“Trick-o-Treat!”
Bruno smiled at the two 5-year-olds that showed up at his bedroom door. Camilo was a swashbuckling hero, Flynn Rider and Mirabel was an adorable butterfly, face painted to match her blue ensemble.
Casita was a big hub for trick-o-treating, everyone with a room having a theme or candy to entertain children and adults alike. Usually, he would just hand out candy, but this year… well it was called trick OR treat.
Sparking his eyes to life with bright green, he held his hands out and let the air around him pick up only enough to give the two a little fright.
Camilo dropped his bag of candy, screaming as he ran away from his tío’s trick down the tower stairs with his arms above his head. Mirabel became wide-eyed and smiled brightly, “Cool!” Bruno stifled his urge to sigh tiredly. He should have know she wouldn’t find this scary at all. Oh, well. At least he spooked Camilo.
“Don’t worry, Mirabel! I’ll save you!” The child in question’s voice sounded in the hall. He stood at the bottom of the steps, shaky and clearly terrified. But, he had to admit, it was cute that he came back to rescue his prima, the braver of the two. Suddenly, he stood in front of Mirabel with his back to her, trying his best to be intimidating.
“I don’t need saving, Cami! It’s just Tío Bruno fooling around. Look at his eyes!” she pointed back and hopped in front of him. When she turned back around, she was disappointed to see Bruno had already dropped the scary mask and was awkwardly holding out a bowl of candy. “Aw, man. Change back, Tío!”
“No! Uh, d-don’t you want candy instead?”
“Can’t we have both?”
“He’s busy! Right, Tío?”
Bruno laughed light, “Whatever you say, kiddo.” He gave a wink and filled their containers to send the pair off.
They walked down the stairs Mirabel grabbing his hand, “Thanks for trying to be a hero anyway, Flynn.”
She gave him a peck on the cheek, making Camilo freeze in place. Her giggling echoed throughout the hall while she ran off with her candy.
Camilo looked back at Bruno, cheeks bright red and swallowing heavily. Without a word, he turned to run in the direction of his damsel that was no where near in distress.
Bruno smiled warmly, already knowing the future of the two due to an involuntary vision.
It was cute to see they were getting started early.
