Royal Mistakes

Summary:

Turning 21 was a big deal for anyone, but no one had more attention for their birthday than Sawamura Daichi, the eldest son of the Sawamura royal family. The media has been keeping a close eye on him, too close in many people’s opinions. Daichi’s friends know that none of the tabloid articles are true, no matter how much they wish to be the one Daichi was dating, but their group knew how much the articles bothered the man himself. These stories and rumors continued to spread and just as Daichi is about to turn 21, one goes a bit too far.

Or: Everyone has a crush on Daichi and the media sucks ass

Work Text:

Prince Daichi is Almost 21!!!

By: Jaclyn Ascelina

Our lovely Prince Daichi is soon turning 21, so all that anyone can think about is the prince’s romantic life. It has been a tradition that for the last 7 generations of the Sawamura family, the eldest prince will propose near his 21st birthday. Of course, this does not mean that Prince Daichi will, but it has been in the back of our minds. So comment what you think in the replies below.

~

Daichi was tired. His 21st birthday was in 3 months and the only thing the media seemed to want to focus on was his love life. Why couldn’t they focus on actual things happening in the world?

His focus was directed back to the zoom call he was on with his friends. They have been so chill and understanding of how uncomfortable it was to be the center of, what seemed to be, everyone’s attention.

“I mean like, what's so interesting about the lives of royalty? You guys aren’t nothing special,” Oikawa says, rolling his eyes at another article.

“Says you ‘Mister Son of Celebrities’.” Kuroo retorts. “Bokuto and I don’t come from crazy-ass families.”

Kita, who had been rummaging underneath his desk,  then pops back onto the screen. “You can’t say much, Kuroo. You did win a very rare scholarship that gave you a full ride. That is pretty special.”

Bokuto chimes in with, “Yeah, bro! That's like super rad.”

“I get it though Oikawa, I honestly don’t get it either. I feel like my life is pretty boring.” Daichi loved his family, but all the drama that came with it was annoying.

“Pretty, but not boring,” jokes Bokuto. Daichi can't help the laugh that bursts out of his chest. He can't hear his friends over his loud laugh, but he's sure they are laughing as well.

Once he catches his breath, Daichi finally realizes the saying ‘laughing so hard you have to pee’ holds some truth. “Hey guys, I’ll be right back, I just gotta run to the bathroom.”

“Yeah, no problem.” Oikawa waits until Daichi has left the room to let out a loud groan along with the rest of his friends. Oikawa can faintly hear someone banging their head against their desk.

“Why is he so goddamn pretty! It's not fucking fair that I get to hear his laugh,” Bokuto complains loudly. He rubs his hands down his face and Kita nods along with him.

Ushijima pips in with “You should be grateful you get to hear his laugh.”

Bokuto sighs as he rests his chin in his hands. “You're right, but still.”

“We know, Bokuto. He's gorgeous and we are all down bad.” Kuroo grumbled as he lifted his head off his desk.

Ushijima nods. “Down horrendously.”

Oikawa knew that all of them had been harboring crushes on Dai forever. Not because he is royalty and has money and fame, but for his wit and humor, and according to Bokuto, his thighs. (He is not wrong though).

Oikawa sees Kuroo open his mouth to say something, but just then they all hear the bedroom door open. Kuroo’s mouth snaps shut and there is panic in his eyes. Oikawa rolls his own before speaking. “Wow, Kuroo, that sounds like an awful chemical reaction. Do you think the acid burns would be enough to dissolve a body?” Kuroo looks confused for a second, but he quickly catches on.

“I don’t know Oikawa, wanna test it out?” He replies with a smirk. The next thing they know, Daichi is back at his computer screen looking horrified.

“Can you guys please not murder someone? Especially now that we would be considered alibis?” Daichi pleads and the sound of laughter is heard in the background.

Bokuto lights up at the sound of the new voice. “Suga!”

Suga pops onto the screen, his silver hair flopping to the side. “Hey, guys! I’d love to help out with the murder. The estate has plenty of empty rooms that just have like one painting in them. No carpet or rug to clean.”

