Chapter Text
Vampires. Vampires in every sense of the word, not those weird people who drink blood for some sort of kink, but actual vampires. Ethan was ecstatic. His life got brighter and darker at the same time and he loved it. The new brightness of interest, and opportunity mixed in with the dark reality of the strange underbelly of what is possible in his world. To find and confront this new discovery was just as exciting as he hoped. Two, honestly three with Rory, people he never thought he would get a chance to actually connect with or even talk to came with all the mystery.
Sarah and Erica, he wondered where he stood with them. The ‘big bad’ was dead, the soul locked in some fancy box and buried in his backyard, so he didn’t know where they stood. Sarah still babysat his sister, not him no matter how much Benny said it, every Friday. And though there was talk and some ‘hanging out’ between them he wanted more.
So maybe he was wishing something supernatural would occur so they could all come together again, and maybe he was hoping Benny would do something stupid with his newfound magic so said supernatural thing would occur. Yet it was the start of September, around two weeks since the whole Jesse-be-gone, and nothing has happened. He even went as far as to ask Benny to do something and he only got a laugh and a ‘just talk to her’ in return.
He did though get the confidence to come from his hole and down the stairs on one Friday and ‘just talk to her’. It was much like the first night they met with all the nerves and jittery hands. Yet it was much easier than he expected.
“Hey.” He said with a nervous smile and half wave.
“Oh hey, there’s pizza in the kitchen if you want it.” She was sitting on the couch watching a movie while Jane seemed to be asleep on the other one.
“I, uh, actually wanted to talk to you for a second.” He walks closer, awkwardly scratching the back of his neck.
“About what?”
“What exactly are we? ” He blurted it out fast and cringed at the words.
“Are we? Are you asking me out?” Sarah looked as if she was about to laugh but hid behind an amused smile.
“What no, I just meant that after everything are we...friends?”
“Oh, I mean sure we can be friends.”
“So I can sit with you at lunch?”
“Why don’t we just stick with being friends after school for now?” Ethan sighed but nodded and then went over to join her on the couch. They watched movies until his parents got home around two hours later. Between the awkward half-touches and actual laughs, it was a good night, a great night in Ethan’s book.
He was happy he got everything somewhat cleared up with Sarah. Though he did still hope something supernatural would happen so that spark was back, that excitement was present, he was happy with just a confirmation that he and Sarah were friends, something. He only hoped that maybe they could be something a little more.
