Work Text:
Billy could feel it in his very bones that it was going to be one of those nights again. Ever since Neil's "untimely death" Susan had lost herself in cheap booze to drown out the noise in her brain. Max had started staying at Hopper's house more often than her own to try and escape it. Out of sight, out of mind, right? Billy could only wish he could do the same, but he would never forget the cruel words and harsh blows. If the night was too quiet he could still hear Neil yelling or when he laid too still he could feel the punches and the ache of old wounds.
Billy was actually mad when Neil died, as strange as it sounds. He was supposed to prove that he didn't need Neil to survive. That he could live without his influence. He didn't need Neil's "discipline" to become a man. Not when he was the one taking care of Neil's ex-wife and stepdaughter. Not when he worked nearly everyday to help pay the mortgage and put dinner on the table. It pissed him off that he wasn't here to rub it in his face.
Billy groaned as he stood up from his bed, his tired bones and joints protesting at any movement. It took a few wobbly steps before he regained his composure and walked straight. He grabbed the six pack of beer out of the fridge, Susan didn't need anymore. Speaking of, he picked up a blanket to throw over her where she lay passed out on the couch. He didn't want her to wake up with a cold and be bitchy all of tomorrow.
With the six pack in hand, he slid into the driver's seat of his Camaro, one of his most prised possessions. It was untainted by painful memories now, thanks to Eddie Munson. It took him a long time to trust Eddie enough to take his hand, but he was glad he did. Soon enough, places that were once glass to the eye now filled his chest with a warm feeling, so much so that sometimes he wonders if his heart my burst in his chest.
Eddie was who he was headed to see now. He didn't worry about whether or not he was awake since the freak could and would stay up all night if no one told him to go to sleep. So, when he pulled into the gravel driveway, he wasn't surprised to see Eddie sitting in that rickety old rocking chair, a joint hanging from his lips. He glanced up and smiled at Billy, and Billy found himself smiling back while his heart fluttered around in his chest.
The blonde ascended the steps to the porch so he could lean part of his weight on the chair's arm, ignoring the creaking protests, and snag the joint. He didn't put it to his lips quite yet, though. Instead he leaned forward until their lips brushed together in a whisper of a kiss. They traded their chilly spot on the porch for the warm interior of the living room, a movie acting as background noise since both were too lost in one another to even register the title.
It was all soft, slow touches and gentle glowing warmth. They needed nothing more at that moment to show their devotion to each other. Even as Eddie penetrated the most sensitive parts of Billy, they never fell out of the other's arms. Passion came in quiet praises, ghosting fingertips, fluttering butterfly kisses, and slow movements. Though some nights were rougher with desire and lust, tonight was a night of love and quiet understanding. Understanding that they just needed each other. A warm safe haven from reality and a place to hide when the past weighed too heavy on the mind.
...
The night was still young when they awoke in safety of each other's arms. It took nearly half an hour of Eddie's soft coaxing to get Billy to follow him into the woods. The crunch of the dry fall leaves announced their footsteps to anyone or anything nearby until they had reached a small clearing with an open view of the moonlit sky. Billy gazed into the winking lights of the stars while Eddie slid in the CD that would play a list of songs just for the two of them.
Eddie held out his arm playfully, sort of mocking the sweeping bow of a kind gentleman beckoning a beautiful lady who had captured his interest to ask for a dance. To his pleasant surprise, it was taken seriously. So there they swayed, Eddie whispering loving words into his tawny blonde hair while Billy rested his cheek on his lover's shoulder, eyes closed as he hummed along with the song that was playing. The melody of both the music and the nearly synchronised beating of their hearts drowned out the rest of the noises of the night.
The world was going to crash around them one day, but, as long as they had each other's arms to hide in, they would never notice.
