It was one mellow afternoon. I was walking around with no particular destination in mind, just taking my time enjoying some peace and quiet. Off in the distance was an amusement park buzzing with life. You could hear the joy and laughter even from this far away.
When was the last time I was able to enjoy a peaceful day like this? It feels like I barely have any time to rest with everything going on these days.
The clanking of heels growing closer snapped me from my thoughts. I followed the footsteps and found a certain pink elf casually walking by.
"Hi~ Fancy meeting you here~" She casually said.
"..."
"Oh? Cat got your tongue? Or are you too stunned by my beauty?" She flashed a teasing smile.
I didn't answer her, only smiled back. Too stunned to speak perhaps? Or maybe I wanted to savor this scenery?
The girl chuckled as the sea breeze blew her hair up. The sun was starting to slowly set behind her, bathing her in a beautiful orange hue.
"Mmm, the sound of the wind blowing, I miss it so much~"
Surely, no one would dispute her claim, this scenery alone could prove that. If only this moment could last forever.
Of course, she had other plans. She gently took my hand with a smile and led me down the road, casually taking our time. She was humming to a tune, a tune I didn't know but was somehow familiar with it.
I hummed along without realizing it. She turned around, a momentary shock on her face before going back to her usual cheery smile, a faint blush on her cheeks.
The amusement park was bustling with people. People of all ages were walking around enjoying the rides and each other's company.
"Let's go," She led me to one of the many rides in the amusement park, a merry-go-round.
Every person we passed by greeted her cheerfully and the girl greeted them back in kind. We didn't wait in line for long, there weren't that many people queued up to begin with.
We sat at the wooden horses just as the ride was about to start. I found no particular interest in the ride, having ridden this on more than one occasion before, yet the sight of her cheerily singing along to the ride's looped music was enough for me.
We walked around aimlessly after the ride. I expected her to lead me to another ride but there seemed to be something that was bothering her.
"Is something wrong?"
"I know my beauty can be distracting but if you only focus on me and not have fun with the rides, I'll be mad, you know!" She pouted. I didn't know how to respond. It was the first time I saw her mad. I didn't even know she could act like this.
"I-"
"Boop," She stuck out her tongue and lightly tapped my nose. Her usual smile came back as she let out a light chuckle. "Just kidding~ How could I be mad at you?"
"Why you-" I let out a sigh, a smile creeping up on my face. Of course, I can't believe I fell for that. But two can play that game. I grabbed her by the hand and pulled her close, embracing her. "But I'd rather just focus on you though,"
"Cheeky, now my heart's racing~" she muttered, her face turning a shade of red. She kept staring back as she rested her face on my chest. I rested a hand on the top of her head and gently caressed it.
"More," She pouted and pulled herself closer, demanding for more. I let out a chuckle and obliged, embracing her as I did.
Eventually, we had to break up. I didn't want to let go but she was insistent on going on more rides.
We ended up on the Ferris wheel. It was already getting late but fortunately, we reached the peak just in time.
She was sitting in front of me, gaze focused outside, a smile of satisfaction on her face bathed in the radiance of the setting sun.
Click.
She turned her attention to me and smiled. I had my phone out, the camera focused on her.
"Sneaking up on me now? How naughty of you~"
"Just something to remember by,"
"Eh? But I don't think I'm something you'll forget~"
"You know what I mean," I said, forcing a smile. She didn't say a word but I could tell she didn't like what I said.
She stood up and sat beside me instead, pulling me closer into an embrace. She gently played with my hair in silence, leaving me to hear nothing but her heartbeat, even that sounded angelic.
The ride eventually ended and once again, we broke away from each other. After that, we went through all the rides we possibly could. From the rollercoaster to the bumper cars, you name it, and she'll lead you to it.
We took a break at a nearby bench. She was nibbling on a strawberry crepe, humming to that tune earlier once again. She noticed me glancing and smiled back, some cream was stuck on her cheek. I couldn't help but chuckle as I reached to wipe it off.
"This feels like we're on a date~" She held my hand in place before I could pull away. She rested her hand on my hand and whispered. "Shall we make it more romantic~"
"How?"
"With some...fireworks?" Right on cue, a silent spark exploded into a thousand extraordinary particles, lighting up the night sky. More came after, showering the sky with different hues.
"Wow~ How beautiful~ It even feels more romantic especially with you~" She exclaimed as she let go of my hand, focusing on the fireworks show instead. My gaze didn't leave her, however. It was indeed beautiful, but there was something infinitely more captivating.
"I don't want you to go," I whispered silently, yet loud enough to dare hope for her to hear it.
She looked back at me wide-eyed yet she still forced a smile. "We agreed to move forward, didn't we? Don't worry, I'll always be with you until the end~"
"I always wanted to go to the amusement park with you, after all of these was over. I promise, I will give my best for the most luxurious fireworks that show up in the end~" She said, continuing to smile. Yet there was a hint of melancholy in her voice. "Because...I really have lots of things that I wanted to tell you."
"The banquet I mentioned before is starting soon," She stood up and brushed off the crumbs off her clothes. She stood in front of me and offered her hand. "Well then, may I invite you to dance with me one last time?"
"I accept..."
"...And thank you for everything, Elysia."
