So Good

Summary:

“Jungkook…” Taehyung whispers, but nothing follows.

“Taehyung,” Jungkook says as he caresses Taehyung’s cheek.

“Don’t go, please?” Taehyung still refuses to look at him when he says this but it’s only because it hurts him more to see the other’s expression of regret. He knows that Jungkook suffers when he asks for this and so does he but he tries every time anyway, maybe today is different.

“You know I can’t.”

Maybe not.

Every time is the same. After those words, they kiss like it’s the last time because perhaps it will be the last. They kiss until their lips turn slightly purple because maybe this pain won’t be as bad as the pain inside their chests.

Notes:

It's been really hard to write this. I've been trying to write again and work on my book but depression has been kicking my ass. I found this song the other day and I started writing but it took me some time, and even if it's a short story it was really difficult to put my ideas in order. It's not as easy as before!

The song is "So Good" by Halsey, listen to it and/or watch the MV. I based most of it on the video and lyrics!

Thank you!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The bed is warm not only because of the bodies that lay there but because it has become heaven on Earth, a safe place, where everything is okay and perfect but as one body moves, this place becomes cold and scary. It’s a place where happiness only lasts a few hours, sometimes only thirty minutes, depending on their luck.

Taehyung feels the coldness touch his back and it’s scary, really fucking scary. He knows what that means and there is no other feeling that makes him shake; for a moment, he doesn’t want to open his eyes. He’s done it a few times. He pretends that he’s asleep so he doesn’t have to say goodbye, so he doesn’t have to look at the other’s eyes that also have sadness in them but mostly because he doesn’t want his tears to roll down.

This time he doesn’t pretend, even if he wants to keep his eyes closed, they are wide open and staring at the bathroom door. He can hear the other changing and getting ready to leave but all he can do is wait, he’s been doing it for the past three years.

He remembers how it all started and also knows that it’s wrong but he can’t stop. Taehyung is the worst friend to ever exist.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you up.”

Taehyung’s eyes focus on the man that’s fixing his tie. There’s a small smile, “You didn’t,” he lies.

This man is Taehyung’s whole world.

He knew the moment they touched hands the first time when they met, it was like a spark, right at the fingertips, in their eyes. Both of them knew what this was. Taehyung remembers the moment so clearly because that was the moment when his heart felt for the first time, when his body reacted a certain way like never before and when a simple smile made him feel alive.

Taehyung watches his world from afar though, because even if they are in the same solar system, they can’t orbit too close to each other so all he does is watch and wait and hope.

He giggles when he sees him struggle with the tie, something that hasn’t changed in these past years. He stands and walks closer to him, “Let me help you with that.”

They both smile. It’s all they can do.

The tie looks good on him, Taehyung thinks. It’s one he gave him last year, it goes well with his skin tone. He feels tightness around his throat and he’s not wearing anything but he knows that the words getting stuck there are responsible for this feeling. He stares at the tie, his hands stay holding it but he is afraid to look at the man in front of him.

“Hey,” the man says, “look at me.”

Taehyung does.

“I love you,” he says.

Taehyung believes him, he can see it in his eyes and in the way he smiles at him. “I love you too,” he doesn’t know how the words manage to come out but they do. He looks down again as his smile faints. Why does it get harder every time?

Taehyung stays in bed but he reaches for a cigarette from the nightstand, as he always does after Jungkook leaves, and he thinks. Maybe Jungkook will get home and hug his girlfriend close to him. Maybe he will make love to her. Maybe… just maybe, he will tell her that it’s over. Maybe he will come back and stay with him forever, as they are meant to. But that never happens. Taehyung hopes but that has just become a dream of his. Just like the smoke that escapes from his mouth, his happiness vanishes in the air.

It’s been three years since they started this and each time it gets harder and harder, not only to hide it but to say goodbye. They both know it’s wrong but why should true love be so wrong? Maybe the timing isn’t right, maybe the circumstance, maybe the consequences, maybe everything.

Jungkook has become the worst boyfriend. Taehyung has become the worst friend.

It was October when it happened, Taehyung’s friend, Mari, introduced her boyfriend to him. It all happened so fast that Taehyung forgot he was falling in love at first sight with his friend’s boyfriend. His friend’s boyfriend.

He never truly believed in love at first sight until it actually happened. The world stops, the words become soundless, your lungs no longer work and your heart… your heart simply falls. More than falling, it feels like it floats. Taehyung was scared to feel this for his friend’s boyfriend but even more to simply let his heart give in.

