armed Mount Lady reached under to grab him. He shot fire at the hand to burn it but it also disappeared once it touched anything. Frostfire hesitated, a bit confused at the intangibility of a very tangible woman. Then suddenly it clicked as he noticed a blonde woman in a black catsuit. But it was too late as his captives had already escaped in his momentary distraction. He tried to follow them but even as the Mount Lady illusion began to dissipate as it was continuously shot by Lady Nagant’s bullets, it jumped around and blocked Team B from view.
The whole operation was a mess, even the negotiation team was in a shootout with Twice and Mr. Compress. While it was impossible to tell if it was the real version of either, it at least meant that the focus was on the front. With the rear less protected, they approached the building from the back.
“This is getting too dangerous.” Uravity looked over at Froppy nervously. “Maybe you should stay back?”
“N-no time. We’re already here, kero.” Froppy was still shaking from being close to so much ice but she was determined to continue. She was a hero that specialized in rescues. If she was needed at any time, it was now.
Tsukuyomi used his Dark Shadow to take out the security cameras and Uravity lifted them onto the roof. From there they split up and searched for the missing heroes. The station was mostly in good condition with a few stacks of papers spread around in disarray. For some reason, they couldn’t find anyone. There was no one guarding the inside, save for those fighting outside.
“Team B, move quickly. Another broadcast is starting! Team B report!”
“That doesn’t make any sense,” Ingenium said as he, Tsukuyomi, and Froppy stood directly in the spot where everyone saw a criminal have his quirk taken from him. “There’s no one here!”
“Guys…” Uravity walked into the room holding a DVD with writing on one side of it that read LOV U and had a lipstick kiss pressed to it.
A flurry of voices could be heard from the comm as the Hero Commission member demanded that they report what was going on.
“Damn it!” Ingenium tried to respond but they couldn’t hear him. “We need to leave. Our signal is jammed. This has to be a trap.”
Froppy nodded but she was still coming to terms with this new information. Her husband rubbed her back as she used the anchor’s desk to help keep her upright.
“So it was a recording. Does that mean…”
“You’re too late?” From an entryway on the other side of the room, the quirkless villain that every hero feared, Deku, emerged. He was flanked by Mr. Compress and Twice. As they approached the heroes, the lights in the studio turned on and the cameras started to roll.
“Not entirely. I think we proved our capabilities pretty well with what we showed off. Rather than strip the powers of a few more shitty heroes. We thought it would be more interesting to watch some big-time heroes go up in flames!” As Deku spoke, Twice created a copy of Frostfire that almost immediately started throwing fireballs at the heroes.
Tsukuyomi pulled Froppy out of the way as a fireball came hurtling towards her. The anchor’s desk shattered, sending fiery fragments everywhere. Tsukuyomi pulled Froppy in close so he could protect her from the blast. Try as it might, Dark Shadow recoiled from the intensity of the flames leaving on Tsukuyomi’s body to take the brunt of the damage, leaving his back severely burned. As the flames around them quickly spread, Froppy wrapped her tongue around Tsukuyomi and leaped to a safer part of the room. Using his other hand Frostfire shot ice shards at the two. One hit Froppy in the shoulder and another in her calf.
At the same time, Mr. Compress used a marble to unleash a magnetic net that trapped Ingenium and latched itself into the ground. Uravity tried to help him but Frostfire made an ice barricade to stop her while Deku attacked her with a stun gun.
“Ingenium! Uravity!” Froppy called as she and Tsukuyomi limped their way towards the exit.
“Go! Get out of here we’ll be right behind you.” Ingenium commanded. As if to destroy any argument a piece of the roof crashed to the ground in front of them. Even still the hero couple hesitated to leave their comrades. “Go!”
“Come on! What’s the rush? Don’t all heroes want to be stars?” Deku teased as the two left but Uravity used that moment to grab and flip him. Pinning him with one arm behind his back, she struggled to get him to stop moving. “Oh Uraraka, you're so rough today. I kinda like it.”
“If this place collapses it will take all of us with it. That includes you!” She pried the stun gun from his hands. “What exactly is your plan to get out of here?”
“Who said anything about us escaping?” Deku laughed. Frostfire then turned his flames on Mr. Compress. The masked villain panicked before slowly melting away like every other Twice clone. “You think the originals would start burning a building with a bomb in it?”
“Bomb?”
“Oops! Did I forget to mention that?” The Deku clone laughed again. “Yep! There’s a bomb in the basement! And with how high the flames are in here, I wonder how long it will take them to reach it. I wonder if it will explode sooner than expected or not at all. Man, don’t you just love science experiments? Especially when it involves a bomb that will send this whole place sky high!”
