Burning

Summary:

Aubrey, Kim, and the rest of the Hooligans go to a house party after attending prom. Aubrey and Kim hang out in a mostly unpopulated area, drinking. Aubrey and Kim admit to each other that they've never kissed anyone, and Kim suggests that they kiss each other, to see how it feels.

Notes:

It's been 2 years since Sunny told the truth, and the characters are 18.

I have not written anything in like 8 months, plus this is my first OMORI fanfiction, so I'm so sorry if this is shit lol.

Also found out my school doesn't block AO3, so guess where I wrote and published this.

Work Text:

Loud blaring music played, engulfing the house in noise. Flashing lights erupting rapidly in the living room and people doing things they’d regret in the morning. Typical Hollywood-esq house party, but it was the after-party for prom, so what else was there to expect? Everyone there would be graduating soon.

That’s why Aubrey and the rest of the Hooligans went. They had a good time at prom, causing chaos and such. But they were mostly excited for the afterparty, but as time went on when they were there, they branched off to do their own things. The only ones left together were Aubrey and Kim.

The two were in a room, it was quieter than the rest of the house, but the music was still very much apparent. Kim snatched a couple bottles of alcohol from the kitchen, and the two were laughing together, drinking and trying to have a good time, ignoring the fact that high school was soon to be over, and ignoring the fact they still had no plans for their future.

“And so,” Kim was in the middle of explaining a story she thought was funny, Aubrey had heard it a million times but never said anything, “Vance jumped off the roof onto our trampoline, and ended up breaking it, falling through,” the two laughed, Aubrey pouring herself another shot of whiskey. Needless to say, the two were drunk off their asses.

“It was so funny! He was crying and everything!”

Aubrey finished laughing, taking a deep breath, “Y’know,” she began, “ as embarrassing as it is to admit, I’ve never kissed anyone, like, actually kissed anyone, even though high school’s almost finished.”

Kim looked at her friend in disbelief, “Really?” she questioned, leaning forward to look at Aubrey’s face more clearly.

The other nodded, “Yeah, I just haven’t found the right guy, I guess. I dunno,” she sighed, “no guy feels special to me in that way. I thought I liked Sunny, but whenever I thought about doing anything… typically romantic with him, I just felt grossed out,” She explained, sipping from her shot glass.

Kim hummed, slumping back in her chair and twirling the shot glass in her hand ever so slightly, “To be honest with you, I haven’t either. Kissed anyone or found the right guy, I mean.”

This time, it was Aubrey’s turn to sit up to analyze her friend to see if she was joking or not. “But, but you’re so pretty, how could anyone not kiss you?” She blurted out. It was probably the fact Aubrey was drunk, but that was something Aubrey would’ve never said out loud under any other circumstance. Kim stared in disbelief.

“You’re kidding, right?” Kim laughed, the shock apparent in her tone, “you are way prettier than me, genuinely, I can’t imagine a single reason why somebody wouldn’t want to kiss you!”

“Absolutely not, you are so hot, why wouldn’t a guy want to be with you? Or kiss you?”

“Excuse me, you are way more attractive. You’re extremely easy on the eyes, I could look at you all day, honestly!”

“I wouldn’t mind, cause honestly I like catching glimpses of you any chance I can get- I like looking at you because you’re so beautiful!”

The two looked at each other with annoyance, but a playful kind of annoyance. The two burst into giggles, Aubrey took another sip from her shot glass.

A small smile spread across Kim’s face as she took another glimpse at Aubrey. An idea popped into her head.

“Well, you know…” Kim started, trailing off, looking towards the ceiling as Aubrey turned her attention back to her friend, humming in interest of what Kim was going to say. “Seeing as neither of us have kissed anyone, why don’t we just kiss each other? To see how it feels?” Kim suggested, looking back to Aubrey to see Aubrey’s face turn a shade of lovely rose, her mouth agape and her jaw wide open.

A sudden burst of anxiety shot through Kim as she realized the implications of her suggestion, “We don’t have to if you don’t want to!” She tacked on quickly.

She watched as Aubrey blinked, closing her mouth, pursing her lips for a moment before releasing a nervous laugh, “Wouldn’t that be weird though..?” She questioned. The idea of kissing a girl never occurred to her, honestly, “I mean, cause we’re both girls. Aren’t we both supposed to, like, kiss guys only..?”

“Ah, yeah, you’re right,” Kim felt herself crumble a bit, “sorry, that was weird. Ignore that I said that.”

“No no,” Aubrey took a deep breath, millions of thoughts running through her brain, “uh, we can. If you want. I dunno, sorry, I just never really considered that to be a possibility.”

Her friend turned back to her, worry on her face, “But do you want to?” she asked, not wanting to force something on Aubrey, not wanting to force Aubrey to do something she wasn’t comfortable with. Yeah, they were both drunk and not thinking the clearest, but Kim was rational enough to consider her friend’s feelings.

Aubrey thought for a moment before nodding slowly, “Yeah,” she confirmed, “admittedly, I’m also really curious to see how it feels.”

Kim smiled, reaching out her arms, “Alright then, come here, let’s try to do this,” she felt her heartbeat pick up, was she shaking? She felt like she was shaking.

Aubrey got up, stumbling a bit before walking over to the couch Kim was sitting on, before crawling on top of her, Kim wrapping her hands around the back of her best friend’s head. If she wasn’t nervous before, she sure was now. Never really understanding the expression ‘butterflies in your stomach’ until now. She slowly stroked Aubrey’s hair, it was a little dry due to the dye, but soft regardless. Kim and Aubrey had their eyes locked on each other’s, Aubrey glanced down at Kim’s lips, and Kim did the same, before the two’s eyes shot back up to continue staring at each other.

