Chapter Text
Quirks. The epitome of human evolution.
People have gained superpowers by some unknown force of nature.
In this world, people are born with them.
These powers have become the building blocks of the society they live in.
People with quirks are deemed the chosen ones, heroes. Heroes, the ones who protect the weak and powerless.
In Japan, there in a classroom sat a young boy with ambitions.
Ambitions he hoped to achieve despite his lack of a quirk.
The boy had long green bushy hair that almost covered his deep green eyes, and had freckles littered across his face.
The boy’s name is Izuku Midoriya.
He looked out the window of his classroom with his hand on his chin as he pondered in thought, thoughts elsewhere as his teacher droned on in the classroom.
“Oi, Deku!” Midoriya jumped.
A loud male's grating voice shouted. T
he male had banged his table in order to get his attention.
Midoriya's eyes widened as he looked at the male.
The male wore his uniform unbuttoned, something a school delinquent would wear.
He had spiky ash blonde hair, and piercing red eyes stuck in a glare.
His breath smelled like smoke. His name was Bakugou Katsuki, Midoriya’s ‘childhood best friend’.
“What do you want Kacchan?” Midoriya asked, sweat beading on his brow.
“Haven’t you noticed class ended? Or are you stuck in your daydreams again?” Bakugou mocked.
His voice sounded like scratching sandpaper. Dry and rough to listen to.
“I see. Thanks for informing me.” Midoriya stood up from his seat, and grabbed his backpack as he went on his way to leave the room when…
“Aren’t you forgetting something Deku?”Bakugou smirked, waving a notebook in his hand.
The notebook was labeled No.16, it contained drawings and notes about strengths and weaknesses of heroes and villains alike.
“Kacchan…give it back.” Midoriya said carefully as his shocked face turned wary.
He was afraid of what would happen if he didn’t get it out of Bakugo’s hands.
“Or else what? It’s not like you can do anything, can you quirkless Deku?” Bakugou mocked as he waved the notebook around.
Just as Midoriya reached out to get the notebook back, it was too late.
Bakugou took the notebook in his hands and blew it up. BOOM!
The notebook was scarred, singed both front and back thanks to Bakugou’s quirk.
Midoriya could only stare at him in shock, crestfallen at what he had just done.
“Heh. You’re too slow.” Bakugou said as he opened the window, throwing the notebook out into the pond outside.
Midoriya ran to the window to see the notebook soaked in the pond.
“What the hell is wrong with you?!” Midoriya cried.
He looked at Bakugou with glossy eyes, brimming with unshed tears.
He looked at him. They made eye contact for the first time in a long time.
The longer he looked at him, the more could he not find the friend he knew that loved him.
He had vastly changed from the childhood friend he knew.
He could only see hatred in his dark crimson eyes, staring at him like he was the gravel under his feet.
He couldn’t believe the eyes he once knew would look at him like that.
He could only wipe his eyes on his sleeve as the tears began to shed.
He ran out of the room to retrieve the notebook andwithin earshot Bakugou hollered, “Maybe you should jump off the roof, dumb Deku!
It might give you a quirk in your next life!”
As Bakugou laughed, Midoriya could only freeze in shock.
Tears welling in his eyes.
He knew Bakugou was bad but…not to the point where he would say that… but he did.
There were so many things that he did that he thought Bakugou would never do so how was this any different?
And why?Whenever he hurt him, why did it always hurt so much more than the last?
He ran down the stairs to retrieve his notebook, every page soaked.
The words and drawings were smudged.
You couldn’t see anything even if you tried. Midoriya frantically flipped through the notebook, hoping that maybe, just maybe a single page could be saved. When he realized he couldn’t… He sobbed.
All of his hard work is gone just like that.
Midoriya slowly walked home, his eyes puffy from all the crying as he gripped his yellow backpack tightly.
He’d tried drying the notebook out by letting his handkerchief soak the water up but the notebook was too wet so it ripped. Now it was just in a recycling bin.