The problem with falling in love is that it happens unconsciously. Nothing prepares you for it.

Taehyung waits again, the doorbell rings and there is hope once more. When the door opens, he smiles and his world becomes meaningful again because the man he loves came back to him and he can see that Jungkook is just as happy.

“Hi,” Taehyung says a little shy because even after three years he still feels like it’s the first time. The same rush, the same butterflies, the same heat, and also the same guilt but as much as he wants to stop, he can’t because Jungkook is worth it all.

“Hi, sunshine.” Jungkook smiles and his smile is almost as bright as the sunflowers he is holding.

He hands them to Taehyung, who smiles even bigger because that’s where his nickname comes from, sunflowers remind Jungkook of the sun. Jungkook makes sure to buy Taehyung sunflowers whenever he can. Sunflowers aren’t as beautiful as Taehyung but they come pretty close.

Once the door closes, it’s just them. It’s just Jungkook and Taehyung inside this apartment.

There is no boyfriend Jungkook or friend Taehyung. They are just them and their love. There is no fear or second thoughts because right now, they create their own world, and here the only thing that matters is that they are together once more.

“You look gorgeous,” Jungkook says. He takes Taehyung’s hand and makes him spin so he can look at him. “Emerald green looks so good on you, love.”

“Thank you. It’s the suit you got me for my birthday.”

“I know,” Jungkook smiles.

That’s all it takes for Taehyung’s heart to float just like the first time.

Taehyung smiles, he moves closer to Jungkook and kisses him, softly but needy because he knows the clock is ticking even when time seems to stop when he is in Jungkook’s arms. They kiss and it’s only now that it feels right.

Their eyes close and they start to undress forgetting that there’s food on the table but they are more hungry for each other than food. Jungkook’s silly attempt at tying his tie makes it easier to undo it and Taehyung laughs through the kiss because Jungkook will never learn to do it the right way despite teaching him so many times. But that’s the thing, Taehyung wants to teach him more than tying a tie, and he wants to learn more from him than just cooking pasta the right way.

“Guess what?” Taehyung says after the kiss, he takes Jungkook’s hand and starts walking to his room but continues talking. “I have an interview tomorrow for that filming company I told you about.”

“That’s great, sunshine! I’m so proud of you.”

“I’m excited! If I get this job I’ll be able to work on this project I always wanted to do for this film competition.”

“What project?” Jungkook sits down on the bed, he is only wearing his underwear and is just waiting for Taehyung to do the same. It seems Taehyung has become a master in undressing him, years of practice are paying off.

“Mm, I’ll show you when it’s finished.” Taehyung sounds like a little kid when they are about to do something bad. “I have a good feeling about this so maybe it will be very soon that you get to see it.”

Jungkook smiles and welcomes Taehyung as he sits on his lap, “I’m sure you’ll get the job, you are very talented, Sunshine.”

He believes anything Jungkook says but this is different because he knows what he is capable of when it comes to filming. It’s his passion and creativity that made him one of the best in his class.

“Thank you,” Taehyung whispers and then kisses Jungkook.

It tastes sweet, almost peachy, and Taehyung doesn’t mind that he is basically eating Jungkook’s chapstick but thanks to this, the fact that it always smells and tastes like peach when they kiss, Taehyung carries one just like his everywhere he goes. He only needs to open it to be brought back to this very moment when Jungkook and he kiss like they are meant for each other.

Perhaps in other lives, they can be together. Perhaps in past lives, they were. But their stubborn hearts insist to be together in this one as well.

Despite the risks, the consequences, and the pain, they continue with this. Jungkook’s hands hold Taehyung’s back and flip them so he can be on top and see Taehyung from above because that’s the best view. From above, Taehyung’s moles are more noticeable and the way his hair spills on the bedsheets just makes him look fragile like Jungkook can crack his skin if he is too rough.

He goes slow and makes sure to kiss his forehead before anything else. He does this all the time, it feels very intimate and it’s something that he only does to him and only when they are like this, raw and vulnerable because that’s when he wants Taehyung to see his love the most. Jungkook can’t give him a happy ending but he wants to at least show him that there is no one else in his heart but him and he does a pretty good job. That’s why it hurts even more.

There’s not much talking, but as Taehyung feels Jungkook becoming one with him, he also feels his soul break a little more. He gets a new crack each time because he is always reminded that this happiness can only be theirs at this very moment and yes, it should be like that because lovers should share this only between them but Taehyung knows that after they are done, the happiness will leave just like Jungkook. He wants more. He knows he is greedy, even more so because he is being greedy with a man that’s not his.