“If you don’t want to, you can back out now..” Kim whispered, she felt the quiver in her voice. Was she nervous about this being her first kiss, or was she nervous over the fact it was Aubrey?

Aubrey leaned in closer, their noses gently brushing against each other before she whispered back, “I do, I.. I want to do this..”

The two stared at each other, nervous as to who was going to initiate. Eventually, Kim took a deep breath and leaned in, pressing her lips against her best friend’s, kissing her, and feeling Aubrey kiss back. It shot waves of.. Something, through her body.

Aubrey rested on her elbows, effectively having Kim pinned below her as the two shared a gentle kiss. Something in her told her this, this was wrong. She should be kissing a man right now, but her heart pounded and her body felt like it was floating. She tried convincing herself that she only felt this way because Kim looked kind of like a man, right?

When the two pulled away, they stared at each other intently, their faces and ears a shade of crimson and amazement shared in both of their expressions.

And wow, Kim was pretty. Like, really pretty. She’s so much prettier up close, which Aubrey didn’t even know was possible.

“That was..” Kim mumbled, Aubrey couldn’t help but look at her lips. They felt amazing against hers, and she wanted to press them together again and again.

“Amazing?” Aubrey finished, a smile growing on her lips as Kim nodded. They both felt incredibly vulnerable, not sure what to do next.

Kim swallowed, “Do you.. Do you want to do that again?” she asked anxiously. She felt her hands acting on their own, running her fingers through Aubrey’s hair.

“I thought you’d never ask,” and once more, their lips were on each other. The kiss, more aggressive than before, the nervousness still there, but not as bad. And oh, it felt incredible to both of them. Kim felt as if fireworks went off in her body, and Aubrey felt more alive than she had in years.

Kim tilted her head, the two deepening the kiss. She wanted more, more of whatever this was. She never imagined that kisses would feel so amazing, when she imagined it with men, it never seemed all that appealing. But now, between the arms of Aubrey, she never wanted it to end.

They separated their lips again, but it wasn’t long before they met again. A push and pull dance, getting more and more hungry with each kiss.

Aubrey thought back to old Church ceremonies, vaguely remembering the pastor saying that it was a sin for two girls to kiss. Guilt ate away at her, but she continued, because how could something so wrong feel so right? So good?

Aubrey felt Kim gently bite down and pull at Aubrey’s bottom lip, causing a wave of emotion to crash through Aubrey once more. Taking a breath before going back in for more, like she had been starving her entire life and finally got a taste of food.

The girl below her felt chills go down her spine, running her fingers through Aubrey’s bubblegum pink hair, her kisses sweeter than the candy that Kim loved, softer than gummies and more addicting than taffy. So addicting, and just like candy, all she wanted was more.

So she mustered up some courage and gently pushed her tongue forward, brushing it up against Aubrey’s lips.

Aubrey was stunned for a moment, before shyly opening her mouth and allowing their tongues to join their lips in their dance.

It was magical, Aubrey kept trying to go deeper, dive deeper into this feeling.

Kim’s lips were the forbidden fruit, and Aubrey couldn’t get enough of it. The feeling of Kim’s hands, gently combing through her hair was like a prayer and she tasted of sweet sin. No matter how much guilt bubbled inside of Aubrey, she kept going, deeper and deeper. Consuming each individual fruit from the forbidden tree until she was nothing but sin herself.

The tongues explored the new territory before twisting and tangling between each other. Aubrey leaned in more, their bodies flat against each other, and Kim was so warm. So comforting. She loved it. She wanted more, more, more…

But eventually, the two broke apart. Their eyes opened, but were half-lidded. Kim watched the string of saliva bridge their mouths before promptly snapping. The two of them panted, trying to catch their breath. They stared at each other, Aubrey loving Kim’s piercing orange eyes.

Eventually, Aubrey swallowed, letting an out of breath, “Wow…” escape her lips.

Kim nodded, “Yeah.. wow…”

Kim smiled, making Aubrey’s heart jump. But she smiled back, leaning her forehead against the other’s.

Remaining like this made Aubrey think, what now? How could they kiss like that, kiss like that and have it mean nothing? Cause to Aubrey, it meant everything.

Do they just get up and continue drinking as if nothing happened? Do they just forget all about this? Aubrey didn’t want to forget, ever.

As if Kim was reading her mind, she mumbled, “What now?”

Aubrey opened her eyes, pulling away, “I don’t know. What do you want to do..?” Aubrey tried not to sound too worried, but it was pretty evident by the shake in her voice.

“Not sure,” Kim answered, pausing before asking, “can I be honest?”

Aubrey nodded, the worry continued to grow.

Kim sighed, “I liked that. I mean like, really liked that,” she admitted, “like, way more than I should.”

“Me too,” Aubrey confessed, “And I- I don’t want to just forget about all of this.”

The other nodded in agreement.

The two go quiet, the silence is deafening despite the muffled music and people talking.

“I might love you.”

Aubrey snapped her eyes to Kim, confusion on her face. Huh?

Kim’s face flushed even darker, “Sorry, I just felt like I should say it- or something.”

“I know I like your kisses, but I’m not sure, I never.. Never considered liking a girl.” Aubrey murmured.

Kim removed one of her hands from behind Aubrey’s head, reaching to take in one of Aubrey’s hands. “Then let’s try dating and see how it goes,” she smiled, “See if we like each other that way.”

“My mom won’t like it,” Aubrey huffed in amusement, but liking the idea.

A grin emerged on Kim’s face as she took Aubrey’s face in her hands, “Who the fuck cares what they think? You’re never this worried about this kinda stuff, Aubs’. Let’s just have fun with life while we can!”

She leaned into Kim’s touch, nodding, “Yeah… you’re right…”

And with that, she leaned in again to steal another kiss.
