Happy Birthday Cupid

Summary:

It's our favorite cupid's special day and Yin as a dilemma.

What does one get for a cupid's birthday?

Work Text:

The boss lightly drummed his fingers against the table, the sound echoing in the room and making his men flinch.

Yin had a dilemma.

“Boss-?” One of his higher officials began, immediately cutting off what he was about to say when the boss spared him a hard glare.

“You’re all dismissed.” Yin said with finality, the men filing out of the room one by one.

“Mean immortal. You’re scary when you want to be.”

Speaking of his dilemma, it came in the form of the vivacious little cupid fluttering from his open window to sprawl himself on his couch.

“You’re early.”

“Eros didn’t need me today.” War replied, spreading his wings and laying upside down, his head hanging from the edge of the sofa and his legs thrown up in the air. “I’m bored.”

“You’re going to hurt yourself, little cupid.” Yin chided fondly, walking over to the sulking cupid and sliding an arm behind his neck to sit him straight on the couch.

“I can fly, remember?” War’s lips were drawn to an adorable pout as he pointed at his wings. “Forgetful immortal.”

The boss laughed, sat down and pinched the matchmaker’s puffed up cheeks.

“I know that little cupid, the wings are kind of hard to miss.” He teased as War brushed his wandering hands away. “Your wings won’t stop you from slipping down though.”

“For a scary mafia boss you worry too much.” War replied, arms crossed as he leveled Yin with a stare.

“I only worry about you.” Yin leaned against the couch, body turned to face the other. “Everything else I know I can handle. I can’t say the same about you though.”

“What an honor.” War snorted, resting his head on Yin’s shoulder. “You’re lucky I like you.”

The boss smiled, kissing the cupid’s head gently. “I think you like me more than you’d like to admit.”

“You’re pushing your luck Anan.” War huffed.

The couple often finds themselves in the same place, War with his head on Yin’s shoulder as he idly played with the rings on the immortal’s fingers and Yin running his hands through the cupid’s hair asking about his day.

“Why did Eros send you off early today?” Yin asked and War opened his eyes to glare at the sky outside the window.

“Said something about a break. That old man doesn’t know what a break is even if it slapped him in the face.” The matchmaker complained, grunting when a heavy gust of wind blew and ruffled the curtain. “You know I’m right Eros, you are old.”

“Let’s not anger a god today shall we?” Yin shakes his head, knowing full well that there was no way the said god would ever be mad at the man in his arms.

“What’s he going to do? Make me fall in love?” War taunted. “A bit too late for that.”

“Are you saying that you love me little cupid?” Yin smirked, laughing a bit too loudly when the matchmaker pushed him away and kicked his shins.

“You are insufferable.”

“But you love me.”

“You loved me first!” War complained, wrapping his wings around himself to hide his reddening cheeks. “I have proof!”

“I never said I didn’t.” The boss deadpanned, smirk still tugging at the corner of his lips at the adorable sight in front of him. “It’s nice to hear it from you though.”

The tomato-red cupid answered him with a glare that softened when Yin opened his arms, a fond smile replacing the smirk on his lips.

“Do I not say it often?” War asked, resting his head back on Yin’s shoulder, voice mellow. “Or do you not feel it?”

“Silly little cupid.” Yin leaned down, peeking at the beautiful man who was looking at him with wide eyes. “You make me feel loved every second.”

“Really?”

“Really.”

“You promise?” Yin nodded and War seemed content, dimples showing as he closed his eyes again. “Good, because you make me feel loved every millisecond.”

---

Dressed in a black suit and flanked by two bodyguards, Yin’s footsteps echoed on the empty hallway as they approached the large doors of the penthouse.

“Wait here.” Yin instructed, as the door opened for him. “I’ll be back.”

The first thing he saw was the man with his back turned towards him, his stark white hair shining as he hummed a happy tune.

“Eros.” The boss greeted curtly.

“Anan Wong as I live and breathe.” Eros spun to face him, lips curved up to a mischievous smirk.

Contrary to War calling him old, Eros looked young, looking younger than the mafia boss himself.

“Your taste in fashion hasn’t changed at all.” Yin said, eyebrows raised at the gaudy cheetah print suit that the other man had on.

“And yours is still dark and brooding.” Eros replied with a wave, a glass of champagne materializing in his hands. “Where is my favorite cupid?”

“First, he is my cupid.” Yin took the offered glass, looking at the glass then at his companion suspiciously.

“I will not lace your drink with anything. War will kill me.” The god snorted with a laugh and Yin conceded but cautiously placed the untouched drink on the table next to him. Eros for his part looked amused rather than offended. “Where is he?”

“He’s asleep.”

“Ah, you sneaked away.” Eros teased, taking a slow slip. “Very out of character. I’ll make sure to keep the visit a secret from him then.”

