I was so close. So close! I can't begin to tell you just how close I was to grab my lifelong dream: absolute power, bountiful wealth, respect and honors long overdue me — to be a Viking of legendary renown! Nothing much, just what every bloke's got but meMe, Savage the Staunch — a respectable thug and warrior that's held his end of the bargain. For what? To be betrayed, ignored, belittled, and abused by my superiors — and getting nothing in return!

I have always been disrespected my whole life! Trampled on and looked down on my whole pitiful existence! An orphan with no family name, no family honor, no legendary ancestors, no wealth — nothing! Just a waste of space, waiting to die like some disgusting insect since I had no one to care for me!

And now here I am, rotting in a Berserker cell, awaiting my sentence. I haven't lost the irony in this, having been Dagur's lieutenant for over four years. Not for any fault of my own, mind you. It's all their fault — Dagur and those... those... Riders! I swear, Dagur must've conked his head something fierce if he lost his bloodlust and deranged lunacy; impossible for him to have lost it otherwise. Should've died on whatever hole he got stuck in! And to think that I had to endure his antics and his horrendous laugh only for him to go willy-nilly and join the Dragon Riders of Berk — just like my previous master, Alvin the Treacherous (though, not treacherous anymore, it seems).

Speaking of which, Magnus the Merciless must be rolling in his grave right now if he knew that his subordinate and successor turned yellow! Traitors, the lot of 'em! They went against their ambitions, their villainous bloodlust, their greed, and became friends with that... RUNT! Little wonder many of the Outcasts sided with Dagur and I, or that I had to scheme to usurp Dagur and lead the Berserkers in his place!

And Alvin, that piece of dragon dun! I served him for many a year, and served him well! What thanks did I get? Lots and lots of verbal and physical abuse whenever a plan or scheme of his went awry thanks to those Riders. Both of my former masters were cunning, albeit short-sighted and dimwitted at times, allowing those Berkians to run circles around them.

Honestly, if I was given full reign of operations, I could've had the chance to help Alvin gain Berk, and then we could've left behind that accursed pile of volcanic rock for good! But Alvin was Alvin, and he insisted on having full control of the operations; there was him, the leader, and then there was us, the followers, who were expected to follow every order to the hilt (and severe punishments for those who didn't).

It wasn't a surprise then that, once Dagur defeated Alvin and took control of the Outcasts, we submitted ourselves to him. I didn't wish to die, and I know for a fact that my fellow Outcasts felt the same. I also had high expectations that Dagur being more competent, my own ambitions and rewards would be realized. I was immediately made into one of Dagur's lieutenants, and later became his chief lieutenant, and often became the suggester of many of Dagur's plans against the Dragon Riders. Of course, as one would expect, not unlike Alvin, whenever the plan didn't end in victory, Dagur would go into one of his fits of rage and I would end up receiving the brunt of it. However, despite the setbacks, I continued hoping that victory would be achieved in the end, and my ambitions and rewards would be realized and I would be given my due!

When Dagur was eventually defeated and captured by Alvin, I made my exit, where I island-hopped as a mercenary. The only reason why I came back to liberate Dagur and his Berserker comrades from the Outcast Dungeons was because I was still expecting rewards and honors due me, and I still believed that we could defeat the Riders eventually once Dagur was freed. If I had known how it would turn out in the present, I would've rather left Dagur rotting in that prison, and just tried usurping Alvin and become the new Chief of the Outcasts instead! And then perhaps being bold and trying to take over the Berserkers.

That Heather wench certainly was unexpected. Ever since she showed up, Dagur had an obsession to bring her back that was as strong as his obsession over Hiccup. If I had known how dangerous that girl was going to be, I would've requested to Ryker to be rid of her. Hel, forget that! I'd go further in the past than that! Had I known back when Alvin was using her as a spy, I would've disposed of her before she screwed everything up to begin with, then later tell Alvin that the Riders dealt with her!

Yes, that's it. It's not just the Riders that I want my revenge against, but that black-haired witch as well! Tch! If only I had my hands on them before they fled! I would've been the Chieftain of the Berserkers by now!

But what's done is done! No rush crying over spilt cod chowder. What's more important is how to get out of here. Assuming that I don't manage to escape before the trial, it's most likely that, being weak-willed as they are, will either keep me imprisoned or exile me instead of dealing with me now and disposing of the carcass afterwards. Stupid fools!

When I either escape or get exiled, my first task will be to get the Berserkers who were imprisoned with me and leave. Steal a ship or two as well. Making sure to hide for a while, since they'll use their accursed dragons to catch up to us and burn us with our ships.

Once we lie low and wait for the heat to die down, my next goal will be to go to Outcast Island. There were many Outcasts whom Dagur left behind, not trusting traitors. I'm not sure what's left of them now, but I'm sure most of them would be eager for revenge and will side with me. In order to do that, I must wait for Alvin to be off the island. I've heard that he sails to Berk on occasion with a retinue of men. That'll be my chance to strike and free the captives, as well as convince any of them on the island to change allegiance and serve me as their new Chieftain — and kill any who refuse as Pro-Alvin loyalists.

Once that is done I'll take whatever is on that barren hunk of volcanic rock, take the ships, and then sail for islands that will shield us from unwanted eyes from the sky. Might even take up some abandoned island outposts and bases that the Dragon Hunters left behind once the Riders laid waste to them. Hmm...

But I have every intention of fulfilling my revenge. I have every determination of fulfilling my ambitions and get what's coming to me — what's owed me!

What about you? You in?

Author's Note:

Hello, my fellow Furians! Sorry for the wait! I know I haven't been posting HTTYD fanfics in a VERY long time, but I'm hoping that I'll change that soon. I'm actually almost done with a few fanfics so far. This is the first of them. Today (09/25) is Savage Appreciation Day — a day that I created — to celebrate the wonderful minor villain that is Savage, and is the day when he first appeared in the series, which was the Riders of Berk episode "Alvin and the Outcasts", which aired on September 25, 2012. Making today the 10th Anniversary of Savage's debut.

Some people may find it weird that I'm placing such love and attention towards a minor villain, but as a character, Savage was a really good one. I was disappointed when Savage didn't become one of the new main villains of the show once the Grimborn brothers were crossed out, and was instead taken by Johann, of all people, out of nowhere. Ugh!

I planned on writing a longer and more filling fanfic for him for today, but I didn't have enough time, so I wrote this instead, which goes through Savage's thoughts. I plan on writing another Savage fic soon.

I also plan on creating a complex backstory for Savage as well as a series of fics that has Savage get his revenge and have his own warband to lead.

I hope that you enjoyed this fanfic! I'll see you soon!

Long Live the Night!