Every move, every kiss, every touch, and every single breath becomes another memory that they will cherish in silence. Taehyung wishes the tears running down his face were only made of pleasure and love and for some reason tonight hurts more than ever. There’s this feeling he never felt before, one that doesn’t let him concentrate and doesn’t let him focus on making love to Jungkook.

Without realizing it, Jungkook has stopped. “What’s wrong, sunshine?”

Taehyung doesn’t answer but he hugs Jungkook and cries, sobs, and shakes and it is now that he realizes that the sounds he was letting out were not of pleasure but it was just this ugly feeling that wanted to escape from his chest.

“Taehyung,” Jungkook says. His hands wrap around his lover without hesitation, “What’s wrong? Talk to me, babe.”

“I know it’s bad,” Taehyung says and there is fear in his voice because he knows that this fight… no, this war is one he will never win. “Jungkook… please, stay with me.”

Jungkook closes his eyes, and even if his heart breaks every time Taehyung asks for the same thing, this time is different. The way Taehyung’s voice breaks and the way he holds on to him makes his heart break completely.

“Taehyung,” is all he managed to whisper in response. His own eyes don’t want to open to face the crude reality.

“I’ll stop smoking. I know you don’t like it but I’ll quit smoking just like you gave up coffee for me.”

There’s a small smile on Jungkook’s lips even if this is not the time for that but he finds it cute that Taehyung knows how much he hates that he smokes but he never asked him to stop. Just like Taehyung never asked him to stop drinking coffee, but he always noticed when Taehyung made faces as if he was eating a lemon every time they kissed and Jungkook had coffee breath.

“Taehyung, you know it’s not that.”

“I’ll find a good job. I’ll get a job that’s at the same level as yours, I promise I will be better.”

“Taehyung-”

“Please, Jungkook, I promise I’ll give you everything she gives you.”

Taehyung’s tears are running down Jungkook’s back but he doesn’t let go. It’s been three years and the feeling inside his chest had never been stronger, it’s something he can’t control but at some point, it had to come out. It’s tonight that this monster inside Taehyung decided to come out but only because he feels like tonight will be the last time it will show. It’s frightening.

“Taehyung,” Jungkook pulls him so they can face each other, “You know I love you and I don’t need any of those things to continue doing it.”

“Then stay with me,” Taehyung whispers. “I know it’s bad but we could be so good.”

We already are…

Time stops again but this time, it feels like it does everywhere and not only in the room. Taehyung can see Jungkook’s eyes getting wet and his face changing to a defeated expression and it hurts a lot more because Jungkook had never looked this way before. There has always been sadness and disappointment but never this expression, there was always hope, a little light in his eyes that gave strength to Taehyung. Now there’s nothing.

“I love you,” is all Jungkook can say.

And Taehyung knows. He knows more than ever that love is not enough for a happy ending. Those three words that were his entire happiness, those three words that made his world move, those three words that became his oxygen every time Jungkook voiced them, are now hurting him so much.

“I will always love you, Taehyung.”

He doesn’t want to hear them anymore and it’s not that he doesn’t believe Jungkook but they simply hurt. Taehyung feels Jungkook clean his cheek and it burns just as much as those three words but if this is the only way to keep Jungkook’s touch on his skin then he hopes that this burning leaves a scar.

There’s nothing more to say so they kiss. Tenderly and slow. This kiss tastes bittersweet, bitter from the tears, and sweet because, despite it all, there is love, so much love. It’s a kiss that weighs so much. Taehyung will never forget this kiss because it’s a kiss that feels like many others, it’s a kiss that takes him to heaven but it’s also this kiss that is sinking him all the way down to hell.

“You’re curriculum is amazing, Mr. Kim.”

Taehyung smiles and he feels the makeup stretch on his skin. He had to do something about his swollen eyes and that was the only way to show up to his interview looking somewhat alive. “Thank you.”

“Your way with the camera and the directing is just incredible. I watched your short films and I loved every single one of them. The stories behind them are true masterpieces.”

Taehyung looks down and only one face comes to his mind but he knows that if more memories come back, he will break. Yet, he can’t help but think about his muse. “Thank you.”

“If I’m being honest, you are the most qualified for the job.” The man closes the folder and puts it on the table. “I would like to offer you the position.”

“Really?”

“Yes!”

“I would be honored to work with you, Mr. Son.”

“When can you start?”

