“Finally,” Leviathan smirked with determination in his eyes holding the special edition switch port of MC's favorite game. MC's anniversary of arriving in Devildom was coming up and Leviathan remembered MC casually mentioning how their favorite game was gonna be on the switch and how sad they were when they said “ I’m broke right now though so I guess it wasn’t meant to be mine, I already have several copies anyways it’s not that important but Lord Diavolo are these guys hot on special cards and merchandise.” Leviathan noticed how MC left his room in a more gloomy mood.
That night Leviathan stayed up refreshing the site just to get the game years of doing this for himself he was sure he wouldn’t fail confident enough in his otaku abilities. But this wasn’t just for him it was for him and MC so he paid extra for shipping and got the metal game case for good measure.
Holding the game in his hands he couldn’t wait to give it to MC so they could play it together. “This time I will confess to them.” He whispered to himself, trembling a bit holding the game as if it was the red string of fate that would guide him to MC. At this moment it felt like he found an SSR item that he can equip to get a 100% success rate tonight. This moment was the hardest final boss he would ever have to face.
The game wasn’t the only reason he was pushing himself to do it tonight. It was how he noticed that MC and Lucifer had been spending more time together than normal. MC still texted him every day but physically they would always be spending time with Lucifer. It was little things Leviathan noticed that were making him restless at night and a constant feeling of jealousy eating away at him. A feeling he was well accustomed to being the avatar of envy but this was different.
It started with him asking MC if they wanted to watch a new anime together after school called Why Did This Game Give Me the Annoying Clingy Otaku Character When I was Going for The Serious Character With Dark Hair and Glasses? MC looked like their interest was peaked until they patted him on the shoulder “Sorry Levi I know you love watching anime as it airs. But Lucifer asked me if I could help him with something. Is it okay if you record it and I’ll watch it later with you?” MC then walked away not even looking back at him or commenting on how his mood changed they just followed Lucifer out the door.
At first, Leviathan thought it was because they weren’t interested in it because they talked about how much they loved the serious dark hair character and double points if he has glasses. But even though MC said they would watch it with him that day never came. He started seeing MC going to Lucifer's room at night, reading with him in the library, and staying with him after school to help him, the final straw that confirmed his suspicion about them was when he woke up early one morning and saw MC and Lucifer in the kitchen drinking coffee it was just a casual conversation but the way MC eyes was sparkling like Lucifer was talking about something they really loved.
The way MC's eyes don’t look at him that way anymore. But he knows the feeling really well from the experience of their all-night gaming together when MC would pick the correct answer and the love interest meter went up. Their eyes would look straight at him shining so bright he thought he could actually go blind just looking into them but thought it would be worth it if he could hold on to that light a little longer. But the moment would always end.
Leviathan shook those thoughts from his head. Maybe they were just getting closer. MC was doing the same with all the brothers throughout the years and then him as well so maybe now they are just getting to know Lucifer more and when they get bored they would go back and spend time doing things they actually like with him. That will definitely change tonight MC would be so happy I got them their favorite game they would probably wanna play it as soon as possible then I and MC would finally be together as more than just friends.
Leviathan ran down the stairs almost falling on the last step but caught himself in time. He knew exactly where MC would be at this time during the day in the library probably with Lucifer again. Leviathan took a deep breath trying to calm himself down so he doesn’t mess this up. He stopped right at the entrance peeking to see if they were in there. Leviathan's heart started to race as he saw MC was by themself now was the perfect opportunity. He took another deep breath before entering.
“Hey MC, is Lucifer not here today?” Leviathan looked around pretending he didn’t already know.
MC put the book down they were reading to look up at Levi “He was here but he went to make us some food what’s up.”
Feeling more nervous now since he realized he has 10 minutes to do this he held out the box “I uh got this for you. I know it’s not the anniversary of you coming to Devildom yet but I wanted to show you as soon as it came in because I know how much you like it, especially the guy with the glasses.” Leviathan couldn't stop the words from flying out of his mouth so he had to force himself to stop. Leviathan was scared at first but when he saw that sparkle in MC’s eyes the one he was longing for. The way MC used to look at him. He knew now was the moment to tell them. Leviathan took a deep breath and then blurted out before MC could say anything “ I also wanna be more than friends.”
“Oh.”
“Oh.”
It was at this moment Leviathan's heart shattered. He understood what this meant. He knew this was the worst scenario actually playing out. He was able to confirm it when he saw the light that was once shining so bright was now dim and glazed over. Leviathan couldn’t breathe at this point it felt like MC's voice was further away the room was caving in. Leviathan suppressed the urge to cry it would make him look even more pathetic than he already did.
