If someone told 10 year old Tabasa that in 9 years he would start dating a laidback, sort of lazy, dragon looking doctor that came from another country, he would’ve simply laughed right at them and went back to playing with the animals in the field. Yet, here he was, on a cliff just west of the little incarner’s market that was set up in the forest near by the town he lived in setting up a simple looking picnic date for him and his boyfriend, Kantera.
But this date was no ordinary date, no, today was their 4 year anniversary, and navy blue eyed boy couldn’t have been more excited. They had started dating about a week before Kantera’s 23rd birthday, and Tabasa was 19 at that time, turning 20 later that year. Back then, it had been Tabasa to eagerly confess to the other after sustaining an injury while taking care of an animal that got a little bit too angry, and having it patched up and cared for by none other than Kantera, who lightly scolded him for being so careless and getting hurt in the first place; and now, 4 years later, it would once again be Tabasa to initiate the next step of their relationship.
He adjusted the thin, light blue blanket that he had laid out on the ground for them to sit on, trying to make sure everything was in place. With a quick glance at his watch, he figured that his beloved would arrive in no more than 10 minutes, maybe 15 if he was running late or happened to get distracted by something on his way to the date site, so he would have to be hasty with finishing the preparations. After a few more moments, everything seemed to be in place; the weaved, light brown, picnic basket placed skillfully by the corner of the blanket, but not too far that it would be unaccessible to either of them, the homemade snacks and candies (which he had to have a lot of help from Gardenia to make) already on their respective plates, and lastly, the little box in his back pocket covered in red velvet fabric, containing a pretty silver ring with a light blue gem atop, the whole thing having small vine decorations around it, he was sure Kantera would love it.
There was only one thing he was worried would go wrong. A rejection.
‘What if Kantera wasn’t ready for marriage? Or maybe he isn’t interested in me anymore.’
‘No, no.’
‘This will be fine’
Before he could let his doubt gnaw at him any longer and make him even more nervous than he already was, he heard soft footsteps approaching him from behind, causing him to jump a title in surprise and quickly turn around. His gaze was immediately met with none other than Kantera, wearing the nice grayish blue kimono that he seemed to love so much, probably because it was traditional clothing from his home town, a place he often talked about a lot, though Tabasa had never been there, not yet at least. Tabasa’s eyes traveled up to meet the other’s beautiful face, and he stood up quickly, moving closer to greet him with a hug. Kantera smiled, leaning into the hug as he wrapped his arms around the taller male. The younger leaned his head down a bit to plant a kiss on his boyfriend’s forehead, well, on his messy mop of green hair where his forehead was hiding underneath.
“Hello, darling” Kantera said fondly as they both released the hug after a moment or two “i quite like what you’ve set up” he looked over at the picnic. Tabasa was quick to respond as he gently took the other’s hand and led him over to the blanket “I would’ve done more, buuuuuut i thought you might like something simple like this” he helped Kantera get down onto the blanket who carefully brushed off any dirt or dust that had fallen onto his kimono, Tabasa sitting down once the other was comfortably sitting.
Kantera couldn’t help but laugh at this a little “There’s no need to feel as if you must go all out for me, anything you put together will take my breath away, Tabasa.” He reached a little and placed his hand overtop his lover’s. Their gaze met and they leaned in, sharing a chaste kiss for only a moment before pulling away and smiling at each other. Until Kantera noticed one of his favorite sweets set out on a little plate, he could tell it was homemade “You made those yourself? They look delectable” he used a nervous chuckle in response “Well, i had a bit of help from Gardenia, but i tried my best to perfectly follow your grandfather’s recipe”
The older carefully picked up one of the sweets and bit into it. Tabasa held his breath, waiting for a certain reaction that he was very familiar with; whenever Kantera tasted something he really liked, he always made a little happy face along with a noise that sounded somewhat similar to a squeal.
A few seconds passed. Tabasa was getting nervous ‘Did i do bad?’
But soon enough Kantera’s face scrunched up into a content smile and he continued to eat the little treat, humming and making those happy noises that his boyfriend loved ever so much. Once the sweet was fully eaten, the older looked at Tabasa happily “t’is just like the ones He would make for me back home..”
Tabasa had the expression of someone who had just won a million dollars “I’m glad you like it” he responded happily.
They leaned in to each other as the sun lowered further and further in the endless sky, letting the stars make their shining beautiful presence known to the world. Kantera rested his head on Tabasa’s shoulder. They had done this countless times, curling up under the stars together, sharing sweets and snacks, sneaking shy kisses to each other, so this star gazing date didn’t seem the slightest bit off to Kantera. He had no clue of the little surprise the other had in store for him.
