Jordan stood outside the little deli, fingering the petals of the white rose. They were one of Lily's favorite flowers, and the sight of one now could turn Jordan's stomach. More than anything, she wanted to call and tell Lily she was okay and not to worry, because she would. Sweet
Lily, always worried about everyone else, never herself. On impulse, Jordan bought the flower. She sniffed it gently as she walked down the street, letting her tears wash the dirt from her cheeks. She knew she looked like hell, but she couldn't care less. Let them think she was homeless; it might keep the cops away for one more day. And one more day might be all it would take to get what she needed, clear her name and head home. To Lily.
Sighing, Jordan stopped at the post office, buying an envelope and stamps. She flattened the rose inside, sealed it and sent it off without a return address. Lily would know. She always knew. She knew when Jordan smiled that it meant "I love you", even though she couldn't say it. She knew when a single white rose made its way onto her desk chair that it meant "My place, after work". She would know.
Jordan ached to call her, to hear the familiar, husky voice one more time, to be told everything would be fine, she'd be okay, it would all work out. Lily always knew just what to say, just what Jordan needed to hear, even if Jordan didn't particularly want to hear it.
That's why Lily was Jordan's favorite flower.
