Work Text:
It was the middle of the night, and Amber Sugar was having a hard time sleeping because of the cold rooms in the labyrinth. The poor bee was freezing. He was more used to the warm sun from outside. He would be outside for hours and endured what the sun had to offer. Now, he lives in a labyrinth and the atmosphere is much different compared to his old home. One of the differences was the temperature, during the day it's relatively warm. It does have a greenhouse for the plants. However, nights like this makes the labyrinth very cold since the sun is not out.
Currently, he is on a soft bed with his dearest friend, Sugar Glass cookie, right beside him. They share the same bed because of the condition of the labyrinth and the little resources that it had. Both of them didn't mind. Amber Sugar rolled over to see her gentle face sleeping peacefully. He wondered how Sugar Glass was able to handle temperatures like this. She lived all her life in the labyrinth so that could explain it. Amber Sugar sat up and looked at the butterfly who was laying on her stomach sleeping. He was impressed on how she was able to sleep like this.
Out of curiosity, Amber Sugar gently places his hand on her cheek to check what her temperature is; she is warm. Not hot enough to be considered sick, but not cold as well. Sugar Glass was able to withstand this cold weather. Then, she rushle a bit and turned to face Amber Sugar. He accidentally woken her up, "oh sorry, Sugar Glass. I didn't mean to wake you up."
Sugar Glass sat up rubbing her eye, clearly tired, "Is everything alright?"
"Well, sorta," Amber Sugar replied, "I'm alright it's just that it's so cold." Sugar Glass looked to see him shivering a bit. She placed her hand on his arm and he was cold, "you are freezing…"
"Yeah, how can you even handle these temperatures?" Amber Sugar pondered. Sugar Glass took her hand of him before looking at him, "I grew up in cold temperatures like these when I woke up. I learn to withstand it and I don't mind it."
"Damn I wish I was like you," Amber Sugar chuckled, "I usually don't expose myself to the cold. I'm mostly in the warm sun collecting pollen, building hives and living my best life."
"What's the sun like? I have seen it in many memories, but I don't know what it truly is." Sugar Glass questioned. Amber Sugar was confused on how she didn't know what the sun is, but then he remembered Sugar Glass lived her whole life in the labyrinth and she had to rely on memories for her information. There was nothing in here for her to learn.
"The sun is a star in space that lights up the world and provides warmth. Without it, we would be in freezing darkness." Amber Sugar replied to the butterfly's question. Sugar Glass lit up, "Do you think I will see the sun one day?"
"One day, together." Amber Sugar briefly responded. He stared into her shining eyes. He can't help but admire how beautiful she was. There was something else about Sugar Glass that made him get a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
"I think we should get back to sleep." Sugar Glass mumbled.
"I agree, although it is tough for me due to the cold and all, but it's fine." Amber Sugar answered as he lied down on the bed. Sugar Glass didn't want Amber Sugar to freeze. She wants him to feel warm and comfortable, but how?
"Hold on, I think I have an idea." Sugar Glass said, "You wouldn't mind me being on top of you, right?"
Amber Sugar was a bit flustered by her question, "uhhh, I don't mind at all. We did it before when you fell asleep in my arms when you were sad, I don't see the problem with doing that. Why did you ask?"
"I want to provide you with my warmth. I seen memories of cookies hugging each other to keep warm and I thought maybe we can do the same." Sugar Glass responded in her usual calm voice. Amber Sugar felt the blood rush to his face as Sugar Glass climbed on top of him before placing the blanket on top of them. She wraps her arms around him to insure that he is warm. Amber Sugar was visibly blushing and was a bit flustered by Sugar's willingness to something affectionate. Does she know this? What's more shocking is that she is unfazed by it.
Slowly, Amber Sugar began to warm up. He was able to relax comfortably with the fragile butterfly on top of him. He thought she was adorable when she slept. She was so sweet and kind. More thoughts circulating about Sugar Glass filled Amber Sugar's head. He adores her very much and is willing to do anything to keep her safe. She may not be the smartest cookie, but she has a heart of gold and that's all that matters.
Amber Sugar gently wraps his arms around her waist to keep her balance, so she doesn't roll off him. The butterfly snuggle closer to him providing more warmth. He gave a gentle smile before slowly drifting off to sleep.
Little did he know, him being this close to her kept her safe from something.
