Chapter Text
Running, sprinting, flying (FASTER, QUICKER, HURRY, SAVETHEM -)
He caught them. They're safe in his arms. Away from everything and everyone in this horrible, horrific, dangerous place... (The others said it was safe – look at what happened when he let his guard down.) He let out a quiet breath, unthinking, just holding them in his arms tightly, feeling if he were to loosen them, they would disappear.
(just like she did – because of you !
That wasn't my fault!! Shut up! Stop! You're wrong! )
He took in another shallow gasp of air; he shook lightly, so unnoticeable that you would think he was frozen if you didn't pay close enough attention.
The person in his arms blinked hard, trying to focus their eyes into seeing anything more than blurred shapes, blood trickling down the side of their head like a small stream.
(A stream – just like where they last hid from everything – Giggling played in the back of his mind, a distant memory, included in the odd happy ones in his collection of memories worth remembering – just pure joy and nothing else. He loved those moments of happiness that occurred between them. (He wants to have more of those moments.)
Humming lowly under his breath, a familiar, comforting tone they knew oh so well, they made it for each other after all, alerting the person in his arms to who was carrying them. They relaxed just barely and copied the tune, if a bit shakily, confirming that they heard the other and that they were alive. God, they were alive, and they weren't leaving him alone here in this crushing and brutal world...
(They won't
leave
him, they
promised
!

His legs gave out from under him, everything slamming back into him, like an
explosion
,
painful
and
everywhere
-
He could hear the others calling out to him; he yelled back, voice hoarse, now desperate for any sort of relief from the
agony
wracking his body. They were moving quickly towards him; he could hear their harsh breathing and rushed steps. Running? No, sprinting; they were sprinting, no different from him a few minutes before.
Since help was here... surely he could rest a little, right? Yes, that would be fair, just a tiny nap... only a few minutes though; they still needed him. So he has to wake up; he made them a promise after all...
His vision shakes, pain flowing throughout his head. He glances down at the person in his arms and gives them a light squeeze. He tilts to the side, falling; he sees familiar shoes, not even five feet away.
He smiles lightly as his eyes close; a hand makes its way to his hair, massaging it lightly.
Yes, a bit of sleep seems pleasant.

--------------------------------------
{Three months after Miyo's sixth birthday}
Miyo awoke abruptly, shooting up in his bed. His heart beating miles per second, he takes a breath now staring at his closet at the end of his bed. He snaps out of his trance at his mom's voice and the smell of food coming from the kitchen. He crawled out of bed and made his way to the pleasant aroma coming from the stove.
Miyo stumbled over to the table to settle down and wait for his breakfast after hugging his mom's legs in greeting. Once Miyo noticed his father at the far end of the table, he nodded his head in his direction, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
Soon after Miyo sat down, his mother came over to the table with food and drinks for herself, Miyo, and his father, as well as cups of tea, apple juice, and coffee. Once everyone was seated, they started to eat while having a calm conversation. Miyo was still half sleeping, so he wasn't really paying attention to what was being said.
The meal was over, and the plates, cups, and silverware were cleared away in less than twenty minutes. After using the restroom to freshen himself for work, his father called out that he was leaving and closed the door behind him leaving Miyo and his mom together.
"Miyo, go clean your teeth and get ready for school, please." His mom said.
Miyo hummed and went into the bathroom, set up his stool to arrive at the sink, and then began cleaning his teeth. While cleaning his teeth, Miyo saw that his appearance in the mirror was nearly hazy... then a little blue-formed mass showed up before his face.
Startled, he bounced back and tumbled from the stool onto his butt. The blue mass began to shape a somewhat more point-by-point appearance now with a pair of eyes and a mouth, then it shifted down practically like it was checking Miyo out, almost like Miyo was a strange creature and didn't know how to react to him.
Miyo tilted his head at the mass, and it reflected the action, if a bit off course. Miyo giggled while he stood up once more, entertained by the mass. Curious, Miyo raised his hand to check whether he could touch the mass; it drifted nearer to him, and out of nowhere, it zoomed around his arm and sat itself in his grasp. It was... soft? Definitely, it was soft and cool to the touch, practically like a water balloon; however, it was nowhere near the heaviness of one. Still uncertain concerning how the mass got into the bathroom or apartment overall, Miyo chose to bring the mass out to show his mom; perhaps she understood what the mass may be? Yes, Mom was much older than him so she should know! Racing to his mom in the lounge, Miyo held his arm out before himself delicately, as not to disturb the mass, and enquired.
"What is this, Mum? It popped out in front of me when I was cleaning my teeth!"
His mum, appearing to be stunned, answered. "You say it 'popped' in front of you?" Miyo nodded his head rapidly. "Might it be his quirk? It's quite late if you compare with the other children's quirks..." she followed off thinking.
Miyo brought his other hand up to the mass and stroked it on the top; the mass started to grin and wriggle in Miyo's grasp as though snickering. Miyo additionally began to laugh, and his hair marginally appeared as though it had been unsettled.
The mother laughed at her child and took out her telephone. She called her employees, letting them know that she wouldn't be working today; she informed her husband that Miyo potentially received his quirk, and she called their primary doctor to organise an appointment to see what Miyo could have as his quirk. (She likewise took a couple of photographs of Miyo and the little blue form on his hand giggling together; she also set it as her phone screen, but only she needed to know that.)