“As soon as possible.”

“Mmm…” the man stands up and goes to talk to his secretary who brings him another folder a few minutes later. “There’s this project that we are starting next week and I would like you to be part of it.”

Taehyung looks shocked but he is excited to see how much Mr. Son wants him to work on projects already. “Y-Yes! I’ll be happy to be part of this.”

“There’s only one thing, though.” Mr. Son gives Taehyung the folder, which is the contract and the information about the project. “It’s overseas.”

“Let’s take a short break!” Taehyung screams. “Something’s not right,” he moves his neck and it cracks but that’s exactly what he needed.

“What’s not right?” his assistant asks.

“I don’t know.” Taehyung stands up and walks to the camera that’s focusing on the scenario where the two actors are getting their makeup retouched. The setup looks right. The actors look relaxed and they’ve gotten all their lines right. The hair, the colors, everything looks right, so what is it?

“Maybe you just need a smoke.”

“I quit two years ago, Jiminie.”

“Right,” Jimin giggles. “Let’s go take a breather then.”

“Alright.”

The sky is clear after the storm that was hitting the city, but the temperature is still in the fifties so both men are shivering because they forgot their jackets. They don’t go far because it’s only a short break and even if Taehyung is the director, they need to finish this scene by the end of the day.

“You look tense,” Jimin points out. “Maybe you are getting sick?”

“Just frustrated that this scene is not coming out the way I want it.”Taehyung pushes his hair back with both hands as he takes a deep breath. It’s something he’s been doing a lot lately, Jimin is surprised he’s not bald.

“Are you sure that’s all?”

“Something’s n-”

Before Taehyung can continue, his phone starts ringing and it’s weird because it’s a different time zone in Seoul so it can’t be his parents but maybe it’s from the company so he takes out his phone.

“Aren’t you going to answer?” Jimin asks when he sees Taehyung staring at his phone. “Taehyung, are you okay? You really look sick now.”

Taehyung’s pale and his eyes are wide. It’s a number from Korea and the only people that know about his new number are his family members and he has all of them saved. Who can it be? He doesn’t want to take a guess because luck is never on his side, that much is very clear.

The phone keeps ringing and Jimin is getting worried. “Taehyung?”

Taehyung doesn’t want to but only one face comes to his mind, a face that he still remembers after all these years. So clear and so neat as if not a day has passed since he last saw this person. Perhaps the reason this person is so fresh in his mind is that he thinks about him every day, every hour of the day even after almost two years.

The ringing stops and Taehyung brings the phone to his ear and for a moment he stops breathing. “Hello?”

“Taehyung?”

“Ma-Mari?”

“Hi, Taehyung!”

Taehyung doesn’t know if he feels relieved or disappointed. “How are you? How… How did you get my number?”

“That’s the first thing you ask?” Mari laughs, “I saw your dad the other day and I asked him. After you disappeared, I had to ask for your number to make sure you were okay.”

“I’m…” destroyed, Taehyung wants to say. He wants to say so much, he wants to apologize, he wants to ask how she’s doing because that’s the normal thing to do, he wants to say that his heart was broken by a man they both know too well. He wants to ask her about this man. “... okay. And you?”

“I’m good!”

Taehyung doesn’t know what else to say, not because he doesn’t have words but because the guilt is eating him from inside. There’s a silence that feels heavy and maybe he can hang up and block the number, he’s not going back to Korea any time soon anyway and even if he does, he is going to make sure to not see Mari or anyone related to her.

“I’m calling you because even after all these years I still consider you my friend…”

No… Taehyung wants to say, don’t say that.

“I know we drifted apart but I wanted you to hear it from me.”

I was the worst friend to you. Taehyung feels a lump in his throat and he turns so Jimin doesn’t see how affected he is by this call.

“I’m getting married next month and I want you to be there.”

It feels like deja vu. It feels like gravity is pulling him down and he can’t move but at the same time he feels like the world around him is growing and he is shrinking, and he hopes he does until he disappears.

“Taehyung? Are you there?”

“Y-Yes…” he swallows the lump and blinks back the tears, “Congrats, Mari. You are going to make a beautiful bride.”

“Thank you! Will you come?”

“I don’t know…” He knows. “I’m working on this project and-”

“You have one month! Please try to come! My fiance will be so happy if you could make it.”

My fiance. Jungkook the fiance, sounds very fitting. He would’ve made a great fiance and an even better husband, Taehyung was always certain and now he will be able to prove his point. It just hurts so much that he won’t be the one to call him that, ever.