MC cleared their throat trying to break the awkward silence “ Thank you for the gift really it’s the best gift I ever got but.”
But of course, there was a but Leviathan knew what the next sentence was that would leave their lips and he couldn’t bear it he didn’t wanna hear what he was denying for so long.
“I thought you already knew I’m dating Lucifer.” MC tried to reach out to touch Leviathan on the shoulder but his body moved like they would break him if they went near him.” MC decided it was finally time to tell Leviathan how they felt. “I really did like you Levi but, I wanted to be more than friends for so long but you kept saying I was your “friend” so I assumed you didn’t feel the same way.” MC was hesitant to continue “Maybe if you told me months ago I wouldn’t have said yes to Lucifer but he told me first and was assertive in how he felt. It made me feel like I wasn’t just gonna sit around and wait for someone who would never tell me how they actually feel.”
Leviathan was at a loss of words he was hurt not just for being too late but for being the one that pushed MC into Lucifer's arms. He wanted to apologize, get on his knees and beg MC to find the feelings they once had for him but he couldn't. All he could do was replay the past years through his mind and think about when would have been the right time. When had MC's feelings changed? Why couldn’t he have told them sooner?
MC tries to fill the awkward silence by interrupt his thoughts “ Levi you know I’m still me I will always love you as a friend. Please don’t think you have to shut me out. We can still be friends. Do you wanna be friends?
Leviathan was finally able to say “ I mean, I wanna be more But if friends is how I get to have you then, sure.”
MC closed the gap between them and hugged him as tight as they could. “And so we’ll be friends.”
Leviathan finally felt the feeling in his legs and was able to turn away from MC and not look back crossing paths with Lucifer while leaving. As if on cue knowing what just happened between them. Lucifer glances at Leviathan while he's leaving the way that Leviathan's acting worries are written all over Lucifer's face. Lucifer reaches out to Leviathan but Leviathan doesn’t see him. Leviathan was facing the floor defeated the whole way back to his room Leviathan was mumbling to himself “ And so we’ll be friends… And I’ll be Okay. The world won’t end If you don’t love me. Even if it feels that way.”
Leviathan locks himself away no matter how many times the brothers go to check on him he won’t come out. That night while Leviathan was having another restless night he kept picking up his phone and texting paragraphs that spilled his guts out to MC but he knew they were probably in Lucifer's bed right now. Leviathan mumbles to himself a mantra he made up after today's events “I’ll be quiet in my pining I won’t tell you about the pain I’ll be silent in the night when I know that you’re asleep But I wanna ask if you’re awake.” He hits delete paragraphs that MC will never read. There was no point if he was too late.
Leviathan went to school randomly one day. He decided to do remote learning but was told he had to come in for the council meeting today. MC ran up to him as soon as they saw him and threw their arms around him. MC smiled at him “ I’m so happy to see you.”
Leviathan stood there he didn’t know what to do he locked himself away because of MC and so he decided not to return the hug he wasn’t ready yet.
MC chuckled when they were about to say something but Leviathan interrupted them “I don’t know where the line is… So I’ll stay on my side even When you’re not on yours. I’ll tread lightly in case I might be Breaking a boundary. We used to break before.” Despite how awkward the start of the day was Leviathan was just reminded how he still wasn’t over MC he went home and couldn’t stop thinking about how pathetic and worthless waste of space he was.
He couldn’t act normal around them he wanted to tell them how pretty they looked today and how happy he was to see them doing well but he couldn’t fake a smile let alone a whole conversation. Instead he writes a text to MC but before he could send it he repeats to himself “I’ll be quiet in my pining. I won’t tell you about the pain. I’ll be silent in the night when. All I wanna do is tell you how pretty I thought you looked today.” With that, he hits delete another message MC will never see.
Leviathan is looking up at his ceiling when suddenly a notification pops up he sees it’s from MC probably wanting to ask about what he said today. Leviathan rubs his eyes swollen from crying all night. He knows that he can't keep ignoring them like this before he presses anything he has to remind himself “And so I’ll be your best friend. Simple as that. And when you play pretend. That things are the way they were. I won’t flirt back.”
He thinks back about the times he would message MC and when he would flirt with them he thought they knew that meant he likes them. Sending them memes he thought they would like the last one being a remix song of that corn kid. Leviathan takes a deep breath preparing to see what MC sent him “No, I’ll be quiet in my pining. I won’t tell you about the pain. I’ll be silent in the night when you text me and ask.” Leviathan taps MC message.
