Izuku is finally able to come home to his family after a very long mission over seas. He plans to surprise all of them. Much fluff and tears follow.

Notes:

Edited 10/10/22. Fixed grammar and added some minor parts.

This is a romantic Aizawa Shouta/Midoriya Izuku fic. There is your warning. If you don't like that then don't read and don't leave hurtful comments.

On that note, In this fic Izuku is aged up and was never a student under Shouta. Izuku is 27 and Shouta is 28.

I don't think there are any triggers but if I'm wrong feel free to let me know so that I can update the tags!

Chapter 1: Surprise!

Chapter Text

Izuku is ready to go home. He has been ready to go home for a long time. It's days like today when he truly regrets taking on this job.

But at the time? It seemed like a good idea. The job had him sent over to America where he was helping other underground heroes take out an international drug ring. Once he was brought into the plans he saw that they had been planning this for years. He had been the one of the people that had stumbled across the Japan branches and was tracking it down. He was going to greet it like any other drug network until he received the stand down order from his boss.

That's when he got brought into the international network that had been working to try and dismantle it completely.

That's where Izuku comes in. And why it was vital that he was on the scene. He was sought after due to his quirk. His quirk was similar to Night-eyes but a bit stronger. He was able to see the future for anybody that he wanted to. Whenever he wanted to. He did have drawbacks of course. If he used it for too long he would get migraines and if he still pushed back that? He would be completely blind for 2 days afterwards. On top of the migraine. His quirk was kept under wraps though. Nezu had made sure of that when he found Izuku as a small boy.

When Izuku was little his mom had died at the hands of his father. That's how he first discovered his quirk. He had seen the vision of his dad murdering his mom and so he did what any other small kid would do.

He tried to tell the adults in his life. In the end it didn't work. Nobody believed him. (Not until later when he had quirk counseling) Due to the nature of his quirk, he wouldn't be allowed to go into normal foster care. There was too great of a risk according to the Hero Commission.

That's when Nezu took him in. And things were a lot better. So much better in fact that he was able to go to UA high school (a year early at that!) and met the amazing people that he calls his friends. And more importantly, the man that he calls his husband.

Now see, when Aizawa Shouta first stepped foot into the hero classroom as a transfer, he had stated that he didn't want any friends and tried to keep to himself.

That worked up until it didn't. Izuku, Hizashi and Oboro were already friends. (They were also friends with Nemuri but she was in the class ahead of theirs) They got along like a house on fire. Izuku loved them dearly and had spent most of his time outside of school training with them. And when they weren't training, they would be sneaking around the school trying to scare the teachers. (With Nezu's permission of course) So they recognized the look he got when he looked over at the new kid. Hizashi and Oboro teased him about Shouta relentlessly. Egging him on to just go talk! What's the worst that will happen?

So one day he (accidentally) found Aizawa on the rooftop eating lunch and decided to just go and say hi.

And that was the start of everything. He was quick to bring Aizawa into his group of friends and to his relief, they all got along. They quickly became the rooftop gang as their teachers would call them cause they would constantly be hanging out up there.

Soon, they became inseparable to the point where all four of them wanted to start an agency together. They had a really close call their third year. They had almost lost Oboro. He was trapped under the rubble of a falling building and had a pretty nasty gash on his forehead and nose. They are both permanent now but he still rocks the look anyways.

Ironically enough that was also the catalyst for a lot of different events. The first of which being Hizashi confessing to Oboro. The blonde hero was in tears and rambling about how he couldn't stand it if he never had the chance to tell the other boy how he felt and was only shut up when Oboro kissed him speechless.

It was also what led to Shouta confessing to Izuku. He had seen just how quickly things could turn and decided that he couldn't and didn't want to wait any long. Naturally Izuku took a page from Oboro’s book and just kissed him senseless.

The four of them tried to hide their respective relationships from Nemuri because they didn't want her to feel left out or like she wasn't important. She found out anyway and stated that she was also in a new relationship with another hero in training that she had met while on internships. Her name was Emi Fukukado. They all met up on one of their soon to be many triple dates.

When they all graduated they put their plans into action. They built their agency from the ground up and now they have one of the most successful underground hero agencies in Japan. NightVeil.

The walk down memory lane was brought to a halt when the lead hero on the case walked over and dropped a file onto his desk. He stared curiously at the file and then up at the hero.

