Chapter Text
Willow had never been to Luz’s house
They had been going to the same College for a year, and had met and became quick friends. Luz lived in Gravesfield, whereas Willow grew up two towns over. It surprised her honestly that they hadn’t met sooner, before it was just her and Gus. Willow and Luz were home for fall break, Luz had invited her over to her house to hangout, and to see where she grew up. Willow had parked her car on the side of the road, right before a mailbox that said Noceda with paint hand-prints, each set different in size and colors of purple, blue, and red.
Luz had mentioned she had siblings before, but she had yet to share enough details with Willow, aside from that one of them was her twin. Luz usually got caught up talking about fictional people rather than real people.
The house was an average neighborhood home, small with some flower beds in front, with a step leading up to the front door. Before stepping up to the door, Willow took a look through the flowerbeds, although it was fall and there weren’t really any flowers left, she spotted some gourds growing underneath some of the other dead plant matter.
Willow never got a chance to even step foot in front of the door before Luz burst it open with one arm. “WILLOW! How’s it hanging?” She punctuated her sentence with finger guns in Willow’s direction.
“Not much, we both just got out of school two days ago Luz.” She had no doubt in her mind that Luz may have already gotten into some trouble within the last couple of days though.
“True, but anyways, come in! We have so much to catch up on to make up for never meeting growing up. I’m thinking sleepovers!” Of course she would want to do dumb childish teenage things with the first real friend she ever made, she missed out on too much and was determined to be as juvenile with her young adult years as possible.
Willow stepped inside the house, and stood awkwardly in the living room, not really knowing what to do with herself. “Come on we’ve got sooo much to do over break!” Luz waved a hand for Willow to follow her into the kitchen.
Walking through the kitchen Willow looked at her phone to see a texts from her dads that they would be out of the house for the rest of the day, she then noticed how low her phone battery was and asked Luz where she could charge it, She directed her towards an outlet over the counter top, adjacent to where the stairs were around the corner from the doorway. After Willow had plugged in her phone, Luz announced that she had to go into the garage to do some kind of chore her mom asked her to do while she was gone. “ It’ll just take a few minutes, make yourself at home!” Luz yelled over her shoulder as she left.
Willow scrolled on her phone until her return. It was nice being back in a smaller, more rural area, the college they went to was in a city, not too big, but a city nonetheless. It was nice to relax and not to have to look over her shoulder as often. Growing up in a smaller town, being in the city made her anxious, especially when she had a particularly late class and had to walk by herself.
A few minutes had passed since Luz went out to the garage, Willow still focused on her phone to keep busy till she got back.
It was then that someone else had come into the kitchen right behind her. Without thinking, and being used to being in paranoid-defense- mode from school, Willow had taken the unsuspecting resident by the throat with a surprising amount of force and, with a surprised yelp from the invader, slammed them into the wall next to the door, successfully pinning them.
It happened so quickly that it took Willow a minute to realize what she just did. Looking up at her victim, it was a boy maybe her age or older, tall [she had just noticed she was standing on her toes], ash blond hair, and deep chestnut eyes. He had a scar on his cheek, and his face was frozen in shock from being attacked in his own kitchen, eyes wide, and mouth slightly open, allowing Willow to notice a gap between his two front teeth. He was wearing a black t-shirt and baggy jeans, red socks that might have had birds on them?
It was that moment that Luz came back into the kitchen from the garage door. “Woah, uh. . . Willow I see you’ve met my brother. Willow, Hunter. Hunter Willow!” she gestured with her hand towards each of them respectively. Willow looked from Luz back to Hunter, finally letting go as fast as possible, as not to embarrass herself any further. “I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to do that! I’m just used to being. . . on. . the . . lookout, ya know?” she wasn’t making this any better.
He seemed dazed. It took Hunter a second to come back into himself. “Oh, yeah right, uh I get it. . . I’m uh. . the same way, . . . heh.” he was still frozen to his spot against the wall, “Uh. . I’m Hunter. . . nice to meet you.” he held out his hand for a handshake, and no his voice didn’t crack. Thank you very much.
“Willow” she took his hand and the force from her handshake completely shook Hunter, when she let go he held his hand close to his chest. “Willow.” he said it almost wistfully, and was hoping no one noticed.
They both stood there awkwardly, Willow with her hands folded in front of her. He didn’t move his eyes away from her until Luz spoke up again, “ Alright then, dear ol’ brother of mine, if you’ll excuse us, Willow and I have fall break activities to plan together. Willow! To my room!” she said, raising a finger in the air, and grabbing Willow’s hand and dragging her up the stairs to her room. She was excited to show Willow her overwhelming plushie collection.
On their way out the kitchen door, Willow waved at Hunter over her shoulder. Then the girls disappeared up the staircase.
-
Hunter was still frozen in place, once the girls had gone from view, he slid down the wall that he had been pinned to, and sat, and honestly, was stunned.
He had just wanted to grab a snack from the kitchen, and sneak back up to his room unbothered, but had been grabbed and shoved against the wall - by a pretty girl. . . before he could think, he had been jumped, by a pretty girl, that was in his house, and now he was still sitting here minutes later still thinking about it.
Still thinking about her dark fluffy hair, tied to the sides in messy braids, framing her soft features, gold-rimmed glasses highlighting the bright green eyes behind them. Her impressive strength holding him in place and shaking his hand, contrast to her soft yellow skirt, flaring out from her wide hips, hitching there, the skirt resting almost halfway up her thigh from standing on her toes, showing the ruffle underneath and - Nope! Not going there. A soft beige sweater with floral print on top.
Her appearance was so pretty and beautiful and she could destroy him if she really wanted to. . .
Being attacked by a pretty girl was the highlight of his day.
Willow was Luz’s friend. She would be here for the two weeks Luz was home. She would be coming over all break.
Hunter didn’t know how he was supposed to live without tripping over himself at every turn whenever Willow was around. His first impression was already weird and awkward, so much for that. He had never felt this way about someone at first sight, maybe it's weird that he became immediately smitten with a girl, who upon first meeting attacked him, but who cares. That was impressive.
Hunter eventually picked himself off the floor, and may or may not have tried to eavesdrop outside of his sister’s room, before making his way back to his.
-
Luz had already noticed her brother’s weirder-than-normal behavior upon meeting Willow, and she would not be surprised at how much more attention to her social life and what she was doing that day, and she could swear Willow was inviting herself over, just so she could see Hunter around the house.
She couldn’t decide if it would be fun or insufferable to watch her best friend and brother dancing around each other for weeks, she’ll just have to wait till how she felt after this break was over.