As the clone continued to laugh, Uravity took the stun gun and shocked him with it. The clone melted and this sent Frostfire’s clone into a frenzy. While Uravity dodged a barrage of attacks Ingenium was able to use the heat of the flames to warp the net enough for him to escape. Once free he raced headlong into Frostfire, knocking the clone down as Uravity used the stun gun to destroy this clone as well.
“Ingenium, you take Froppy and Tsukuyomi and get out of here. I’ll go handle the bomb.”
“What?” He stared at her incredulously but she already tapped him to make him float and pushed him towards the exit. He shook his head and pushed himself back towards her. “What are you talking about? I’m faster. Only I can get to it in time. You get out of here.”
“Yes, you’re faster. That’s why I need you to get them out. We don’t even know if the bomb can be stopped but you’re fast enough that you can save them and everyone outside.” She pushed him back towards the exit and released him from her quirk so he couldn’t float back.
“But–”
“No. Just go.” With that she left, leaving Ingenium behind screaming her name. When she was out of sight the gravity of the situation set in and it scared him.
Ingenium quickly caught up to the two wounded heroes and picked them up. Once outside he left them in the care of medical personnel while he focused on making sure everyone was as far from the building as possible.
“Ingenium, what’s going on?” Tsukuyomi asked but the speedster hero didn’t answer him and warned everyone that they needed to get away from the building. “Wouldn’t it be better to explain what’s going on rather than just run around like this?”
“Tenya? Where’s Ochaco? Is she still inside, kero?” Tsuyu asked, pulling away from the people trying to heal her. He stopped for a moment as she staggered towards him.
“Tsuyu I don’t have time to—”
A massive explosion that shook the ground and shattered nearby windows decimated the building that they had just been inside, in a large fiery blaze.
Tsuyu looked at the sight with horror and dismay as dark smoke rose into the air.
Tenya fell to his knees. The guilt that weighed upon him was too much for him to bear.
Fumikage swore and held his wife so she couldn’t see. As she cried out in despair.
1:00 pm, Ochaco Uraraka, the hero Uravity was declared dead.
Two hours after the explosion the heroes who were taken hostage were found. The hero Mr. Heavy and Tenjiro Gou were not among those found and they were informed by the hostages to have been killed not long after they lost their quirks. Of those that were found each was unharmed physically and still had their quirks.
It was also discovered that Zookeeper and Mustard had both escaped and were now on the loose.
Three days later information was leaked that implicated the deceased Moriwaki Kohji in a smuggling and trafficking ring. This information was met with mixed reactions as this meant that once again the League of Villains had done something that was in the best interest of the people in a way that the heroes would never do.
When Ochaco’s funeral was held a week later even those that supported some of the actions of the League were given a sobering reminder of why the League was so vilified.
There wasn’t much to bury but a handful of ashes identified as human remains. Her funeral was small with only family and very close friends. A month later there was a public memorial service where the tv station had been. A park was built in her honor and at the center stood a statue of her with her fingers pressed together and a cheerful smile on her face. On the base of the statue was an inscription: Uravity: A Hero Who Rose Above The Rest.
Thousands of people came to witness the opening, leaving flowers and Uravity merch at the foot of her statue. Among them was Tenya Iida. He had debated about attending for days. When he finally agreed it was only under the circumstance that he wouldn’t have to speak. Even though everyone had told him it wasn’t his fault he felt a guilt that none of them could understand.
The service was beautiful and filled with tears. While it was relatively short, late into the night people still arrived to leave gifts and wander the park. Still, there were fewer people than had been there during the day. So, few noticed or recognized Tenya as he sat alone in a more secluded area of the park. Except for three people who took a seat on the bench directly behind him. One of them wore a dark beanie that just barely covered their green curly locks and had a face mask covering his mouth.
“That was a lovely ceremony, wasn’t it, Tenya?”
“Do not even begin to act like you can speak to me in such a familiar way.” Even with his appearance hidden to such a degree, Tenya knew exactly to who that voice belonged. “We had a deal, Midoriya. This was not how any of this was supposed to go.”
“We did but this in no way goes against that arrangement. The Tokoyamis’ are fine and should be expecting a wonderful new life into the world come next summer. We gave you the information you needed and brought those two bastards to justice. I don’t see how–”
“Stop talking nonsense. She’s dead!” Tenya shouted at him. He stood up and grabbed Izuku by the collar. “I know you had some fucked up obsession with her but to do this and not even care? Are you even human anymore?”
The two people accompanying Izuku stood as well but he gestured for them to relax. Despite wearing a wig and having on a hoodie to mask his notable hair, anyone that got close would notice the edges of a burn peeking out from under the eyepatch of the man to Izuku's left. Coupled with the flames that danced between his fingers, it was clear that this was Deku's boyfriend, Shoto Todoroki, aka Frostfire.
Shoto backed down but Tenya’s outburst didn’t go unnoticed by people passing by. A few stopped to see what was happening.
