Work Text:
Seokjin has grown to learn that Min Yoongi is a man of few words.
Not necessarily in the sense that Yoongi doesn’t talk a lot- because he does, especially when he’s passionate about something- but he’s quiet in the way he loves. Seokjin can count on one hand the amount of times the younger boy told him he loved him explicitly, but if he were to count the amount of times that Yoongi had shown him his love, then Seokjin would spend the rest of his life counting.
Sometimes the actions are subtle, while other times they’re much more obvious. Whichever the case, Seokjin always understands.
In the early mornings, when Seokjin is still asleep and the sun is barely starting to peek over the horizon, he feels the way Yoongi leaves the comfort of their bed. He hears the soft patter of his feet on the hardwood floor beneath him as he shuffles towards Seokjin’s side of the bed. And despite still being half-asleep, Seokjin feels the faint press of Yoongi’s soft lips on his head. It happens every morning before Yoongi heads to work without fail.
In the evening, when Seokjin comes home after a long day at work, there’s a plate waiting for him in the fridge ready to heat up. It’s always something that Seokjin likes; always a meal that Seokjin mentioned in passing that he was craving a few days before that gets conjured up and made for him to enjoy after work. On the weekends, they cook together, working in the kitchen seamlessly, as if they’re one instead of two. Yoongi would always let Seokjin do his favourite parts; instead of cutting the vegetables (the part he dreads), he gets to cook the meat without even having to ask (even if he knows that Yoongi prefers that part just as much as he does).
Yoongi joins Seokjin on his weekend plans, even when he knows the younger boy would prefer staying in. He wakes Seokjin up to take him fishing before the season ends; he books them two spots at the PC cafe in the expensive part of the city, planning on spending the whole day there playing games together; he takes Seokjin out to the movies the night they come out, making sure the older boy will be safe from any spoilers by watching it as soon as they can, even if the genre isn’t one that Yoongi prefers (selfishly, Seokjin might love those ones the most, because then when Yoongi gets scared watching the horror films, he doesn’t shy away from cuddling closer to Seokjin’s side seeking his comfort).
Sometimes when Yoongi comes home, he’s not empty handed. Sometimes he brings Seokjin some sort of treat: a cookie, a muffin, a single slice of cake. Other times, he brings Seokjin a coffee, knowing that he’ll need the boost of caffeine on his longer days. Sometimes, he just brings Seokjin some random object he just so happened to pass by.
“It reminded me of you.” Yoongi would say, mumbling shyly with his cheeks flushed as he hands Seokjin a small stuffed animal (Seokjin keeps them all, whether it be a stuffy, or a book, or a figurine. They’re all neatly displayed around their house, even if they don’t match the decor).
There are times where Yoongi’s love is even quieter. On the days where Yoongi is feeling softer, or not as energetic, his love still manifests itself in ways that Seokjin can always spot. On those days, Yoongi would sit closer to Seokjin, always ensuring some form of physical contact with the older boy. Or he’d wear one of Seokjin’s hoodie, drowning in the garment in a way that he knows Seokjin likes to see. He watches Seokjin’s favourite K-Drama with him on the couch instead of going to bed early, resting his head on Seokjin’s shoulder as they sit in comfortable silence in their living room, with only the TV filling the silence.
Seokjin has learned that with Yoongi, love is shown more than said. Even if he tells Yoongi he loves him everyday, he still proves his words in the same way that Yoongi does.
While Yoongi kisses Seokjin goodbye early in the mornings, Seokjin kisses him good night, tucking him into the sheets or bringing Yoongi into his arms.
Sometimes when Yoongi is tired after a long day, when all he wants to do is lay down in their bed and sleep the night away, Seokjin will draw a bath for him, putting in one of those bath bombs the younger boy loves so much and lighting a candle with a comforting scent. Then once the water is nice and warm, he helps Yoongi undress, then leads him into the water. He gently wets Yoongi’s hair as the younger boy relaxes in the water. Seokjin lathers the shampoo in his hands before he washes Yoongi’s hair for him, massaging his scalp in a way that makes Yoongi nearly doze off. Then when he rinses off the soap from his hair, he brushes it out for him, then dries it once Yoongi is out of the shower and wearing comfortable clothes to bed.
Seokjin hums Yoongi’s favourite songs on the days he notices the stress painting the younger boy’s face. The hums then turn into quiet singing after he sees the way Yoongi visibly relaxes. Seokjin would continue, singing song after song that he knows Yoongi enjoys, until Yoongi eventually joins him, softly singing with him, until the both of them belting the songs at the top of their voices, uncaring of the noise they’re making.
When Yoongi is under him, lost in pleasure, Seokjin makes sure to show Yoongi just how much he loves him. He whispers the words in his ears, low and nearly inaudible; he kisses him gently, softly, with a tenderness that Seokjin reserves solely for these moments; he holds Yoongi’s hand, knowing full well how much the younger boy cherishes the more innocent acts when Seokjin takes him apart.
Yoongi gets colder than Seokjin does, especially in the winter time. Seokjin always takes Yoongi’s hands into his on the coldest days, bringing them close to his chest and keeping them warm. He makes Yoongi his favourite drink (decaf, lightly sweetened with a splash of milk), then wraps them both in a warm blanket as Seokjin puts on one of Yoongi’s favourite movies to enjoy in the evening.
Whenever they decide to treat themselves to a night out, Seokjin always orders a dessert even when Yoongi claims he doesn’t want one. He always orders Yoongi’s favourite, knowing that the second the sweet treat arrives at their table, the younger boy’s eyes will light up. The wide sparkling eyes will look at him pleadingly, silently asking if he could have a taste. All Seokjin has to do is lightly push the plate towards Yoongi for the younger boy to flash him a large gummy smile in thanks.
There are days where Seokjin just feels the need to speak his love out loud. I love you, he would say early in the morning, when Yoongi is still half asleep in his arms. I made you lunch, don’t forget to eat it, Seokjin would say once they’re ready. He would pack the food in Yoongi’s lunch box, including a little note with a positive affirmation for Yoongi to find when he opens it. It’s cold today, wear your scarf. Seokjin would wrap the fabric around Yoongi’s neck, ensuring no skin is peaking out from underneath it. Then for good measure, he’d add a beanie to Yoongi’s head, pulling it down so that with the scarf he could only see Yoongi’s button nose and kitten eyes looking up at him. I love you so much, Yoongi-yah. Seokjin would whisper in the night, when Yoongi’s fast asleep next to him. Even if Yoongi doesn’t hear him, he says it over and over again, just because he wants to. Just because he feels it so deeply, so intensely, he just needs to let it out.
Seokjin could always make Yoongi laugh. There are times where Yoongi doesn’t even have to say that he’s wanting to hear one of Seokjin’s silly jokes, or that he needs something to cheer him up. Seokjin takes one look at Yoongi’s face and knows what he needs. Those days, he uses his arsenal of best jokes. He makes impromptu silly faces at Yoongi at random times, or he makes random noises just to hear that sweet, melodic giggle come out of his boyfriend’s mouth.
They understand each other in a way that makes communicating easy. They don’t have to speak to share their emotions with one another; they don’t have to say a word at all to say what they need, or what they feel.
Yoongi doesn’t have to say those three words for Seokjin to know he loves him, and even if he says them sometimes, Seokjin doesn’t have to say the words either.