A distraught ‘Suga’ is barely heard over the loud cackles coming from all of Daichi’s friends. They all loved his manager, the missing piece of their little group. While Suga did have his job requirements, mostly to keep Daichi safe and on schedule, it was not uncommon to see him creating chaos with Bokuto and Kuroo or gossiping about everyone with Oikawa. Time flew as the group chatted and before any of them knew it, it was 3 in the morning, and they all had things to do tomorrow. They said their goodbyes and headed off to bed.

“Hey, you ready?” Kita asked when Daichi opened the door. The two of them were going to go hang out at the nearby bookstore to try and find a series that Kita had been searching for.

Daichi nodded and the two of them were off. They decided to walk to the bookstore as it wasn’t too far away. As they walked, the two of them talked about everything that had been going on recently, including their expectations of Daichi now that he was almost 21.

While they continued to walk, they heard a yell come from behind.

“Watch out!”

Daichi reacted first by swiveling his head towards the noise. He spotted a guy sprinting after his dog that was currently running full speed towards Kita. Daichi reached out and grabbed Kita by the waist and pulled him close. The dog ran right passed them being followed close behind by its owner.

Kita and Daichi took a moment to catch their breath as their adrenaline went down. A moment later, the two of them started laughing. Daichi’s grip loosened on Kita’s waist as he fell to the ground in his laughter. Kita attempted to stop the giggles that were coming out of his mouth, but failed, and joined Daichi on the sidewalk.

They stayed like that together for a couple more minutes until Kita saw the time and realized that the bookstore would be closed soon and that they needed to get going.

Daichi’s Boyfriend?

By: PB&J Man

One of our reporters saw Prince Sawamura’s possible lover today while they were on a walk. The whole situation started when Sawamura Daichi and another man, who we believe to be Kita Shinsuke, the son of a billionaire, were walking together on the sidewalk. A dog that had gotten out of its owner’s hold then proceed to sprint towards the couple. Prince Daichi was the first to realize what was happening and respond quickly by grabbing the other man’s waist and pulling him close.

The dog ran right past them, but Prince Daichi didn’t let go of the other man for a while. Once they separated, they both fell to the ground together and laughed for a while. Our reporter made sure to snap a picture of them when they were held together and when they were laughing on the ground together. Could this possibly be Prince Daichi’s lover?

After the first article about Daichi’s supposed boyfriend, more articles came out. The articles all included Daichi and one of his friends. The titles were all very clickbait-y, but they got the job done. People were speculating much more than before and some were rummaging photos up from nowhere of Daichi with his friends. Titles like “Oikawa and Sawamura Caught Dancing in the Park?” or “Political Marriage between the Ushijima’s and the Sawamura’s?”. Most articles just insulted his friends, saying that they were not good enough to be his lover, and many of them were targeted at Bokuto once someone realized that his family worked at the local conbini.

Bokuto slumped further in his chair as he continued to scroll through his phone. “Reporters are mean…”

“And that's why we don’t read them.” Oikawa plucked the phone out of his hand and walked off to put it in the kitchen. Bokuto sighed, the articles were hurtful to everyone, but Bokuto was a target that the media could not let go of.

Oikawa checked Bokuto’s phone when a new notification popped up. It was a tabloid article regarding Daichi, which wasn’t at all surprising, but what was surprising was the title.

Prince Daichi’s Boyfriend Confirmed?

By: Kevin the GOAT

Earlier today, Prince Daichi was spotted having lunch with what many assumed to be a friend. They were almost done with their meal when a fan caught Daichi leaning forward toward this ‘friend’. This fan then snapped a photo confirming something everyone has been wondering about for the past few weeks.

The image above was the one taken by the fan as it clearly shows Prince Daichi leaning in for a kiss with this mystery man. While it is only speculation that this interaction was a kiss, it is highly unlikely it could be anything else due to how close their bodies and faces were to each other.

Does this photo conclude the search for Daichi’s romantic partner? I hope we find out soon.

Oikawa was shocked. There was no way. He knew the ‘mysterious man’ in the image who was blocked by Daichi's frame. How could he not know by the god-awful bedhead hairstyle? “Fuck.”

~

“Kuroo, how could you do this to us!” Kuroo jumped as he heard his bedroom door slam open. He turned around as Oikawa, Bokuto, Kita, and Ushijima walked in.

“What are you guys talking about?” Kuroo asked, trying to search his friends’ faces for some answers.