In lieu of saying anything the older man just motioned for Izuku to open the file.

'Please don't let this be another extension '  he had already been away from his family for 9 months longer than he was supposed to. He was only supposed to be gone for 3 months but plans kept changing. While his family understood that he was needed here, it was still a very long time to be on the other side of the world from the people that you love the most.

He flipped open the file and saw there was only one piece of paper. Upon closer inspection he saw that it was a plane ticket...

To Tokyo Japan!

He breathed in and could feel the pinprick of tears starting in the back of his eyes. He tried to say something but was gently cut off.

"We got every last one of them. We just wrapped up earlier when you were sleeping. Thanks to you, we can all take some time off and go home. You did great kid. And don't take this the wrong way but I'm sick of looking at your face. Go home to your son and your husband." A huge smile spread across Izuku's face as he kept up and gave the older man a hug. He got an awkward pat on the back in return. Izuku stayed long enough to give the older hero his personal Japanese number Incase they ever needed him again.  He clutched the ticket in his hands as he shouted his thanks and sprinted to go pack his bags.

When he got through the security lines at the airport and made it to his gate he called his dad to tell him the good news.

The phone rang all of 4 times before he heard his dad chirp out,

"Izuku!"

"Dad guess what!!" He felt mildly bad about cutting his dad off but damn it he was too excited!

"What is it pup? You sound excited."

"I'm coming home!" He could hardly contain his squeal at saying the words. He also dutifully ignored the people that were giving him funny looks.

"Wait really?" The awe that deeper into his dad's voice told him more than his words could have. Nezu really wanted his pup home but was being cautious about it.

"Yeah! I'm actually at the airport right now and just waiting to board my flight! I should be home in about 18 hours with the layovers." He gushed excitedly. He had found a spot that was close enough to the gate so he could still see it but also far enough away to where he could talk without disrupting the surrounding people.

"Great! Well I already have your ticket upgraded cause they had you in economy, now pup. Have you told Shouta-kun and Hitoshi-kun that you're on your way back?"

Izuku didn't even realize that he was in economy seating. Not that he minded of course! He was just happy to be going home. But hearing his dad taking care of small things like that warmed his heart and made him want to get home faster. Holy Time he missed his family.

"No I haven't and that's where I want your help."

"I'm listening."

The plan that Izuku explained was simple but doable. His dad had agreed readily to it and was setting everything up on his side. The urge to text his husband was strong. But he mustered up every last bit of self control to just look at the pictures that he had on his phone.

Shouta was smart. So he would know that Izuku was on his way home if he texted the man now. He hadn't been able to get in contact with anybody since the start of this mission. It was top secret and he was only really able to text them about the extension because they didn't want to be on the bad side of Nezu.

He was finally called to start boarding the plane. He settled into his seat and started listening to the song that was played at not only his, but at the other couples' weddings. It was the song that they had chosen to do their first dance to. He felt himself slip into sleep with a small smile on his face. Knowing that when he woke up he would be closer to home.

He landed in Tokyo and was crying. The feeling of finally being able to return home was almost overwhelming. But when his dad came out and rushed over to him? That’s when he dropped his bags and knelt down to hug the stoat. He stood back up and positioned Nezu on his shoulder and let him direct Izuku to where the car would be waiting to take them back to UA.

Once they were back the took all the secret passages towards Nezu’s office so that there wouldn't be a chance that Izuku would be seen until the time was right.

Izuku settled into the well worn couch that sat in his dad's office and allowed himself the time to just sit and appreciate the quiet presence that his dad offered. Along with the tea that he had missed so much. The tea in America just wasn't the same and was oftentimes too sweet for his liking. He made sure to mention as much to Nezu who just laughed.

“Well, now that your here do you want to get started on you're plans?”

“Yea, I can't wait to see their faces when they see me.” He smiles at his dad before heading out to Gym Gamma. It was close enough that it wouldn't take long to get to but it was also enough out of the way that there was a very low chance that somebody would interrupt them. As soon as he steps into the gym he hears Nezu over the school intercoms.

“Shinsou Hitoshi report to the principal's office please.” And the message is repeated a second time just in case. Izuku makes himself comfortable as he waits for his son to show up. Hardly able to sit still.

