Work Text:

War comes home after work and unlocks their door with a tired sigh. Not even the flickering lights and the bright decorations that littered their home could cheer him up after a long day at work, but the sight of a large life-sized stuffed bear sitting innocently on the floor immediately put a smile on his face.

“And who might you be?” War whispered as he kneeled to inspect the toy, noting the card lying by the side.

Bears give the best hugs, don’t you agree? I recommend Christmas cuddles!

“And the cheesiest gifts apparently.” War laughed softly, imagining the sight of his tall boyfriend trying to haul a life-sized bear out of the toy store. “Let’s leave you here and wait until he gets home so we can figure out where to put you hmm?”

Not really expecting a reply, he got up and headed to their room to change, intending to spend the rest of the day cuddled up on their couch watching The Nightmare Before Christmas. But when he returned wearing his pajamas, he noted that the bear’s head was tilted in a different direction.

“What-” He shook his head, convincing himself that the exhaustion from work was causing him to see things. “War, stuffed bears don’t move on their own, unless I’m dreaming up some twisted form of Toy Story.”

He sent a quick message to Yin about the giant bear with an admittedly embarrassing number of emojis and a note that he was watching the best not-Christmas movie of all time before covering himself with a blanket and turning his attention back to the screen.

War immediately forgets about what he thought he saw as soon as the movie started playing, deep-diving into the nostalgic happiness of watching Jack Skellington discover Christmas. However, from time to time he would catch a small movement from his periphery and he could have sworn that it was the bear.

"Would I be surprised if Yin accidentally got me a haunted bear for Christmas? Maybe not." He murmured, looking into the black-beaded eyes of the stuffed bear. "But if he did, I am never going to forgive him."

He went back to the movie, choosing to ignore the nagging feeling that was creeping up on his chest until he realized that his boyfriend never replied to his messages. War furrows his eyebrows and sends another message to Yin asking him what time he was going home.

No reply.

"That's odd." War whispers but he shakes it off, Yin could be busy and not on his phone right now. He was about to play the movie again when he saw the bear move.

It crossed its legs.

He rubs his eyes, trying to make sense of what was happening but the bear's legs remained crossed and it was looking at him with those beady eyes.

And then the bear moved.

War immediately bolted from his seat and started backing away from the giant bear who was now on its feet. His first instinct was to run but he cursed when he realized that he was being backed up against the wall. So he did the next best thing, he charged at the bear.

"What the fuck is going on?" He asked pointedly with every step, gathering strength from the thought that the worst thing that could happen was the bear hugging him to death.

War admits that he wasn't very imposing in his large hoodie that was probably Yin's and his Star Wars sweatpants but he would be damned if his night was ruined by a giant haunted bear.

"How-"

Step.

"Dare-"

Step.

"You-"

Step.

"Ruin my 'Nightmare Before Christmas' marathon!"

War was now face to face with the giant bear who stood frozen, silently looking at him. The pair of beaded eyes unnerved him and he was about to make another move when the bear raised its arms. He tried to brace himself for an attack but it didn't come.

Instead he found himself engulfed in a warm hug with the giant bear trying to nuzzle its large head on the crook of his neck.

He stilled and chuckled lowly when he realized that there was only one person who would be brave enough to try and prank him with a giant stuffed bear.

"I could've sworn this bear was a gift from my boyfriend."

War pulled away from the hug and leveled the bear with a stare and the bear looked almost sheepish, the involuntary action of rubbing the back of his head giving him away.

"Honestly Anan."

He laughed when he heard a loud sigh coming from the stuffed bear and in the next moment, the bear's head was off revealing his own loveable bear of a boyfriend.

"You're unfair, I was supposed to scare you." Yin pouted and War cooed, his boyfriend was too cute and his heart can't handle this much rollercoaster of emotions in a span of a few minutes.

"You wanted to scare me with a giant bear? Really?" War laughed when Yin's pout only deepened, closing the distance between them and trying to hug the whining bear. "I won't be scared by a stuffed bear, try harder next time okay?"

Yin returned the hug and pulled him so that they could sit on the couch with War on his lap, the smaller man immediately wrapping his arms around his shoulders.

"I watched this video and people got so scared of stuffed bears." Yin tried to point out.

"And you wanted to do that to me? We are breaking up Anan." War gasped dramatically, pretending to be mad but failing miserably as a smile tugged on his lips. He felt Yin's arms tighten around his waist and he snuggled closer to the comforting warmth.

Yin hummed. "Not really, just wanted to see how you would react. You were really cute by the way, I had to resist the urge to soothe the little furrow on your brows."

"You're mean." War complained. "Trying to scare your poor boyfriend with a giant bear on Christmas."

"I'm mean?" Yin asked, looking down at his cuddly boyfriend with wide eyes. "I wasn't the one who was about to fight a giant bear."

"I don't know what you're talking about." War shrugged breezily.

"War, you had your mad face on and you looked like an angry money who was ready to bite my stuffed hands off."

The smaller man huffed in protest and started poking Yin's chest. "Still your fault. What would you have done if I did fight the giant bear?"

"Fight back with giant hugs?" Yin replied simply making War crack up at the soft sappy side of his usually stoic boyfriend.

"You're lucky I love you Anan. otherwise you would have found yourself thrown out of the door with your stuffed bear costume."

"Love you too." Was Yin's simple reply as he nuzzled his chin on War's soft hair.

"Now can we please go back to watching the movie?" War complained. "I'm not breaking Christmas tradition."

"Of course, let me just go get changed." Yin replied, trying to stand up but War only tightened his hold on him. "War?"

"It's cozy. Besides, think of this as your payment for trying to scare me."

And who was Yin to say no to his cuddly boyfriend?

END.