Oikawa huffed and crossed his arms. “Don’t act like you don’t know, mister.”

“Bro, I thought we had a deal. No big moves on Dai,” Bokuto whined. “I thought we were bros, not hoes who keep secrets.”

“It’s surprising you were even able to keep this a secret. I thought you would be shoving it in our faces.” Kita shrugs as Bokuto nods furiously.

“Maybe not shoving it in our faces, but at least puffing his chest out a little more. Like a male bird trying to show off,” Ushijima suggested, nodding at his idea.

Bokuto snapped his fingers, “You’re right, Ushi! Or a peacock, with all of their fancy feathers showing off.” The two of them nodded in agreement.

“Guys,” Kita interrupts,” I don’t think Kuroo knows what we're talking about. Look at him.”

And Kuroo watched as 8 eyes stared at his confused and highly concerned face. Kuroo looked between all the eyes staring at him, each one scrutinizing everything about him from his face to his body posture. It was Oikawa, because of course it was him, who realized the truth first.

Oikawa rubbed his temple, “Shit. You have no idea what's going on, do you?”

“No! And how dare you guys compare me to a bird.” Accused Kuroo who flipped them all off in faux anger.

Kita sighed and handed over his phone. “Read it.” So, Kuroo did. It took him close to two minutes to finish the whole thing and he handed back the phone.

He stared up at his friend, disbelief in his eyes. “No fucking way.”

“Yes, way dude. Now are you and Daichi dating or not?” questions Bokuto, knowing he could tell when his best bro was lying.

“Of course not!”

“It sure looks like you guys are,” Oikawa muttered under his breath.

“We aren’t dating. He and I went out to lunch together to celebrate our passing chem scores and that picture was taken when he was getting an eyelash off my cheek.”

Oikawa sighs a breath of relief. “Thank god.”

“Oh hush, Kawa.” Bokuto snapped lightheartedly. “No but seriously, I was freaked out when I saw that article.”

“Me too.” Kita agreed. “I’m glad you’ve got such recognizable hair, it made it easy to figure out who it was.”

“Thanks?” Kuroo just took the odd compliment without much question. He did not want to get into another argument about how he styled his hair.

“Have any of you read the comments on the article yet?” Oikawa asked. As the words got out into the open, everyone’s eyes widened knowing that while the media was bad, ‘fans’ were worse.

Ushijima unlocked his phone and pulled open the article again. He hesitated before scrolling down to the comments. “I do not have a good feeling about this.”

    @ushidai4lyfe: WTF IS THIS

@buffdai: wait who even is that guy? How the hell has he got THE PRINCES attention

    @princesdream: he's kinda cute ngl

@sawabiteme: NOOOOO MY DREAMS OF HAVING PRINCE DAICHI AS MY HUSBAND IS RUINED

@karywimblyton: my 13-year-old daughter is upset that prince Daichi is with someone else. She has always dreamed of marrying him one day and becoming a princess

“Shit…”

Before anyone could keep reading, Kuroo’s bedroom door slammed open once again. This time, instead of being yelled at, all Kuroo could hear was sobbing. All of them quickly turned around and came face first to a crying Daichi. His breathing was loud and uneven and Kuroo could tell he was having a panic attack.

Everyone quickly rushed over to him and Daichi collapsed into the nearest body, which was Ushijima. He tucked his face into Ushijima’s neck and continued to cry. The new human tissue looked at his other friends worried and confused, not knowing what to do.

“Shh, shh. Daichi it's okay. What's going on?” Placing his hand on Daichi’s back, he tried to console the sobbing man.

It took a few minutes of his friends awkwardly standing around him before Daichi caught his breath.

Kita pulled slightly on Daichi’s shoulders to get him to sit down before asking, “Do you want to tell us what is going on?”

Daichi nodded before taking a few deep breaths. “Suga won’t talk to me anymore.”

“Why won’t he talk to you? Did you do something?” Ushijima asked, very lost as to what was going on.

“That tabloid…”

“The one from this morning?” Kita questioned, opening his phone to look at it again.

Bokuto rubbed his back as he said, “Dude we know it's fake, Kuroo told us already.”

“No. Suga… he… he won’t listen to me saying it's a lie.” Daichi gasped out. His breathing wasn’t going back to normal yet.

