Work Text:
Sometimes she’ll – she’ll look his way. Sometimes. Sometimes she sees him. sometimes she notices.
Sometimes.
Not always.
It.
Is.
Infuriating.
He is a prince. He is above the petty rabble that surrounds her. She is above them. She tolerates them. He does not. He hates them, always sucking up and stealing the attention away from him.
His attention. His! It’s no one else’s! He’s the crown prince! He’s the important son, the only one worth remembering! The only one worth the dirt she steps on, the heels she wears, the finery she clothes herself in, the maids she totes around! He is worth everything! Every penny, every gramme of gold, every speck of silver. He is worth an entire kingdom! He’s worth her!
And yet, and yet, and fucking yet.
She passes him by.
He offers marriage to this queen in the skin of a normal noble. And she always, always says “No.”
Always.
Always no.
“No.”
She says “No.”
To him?
No?
To HIM?
But she’ll come around. She has to. He’s the crown prince, right? He’s the important son, right? He’s the special one, the privileged one. The powerful one, the handsome one, the perfect one. He. Is. The. One.
The One.
He is all she needs.
But she says “No.”
But that’s okay. That’s okay! He’ll play friends with her friends, he’ll simper and genuflect, kneel to her whims. She is his queen. She just doesn’t know it yet.
She says “No.”
But that’s fine.
She’ll come around eventually.