“Shinsou Hitoshi report to the principal's office please.” Hitoshi was just sitting in class when the announcement rang over the intercom. He was confused though, He didn't think that he had done anything wrong and if it was a family matter wouldn't he also called dad into the office as well.

He flits his gaze over to his dad who is trying really hard to make it look like he's not concerned but to Hitoshi’s trained gaze he fails. He must have been thinking the same thing. When Shouta raises his eyebrows in question, Hitoshi shakes his head imperceptibly. At this point the class is a mixture of ‘ooooh!’ and ‘you must really be in trouble if Aizawa-sensei doesn't even know why you're being called down!”. He's also sure that Iida is also somewhere in the mix saying something about how heroes should not get in trouble but he tunes it out.

He starts to pack up his stuff since he doesn't know how long this will take and sends one last look over to his dad. He just nods and Hitoshi takes his leave out of the classroom.

He got to his granddad’s office not too long later and saw that he was just sitting behind his desk enjoying a cup of tea. But with Nezu that could really mean anything.

He gently closes the door behind him and walks over to the couch that Izuku had been sitting on just moments prior.

“Hey Pops. You called me down here?” He eyes the stoat carefully to see if there are any hints about what this is concerning.

“That I did. There is something waiting for you in Gym Gamma. You have been excused for the rest of the day to deal with it.” Hitoshi just stares at his grandfather in shock. What could be so important that he has been excused from all of his classes? He can feel a small spike in his anxiety at the unknown but Nezu is quick to reassure him.

“Hitoshi, it is a good surprise. I’m not at liberty to explain what it is, but I do know that you will need the rest of the day. So instead of sitting here thinking about it, just head over there okay? Everything will be okay.” At some point when he was speaking Nezu had made his way over to Hitoshi’s side of the desk and was patting his arm. He made the motions to grab his school bag and Nezu gently took it from his grasp.

“You won't need it. Now go on, Pup.”

Still slightly shocked, Hitoshi just agrees and heads over to Gym Gamma.

He wasn't sure what he was expecting cause it could be anything. A small traitorous part of him kinda wished that it was his Papa coming back from overseas but was quick to dash that particular hope. While he knows that at least Izuku is still alive, they weren't allowed to know much else. They weren't even allowed to know what part of the country he was in so that they could keep an eye on the news. He also knows that his dad was taking it a lot harder than he let anybody else know. This was the first time that they had been separated for this long. He could see the light of hope in his dad’s eye grow fainter with each passing day. He wanted nothing more than to just brainwash the people in charge to let his papa come home.

“Haha, I see that you got the muttering habit that I did, little shadow.”  Hitoshi stops in his tracks at the voice. At first he didn't recognize it and so he was on the defensive. How could he not be with how often their class was getting into villain encounters?

But then he looks in the direction at which the voice came from and all other thoughts left his head. A wide smile was spreading over his face and tears were threatening to fall. He doesn't pay any attention to that thought. He is too busy running towards his Papa ( He’s finally home! Papa is home! He’s actually here!) He tackles the man in a hug and the training that Izuku has done over the years is the only reason they managed to stay upright. Izuku’s arms go around Hitoshi and the younger boy is quick to wrap every limb he possibly can around the man. Not wanting to have even the slightest chance of him going away again.

“You and me both, little shadow. I won't be going anywhere anytime soon. I can promise you that.” And to reinforce that promise he tightens his arms around his son. Hitoshi just barely manages to keep the lid on the tears at hearing the childhood nickname that he had gotten from following the adults around. Much like a shadow. He justified it with training to be an underground hero like his parents. The all laughed but the nickname stuck. Even now. The fact that he took after his dad and dressed in mainly black when not in school didn't help either. At first he didn't like it but now? It was like the sweet cooling balm on a blistering burn.

The kiss that he felt placed on his forehead was something that he didn't even realize that he had missed as he did.

“I'm so happy that you're back...have you told dad yet?”

The chuckle from his papa is warm and light.

“Not yet. little shadow. I wanted to surprise him after you. Cause you and I both know that he will be clingy afterwards,”

“Yea, you're right on that one.” He leans his head down onto his shoulder and just basks in the moment. It still seems surreal that his Papa is truly back.  And if this is a dream, he doesn't want to wake up.

“Speaking of which, how is Shouta?” Papa breaks the silence. Hitoshi can feel his legs cramping even though his Papa is the one holding on to most of his weight.  He wiggles just enough to let the man know that he wants to be back on his own feet.

