Work Text:
They all told he'd be nothing since he was born. They'd call him useless, working class. They said he'd never amount to anything.
But here he stood today and he was proving them all wrong
Goodness it felt good.
He was about to be crowned the youngest councilor ever.
What an accomplishment a son of two talentless parents. Not only that but a son of a bad match. Being crowned a councilor.
Sure there were people doubting him. Telling him he's going to get him self killed. Family and friends begging him to get a different job. To just open a shop and live a nice life. To find a nice girl and to settle down in Mysterium. But when he was younger he would look at the glittering jewels of Eternala and long for more than the bland working class city where he and his parents lived.
Some people told him that he had motivation, a fire inside that could never be extinguished, like everblaze, and one of these days everyone he cares about would be burned and he would be consumed, but that's them talking.
And that's all it was.
Just. Talk.
Because he knew he had all the people he cared about behind him, supporting him, and nothing else mattered. Even if his parents longed for him to have a safer job they would always support him, he could hear them out there now cheering for him. He would make life better for them, get rid of the prejudice surrounding elves that have abilities vs. those that don't. But he'll make his own Fathdon legacy and show everyone, and be the change he wanted to see as a kid.
But for now he just stepped out onto that stage kneeling before his future colleagues, and as Emery placed that crown on his head, and he asked if Kenric would serve the Elvin world he meant it with his whole heart when he said,
Yes.