“Why does that-”

“We’re dating!” Daichi interrupted. “He thinks I’m cheating on him.”

Silence permeated the room. Everyone was sure they could hear a goat ‘baa’ in the distance.

“Huh,” all eyes darted to Ushijima as he spoke first, “that makes a lot more sense.”

Oikawa sighed dramatically and leaned against Bokuto’s side. “Looks like we never had a chance from the start.” Bokuto nodded and awkwardly patted Oikawa on the arm.

“What?” Daichi started to question before he was cut off.

Oikawa perked up and exclaimed, “Let's go save your relationship!” and quickly ran to drag Daichi onto Kuroo’s bed.

~

Daichi had never been so nervous in his life. His friends had helped him plan out how to explain everything to Koushi, but that didn’t quell the rhinos stomping around in his stomach. The plan started with Oikawa inviting koushi out to gossip at their local park (which Koushi easily agreed to) and then when Koushi shows up and can’t find Oikawa, Daichi will go up to him and confess his love for him underneath the gazebo surrounded by sakura trees in full bloom. Easy right?

No. No way. Daichi had no idea how he thought he could do this. Not only was his mind running 10 miles per second, but it also seemed like his heart was too. His beating heart caused him to sweat, and he couldn’t sweat right now! He was supposed to look perfect for this romantic confession.

“Hey man… You good?” Bokuto asked, not sure how to help.

Daichi tried to respond, but it seemed like his brain and heart were taking up all the energy in his body. Thankfully, Kita appeared out of thin air with a bag. He silently started unpacking it as Daichi and Bokuto both watched. Kita pulled out a liter bottle of water, a pork bun, and a massive pack of face oil absorbents.

“Here. Use all of them. This should help calm your heart and make you look less greasy.” Kita said dumping all the products into Daichi’s lap.

Daichi let out a big sigh and uncapped the water bottle, “Thank you, Kita.” Daichi took a couple of gulps of water before sighing.

He was starting to feel better, but once Kuroo came running toward him, the butterflies in his stomach started up again. “Okay, we are all good to go! Are you ready Daich?”

“Yeah, I guess.”

“You got this dude! Ushijima is blocking the pubic from coming out to disturb you guys.” Bokuto slapped Daichi on the back hard enough to steal the air out of his lung.

“Everything will be fine, Daichi. Don’t worry, Suga loves you. He will understand” Kita reassured.

“Thanks, guys.”

Daichi got up from where he was sitting and followed the path to the gazebo, admiring the falling petals from the sakura petals. It made the whole scene seems very romantic, he hoped Suga thought the same.

As he approached the gazebo, he could see Koushi standing there, staring at his phone with a frown on his face. He was probably wondering where Oikawa was and why he was standing up. Daichi slowly walked toward his boyfriend and gulped nervously. He could do this.

“Koushi?” As soon as Daichi spoke, Koushi spun around with wide eyes.

“Daichi? What-” Koushi’s eyes scanned Daichi’s face to see any hints as to why he was there. They stood in silence for a moment, neither wanting to break the tense silence.

“I, um, I wanted to talk to you,” Daichi said as he rubbed the back of his neck in a nervous habit.

Koushi sighed and shook his head, “Dai, I don’t want to hear it.”

“No! Please, just hear me out.” He was scared. Daichi knew he could lose Koushi at any moment, but he never thought it would go like this.

Rolling his eyes, Koushi asks, “What would I even get out of standing here listening to how you are having an affair?”

“Koushi! I would never have cheated on you,” Daichi was taken aback. He knew the tabloids were bothering Koushi, but not to the point that he believed them.

Koushi rolled his eyes and crossed his arms in a protective stance.“Oh, really?”

“Of course! Koushi, I have been in love with you since we were 12 years old. I could never want or love anyone else. Ever. That picture of me and Kuroo? The angle was what made it look like we were kissing. I was getting an eyelash off his cheek! And I promise it wasn't in a romantic way, but in the way that he kept missing it and it was so frustrating! He missed like 5 times, I didn't even know that was possible.” Daichi was desperate. His love for Koushi ran so deep, if he lost him because of something like this… “Koushi, I do not even think I am capable of loving anyone other than you. So please, don’t leave me.”