“No need.” Yin replied. “Though I must ask you to keep it from him at least until tomorrow.”

“I think I know what this is about." The god put down his drink and looked at Yin with an interested glint in his eyes. “Love matters. You came to the right man. Now tell me all about it.”

The mafia boss massages his temples, knowing full well how hard it was to deal with this particular god.

“Spit it out Wong, we don’t have all day.” Eros pushed. “And I’m still upset at you for sweeping away my loveliest cupid.”

Yin frowned, brows creasing and the god doubled over in laughter.

“Eros.” He warned.

“I’m sorry.” The god replied with one last laugh. “It’s quite amusing to see you so possessive of someone you love. Especially after it seemed like you didn’t want to have anything to do with love in the first place.”

“You knew this and yet you still sent a cupid to me to make me fall in love.”

“I sent you War, my best cupid. And fall in love you did. I never quite thought you were going to fall for the matchmaker but it is a wonderful turn of events." Eros with a mysterious smirk. "Now why did you come all the way here to see little old me?”

“I have a question.” Yin began, not meeting the eye of his lover’s employer.

“What is it?”

“What do I get him for his birthday?”

---

War opened his eyes and sat up, a little disoriented and confused when he noticed the blanket draped over him. He yawned and roamed his eyes around the room, looking for a familiar presence.

“You’re awake.”

Yin was leaning against the bathroom door with his hair down and wet from a shower, donned in sweatpants instead of his usual formal attire.

“What are you wearing!” War shrieked when he noticed the skin on display. His wings fluttered around him, hiding the view in front of him and his flushed face. “Put a shirt on!”

Yin laughed and the flustered cupid could hear shuffling around the room before he felt bed dip next to him.

“You can peek. I’m clothed.” Yin almost cooed when War’s wings gave way to show War looking at him through the fingers covering his eyes.

“Stupid immortal you’ll get cold.” War chided, the red tint on his cheeks still noticeable in the dim lights. “What time is it?”

“It’s seven in the morning.” Yin watched in amusement as the cupid’s eyes widened like saucers.

“It’s the next day already? I’m late for work!” War said in a panicked frenzy, looking at Yin quizzically when the other held him in place. “Let go Anan, I have matchmaking to do.”

“Not today you don’t.” Yin circled an arm around the other’s waist to calm him down. “Eros has agreed to let you have a day off.”

“What? Why?” The cupid asked, utterly perplexed.

Yin leaned down to peck War’s pouted lips then his forehead. “Happy birthday little cupid.”

War’s lips formed to an “o”, the realization finally settling in. Meeting the loving eyes of his lover, the cupid’s eyes brightened and his lips curled to a dimpled smile.

“That’s why. I can’t believe I forgot.”

“You were busy matchmaking.” Yin teased, pinching his nose to the annoyance of the matchmaker. “What do you want to do?”

“Stay in.” War replied without missing a beat, eyes sparkling. “Can we cook breakfast too?”

“Of course. Anything you want, little cupid.”

War’s wings fluttered in excitement and in a second the cupid was up on his feet and dragging his amused lover out the door, intent on doing as many things as he wanted on his special day.

---

Yin made sure that they remained undisturbed for the rest of the day, indulging every single one of War’s whims. And that was how he found himself subject to the cupid’s bright hopeful orbs.

“Anan please, I promise I’ll be careful.” War begged, clutching Yin’s arm as they walked to their favorite spot in the garden. “Please.”

“I’m not sure.” Yin replied, resolve already cracking when War tugged on his arm, looking like a kicked puppy.

“Just one time.” War continued to plead, knowing full well that Yin could never resist him. “We’ll go slow.”

“Alright.” He conceded, almost convinced that it was worth it when he was met with the brightest smile. “Just once.”

War was already standing up and offering a hand to his unwitting victim. “I promise. Hold on tight.”

Yin blanched when he felt the cupid’s arms pull him up and off the ground, shutting his eyes tight as soon as he felt the wind around him.

“Anan open your eyes!” War laughed and Yin opened one eye, to the amusement of his winged lover. “We’re flying.”

Yin tightened his arms around the neck of the laughing cupid, watching as they flew higher and higher.

“You said we would go slow!” He accused the giggling matchmaker.

“I said slow, not low.” War replied with a wink and soon enough Yin could see the entirety of their property sprawled around them.

“See it’s pretty up here.”

“I would agree but I’m more focused on trying to not think about how far up we are.” Yin deadpanned.

“I’ll make sure you won’t fall Anan, don’t worry I got you.”

“I fell for you though.” Yin smirked, never missing a chance to make the cupid blush.

“Maybe I should drop you.” War replied, squinting at the thoroughly amused look on Yin’s face. “You’re immortal after all.”

