Work Text:
It was the prime time for among us. Every evening Sapnap streamed the game with his friends. He had a lot of fun and met a ton of new people through the rounds. He even got the chance to reconnect with his online childhood friend Clay, now going as Dream, with whom he had lost contact over the long distance. Dream had messaged him one morning that he had watched his stream the day before and would love to step in whenever they needed another player. Sooner than Sapnap had imagined, they actually needed a player to fill in and he was quick to message Dream. This is how Dream became close friends with Sapnap again, spending hours upon hours in vc together. He also got along well with Sapnap’s other friends who he formed incredible imposter duos with.
So, how was George thrown into the mix? Well, pretty similar to be honest. George was on stream, talking to chat about what he could do on stream today. One of his mods sent him a link to Sapnap’s stream with whom he had participated in a minecraft event before. Since then they had talked sometimes and checked out each other’s streams. They always planned to stream together but so far it hasn’t happened yet. Jumping into action (and ignoring how weird this would be if Sapnap wasn’t up for it), George messaged Sapnap and asked if he could join their among us lobby if they needed another player. To his surprise, Sapnap had said yes almost immediately and he was added to a call.
Dream’s and George’s friendship started that evening. In one of the first rounds, they had been put together as imposters and had won the round due to Dream just being cracked at the game. After that, George stayed with Dream for the rest of the rounds they played that evening, hoping that Dream would protect and not betray him. They had never heard of each other before that evening but after playing together for one evening straight, they streamed together almost every time.
Now, almost two years later, after countless hours in vc and weekly streams together, they have decided that it’s finally time to meet up irl. They wanted to do that way before but with the covid restriction, it was close to impossible. Finally, conventions were back and the Twitchcon in Amsterdam seemed to be the perfect occasion for a meet-up. They both planned on attending anyways, wanting to allow their fans to meet them and also connect to their streamer friends without a monitor separating them.
So, plans were made, hotels were booked and they applied for Twitchcon cards which were quickly sent their way after twitch approved them.
Everything seemed to be perfect. They would finally meet up after all of this time.
They had never seen each other before. Obviously not in real life but neither over facecam. They face-timed occasionally but the only thing they have seen of each other were legs when they walked through the house on call or a whip of hair when the phone was placed down on the desk next to the keyboard. Sure, they have described to each other what they look like. But George was especially set on the fact that he wanted to Dream irl for the first time and not ruin the surprise over a facetime call. So, Dream just respected his wish and went with it.
Dream was due to arrive about two hours earlier than George’s flight but due to the plane already being late when arriving in Florida, two hours quickly turned into 15 minutes and Dream barely managed to get his suitcase before he had to make his way to the gate George would arrive on.
His stomach grumbled and he really regretted not getting something on the airplane, even though he probably saved over 20 dollars with how overpriced the airlines were. He planned to get something to eat while waiting on George but due to his late arrival, that plan had to be overthrown as well.
Being short on time, Dream decided to stay at the luggage distribution, looking for the conveyor belt George had to get to instead of hurrying to the gate where his British friend would arrive. He shot George a message, despite his lack of hope that he would read it in the rush of getting out of the plane and figuring out where to get his suitcase.
“Dream”, a warm voice breathes behind him.
He whips around, facing the brunette he has waited so long to see. They had sent each other a description of what they were wearing on the plane to make sure that they would recognise each other. To be honest, Dream wouldn’t have needed it. The boy in front of him was George, no doubt. He fit the description of what George has told him over the years perfectly, chocolaty locks slightly hanging into his eyes which were a beautiful brown as well. A small scar on the side of his face created an unintentional slit in his eyebrow. George had told him the story of how he had gotten it in his childhood but Dream never would have guessed that it was still so prominent today. To sum it up, George was beautiful and exactly Dream’s type.
“George!”
Dream wrapped his arms around the brunette, hiding the fact that he had stared at him. George snaked his arms around Dream’s waist, pressing him tightly against his body and nuzzling his face into Dream’s shoulder. George smelled like pinewood, like pavement after a rain, like a walk through a blooming forest. He smelled of everything nice and nothing at all, just like George. Dream’s nose dug into the brown locks on top of George’s head, pressing a small kiss onto his scalp.
At first, he was afraid that he had done too much. That he had weirded George out and that the following days would be weird because staying together in real life is different than staying together in discord calls for more than twelve hours.
George lifted his head from Dream’s neck but he never pulled out of the embrace completely. Fuck, Dream had just ruined everything between them. But then, George broke out into an even bigger smile and his hands gripped tightly into the fabric of Dream’s hoodie as he kept his eyes fixed on Dream’s face but pressed his body back into the already familiar warmth. So, Dream hadn’t fucked up and George actually didn’t mind their closeness.
Dream looked down at George as well, holding his gaze and spurting a blush on his freckled cheeks.
“I am so glad that we finally could meet up.”
Dream tightened his arms around George even more. He could never take this for granted. Knowing George, finally meeting him, just everything about this friendship.
“And I can finally see what you look like.”