“Dai… I thought, I thought you were embarrassed by me because I was your manager and not some wealthy, popular dude.” Koushi’s bottom lip started to tremble so he bit it to calm himself, but Daichi could tell tears were welling in his eyes. “ I can’t sweep you off your feet with luxury presents or expensive jewelry. I’m just me. And… and I thought I would never be enough for you.”

“Oh, Kou… you’ve been the only one for me since you were put with me when we were 10. You couldn’t even get rid of me if you tried.” Daichi hesitated. “I… I wanted to do this later, but I think right now is perfect.” Daichi got down on one knee and held Koushi’s hands gently in his. “While, I don’t have the ring on me yet, I want to ask you something. Once I am 21, will you, Sugawara Koushi, marry me?”

Koushi’s eyes were full of tears, most of which had already fallen down his cheeks. He nodded over and over again, not wanting his voice to crack and ruin the moment. Daichi stood back up with a soft smile on his face and cupped Koushi’s face with his hands, wiping the tears that were still on his face. Koushi nuzzled closer to the hands holding his face.

“I love you, Sugawara Koushi.”

Koushi leaned in and Daichi met him halfway for a passionate kiss. Neither of them could stop smiling during it. Koushi pulled away first with a wobbly smile and tears still falling down his soft cheeks.

“I love you too, Prince Sawamura Daichi.”

PRINCE DAICHI IS ENGAGED

Rin Seriida

The most anticipated relationship of the century has finally come to a close. For the past couple of months, the public and the media alike have wondered who the oldest son of the Sawamura family, Prince Daichi, might marry now that he is quickly approaching 21. From professional photos to blurry ones from fans, everyone has been on the edge of their seats to see how this may end.

Earlier this week, an article was released with a photograph taken by a fan that featured what appeared to have Prince Daichi kissing some man on the cheek. This man had quite distinct hair, some have called it handsome bed hair, and had been seen in many other photos. However, unlike Oikawa Toru, the son of celebrities, or Ushijima Wakatoshi, the son of CEOs, no one knew who this man was. To many, he seemed unimportant; but when that article was released, that all changed.

The internet lost it. Gossip channels and Twitter pages started to spread misinformation about the alleged couple, which, in my opinion, made things a lot worse for Prince Daichi and the mystery man. However, it made things a lot worse for the prince and his true boyfriend.

From an interview I was lucky enough to get, Prince Daichi informed me that he has had a secret relationship for the past 3 years with, none other than, his manager, Sugawara Koushi. The constant theorizing about Prince Daichi’s boyfriend caused tension in their relationship, but they knew that they were okay. Until earlier this week. The photo the fan had captured was the last straw and Mr. Sugawara had enough. He was understandably scared.

But just like all prince charmings, Prince Daichi could never leave his beloved believing he would ever cheat. So with the help of his friends, a.k.a the dozens of theorized partners, they set up the most romantic experience I have ever seen. A gorgeous park, sakura trees, and a gazebo made their private affair something straight out of a fairytale. While the media was too far away to hear what was being exchanged between them, Prince Daichi let me know that they were words only meant for each other, which just made my heart melt. If anyone doubts their relationship, believe me, you shouldn’t. These two men are more in love than any other couple I’ve seen. I wish them luck and happiness for the rest of their lives.

3 years later and Daichi has never been happier. He’s married to the love of his life and his friends were still some of the most important people in his life. He can still picture how they all fought to be his best man at the wedding. Kuroo eventually won by citing that it was his and Daichi’s ‘love affair’ that got the two engaged.

They agreed that it was fair, but Daichi made sure they were all still part of his bachelor party, and damn, it was one eventful night. Koushi got incredibly drunk with Oikawa and Bokuto, who tried to get Kita just as wasted as them. Ushijima had a few too many drinks, but then he disappeared for a while and no one could figure out where he went. He came back half an hour later cradling a baby goat in his arms. He handed it off to Daichi with a pat on the shoulder and said, in a slurred voice, “I got you a wedding gift. It's a child,” before he passed out. Towards the end of the night, Kuroo was the last one on the dancefloor doing a slow dance to Cherry Wine by grentperez with the goat.

Daichi watched with his husband asleep under his arm, a ring on his finger, and a smile on his face. The life of a prince was rough, but as Daichi placed a kiss on Koushi’s head, he realized he wouldn’t change a thing.