“I can’t believe four years have past..” Kantera began “feels like just yesterday i was fixing up your wound.” It was true, time had flew by so quickly for the two of them, though it wasn’t at all a waste of time, no. Those four years they spent growing closer, learning more about not just each other, but themselves; their fears, desires, dreams, and wishes. It was amazing what you could learn from a relationship. Tabasa couldn’t help but smile wider at the thought, yeah, it had been a long time since they began dating hasn’t it “haha.. yeah, just goes to show how perfect we are for each other.”
The older boy giggled, turning his head to give the other a quick kiss to the neck
——
It was about an hour into their date, they had already finished munching on their snacks, Kantera eating all of the sweets he was given; it was quite evident by the content noises that escaped him as he ate that he enjoyed every single second of it.
By now, Tabasa had completely mentally prepared himself to ask Kentara to marry him. Everything was perfect; the stars were fully visible in the sky, shining brightly over them and illuminating their faces with a star-like glow, the wind was calm in no more than a gentle breeze surrounding them, making an even better reason for them to be cuddled up against each other like they were.
He took a deep breath, calming him mind best he could “Kantera, we’ve gone through a lot together, y’think?”
“Yeah,.. we have. We have been together for a long while after all” Kantera felt as Tabasa slowly pulled away and moved in front of him, turning on a song from his phone before standing up and offering a hand out to him “Care to dance?”
The semi diluted green haired boy took his hand without any hesitation, “i would love to.”
Tabasa gently gripped his hand and pulled him up, and they began to dance and sway in each other’s arms, clumsily stepping in the wrong direction every so often, since neither of them really knew how to dance well after all. But still, it felt just so perfect, like they were specifically made to be close together like this. It was like the world was slowing down just for them, as if everything was revolving around their love.
As they danced, they felt the cool wind of the night air swirling around them, the breeze running through their clothes and hair. Tabasa twirled Kantera before pulling him close and lowering him into a dip, bringing him into a kiss as he lifted the other back up. As he came fully back up, he cupped Kantera’s cheeks in his hands.
“Ever since i met you, there was something about you that always drew me in more and more, always caught my attention and i kept finding myslef wanting to know more about you, to be closer and closer to you.” He smiled, and his love seemed a little surprised by his sudden words, but that wasnt the end, not yet. “And, when we started dating, heck, i can’t even count he amount of times i had to pinch myself to make sure i wasnt dreaming, b’cause i just couldn’t believe how lucky i was getting to date you.”
Now Kantera was getting emotional
Tabasa slowly released his loving touch from the other’s face and slowly lowered himself down onto one knee. And with his hand, he reached into his back pocket and pulled out a small box, bringing it in view of the other.
And if Kantera wasn’t visibly emotional before, he definitely was now; it wasnt a bad type of emotional though, he was so overjoyed that it brought him to tears. “T-Tabasa..!”
The younger opened the little box, revealing a sparkling ring inside “Kentera, my love, my little moon shining brightly even in the darkest of skies,” now he was getting emotional too, small, barely noticeable tears pricking his eyes “I want to live out the rest of my life with you, even if we have disagreements, or- or anything happens, I’ll still be here to support and love you no matter what. So,” He paused, holding up the box a little higher “Kantera, please marry me!”
Fat globs are tears were pouring down Kantera’s face, plopping onto the ground beneath him. He tried to speak, but no words came out, so he nodded eagerly, so eagerly that Tabasa was convinced his head would pop right off.
The blue eyed boy smiled wider as he gently took the other’s hand and slipped the ring onto his slender finger, he had taken the time to figure out the perfect size to get, wanting to make sure that everything would be just right for his proposal. Once the ring was on, before he got the chance to stand up and embrace his boyfr- now fiancé, he felt the other’s weight suddenly hit him and knock him back, resulting in them both on the floor, Kantera overtop of Tabasa, hugging him tighter than he ever had. The younger laughed lightly and hugged him back, pulling back after a moment to cup his face and bring him back in for a kiss.
The kiss felt like it had lasted for hours, with Kantera being the first to pull back in order to get a gasp of air, guess thats what he gets for being lazy and never going out much for exercise, not much air capacity.
“I love you so, Tabasa..” Kantera leaned into the touch as his lover wiped away his tears.
“I love you too,.. Kantera”
They came together once again for a kiss. Physically, it wasn’t any different from their kisses when they were simply boyfriends, but something about now being fiancés and kissing felt on a completely different level.
Both were equally as excited to live their lives together.