George peeled himself out of the hug as the conveyor belt behind them started to rumble and the first suitcases from George’s flight were picked up by their owners. George stayed close to Dream, still. Their shoulders brushed together as they were standing so close. And one of their hands each rested on the handle of Dream’s luggage, their fingers lightly brushing against each other.
“I hope I didn’t disappoint.”
George scoffed, making Dream laugh.
“You are an idiot.”
George didn’t admit to finding Dream attractive but the blonde knew that this would be as good as it got and just took it.
Finally, George spotted his suitcase on the belt. He had been way too distracted with Dream standing so close to him and looking this good. How would he be able to keep his eyes on the luggage rolling by when there stood a literal god directly beside him? George pointed the suitcase out. Before he could get it himself, Dream already hurried after it to reach it before it would disappear into the backrooms of the airport again.
Dream looked too good to be real, turns out he is a total gentleman as well. Firstly, getting George’s suitcase and then also pulling it through the airport as they make their way to the exit.
George stood on the sidewalk with his hands in the pockets of his hoodie, surrounded by their luggage. Dream tried to spot the Uber he had ordered for the both of them. Finally, a car stopped in front of them and asked for their names. After assuring that it really was their drive, Dream ushered George into the backseat while he put their suitcases into the trunk of the car.
He had noticed how tired George looked, rubbing at his eyes and barely being able to stand on his own without stumbling. Dream had made it his mission to get George to sleep as fast as possible and to make their trip to the hotel relaxing and enjoyable. At least for George, that was.
For Dream it was twice as stressful. He had to worry for both their luggage and for a tired boy now. But the sleepy smile that George wore on his lips as Dream got in the backseat next to him, made everything worth it.
During the ride, George’s head tipped towards the middle seat multiple times and he awoke from the sudden movement as he nearly fell over. At one point, after George had opened his eyes again, being annoyed because he couldn’t sleep peacefully, Dream scooted in the middle seat and pulled George’s head onto his shoulder so he could finally get some sleep.
Dream’s heart broke when he had to wake up George from his slumber as their Uber stopped in front of their hotel.
“What?”
George still looked half asleep as he stumbled out of the car drunkenly. Dream got their suitcases and placed them by George’s side, while he thanked their driver. When he got back to George, the brunette had his eyes closed again as he was leaning against the wall of the hotel.
“Come on, let’s get you inside.”
Dream looped his arm around George’s waist, forcing the Brit to pull his own suitcase but guiding him into the foyer steadily.
George’s mind was sleepy and he wouldn’t be much use checking in. So he just handed Dream his wallet and planned to fall right back asleep on the comfy couch in the hotel’s foyer.
“George, come here please”, he heard Dream call. Assuming that the receptionist didn’t accept Dream checking him in as well, George stood up annoyed. He made his way to the blonde, placing himself right by his side.
“There has unfortunately been a mistake in the system. Instead of getting two seperate beds, you got a double bed”, the receptionist explained respectfully.
George looked up at Dream with a confused look on his face, his sleep-hazed mind not having understood the problem yet. Sharing a room, that was their plan all along. So why was there a problem with that now? Dream was already looking down on him, placing his arm around George’s waist to support his weight.
“Looks like we have to share a bed, George.”
Suddenly, all the sleepiness vanished from George’s mind and body. He tensed in Dream’s arms.
Since he had seen the blonde in real life for the first time, he had known that living in one room for a week would be torture. Dream looked way too good and his looks had just intensified the crush George has had on Dream for ages. He wouldn’t survive a week of sleeping in the same bed with the person he was attracted to.
George panicked.
This week would surely reveal his crush. George wanted to protest to the receptionist and ask for a different solution to this problem.
“Because of the convention we are completely booked, unfortunately. The double bed is the only option I can offer you.”
Slowly, George nodded. They had waited so long to finally meet up and this trip has been planned for several months already. George cursed himself for not reading the emails better, maybe he would have seen the mistake beforehand and they could have handled this before. But this wasn’t the case and there was no going back now.
Arriving in their room, George couldn’t be bothered to unpack his stuff nor to change his clothes. He just fell face-first into the mattress and shut his eyes. If he didn’t think about sharing a bed with Dream, maybe the problem would just vanish. Maybe he would fall asleep before Dream was ready for bed, his organized nature not allowing to leave his suitcase unpacked. George didn’t want to solve their problem like this, by letting Dream figure out a solution, but he was too tired to move or even think about it.
Dream definitely didn’t plan for this to happen. When he woke up it took him a moment to realize what the weight on his chest was and what tickled him under his nose. He had something in his arms and pulled it closer to his chest as he nuzzled back into the mattress.
Suddenly, the thing he was holding onto moved as well. Dream’s eyes snapped open and all he saw was a mess of chocolate brown curls.
Shit. Shit. Shit.
They most definitely didn’t fall asleep like this. When Dream got into bed, George had been fast asleep for over half an hour already. He got into bed next to him as he was nearly as exhausted as the brunet was. But Dream had held onto his last bit of motivation to get the both of them into their hotel room safely. And then, this mess happened.