Once back on the ground he starts to explain how his dad is.

To Izuku's credit Hitoshi is a lot more observant than either he or Shouta gave him credit for. It saddened him that his husband wasn't doing well but figured that soon enough he would be able to fix it.

“Thanks, Hito. Now Can you do me a favor?”

The smirk that crossed his son’s face was almost the perfect mixture of his and Shouta’s. That small little fact made him smile.

“You want me to go to Pops and have him call dad over here the same way that he did to me huh?”

Izuku reaches out to ruffle his little shadow’s fluffy purple hair. “You got that right.”

“Alright, I’ll do it, but I'm not going to be here when he gets here. Pops said that I've been excused from classes for the rest of the day so once you two have your reunion I'll see you back at the house. Cause I'm guessing that he will also be excused from classes as well.” His little Shadow gives him one last hug and starts to walk back to the main campus.

Now he just has to wait for his husband to come to him.

“Aizawa Shouta. Please come to my office.” Principles Nezu’s voice again rings over the intercom systems. It was already weird that he had called for Hitoshi but now him? Was something wrong that he didn't know about? His mind immediately goes to Izuku. Logically it's the only thing that it could be.

Did something happen to Izuku?

Please don't let anything happen to him. Shouta could realize that he wasn't doing so well since his love had gone on that mission in America. He knew that Izuku was needed over there due to the nature of his quirk but that didn't make the non existent communication any easier. It made it all the harder. He was often so worried about getting that damned sorry letter with compensation money in it, it made it hard to eat anything but those jelly pouches. And there were still sometimes that those didn't want to settle in his stomach either.

He of course made the effort to try for the sake of their son. He didn't want to set a bad example and he also didn't want to freak Hitoshi out either. That didn't stop the super bad days from coming though. On those days he would end up in Nezu’s office just trying to calm down and take comfort in Izuku's dad being there. The past year had been hard on all of them.

Shaking his head to clear the intrusive thoughts out of his head. He looked to the rest of the class that all had worried looks in their eyes.

“Iida, Yaoyorozu. You two are in charge until either Midnight, Mic or LoudCloud can get here. Independent study until then.”

He made his way towards Nezu’s office and if anybody said that he was full on sprinting then they were lying liars that lied. He was clearly just doing an urgent jog to make sure that nothing was wrong. Nothing else.

Unknown to him, but much like his son had done, he made a beeline for the couch that sat in front of Nezu’s desk.

Without saying anything he just raised his eyebrows at the stoat and waited.

“I need your help in Gym Gamma. Hitoshi should also be there but you are now needed too.”

“What is this about Nezu?” Shouta finally asks the question. Nezu should know that Shouta doesn't like to play games like this. He would rather just know what is going on so that he can deal with it.

“I’m not at liberty to say, Shouta-kun. You just need to make your way over there. You’ll understand.” A seedling of anxiety that he had been trying to not pay attention to was now full grown. This could only be about Izuku. And if it was then it could only be that they were coming to tell him that he lost his husband....

He wasn’t even able to say goodbye...

The last time that he saw his husband weighed on his mind the entire time he was walking over to the designated gym. At least he had kissed and told the man that he loved him before he left. Tears were threatening to fall but he wouldn't allow it. He would only believe that his husband was gone when he heard it with his own ears.

When he was most of the way to the gym he saw his son. With one look he was able to tell that he had been crying and that made his heart constrict even more. He tried to push the thoughts away.

“Hito..?” He called out cautiously. He stopped in front of his son and brought his hands up to wipe the tears away from the boy's eyes.

“Oh hey dad. I’m guessing that you got the message from Nezu?”

“Well he told me to go to Gym Gamma... He wouldn't tell me why though.” he admitted.

“Yea he didn't tell me either and I’m kinda glad he didn't. It was better to find out this way. Even if it does suck at first.” That did not help the feelings of anxiety and anticipation at all. It really made it sound like Izuku was truly gone...

Before his spiraling thoughts could get too out of control Hitoshi just nudged him in the direction of the gym.

“Gone on. You’ll feel better once you have answers to all those questions in your head. I’m heading back to the house. Nezu said I could take the rest of the day off after this. And he said that you would probably need it too. So, I'll see you both back here when you finish up. But take your time dad. There's no rush.”

