weird little habits

Summary:

It was a normal conversation. People talk about their weird habits all the time.

Work Text:

Micah grinned as you put the pot back in the dishrack. You gave him a questioning stare in response.

"Yeah?

"Nnnnnnothing. I was just thinking... you always wash the pots with your left hand instead of your right."

"You don't do that?"

“Angel, If I did, I wouldn’t have pointed it out.”

You rolled your eyes, grabbing the next plate.

“Well, you always leave your toothbrush in the shower instead of brushing your teeth after taking a shower, like a normal person.”

“You prefer brushing your hair with your fingers over a hairbrush.”

“You only play terraria on rainy days.”

You put the last of the plates on the dishrack to dry, joining Micah on the couch. He was doing menial chores on his Animal Crossing island, which you could see on the tv.

“You really notice all that much about me?” You asked, grabbing your switch off the coffee table and booting up the same game.

“I think I’ve stuck around long enough to know everything about you, Angel.”

“Stalker.”

“More like good boyfriend.”

You sighed.

“You also sleep with two pillows stacked on top of each other.” Micah added. You looked over at him.

“It feels softer when I sleep on my side. You can’t sleep when it’s too cold.”

“It feels nice to sleep when I’m snuggling something warm! You may not have noticed this, but I don’t like cold chocolate. Cold stuff… hurts my teeth.”

“Really? Not even ice cream? I love eating ice cream. Especially flavours with crunchy bits in them, like cookies and cream.”

“You eat ice cream a lot when you’re upset, too.”

“I do? I never noticed.” You thought out loud. Micah laughed, putting his controller down.

“Yeah. And when you’re really happy, you’ll eat anything.”

“Except expired food.”

“Obviously.”

You leaned your shoulder on Micah’s, who leaned his head on yours in return.

“And you… like biting things.” You stated. You weren’t quite sure where you were going with that one, but it wasn’t a horrible way to continue the conversation.

“Your word association game is spot on.”

Apparently not.

“Cut me some slack. It’s hard to notice all of your quirks when I’m just so used to them.”

“No, it’s not! I can list every little thing about you.”

“Creepy.”

“I don’t mean it like that.”

The conversation lulled for a bit. You wondered if your little habits were endearing to Micah. Anything Micah did interested you, but you never really saw it as little habits. You just saw it as Micah things. And it was hard to differentiate what was a normal human person thing and what was exclusively a Micah special. You thought back to when you guys first met, then back to your first video calls…

“Oh! I know one of your habits.”

“Oh? Do tell.”

“When you’re embarrassed, sometimes you whimper like a sad dog.”

Micah flushed red, avoiding eye contact and putting his head in his hands. You cocked your eyebrow with a sly grin and stared at him directly until you heard the satisfying noise leak out of him. In response to your victory, you cackled.