Midoriya was so busy in his thoughts that he didn’t notice a strange green bubbling liquid coming for him.
“MMPH!'' The sludge had Midoriya by the mouth, engulfing Midoriya’s body as it tried to devour him.
It hurt him wherever it’s skin made contact, his clothes slowly burning into his skin as he screamed and cried from the pain.
He was drowned out by the sludge as he slowly choked and suffocated to death.
Midoriya's eyes were stinging as he suffered silently.
FWOOSH! There was a heavy gust of air that blew the sludge away. Midoriya's body went limp as he fell but never hit the ground.
"Ngh?" Midoriya felt groggy as slowly opened his eyes to see white, bright lights flashing on his eyes.
He was in a hospital gown and he could see a hanging dextrose connected to his wrist…What was he doing in a hospital?!
He quickly sat up only to flinch and shout in pain.
It was worse than any injury Bakugou's ever inflicted on him.
What was going on? It felt like he was wrapped in bandages everywhere.
He was right, he was wrapped head to toe in bandages, making him look like a mummy.
"Welcome back to Hero News, an update on the recent villain attack-"
The television was playing the news and on the screen Midoriya saw a green sludge as well as fire everywhere.
Why was no one doing anything?
Midoriya thought as he squinted his eyes at the screen.
His eyes were not focusing well since he had just woken up.
Then he heard it. Explosions.
Those were Bakugo's explosions.
There's no mistaking it. Even if they were others with explosion quirks he knew what Bakugo's sounded like.
He froze.
Was he in the sludge? He looked closer into the tv to see explosions coming out of the sludge every once in a while, however they were growing weaker by the minute.
Kacchan needs me!
Was Midoriya's immediate thought as he carefully removes the dextrose to only cry in pain as he bit his tongue.
He got up.
And despite all the pain and aches he felt in his body, he ran.
"Hey! What are you doing here?! You should be in your room!"
A nurse scolded Midoriya when he was in the hallway. Midoriya panicked as he looked around to try and find the fire escape. He quickly got away.
When he got outside, he smelled it.
The smell of sulfur and smoke in the air.
It was thick, putrid, and stinging to breathe in.
He was coughing from how thick and dark it was.
You could hear sirens and see the bright fire burning in the dark night.
The hospital Midoriya was in must be the nearest hospital to the villain attack.
As he arrived at the scene, you could hear the sounds of sirens and firefighters as well as a firefighter hero putting out the fires.
As Midoriya tried to go through the barricade the police stopped Midoriya.
They prevented Midoriya from passing through.
"What are you doing here?! It's dangerous for civilians here to be here!"
Damn it! Kacchan doesn't have any time left!!
Midoriya, without any hesitation, pushed through the barricade.
He ran and dodged the fire and debris, as he felt blisters growing on his feet the more he ran.
Midoriya had arrived to see the villain nearly consuming Bakugou; he screamed.
Kacchan!
Tears were welling in his blood-shot eyes.
He could barely see from all the smoke and dust.
The villain was slowly and surely consuming Bakugou.
Bakugou, trying to get the villain off of him, as his stamina and power slowly died out.
You could see his blood all over the floor.
He had never seen his friend's body so weak and lifeless… Midoriya just had enough of everything.
"Come and get me you slimey freak!"
Midoriya shouted as all the buildings were slowly collapsing in on them.
When he saw the acid villain following him, he ran as fast as he could.
Despite all of the hot, heavy air of smoke and sulfur entering his lungs, his body burning and aching all over, he limply ran.
He ran to the police's barricades so the police and heroes could catch the villain or do something, anything- but then the adrenaline wore off and the acid monster got him.
He was grabbed from behind, lifting him in the air then choking him as it crushed his throat.
FWOOSH!
There it was again, that strong gust of air.
Bakugou and Midoriya's bodies fell to the ground, but before their bodies landed, they were caught by a pair of strong arms.
If you listened carefully, you would hear a voice amongst all the chaos.
"I'm sorry."
