Work Text:

She finds him at the seaside, breathing deep as he watches the waves rush the shore, staring towards Pentos, and the last ten years of his life.

It should be odd, shouldn't it? Things shouldn't feel so easy between them. She'd all but goaded him into committing several murders to steal her away the last time they met, had begged him to bring her here and marry her and let them live in a life they chose, happy and together.

She knows now, with the gift of age and wisdom, that while they would have been together, the charge she'd laid on him then was that of a young woman, barely old enough to even think of the consequences, let alone understand them.

She didn't want to live ten years apart, but either the old gods or the new have had a hand in their path they will cherish each other more now. They have suffered losses so great, so fundamentally profound that they have altered their beings, and yet they are still the same. Still of one blood, of one name--one fate.

"Do you miss it, Uncle?" She inquires, walking slowly down the beach, sand between her toes. "Pentos has been your home for many years."

She sees his shoulders rise in a shuddering breath before he turns to her, hands out as he reaches for her, wrapping her in his arms and pressing his forehead to hers, breathing her in as deeply as she does him, the comforting smell of leather and steel and dragon and Daemon filling her nostrils for the first time since her wedding feast.

He presses a kiss to her lips, gentle, disbelieving, and she smiles against his mouth, feeling the words as much as hearing them when he answers. "Ziry istan dōrī issa lenton, Rhaenyra. Ao issi issa lenton."

It was never my home, Rhaenyra. You are my home.