When they generally quieted down, his mom told Miyo to get dressed and that they'll be going to the doctors in a while. Miyo returned quickly to his room and put on a grey t-shirt, black pants, and green shoes. In the meantime, the blue form explored his room with wide eyes and an open mouth, entranced with all of his toys.
Once completely dressed, Miyo ran back to his mother, who was waiting for him at the front door with her bag thrown over her shoulder. Snatching her hand, the blue form currently chose his head as its seat, and they advanced toward the train station to go to the doctors. The journey wasn't long – just about thirty minutes; however, since Miyo wasn't long awake, he fell asleep leaning against his mother in his seat.
At the point when they arrived at their stop, his mom shook him awake, saying that they needed to get off the train. The doctor's office was just a brief stroll from the station, so the three arrived in record time, generally in light of the fact that Miyo was hauling his mother behind him so they could get to the doctor faster. They needed to wait an additional fifteen minutes until the doctors could see Miyo. He believed that holding up was stupid, but at least he had the blue form for entertaining himself. He realised now that the form looked similar to an animated ghost. His mother read one of the magazines supplied for anybody waiting for their appointment with the doctors, nurses, specialists and other medical caretakers.
"Takei Miyo? Dr Fukumoto will see you now." A light-haired lady in the medical caretaker uniform announced her name tag said she was a nurse while scanning everybody in the room.
Miyo shot up from the floor and went to the lady bouncing all over in his place, his mother following not far behind him.
The nurse led them down the hallway and halted at a door with the sign "Dr F" on it. She knocked, then bid farewell to the pair and advanced back in the direction in which they came.
The door opened, and a man in his late forties with turning grey hair and a thick moustache wearing thick glasses on the bridge of his nose and a doctor's coat greeted the pair and permitted them inside the room, shutting the door behind them, then sat down in his desk chair facing the mother and son duo, not even noticing the small blue ghost on the boy's head.
"Now that you're here, what is it that seems to be the problem?" Dr Fukumoto enquired.
"Miyo, this morning had this small blue form appear in front of him; we don't know what it is or where it came from. But I thought it might be his quirk, so I decided to check with you." His mom informed the doctor.
"Ah, I see then! We can do some tests to see if this is young Miyo's quirk, identify it, classify it and name it if this really is his quirk. Do I have your permission to do these tests?" Dr Fukumoto questioned.
"Of course! Thank you, Dr." His mom replied.
"Alright then, come with me and we can begin!" Dr Fukumoto requested while standing up and motioning to us to follow him.
oOo
Miyo felt tired and groggy, and presently his hands and legs all the way up to his elbows and knees were intangible; his shoes and socks wouldn't even stay on his feet! He did not like any of those test thingies; they sucked.
His little ghost buddy was flopped on his head, making quiet but tired whining noises and a faint frown on its front; he now also had two other blue ghost buddies floating in front of him both only slightly more energetic than himself. They had appeared halfway through the tests, but these ones had little faces with eyebrows, both now showing upset expressions; their scowls were very silly, and they looked just like animated ghosts! Miyo was right about them being ghosts!!
At this moment the doctor had brought them back to his office and was typing something about Miyo's quirk in his file or ... something like that; Miyo's too tired to listen to him explain.
"It appears that young Miyo's quirk is creating and controlling his blue ghosts, who then can possess people and objects, and he can control water just with a slightly larger range than you. He will most likely be able to increase his range with training or work.
His drawbacks seem to be becoming mist on his legs and arms, which is probably from your water manipulation quirk, and dimming of the sight and hearing senses or them becoming sensitive. It is classed as an emitter quirk as well." Dr Fukumoto explained to his mom.
"What would you like to name his quirk?" Dr Fukumoto asked.
(While the adults are talking, two of Miyo's ghosts disappear quietly after patting him on his head.)
"Will o' the Wisp? It seems fitting." His mom replied, chuckling quietly at Miyo.
"Alright, his quirk status has been updated, and all of the necessary documents have been filled out. You can head back to the lobby where the nurses will give you the paperwork you might need." Dr Fukumoto says, while getting up from his chair, Miyo and his mom close behind him.
Miyo contemplates his question a little bit and asks his ghost to tug at the doctor's medical coat, Dr Fukumoto raising an eyebrow at the boy, as if giving him permission to talk.
"D-do you think I could be a hero with my quirk, sir?" Is all that's said in a small and slightly fearful voice.
Dr Fukumoto hums, thinking quietly, trying to figure out how to answer the child.
"I say that you could; you might get some trouble from others, but I'd say you can be a hero. If you're going to put the work needed into doing so..." he trails off, only now noticing the child trembling, crying softly too.
His mother picks Miyo up, thanking the doctor for seeing them, and leaves with her son tucked into her side firmly.
As they enter their apartment, Miyo is now longing for some sleep after everything; he hugs his mom around her legs and stumbles down the hall to his room, then proceeds to climb into bed. Now buried beneath his blankets and his ghost friend, only one stayed with him and it seems like it won't leave, so Miyo is now stuck with a little buddy permanently.
Closing his eyes, Miyo falls asleep quickly, tired from testing his quirk all morning.