Getting into bed next to a sleeping George made Dream almost feel domestic. But a hinge of guilt nagged on the back of his brain, urging him to at least lay a couple of pillows between them to keep up a safe distance overnight.
And now, Dream had woken up to this.
The worst part was that George didn’t know about Dream’s efforts and was waking up to them being in this position completely out of the blue. Well, Dream also was confused when he had woken up but he at least knew that it wasn’t necessarily his fault that they ended up lying like this. On top of each other, holding the other one in their arms and snuggling.
In all honesty, for Dream it was a dream come true to lay in a position like this with George. But he wished for it to happen under different conditions certainly. To have talked to George beforehand, to confess his feelings and to have George actually enjoying this as much as he himself did.
"Dream, what the fuck happened?"
Dream shook under the sleep-ridden voice, imagining himself back to his school days when his parents would scold him for his lack of homework. He took a deep breath and looked down at George with a guilty look on his face. It wasn't his fault but George didn't know that yet.
Maybe, this conversation would end their friendship but Dream readied himself to talk anyways. Maybe, for the most meaningful conversation of his entire life.
"Dream, what the fuck happened?"
“George, look, I can explain.” Dream laid his arm over his forehead to hide his flushed face from the brunet still laying on his chest. It was a good sign that George hadn’t moved yet, wasn’t it?
George let out a low chuckle and rolled off of Dream. He stayed there, Dream and George just laying next to each other for a moment but their arms were still touching. Then, George pulled himself up to sit against the headboard. Dream tilted his head, trying to keep looking at him while resembling a confused puppy. A fond smile made its way onto George’s lips as he motioned for Dream to scoot up next to him.
“It seriously wasn’t my intention. And I don’t think that it is my fault either. I tried to build a pillow barrier between us but it seems like it didn’t work out. And I am terribly sorry but…”
George gripped Dream’s hand and squeezed it reassuringly. Dream stopped his rambling and looked at George apologetically as he realized the gush of words that just left his mouth. George began to fiddle with Dream’s fingers that he had still enclosed in his hand as he searched for the right words to say.
“I am a bit of a cuddler when there is another person in bed with me”, George brought out slowly, scanning Dream’s face closely for a reaction. The blonde’s face didn’t show any emotion so George explained further.
“That’s why I was so hesitant about sharing a bed. I am sorry, too. I should have told you beforehand but yesterday evening…”
“I get it. Don’t worry about it.” Dream squeezed his hand back and pulled their connected hands closer to his upper body. George smiled, glad that they could sort the situation out and that Dream reacted in the way that he did. George placed his head on Dream’s shoulder, his hair tickled Dream’s neck, who nuzzled his nose into the mess of brown locks and hid his smile that way.
“I am so glad that you are here, you know?” Dream’s words were muffled by George’s hair but the brunet understood him anyway.
“I know, I am glad too.” It was domestic between them and far more comfortable than Dream had imagined it to be. It was still the first time they had seen each other in real life. It could have all been different to their dynamic on stream, but it wasn’t. They were even closer now.
“I actually didn’t mind cuddling with you. Or sharing a bed for that matter”, Dream confessed.
George shook with quiet chuckles, his head bumping in Dream’s shoulder and neck with every rustle of his body. After he had calmed down, George turned his head, bumping his nose against Dream’s jaw in the process. He pressed a kiss there, feeling Dream’s jaw muscles tense under the sweet contact. Dream stilled in his movements as to not shy George away.
George pulled away after only two seconds too long but the both of them stayed as close together.
“Being with you in person is even better than just talking to you on discord.”
They were already confessing everything else, so they could just continue. They cuddled for a whole night and they kissed each other, not on the lips but you get the message. There isn’t much that could change their relationship now.
“It’s better for sure”, Dream agreed. “But it’s not much different. It’s still you.”
George might have melted just then and there, under the covers of a hotel bed, his side pressed against Dream’s and his head resting against Dream’s neck. Dream couldn’t say something like /that/. Not out of the blue, not when George was so close to him and it was likely for Dream to feel his rushing heart and staggering breaths.
“Dream.”
“I mean it.”
George groaned. Dream wasn’t making this easy for him. How was he supposed to keep his cool and his crush under control if Dream said something like this to him?
Dream noticed how flushed George’s face looked and how mushy he had gotten over their conversation. But he didn’t comment on it. Because it was okay for him. The blonde squeezed George’s hand reassuringly, keeping their fingers interlocked still.
“You are the best thing that has ever happened to me and I -”
George stumbled over his words which lead Dream to untangle their hands and circle an arm around George’s upper body, pulling him even closer than before. Not only their arms were brushing now. Dream’s bare chest pressed against George’s and one of George’s legs laid in between Dream’s longer ones.
“I know George.”
Another kiss was pressed to George’s temple and Dream’s arm tightened around the smaller body partly on top of his own. He drew a heart over George’s back that was only covered by his thin, ridden-up shirt.
“I know what you want to say because I feel the same way.”