It’s just so much that he can handle and without being able to control them, the tears start to come down. “I-I’ll try… to make it.”

“Thank you!” Mari sounds happy and excited and who wouldn’t be when they are marrying Jeon Jungkook? Is Jungkook just as happy? “Taehyung… is something wrong?”

Taehyung wants to say it. He wants to tell her everything but what's the point? Doing it won’t make Jungkook come back, it won’t erase the pain he is feeling, and it won’t turn back time to the moment when he met Jungkook so he can stop himself from falling in love. This will only ruin everything, Mari’s happiness, and Jungkook’s too.

“Taehyung…”

“Nothing’s wrong.” Taehyung takes a deep breath so he can get his voice back because, after all this time, all he can think about is Jungkook. Even after all this time, it’s still affecting him as much as the last night they saw each other. “I’ll let you know if I can come, okay?”

The call ends and he can’t hold it anymore. He let the tears out and his sobs turn into hiccups as he covers his face, he feels Jimin’s hand on his back.

“Tae,” Jimin says. That’s all he can do, just be there for him and wait until his friend lets everything out. All this pain, all this guilt, all this regret and tears that had been inside him for years.

After a few minutes, Taehyung calms himself. The friends are sitting on a bench right outside the studio, already forgotten about the cold.

Jimin doesn’t say anything, he just waits for Taehyung to talk, although he knows he won’t. He knows that Jungkook is a topic that’s off-limits. Jimin knows their story and the pain his friend carries but he promised Taehyung they will never talk about it again and as soon as he saw Taehyung crying, he knew what the reason was.

They go back inside but they go to Taehyung’s office first, they need to hide the redness under his eyes.

“Mari is getting married,” Taehyung finally says.

Jimin freezes, and the brush in his hand stops moving, he knows what this means. “Tae…”

“I really hope he is happy.”

Jimin doesn’t respond.

“I’m such a bad friend, Jiminie. I’m a terrible friend.”

“Tae, don’t say that. You are the most amazing person I know.” Jimin continues covering Taehyung’s redness as he speaks. “Yes, you made mistakes but if you were a bad person you would’ve told Mari about everything when she called you. It was bad that you guys had a relationship behind Mari’s back but you know that their relationship was only because of business, because their parents arranged that to help their companies and you knew that Jungkook had a lot to lose if he didn’t agree. You know that they didn’t love each other.”

“Still, Jiminie… I still feel like shit but you know what’s worse? That I don’t regret it.” Taehyung makes Jimin stop and looks him in the eyes when he speaks, “If I could go back I would do it again,” Taehyung feels that heaviness in his chest again, “The only thing I regret is that I couldn’t change his mind. I couldn’t make him choose me.”

“I’m sorry, Tae. I’m really sorry.”

“I wish things were different. But I will never know… All these ‘what ifs’ will still be running in my head.”

Jimin hugs him, “You’ll be okay.” Taehyung smiles but he knows he won’t. He’s heard this so many times and after all these years, he is still not okay. “Do you want to postpone the shoot?”

“No,” Taehyung says. They stop hugging and he stands up, looking at himself in the mirror to make sure he doesn’t look like he was crying. “Let’s go,” Taehyung closes his blazer, he’s wearing his favorite suit, the emerald green suit.

“Also,” Jimin says before they leave the room, “That night… you were wearing the necklace with the white pearl.” Taehyung looks confused. “For the scene… the thing that’s missing is the necklace.”

“Jimin…”

“I know what that scene is based on and you got everything correct, at least from what you told me. You always had a gift with words. You can paint pictures with words. The only thing is that the models are not as handsome as you and Jungkook,” Jimin smiles and he hopes that his friend does too.

Taehyung does.

Back in the studio, everyone stands as they see Taehyung sitting on his chair. He gives them a hand signal so everyone can get in positions, he watches as the models get their hair and makeup checked out one more time. He smiles when he sees the model with the pearl necklace and yes, that was exactly what was missing and now, it doesn’t feel so off.

Taehyung looks at the screen and yes, everything looks good now. He looks up to see what the stylists are gathering their tools to leave the set so they can start rolling. He turns to see Jimin checking something on the monitor and they both smile when they look at each other. Jimin gives him a thumbs up.

Everything will be okay, Taehyung thinks. It has to be.

Before Taehyung screams “Action,” he looks around to make sure everyone is ready, and the world shakes.