“You’re causing a scene,” Izuku said as he tried his best to keep the mask covering his mouth from sliding off and revealing his iconic freckles.
Tenya looked around and then released Izuku. He walked away from Izuku, trying to calm down. He couldn’t be around them anymore or else he might turn crazy himself. It had never been his intention to work so closely with the exact type of villains he tried to stop but at first, he had thought of Izuku as less of a villain and more of a lost soul. Izuku was smart and capable. If things had been different, if he had a quirk, he could have been one of the best heroes the world had ever seen.
Izuku and Shoto had been there for Tenya when his brother was injured by a villain. They gave him the information he needed to track down the monster who ruined his brother’s career and made sure that this wouldn’t happen again. While Tenya had grown to see his actions at the time as foolish and rash he still was indebted to them. He would exchange information with them and they would do the same. They handled villains in ways he couldn’t and he would look the other way with some of the things they did. It wasn’t ideal and at times it made him feel dirty but no one innocent got hurt.
“Come on, does this all really upset you this much?” Izuku asked, jogging to keep up with him. “This was always the plan.”
“How is that supposed to make me feel better? None of that was okay. What you did to those—“
“Awful people, who did nothing but make the world worse? We did what we always do.” Izuku grabbed Tenya’s arm to force him to stop. “What is it that will satisfy you? She knew about the bomb. She knew about the sacrifice she would need to make and she made it. Does that relieve you of your guilt?”
The two men stood and glared at each other.
“I actually thought you cared about her.”
“Ha, like you understand matters of the heart. You still haven’t proposed, have you? Afraid you’ll get rejected?”
“At least I don’t expect my lovers to die for my ideals.”
“Who said she did this for my ideals?”
Tenya shook his head. He wasn’t sure why he had agreed to this meeting. Just another foolish thing he did for someone he thought was his friend.
“I’m done helping you. From this day on if I ever see you again, I’m taking you in.” Izuku watched as Tenya turned away from him, leaving this part of their lives behind.
“Are you okay?” Shoto placed a comforting hand on his lover’s shoulder. “Should we really let him go?”
“It’s fine.” Izuku sighed. “He still has to worry about implicating himself and those close to him if he shares any of our secrets. Not that he knows too much, to begin with.”
“But are you going to be okay?” Shoto asked more pointedly. Izuku hesitated but nodded. Tenya was one of the first people to recognize Izuku for his abilities despite not having a quirk. While the two didn’t have the most positive relationship now, they were good friends back in school. To lose that connection, after everything, hurt.
“You could have just told him the truth?” The other person with them stepped forward and linked arms with Izuku. Most people wouldn’t be able to recognize her with her peachy pink hair in a pixie cut but if she took off her sunglasses and mask to reveal a set of her big brown eyes and rosy cheeks, she was much more recognizable. “Why didn’t you just tell him I’m not dead.”
“Because the woman he knew, Ochaco Uraraka, is dead. The only way you can live in peace is if everyone you used to know believes that. I won’t risk your happiness even if it means I lose a friend like Tenya.”
Ochaco grinned and her cheeks grew pink.
“Wow, Bunny you’re so cool sometimes you know?” She pulled down her mask to kiss him on the cheek and then snuggled up against him. “I love you so much! I’m so glad we decided to do this! I’m so happy!”
Izuku’s face went bright red as he blushed and panicked.
“Waaa! Do you really think I’m cool? N-no way! You two are the cool ones! I’m just…Ah!” He tried to pull his mask up so it covered as much as possible and look anywhere but at his beloved girlfriend who had her whole body pressed up against him.
“Ah, now you two are making a scene,” Shoto commented as people watched their trio with confusion. He pulled the two apart and patted them on the head. “Come on you two. You guys can do this when we get back. Let’s go home.”
Ochaco and Izuku pouted but when they looked over at each other, they both hatched a plan. Shoto walked away back to their van, as his two lovers snuck up behind him.
“Which one of you wants to dri—” as he turned around to speak, Ochaco leaped at him, her fingers tapping his chest causing him to float. At the same time, Izuku opened the back door to the van so his partners would fall inside.
Once in, Ochaco wrapped her arms around Shoto’s neck and released him from her quirk. Izuku hurried after them, closing the doors and locking them.
“Who said we could wait until we got home?” Ochaco’s cheeks puffed up as she pouted. She couldn’t keep the look of faux annoyance up for long as she leaned down to hug Shoto tightly. “I want you both now!”
“Me too.” Izuku gently took the wig and eye patch Shoto was wearing off and kissed his lover’s cheek. “It doesn’t matter if anyone catches us now.”
Shoto blinked a bit surprised but smiled.
“Fine but if Toga’s mad that we took so long you two are taking the blame. Deal?”
“Deal!”
