Work Text:

Kai was no stranger to heat as he was the literal Master of Fire.

Sure, he could tell if something was hot (he was human, after all), but he had a high tolerance for heat. It wasn’t often Kai was bothered by a boiling summer day (it would have to be hot for him to notice; Nya used to tease him relentlessly when they were younger).

Lloyd, however, was not accustomed to heat like Kai was.

The Green Ninja’s element (if you could call it that) was Energy. While heat was a form of energy, energy was not a form of heat. Yes, Lloyd had dealt with hot summer days and near-deaths with lava, but he’d still felt the heat.

And it was because of that that Kai hated his biology now more than ever.

See, Kai and Lloyd were in a chamber on the side of a volcano. However, they were trapped inside, the entrance blocked by large rocks. And if that wasn’t enough of a problem, the temperature was increasing per minute.

Lloyd was leaning against Kai’s body, his skin hot and his cheeks flushed red. He wasn’t sweating anymore, his pulse strong and quick. His breaths came out hot and heavy, the faint scent of vomit on his lips. Kai had already taken Lloyd’s gi off to help release some heat (he did leave Lloyd’s undergarments on because he knew the kid would hate him forever if he didn’t).

As much as Kai hated to admit it, his body was cooler than the cave’s temperature, so he left Lloyd against him.

Of course, there was a reason for that.

While Kai managed to get Lloyd out of the way of the rockslide that now blocked the entrance to the cave, Kai himself did not. His right leg had a huge vertical gash that ran from his knee down the side of his calf, ending right above his ankle. The wound was bleeding sluggishly now, but he knew he’d lost quite a bit of blood if the dizziness meant anything. His skin was clammy and cool (he could tell by how he was shivering, even with the heat of the cave), making him a great ice pack for Lloyd.

Kai had sent Jay to grab Cole to get him and Lloyd out, but he didn’t know how much longer they had (he could already tell the air was becoming stale and thick, not just from the heat).

“It’ll be okay,” Kai murmured while leaning his head against Lloyd’s.

Lloyd released a gentle moan, his eyelids fluttering.

“‘Ai?” Lloyd slurred.

“Yeah, kid?” Kai replied.

“M’ t’my hur’s.”

“Yeah, I’m sure it does.”

“‘M I pre’nan’?”

“Nah, kid, you’re not pregnant. You’re just super sick right now.”

“Oh.”

There was silence for a moment when Lloyd suddenly jerked to the side with a dry heave. The sudden movement made Kai’s head spin, but he held the kid upright.

“There isn’t anything in you, kiddo,” he soothed, his voice growing weak. “You’re okay.”

“I’ hur’s,” Lloyd cried out.

“I know, Lloyd, I know.”

“M’ke it s’op.”

“I can’t.”

Kai suspected Lloyd would be tearing up if he wasn’t so overheated. It took a bit for Kai to get Lloyd to settle down, but Lloyd eventually went down again.

Suddenly, the rocks at the front of the cave moved, and Kai heard the voices of the other Ninja.

Just in time, ’ he thought as he fell unconscious, the lack of blood catching up to him.

Notes:

So, how was it? Good? Bad? Meh? Lemme know! I love hearing about my writing :)

In case you need translations of what Lloyd says:
“‘Ai?” = "Kai?"
“M’ t’my hur’s.” = "My tummy hurts."
“‘M I pre’nan’?” = "Am I pregnant?"
“I’ hur’s.” = "It hurts."
“M’ke it s’op.” = "Make it stop."