Taehyung’s eyes don’t move. They can’t be wrong. He looks at the sunflowers, at the expensive clothes, the shoes, the dark hair, and the smile that looks like the sun itself. Jungkook is there.

Taehyung’s legs miraculously move and he stands. He is there, wearing the same suit, having the same feelings, the same sensations, the same love. He walks towards the sun, or at least that’s what it feels like cause he is burning, and just as he gets closer, his oxygen evaporates too.

“Hi, Sunshine.”

It can’t be.

They are close but Taehyung doesn’t dare touch him or come closer, although he wants to. He wants to do more than touch. He wants to throw himself at Jungkook, he wants to kiss him, he wants to say so much but he doesn’t.

Jungkook moves closer. He still has the sunflowers in one of his hands, the other moves slowly because he doesn’t know if it’s okay to do this, to touch Taehyung. It’s been almost two years since they last saw each other, he doesn’t know if he still has the right to touch him, or even be this close.

He can see the shock in Taehyung’s face but he continues. His hand reaches for his hair which is now blonde, “You really do look like sunshine now, Tae.”

Taehyung’s face crumbles, just like the rest of his world. “Why?” That is all Taehyung can whisper.

“Tae,” Jungkook stops touching him. “I finally found you.”

Everyone on the set is watching them and Taehyung notices, which can only mean that he is not hallucinating. This is really happening. Jungkook is really there.

“Finally?”

“Finally,” Jungkook smiles. “I didn’t know you left the country.”

“I had nothing left there,” Taehyung looks down, and it feels very familiar because he would always do this when talking to Jungkook. The guilt made him do this and the fear to see Jungkook’s eyes and find the truth in them. Now is not different. “My family… they supported my decision.”

“I’m glad they support you.”

“Why are you here?”

Jungkook pinches Taehyung’s chin, “Look at me.”

Taehyung does and he is proven that he will always love Jungkook and maybe he loves him more now than ever before.

“I came for you,” Jungkook continues. “It’s always been you, Tae.”

“But Mari… she’s getting married and you-”

“Mari and I broke up almost two years ago, Tae.”

“What?”

Jungkook takes Taehyung’s hand and puts the sunflowers on the table. “After our last night, I was devastated. That night, I made the biggest mistake. Ending things with you was the hardest thing I had to do. I thought… I thought that I could go on pretending but I couldn’t stop thinking about you. I couldn’t stop missing you. You were always on my mind, babe.”

“Jungkook…” Taehyung holds Jungkook’s hands too because now it doesn’t feel as difficult. He can see it in Jungkook’s eyes, now they don’t look sad. “There has not been a day when I don’t think about you.”

“I know,” Jungkook smiles. “I didn’t stop thinking about you either and that’s why I decided to tell Mari that it was over. I told her the truth and I thought that she was going to make sure that I regretted it all and that she was gonna make sure I suffered the consequences of my actions but she didn’t. She never loved me and she knew I never loved her, this was all business.”

“She-She knows… everything?”

“Yea,” Jungkook brings Taehyung’s hand to his lips and kisses it. “She’s not mad at you, Tae.”

It can’t be true but that would explain why she called him.

“We pretended to date a few more months after we talked until we could find a way to end this ridiculous arrangement and during this time I tried to find you to tell you that everything was okay but I couldn’t. I heard that you had left and I didn’t know where to begin searching but then Mari saw your father. She’s the one that told me where I could find you.”

Taehyung starts crying, and he doesn’t care that everyone is still there or that he is working but nothing matters, not when Jungkook is right in front of him.

“S-So…”

“So,” Jungkook cleans Taehyung’s tears. “I’m here to tell you that you were right. You always were. We are good, so good for each other, and I am willing to give up anything to have you back, coffee, juice, wine, anything, Sunshine.”

Taehyung smiles. He can finally come closer to the sun without feeling pain, without feeling like he can get hurt. He throws his arms around Jungkook’s neck and he kisses him. And this kiss feels both new and familiar at the same time but his lips seem to know how to kiss Jungkook the right way, they haven’t forgotten.
His brain hasn’t forgotten his skin, his warmth, his smell, not even the way his teeth pull on his lower lip. Nothing has changed. Not them, not the way they kiss, not the way they look, and definitely not the way they love each other.

“I love you, Sunshine,” Jungkook says after the kiss.

“I love you too, babe.”

These three words have meaning again. These three words can be said out loud now, without fear, without hesitation, and without guilt. Nothing has changed, not the weight of these words or the meaning behind them, they had only become more real and more strong, and that’s all they need to start building this love story.
