Chapter Text
It was a Friday afternoon. The Ninja had just finished training and Cole and Jay had decided to go take a walk in town.
"It's so cold! I feel like I'm dying!" Jay exclaimed. "I should've taken a jacket." He pouts.
"Relax Jay. We can go home if it's too cold for you ." The other ninja says, completely unfazed by Jay's pouting.
"Nah, it's fine. I'll live."
"But didn't you just- nevermind." Cole groans
They continue walking in silence for a while, both taking in the scenery. Eventually, a conversation sparks up about past pets.
"One time, my Mom brought home a mouse. She was so white a fluffy, it reminded me of snow. Too bad she disappeared." Cole says with a slight frown visible on his face.
"The closet I ever got to a pet is the time a tarantula crawled in my room and lived there for awhile. I found out the hard way." Jay shuddered. Probably hinting at why he was so arachnophobic.
"Uhm, gross!" Jay laughed at his friend's reply.
Cole looked up at the sky. Jay followed suit.
"I didn't realize it was getting so dark." Cole said, still looking up at the sky.
"Me either." Jay said almost instantly. "We should probably head back now."
"Yeah."

On their way back home, Jay notices something move out of the corner of his eye.
"Did you see that?!" Cole stops to face the other ninja.
"See what?" He questions.
"The thing!"
"You're starting to sound crazy bud. Not that you didn't before but, you get the point." Jay sighs
Jay sees it again. It resembles a tail of some sort.
"Follow me." Is all he can think to say.

Jay keeps running until they reach a dead end.
"Uh, there's nothing here, J-" Cole stops the sound of a can clattering behind them."
They turn around to see a fluffy black blob staring at them.
"Well aren't you quite the Ninja?" Cole says, slowly approaching it. "Hey, I think this is just a little puppy!"
The puppy in question was black everywhere except his paws, stomach and hair on his chin, which resembled a beard. His eyes were both blue and brown, resembling black due to the darkening sky.
"He kinda looks a bit like you, Jay!" Cole chuckles.
"Th-thanks." Jay replies, unamused.
"Awe, he looks cold. We should bring back to the monastery."
"We can't just bring back, Cole! He could have an owner." Jay replies, being the sensible one for once.
"But he doesn't have a collar! And you wouldn't wanna leave this guy out to the cold, would you? Cole picks the dog up, showing him to Jay.
"Well, I guess he is cute." The master of lightning says, trying not to give in to his temptations.
"See! And if anyone declares a missing dog that matches his description, we'll give him back! Easy as pie."
"Alright, I can't argue with that logic. Let's bring him back."
A smile appears on Cole's face.
