Chapter Text
Remembering a past life was truthfully not something new to her anymore, she remembers her past life, of magic and castles and curious adventures, her name had been Luna Lovegood, before that she had been Magdalena but her friends had called her Maya.
She remembers waking up as Luna Lovegood the first time, remembers all the worries that practically drowned her, but soon after she learned to calm down, learned to enjoy life and all that it meant, she was lucky of her parents’ endless love and patience, she had been very loved as Luna and yet so sad, when mama passed away a new world opened to her, she was capable of taking care of the home while daddy grieved but her body wasn’t.
Mind and Body magic were so very different, so complicated. The little lights that danced and sang of the mysteries of the earth would tell her not to meddle with such things, it was unsafe and so she listened, she was good at listening though she didn't think others were very good at it, listening that is, because most people shout very loudly and yet never seem to understand one another.
Fact of the matter is, Luna Lovegood never messed with Mind and Body magic, the earth and elements provided, she listened to their advice and she was good, for the most part, she was very sad when all of the girls in her dorms would bully her, but she learned to live with it and waiting seemed to help because she had a friend, who was curious and funny and had way too many nargles in his head and had his own special Heliopath after him.
Suddenly Luna was fighting in a war and her friends were getting hurt, her papa was so very sad and then, well they won and there were so many hurts and Luna loved her friends so she tried her best to help but the earth warned her, the earth told the little moon to not stray from her feelings, so Luna at 24 years of age packed her earthly possessions and let to wherever the mysteries of the earth and cosmos asked her to go.
Seeing and hearing were great traits to have, according to cats with weird smiles and too many tails, turtles that seemed to have too many flippers taught her how to move in water, how to become a part of nature.
At 25 years of age Luna Lovegood passes away, peacefully and happily, it wasn’t anything terrible really, the cosmos and everything strange simply said that she wasn’t needed here anymore so they sent her to another place.
It was quite curious, waking up, as a baby was weird like the first time it happened, except it was a bit more strange because instead of waking up in a cot or somewhere safe and warm in the embrace of caring parents, she was, well, outside, in the woods at night.
Which was fun, she loved being outside, she loved it when the woodlands and the wind would tell her little stories, when the stones she would kick up would laugh in a childlike manner and tell her little anecdotes.
She loved nature, so she listened when it warned her away from places and she listened when they told her to hide or come hither, there’s something interesting to be found here.
Laying in a blanket, staring at the twinkling midnight sky that is illuminated by the moon, a moon that feels much bigger than the one she remembered before, in either of her lives, it felt fantastical in a way that is new to her.
The first few years of her life had been filled with wonder at all the kinds of magic around her, but even with the mind of an adult she wasn’t exactly the most studious of people, so instead of dreaming big she decided to simply continue doing what she did best in her new life.
But the moon and the stars and the grass that tickled her cheeks told her of new things, ones she recognized even if just slightly, the grass also told her that she was alone now, her mother had been ambushed and Luna had been hidden, which makes her sad, but she was also informed that someone would be coming to get her.
Only, she didn’t expect the someone to be quite so furry and on four legs, she wonders if this furry protector would be able to turn into a human like Professor Lupin, he made for a slightly intimidating figure if she had to be honest, she remembers what it was like when Hogwarts got besieged under the Death Eaters and Voldemort's command, she remembers seeing Greyback and his pack, it brought slight chills to her body and it must have shown for her scent too because the dog, wolf? He or she stopped.
He was big, abnormally even for a dog but to a baby everything seemed bigger than life so she might have been wrong, he was large and quite fluffy, his fur was mostly brown, dotted with spots of blacks and whites coupled with a long snout and fluffy folded ears and most curious of all, a bandana and some sort of sash on his back, it was cute.
She watched, just a bit listlessly as the dog approached and sniffed at her, it actually tickled a lot which made her giggle.
“ Heya pup, we gotta take ya to your pa now, don’t worry though, i’ll protect ya “
The dog was capable of speaking, that was so fascinating to her, she’d never met animals capable of speech, in the human language at least, in the back of her head she also acknowledged that he spoke in Japanese and the curiosities really never ended, this new world seemed magical.
She smiled softly, eyes crinkling shut, a new trait to the old her but to her careful watcher it was actually something very familiar.
She felt a sensation similar to flying, opening her eyes brought to her the realisation that her soft spoken companion had picked her up by the basket she lay in, it made for a slightly awkward ride but he was very careful when walking.
She wasn't sure for how long they travelled but Magic and Fate had always loved Luna, so did Nature, it was the little things really, when she would lose her shoes and walk outside on the frosty winter forest floors and her feet wouldn’t be cold, it was in the way that when she got peckish there would always be fresh berries on the bushes around her and in the way that animals would welcome her in their midst.
It was in the way that the roots that would normally trip her furry friend simply weren’t there, in the way that their path was clear and the scent of the trail home was easy to access, Magic,Fate and Nature, three was a powerful number and the three, like three mothers loved Luna, because despite her struggles she accepted them wholly, and in a way that was unexpected she cared for them, so a boon was given.
They walked through the night into the early morning, the scattered stars that painted the sky would lighten and welcome the new tomorrow, the earth would slowly bloom and the birds would sing their merry waking song, not that she was very aware of it, her new baby body needed its sleep and the light swaying of the basket she lay in as her furry friend trotted along the path made for a luling sensation.
The path soon cleared, no longer within the deep forests, but a few scattered deer were around, intelligent in their eyes and with sharp teeth, even the does had antlers and some seemed larger than life, the Nara forests were off limit for a reason, the Deer loved their Nara companions but it was more of a tolerance, they loved the intelligence and the compatibility that came with their control of their shadows, Gods and Higher Beings do so love their little humans, so they give boons that make mortals seem more.
