Work Text:
A frantic scream rang out across the living room. On screen, an actor ran from a poorly costumed monster.
A burst of laughter erupted from Kairi as she sat on her couch. Under her arm sat Loba, hugging a pillow in her lap. A sudden shriek caused the thief to flinch, but she too was laughing.
“I didn’t know it was gonna be this bad,” Imahara apologized, glancing over to her.
“I like it,” Loba assured, giggling. They locked eyes, slowly leaning in, when--
-- Andrade received a text.
“Don’t worry. I'm not there."
Andrade’s eyes snapped up, searching the room. The windows. It was dark out. The shades had been shut for hours. She looked to the doorways. No one.
“What’s up? What’s wrong?” Imahara asked, pausing the movie. The thief showed her the message.
Kairi frowned, “The source says its junk.” Still, the hair at the back of Loba’s neck had already stood on end. As though they were being watched.
“It’s the demonio. Who else would send this?”
It was then the thief noticed a gentle breeze fall over her skin.
“Angel, did you leave a window open?” The question fell nervously from Loba’s lips.
“I’m pretty sure that’s just a vent…” Imahara offered, but Andrade was already up, brandishing the Garra de Alanza. The pilot balked but got up to follow.
The thief had traced the airflow throughout the apartment and into the pilot’s bathroom, an open door leading to nothing. Slowly, Loba reached out into it, nails tapping along the doorframe and along the wall in search of the switch. Waiting for someone to reach out and grab her wrist. Turning on the light, it flickered on. Stepping into the bathroom, her gaze fell to the reflection of the mirror. A tall shadow stood behind the door.
“Augh!”
Loba swung out her extended fan. The force of it slammed the door shut with a muffled thud. The same breeze hit the back of Andrade’s neck, and she spun around, fan at the ready to see… a ceiling vent.
“Loba, did you just slice up my bathrobe?” Kairi queried from the other side of the door.
Andrade had in fact cut through a robe hanging off the back of it.
With a cringe, Loba exited the bathroom. It became a coy smile as she gave the pilot a cute shrug.
“Maybe?”
Just before Kairi could respond, Loba’s phone vibrated. She had received another text; her stomach dropped.
“Told you. I'm not there."
A knock tapped at the front door. Andrade jumped and both Legends stared at it in silence.
There came another knock, mechanically the same as the first.
With a huff and grit of her teeth, the thief angrily tapped out a reply.
“So, where are you?”
Imahara grabbed Suzaku and took point by the door.
When an answer didn’t come immediately back, Andrade sneered and tapped her foot in impatience.
Another knock came from the door.
A sudden chill urged the thief to run for her P2020 and join Imahara on the other side of the front door. They shared one more look, readying. The pilot unlocked it, yanking it open.
There stood a standard MRVN.
It gave them a wave. Smile on screen, it handed Kairi a simple bright orange bag. Then, it walked away. Quickly closing the door after it, Kairi looked to Loba in confusion, before carefully peaking inside. In the bag was…
“Candy?” The pilot asked, picking out a piece in a shiny striped wrapper. The thief sighed and rolled her eyes.
“Better check it for poison.”
Loba would only receive one more mysterious text that night.
"Happy Halloween!!"
