A fault, A fall, A crash.

Summary:

Scar and Grian miss the boatem hole while trying to escape the moon, and so they get left behind in boatem.

I don't knowwww how to write a summaryyyy (don't worry it'll be changed)

Knowledge of the Boatem crew's finale is basically needed btw

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

What a mess they'd gotten themselves in to.

Of course, he knew that it was Scar's fault. He just... couldn't bring himself to put all the blame on him.

If Scar had made the rocket just a bit more to the left, perhaps he and Scar wouldn't be the only ones left in boatem.

Perhaps they wouldn't have heard their friends' fading screams as they were whisked off to who-knows-where.

Perhaps they would have been safe from the moon.

"-ian? Grian!"

Scar's panicked and shaky voice was the perfect call back to reality. He weakly pushed himself into standing up, and immediately got tackle-hugged by Scar.

"Grian, I'm so sorry, I thought it would be fine, the moon's gravitational pull decided to drop out and none of us could aim at the boatem hole and..." Scar sobbed. "You should've tried to go through mumbo's trapdoor instead."

Grian returned the hug, rubbing Scar's back in what he hoped was a comforting way. "Scar, I don't mind. Who even knows if Mumbo's theory about going past the void barrier was right! Besides, if I'm going to die with someone, I'd want no one else except for you."

Scar chuckled quietly and rubbed a tear from his eye. "So you'd like me to die?"

"I- Scar! No, of course not, why would I-" he cut himself off at the sound of Scar laughing. Forcing a scowl, he pulled away from the hug and put his hands on his hips. "Hey! Now's not the time to be making jokes!"

"Sorry, sorry, it's just cute to see you all flustered." He said, his gaze wandering towards the incoming moon. He rubbed his eyes again. "It almost gives a sense of... normality."

Blushing after Scar's offhanded comment, Grian turned to face the moon too. "Yeah, that is kind of hard to come by these days."

For a while, they both just stared towards the moon, somehow growing bigger, impossibly closer with each passing minute.

At some point, Scar held out one of his hands to Grian, who gladly accepted it. It gave them both a feeling of reassurance, the feeling that, no matter what, they would always be there for each other. Given the circumstances, it was very welcome.

They each took a moment to reflect on the possibilities that could've happened, the future that they'd lost.

Grian thought about the Boatem gigabase. It had so much potential, and the shennanigans he could've committed would've been incredible! There were so many things left unfinished too!

Scar thought about Jellie. He hoped she was ok, theoretically she should've fallen past the void like everyone else. It didn't stop him from worrying though.

Grian thought about the other hermits. They all had their own escape plans, save for a few, like BDubs, who decided to stay. He just hoped that they would all live, and they would all be happy. Maybe they might find one another again.

Scar thought about all his unfinished plans. There was still so much that he wanted to do with his base, and yet there was no more time. He had so many ideas for server-wide events and minigames, but now they would never come to fruition.

Grian thought about the moon. He still wanted to know why on earth it had gotten this big! There was no logical explanation for it, and he didn't really have a clue as to how to start researching it. That didn't mean he wouldn't try if he could, though.

Scar thought about how this was his fault. He really should've positioned the rocket closer to the centre of the boatem hole, this was his laziness finally catching up with him. He should've insisted that Grian stand in someone else's trapdoor rather than his, that way Grian wouldn't have to suffer the same fate as him.

Grian thought about Scar.

Beautiful, charismatic, hardworking Scar.

Scar thought about Grian.

Handsome, funny, generous Grian.

They both wondered if there was something more that could've grown between them, but neither would dare voice their thoughts.

"Well, I suppose this is it."

Scar turned to look at Grian's calm, lightly tear-stained face.

"Yeah, I guess it is."

There was a comfortable silence that stretched on for a couple of seconds.

"You know, I really don't mind this." Grian said. "If I die with one of my closest friends, I'd say that I died happy."

Scar laughed slightly. "Well, I'm honoured."

"Thank you for everything, Scar."

"You too."

They welcomed their fate with open arms.

Notes:
