Mr. Grizz

Summary:

After the events of Splatoon 3, Mr. Grizz reflects on the past.

Work Text:

He had lost. His plan had failed. And now Mr. Grizz was drifting in the black void of space.

He wasn’t sure whether or not he was mad, in all honesty.

An essential part of running an effective business, whether or not you liked it, was to recognize when change was needed, and when it was not. Regardless if it was changing your marketing with the times, replacing inefficient and outdated practices, or anything else, recognizing when changes were needed, and not being stubborn when the time comes to make those changes was an important part of running a business. A continual, stubborn refusal to accept change can be any business’ downfall.

Maybe he was too stubborn. Maybe the world was meant to change in this way. He could have accepted the change, and built his business around it. If he realized how wrong and stubborn he was being sooner, maybe he could have been happy there, instead of being here now, floating in the black space around the Earth.

Well, it already happened, and worrying about the past is useless, in business and in life. Being able to move on is a skill required for both.

But there isn’t really much else to do when drifting around in space.

He looks toward the planet. The ink that was flung out from the rocket's destruction is being pulled into the planet's atmosphere, encircling it.

It’s really quite beautiful.

He hopes Grizzco is doing well in his absence.

Even if he was using it as a means to an end, he really did care about that company. He was a man (more accurately bear) of business, after all. You’d be hard pressed to find any of those that didn’t really care about their company. Well, any truly successful one, anyway.

He knew that losing him would be a huge blow to the company, but he was confident that they could pick up and continue on without him. They were good like that. Good employees and good people, as well.

He misses them. He really did like them, and he really did feel guilty about using them, now that he thought back on it.

God, if only he had realized how wrong he was sooner….

Maybe he’d fall back down to Earth in a couple hundred years or so and come back to see that Grizzco was one of the biggest companies on the planet. That would be a pleasant surprise.

But that was simply a hope for the future. Who knows what the world will be like when he gets back?

Yes, when he gets back. He WILL return to Earth someday. The Fuzzy Ooze had made him effectively immune to senescence, after all.

It might take a while for him to finally come back down to Earth, but he could wait. A couple hundred years in space is nothing compared to 12,000 years of frozen on the Ark Polaris, after all.

But for now, he planned and thought and waited.

He couldn’t wait to be back.