---

After a hearty dinner, courtesy of Yin’s cooking, the lovers settled on the couch where War continued to gush about their afternoon in the sky.

“We should do it more often.” The cupid clapped his hands together, looking at Yin and fluttering his lashes. “Maybe we can catch the sunrise next time.”

“You enjoyed it that much?” Yin asked, pulling the other closer. “I’m starting to think you just want to scare me.”

“You enjoyed it too!” War contradicted. “You even let me fly around the garden. You laughed! Don’t deny it.”

“I enjoy anything as long as I get to do it with you.” The boss replied honestly, hiding a laugh when War looked away pointedly.

“My arms are about to fall out.”

“Let me massage it for you. Come here.”

War crawled closer and offered his hands to the bemused boss who focused on trying to soothe the sore limbs.

“I’m not used to carrying someone else I guess.” The cupid said shyly.

“You’re hurt but you still want to do it again.”

“It’s fun and I like spending time with you.”

“Don’t go around carrying other people to watch the sunset with you, okay?”

War nodded, transfixed by the furrow on Yin’s brow as he massaged his arms.

“You’re a good masseuse.”

“I had to take care of myself a lot of times little cupid. It’s one of the hazards of the job.” Yin replied, making the cupid frown.

“Give me a list.” War said seriously.

“A list?”

“Of people who've tried to hurt you. I’m going to give them a visit.” The cupid said, mad at the thought of anyone trying to hurt Yin.

Yin smiled and pulled War to his lap to give him a hug, the cupid nuzzling his nose on his neck.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be careful. I have a cupid to take care of.”

War huffed and leveled his lover with a glare. “You also have a cupid who will be very upset if you are so much as grazed.”

“I know.”

They let the silence wrap around them, content on being in each other’s arms.

“I almost forgot to give you my gift.” Yin said and War looked at him in confusion.

“But you’ve given me enough.”

Yin shook his head and pulled out a drawstring pouch from his pocket. “I got this yesterday. I hope you like it.”

War took the pouch, a delicate gold necklace dropping on his palm.

“Is this?”

Yin takes the necklace to put it on his lover’s neck. “Nimue.”

War turned to face Yin. “But it’s been lost for eons.”

“I had a friend.” Yin smiled mysteriously, his fingers brushing on War’s nape as he clasped the necklace close. “It fits you.”

“Anan I-” War’s eyes shine with unshed tears, hugging himself closer to the man who’s never failed to make him feel loved. “Thank you.”

“I love you, little cupid.”

---

Hand in hand, they were walking through the labyrinthian mansion, leaned towards each other as they spoke about mindless things when they heard a small sound.

“What’s that?” War asked, looking up at his lover who smiled mischievously. “Anan.”

“One last gift.”

War gestured to his neck where the necklace was innocently placed. “Really?”

“This one was a team effort.” Yin said, rubbing the back of his head. “Or more like I was coerced into it but I think you’ll love it.”

“What is it?”

“Go see for yourself.”

The cupid opened the door and shrieked in happiness, startling the feline napping on their bed. He turned to his lover and gave him another hug before sprinting to the feline.

“Hi! I’m War.” War crouched in front of the cat, offering his hand almost bursting in a puddle of cuteness when he noticed that it was wearing a cupid costume.

Yin leans against the doorframe, watching in amusement as the feline jumps on War’s arms.

“It likes you.” Yin said as War continued to scratch the cat’s fur.

“He’s a cupid too.” War exclaimed, presenting the cat to Yin. “The cutest cupid.”

“You’re the cutest cupid.” Yin walked to where War was standing to ruffle his hair and look at the new addition to their home. “But he is cute.”

“That’s why you left yesterday, you went to see Eros.” War laughed, imagining the sight of his boss convincing Yin to get him a cat.

“How did you know I went to see Eros?” Yin asked, surprised that War was able to put the pieces together so quickly.

“He knows I wanted a cat.” War shrugged.

“For the record he kept saying ‘get him alone’ when I asked him what gift I should give you. What does he even mean?”

The cupid resisted the urge to facepalm, vowing to speak with his boss once he gets back to work.

“Don’t think about it Anan, you know how Eros is. He’s-” War stopped. “He’s odd.”

With one last pat on the cat’s head, War lets it walk around its new home. He then turns to Yin who only had a second before had to catch the giggling cupid.

“What are you doing?” Yin scolded, making sure that the cupid wouldn't slip from his arms. “What if I didn’t catch you?”

“You always do.” War wrapped his arms around Yin’s neck and leaned down to seal their lips in a kiss. Breaking away only when air became a necessity. “Thank you Anan.”

“For what?”

“For spending my birthday with me.”

Yin smiled and let War pepper his face with small pecks before leaning their foreheads together.

“And for making me feel loved every millisecond.”
