You smell like spring

Summary:

You and Fenrys were once lovers, mates. You still are, mates I mean, but you had a falling out. You both went your separate ways. Sometimes though, Fenrys still smells you, remembers your scent. The scent of spring.

This story is about falling out (and back in again) of love.

Remember this is an AU, and none of these characters are mine. It doesn't quite follow the story line, and it's gonna be a little different from the original.

Chapter 1: Follow the scent(in the beginning)

Chapter Text

Gods fucking damnit!

Fenrys thought, breaking through the various bushes and brush. They were chasing him, though he couldn't tell you who. They were after Aelin, he knew, said person following close behind him, but he didn't know why.

Their people had turned on them, claiming that the whole Royal family were murders, only on throne to rule them with an iron fist. Corrupt. And Lila (the king and queens daughter) was caught up in the middle. They had to get her to safety. Elide too was pregnant, and those involved with the queen shall die with the queen. There was only one safe place in the kingdom.

One safe place he trusted.

He needed to find you.

Follow the scent of spring, in the dead of winter.

That is what you told him, when you both first parted ways. It tore him in two that day, it really did. But he could not be with you, not with all his scars and wrong doings.

And you, he did not know how you felt, but he knew that he could always count on you.

The smell was getting stronger now, so he knew you were just up ahead.

Follow the scent of spring...

He was coming home, back to you.

Fenrys all but hope your offer still stood, that you would at least protect them for a short while.

Just when he thought all hope was lost, that they would never get to safety, he saw, up ahead, a glimmer of light.

The scent hit him, stronger, then. He breathed a sigh if relief, and directed the others to the light. The storm raged on, and those that were following were close behind. But he knew you would not allow them in. At least, he hoped not.

Taking one last glance behind him, he stepped through your barrier.

It was like he was next to a warm fire. The trees were full, and had ripe fruit in them.

The grass was green and the streams were flowing. Everything was at peace in here.

Obviously, someone entering into your home would cause alarm. And obviously, you would have to come out.

Fenrys breath hitched as you calmly stepped out of your home.

You were as beautiful as the day he left, the seasons taking no toll on you.

At first you didn't regonize him, and you automatically went into attack mode. He stepped forward, so that you could clearly see his face. It didn't help that the blood was still there, both his and someone else's.

He watched the realization hit your face, and what came next he was not expecting.

You threw him.

Grabbed him with whatever power you had and threw him across your clearing.

You would be angry with him he knew, but this?

Aelin, ever the strong women she is, drew close, Baring her teeth. Fenrys held up his hand.

He tried standing up, but you didn't give him a chance.

He was thrown again, this time against one of your beautiful trees. You stomped toward him, anger ablaze.

"W-wait my love, let me explain!" He let out. You stood over him, glowering down.

"What the fuck Fen! Why are you here? I get nothing from you! Nothing! For over 500 years, and you just show up! What the hell!"

He sighed. "I wanted to give you space. I didn't think you wanted to see me." He took a quick glance at you before turning away. He couldn't bare to see the distraught on your face.

You but your lip, continuing to look at him before turning your attention toward the others.

"What happened?" You asked, helping him to his feet.

Fenrys didn't say anything, still marveling at the fact that you were here, in front of him. And despite the fact that you had(almost) killed him, he wasn't dead.

You stared at him, then nudged him softly.

"Fen."

"We were attacked, at the castle. They were going after the Royal Family, and anyone involved with them."

Now that he thought about it, he hoped Coal and the others were ok.

You nodded.

"What do you need."

You.

"Just a place to lie low for a bit, and to figure out what's going on."

You nodded again.

"Get inside, I'll fix you guys up."