The Nara forests are off limits, but like recognizes like, they recognize it in the burden that the Inuzuka dog carries, they recognize when something that is more than most is about to happen, besides, the deer had always been intelligent, close to the owls who were watchers of the forest, they recognized their scattered mutterings of Fate and Destiny, much more than the silly toads. So they cleared the way and even helped guide the Inuzuka dog who carried a little heiress, a curious thing with compatible chakra, the Deer and the Nara were similar in that way, when their curiosity would rear its ugly head.
The Inuzuka dog’s thoughts were heavy, his mistress had passed, unknowing of the gift she would be bestowing until the very last moment and even then, they had been way too far from the village, the birth was difficult and she was only able to feed her child for a few precious weeks while they were on the road, only to succumb from festering infection, the Inuzuka were connected to their dogs and the passing of his mistress hit him hard but he had one last job to do for her and he’d see that it would be done.
The scent of Konoha brought him a small reprieve, a slight hope, the sound of the villagers milling about in the early morning made him wistful too, but he had a job, so, instead he wove between legs of unsuspecting villagers, wove into back alleys, uncaring of ninken, clanmates and comrades that knew him, in fact he really didn’t care for anything else except for his mistress’s precious pup that was to be delivered to her father, pups were precious like that, he’d seen it in the way of grandparents awaiting the birth of a grandchild, how they’d battle with the shinigami to stay just for a bit longer.
Pups brought hope, they were good and untainted by the world, pups were to be happy and uncaring of the cruelty of the world, to be watched over carefully as they grew into their limbs and learned to growl and bark, to be encouraged on their first hunts, or at least it’s how it was for the Inuzuka, though he has no doubt that the Hatate were the same, even if it was only one man and one pup strong.
The Inuzuka and Hatake were so very similar, to outsiders at least, the Inuzuka were proud Fire country inhabitants, even if they had been overshadowed by the Senju and Uchiha at the time, the Inuzuka had at first been a scattering of people, they picked up their dogs and travelled the lands, uncaring of rumours, uncaring of the harsh winters, the Inuzuka were hardy people. But then chakra happened and master and dog became intertwined, blessed by lesser gods, they grew fangs and started to understand their companions and soon it became a way of living and then tradition, the dogs and masters were intertwined, as one.
The Hatake however hailed from Iron country, samurai who wore their honour on their sleeves and served their master, who swore loyalty with such conviction and ferocity that even the most loyal of dogs would hesitate. He had heard of what happened to Hatake Sakumo as a pup and later on in life saw the way the prodigious Hatake son behaved after the death of his family, not that any pup should have family taken away, it was preposterous.
But Hatake were loyal, to a fault and their use of the tanto and lighting was unparalleled, their canine summons, oh but the tales he’d heard of the older dogs in the compound.
Shinobi with wild grey hair and grey eyes and their dogs and wolf companions who’d come in all shapes and sizes.
Of massive white wolves, so large that their summoners would rite them into battle, of Hyenas and wild desert dogs who’d laugh at their opponents in glee, something almost fox-like in mischief.
He’d heard of the companions of the current Hatake Head, 8 dogs would be enough to protect the little pup, oh and the Hatake better protect the little pup, he thinks Pakkun might be out and about, his scent is fresh enough, enlisting him to coerce his summoner should be enough to help his charge, the land dogs and the summoned dogs were different but both loyal, there’s companionship in what is similar.
The scent he was following brought him to a familiar place, the monument, he sniffed softly, his mistress’s name would likely come upon that stone soon, it brought him a curtain of grief that felt so soul crushing, but before he could lose himself to the grief he smelled a distinct canine scent.
“ Yo. “ Ah, just who he was looking for, he thought in slight mirth and relief before setting his little charge down, he gazed at the pup, safe, calm and still asleep, good.
He turned his brown eyes upon the summoned dog. “ Pakkun. “
Pakkun looked at him, eyes knowing before they settled on the little pup. “ Tadeo… I’ll have to bite Boss real hard, huh. “ He sighed softly before bending down to sniff at the cub.
“The mom?”
Tadeo shook his head softly. “ She passed away, she didn’t know she was pregnant until we were in the middle of a mission, couldn’t treat the infection, Maki…” Tadeo snuffled softly, overcome by emotions again. “ She, ah… She was never one for healing, didn’t wanna bother with it. “
Pakkuun sighed softly, padding over to his companion, really, he was a companion, a friend even, he’d have to be with how many times Boss summoned him to keep Tadeo entertained while he and Maki went at it like rabbits, disgusting, he’ll bite him twice.
“ I’m sorry…”
Tadeo grunten in acknowledgement, staring down at the pup, Pakkun turned down to stare too, really, the resemblance was uncanny, scary even, the pup was still too small to recognize the characteristics of the parents but it was in the hair, Hatake grey, squishy little body that was characteristic of all pups, her skin was pale, similar to Kakashi’s, he wondered if her eyes would be grey, or blue, maybe black and…
Ah, a blue with grey tints, or was it that human pups changed eye colour later, bah, he’d figure it out later, the pup was awake now.
“ Yo, little boss. “ He grinned, tail wagging at the little pup, he didn’t acknowledge Tadeo’s presence slowly leaving the clearing, he knew the price of the death of their master, Inuzuka and Hatake dogs were similar in that way, they wouldn’t accept any other master, it was better to just depart with them, although…
“ Tadeo! “ He barked, he saw his friend stop. “ The pup’s name? “
“ Tsuki… Hatake Tsuki. “
