Savannah With The Greenest Eyes

Summary:

Savannah was a name he knew, but could not give a face to. Perhaps it was best to give it to the girl who longed for some sort of identity.

AU where Jane's actual name is Savannah Mallory, a girl with the greenest eyes. Ricky and herself, unknowingly give her back some of her life. I'm also heavily implying that they're dating bc I ship them :)

Notes:

The italicized bit at the beginning is a memory that Ricky barely remembers, but it's the reasoning for why he recalls the name Savannah :)

Anywho, not sure if I'll continue on this idea, it sorta depends on feedback that I'll get.

Work Text:

He recalls the name Savannah but he doesn't know why...

It was at the beginning of class, the bell had rung and he was seated next to Noel, only able to sit and soak in the room around him. Their teacher, (he never remembered his name, it’s not like it really mattered in the long run), was introducing a new student to the class. Typically at this point, he’d have tuned him out and allowed himself to get lost in his fantasies, but part of him felt intrigued by the idea of a new classmate so far into the semester. He glanced up at the door just as it opened.

Compared to the other girls in their class, she was absolutely breathtaking.

The first thing that managed to get his attention was her doe-eyed eyes. They were the greenest ones he had ever seen. They were so bright and full of life, it made him want to smile at the sight of her. Her hair was platinum blonde and extremely curly, sitting just above her shoulders. It bounced a little with each step she took. The small smile she had on her face seemed to be the final piece to complete her ethereal look. Part of her reminded him of those porcelain dolls that his aunt collected. Too perfect and neat in every way.

“Everyone, this is your new classmate Savannah Mallory. Please treat her the same way you wished to be treated in return.” Their teacher turned to the girl. “You can take the empty seat near Ms. Blackwood over there.” The girl nodded and made her way to her new designated spot, eyes seeming to stop on Ricky just a moment longer than they did on anyone else.

Green eyes seemed to be the only thing she could recall.

The ones she was able to think of were a lovely shade of green. One that would remind you of the leaves on the trees, so full of life and so healthy. Why was it the only thing she could remember? Why could she remember nothing else?

Like her name. Or who she used to be?

Why something as small as an eye color? Perhaps she could have green eyes if she tried to imagine it hard enough, but perhaps not.

“How do we know it’s my birthday?” The sudden voice caused him to jolt in his seat. He turned quickly to face the girl who approached him.

“...How do we know it’s not your birthday?” She tilted her head in thought for a moment.

“People have names on pretend birthdays too…” Her words made him…sad? At the thought that this girl possibly may never know who she was. Part of him felt bad. Perhaps giving her a name may help her accept this all better. It was worth a shot he assumed, and for some reason, one name kept sticking out to him.

“You could call yourself Savannah?” She leaned in closer.

“What’s a…Savannah?”

“Savannah is a special name I’ve been saving and thinking about recently, but you can have it. 'Cause everything I’ve been saving has to go. It’s a fire sale in my brain, and everything must go, by m-m-m-midnight.” She pauses before taking a seat next to him.

“I like Savannah…”

“Well, you can have her.”

“Can Savannah have the greenest eyes?”

“Yes.”

“...Savannah…with the greenest eyes.”

“I think that sounds nice…Savannah.”

She leans in a little closer before carefully wrapping her arms around him loosely in an attempt at a hug. His eyes widen slightly as he processes what she just did, before bringing his own arms up to return the action.