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.... Was what happened really so bad that Nezu thought that Shouta wouldn't be able to handle teaching after it? Fuck that did mean that Izuku died hadn't it? And with the way that Hitoshi is talking that is the only logical conclusion that he can make. He hesitated outside the door for the gym . He knew that he had to go on and face whatever music might be on the other side but...

He just couldn't bring himself to do it. He would almost just rather live in the ignorant bliss that he had right now. At least this way, he can pretend that Izuku might be coming back at some point.

He took a steading breath and pushed the door open. Not for himself, but for his son. He needed to be strong for himself and Hitoshi. Because if they had truly just lost Izuku he needed to be there to pick up the pieces and they needed to heal together. He would not allow his son to be by himself while they mourned his other father.

He was brought out of his head by the sound of somebody calling his name.

He looked up and directly into the moss green eyes that he had fallen in love with. He almost couldn't believe it and activated his quirk on instinct.

But when Izuku still sat there smiling up at him, tears lining the brims of his eyes, his own tears spilled over.

“Bunny...” The whisper of the affectionate nickname that he thought he was never going to be able to use again..

“Kitten...My sweet loving Kitten...” His heart swelled at hearing his own nickname the man gave him when they were still in high school. He reached out to Izuku. Hardly believing that he was really right here in front of him. He reached out to cup his hands around Izuku's jaw but stopped when he was only a few centimeters away. He was hesitant, like his touch would somehow make Izuku disappear again.

Izuku, the ever loving and attentive person he is, noticed this and instead leaned his head into Shouta’s touch. He also stood up on his tiptoes to touch their foreheads together. Izuku's hands had come up and were now resting on his chest. Right over where his heart was beating.

“You’re really here...” The sound of wonder laced his voice and that in combination with the sadness he had drug himself into moments ago made it hard to talk.

“I am, Kitten. I’m right here. I’m safe. And more importantly, I’m home.” Not needing any other words, Shouta leaned down and pressed his lips onto Izuku’s. The kiss was sweet and Izuku leaned in gratefully. Shouta reveled in how his husband's hands traveled up his chest and over his shoulder to rest in his hair. Pulling him closer.

Shouta’s hands left their position on Izuku's face and traveled down his body. They finally ended up on his hips and used that to pull Izuku closer, not caring that they were still in a school gym where anybody could walk in at any time.

Shouta teased his husband into a more risqué kiss where their tongues were fighting for dominance. Now normally Shouta would pull out all the stops and have Izuku submit (willing) to him but this time? He was content to let Izuku win. He was just happy to finally have his husband back in his arms.

Without breaking the kiss, Shouta lowered his hands a little more until they were on the backs of Izuku's thighs and easily lifted the smaller man up into his arms.  Thankfully Izuku knew this game well and wrapped his legs around Shouta's hips. Shouta didn't even notice that he was walking until Izuku’s back hit the gym wall and they finally broke their kiss. They both looked at each other and smiled. Shouta took his time looking over his husband now in his arms and thoroughly kissed. The sight in front of him is incredibly...

“Beautiful..” Izuku blushed at the comment and tried to hide his face but Shouta stopped him with a small nudge.

“No, you've been gone for so long. I want to admire you.”

Izuku let out a breathless giggle,

“Yea, it has been a while hasn’t it?”

Shouta ducked his head to place open mouth kisses on the other man's throat and didn't miss the way he tightened his legs or the small gasp that was let out.

“Too long if you ask me...” he nipped at the sensitive skin on the other's neck.

“I thought you said that you wanted to admire me. Shou?”

“ I can think of many ways to admire you. If you want...” He bit down a little harder to prove his point and also make his other intentions clear. He felt the full body shudder that ran through Izuku and wanted more of that. Being separated for a year had both of them yearning for each other's touch. Shouta couldn't help himself as he rolled his hips up and felt that same shudder again. The low whine that left Izuku was like music to his ears that he would never get tired of.

“Shou, if you wanna admire me like that then I ask that we go home first...”

Shouta pulled away to study his husband once more. The lust, longing and love that he found in the deep moss green eyes that met his, made his jumpsuit feel tight and the urge to get home much more pressing. Already thinking of the ways that he could show his husband exactly how much he missed him.  Starting with kissing him senseless and hopefully ending with their dry spell being broken.

“I will gladly take you home and admire you.” Leaning back in to kiss his husband once more.
