Merman Gregory era

Summary:

Just a curious merman Gregory. He just wants to know about the outside world and law.
I wrote this at 2 am in the morning. Idk what I'm doing. It's just Gregory and Badd being idiots.

I also ship Byrne x Gregory but we'll see how this story goes. If people even read it.

Notes:

Please don't kill me for writing such a shitty fanfic. I can't write.

Work Text:

Going to the beach at least twice a week was never a thing for the veteran detective before. He's a busy man. There are cases waiting to be solve by him and he has absolutely no time to waste, but well. This person, no– this creature makes Tyrell Badd's heart weak and he couldn't say no to his offer. The offer? It is nothing that benefits Tyrell, really. It just benefits the creature more since he got to learn more about humans and Tyrell could learn about mermaids and mermen. But Tyrell is only interested in one merman though, and that is Gregory Edgeworth.

He had met Gregory by accident. The merman was struggling to untangle himself from some plastic bags and it was a hilarious sight to have ever been seen. The merman was absolutely losing all of his patience as he struggled more and more with them, so Tyrell lent him a hand with the condition of not telling others about the merman's existence of course.

The merman thanked him with a bright smile as he was finally free and stretches himself. The merman was beautiful and had a long wonderful black tail and only a little of black-grayish scales covering a few parts of his body.
"It's nice to meet you, I am Gregory Edgeworth. Thank you again for helping me, Mr?" He titled his head a little as he looked straight into Tyrell's eyes. Ah, darn. Is Tyrell into men now?
"It's a pleasure to meet you too, Gregory. My name's Tyrell Badd." The merman's eyes lit up at that and he wondered what's the thing that he said that was so exciting to the creature.

The merman leans closer.
"Oh, you're that popular detective the people around here are talking about then?!" Oh? Oh? Do mermaids/mermen have a law system underwater too? Why is he suddenly asking such a weird question? As much as Tyrell doesn't trust tv programs, he's sure that nothing of the sort exists down there.
"No, I am just an ordinary detective. How do you even know about me?" The merman just hummed in response and tap his fingers on his tail.

And after a moment of silence, he starts speaking again.
"I'm just curious about how humans work. So that's why I prefer to live close to the shore, unlike the others. So I'm pretty much like a lone merman." That's weird. Isn't he scared of getting caught in human's businesses? Humans aren't exactly nice when they encounter new things like Gregory. The merman let out a sigh and folded up his tail and hugged it, almost looks like a human hugging their knees.

"I know humans don't like seeing new things. They rather live in the bliss of their ignorance for the rest of their lives if it's possible, but I just want to learn more about the outside world, y'know? It's not like I can just grow legs and walk to explore, right?"

Tyrell looks at him then his tail. Makes sense. This is not the little mermaid after all.
"Mr. Badd. Let's make a deal." Why are his eyes sparkling like that? They just met like ten minutes ago and this merman is already trusting him this much to make a deal? Tyrell should advise him about how trusting people too fast is bad for him. The detective raises a hand, signalling the merman to continue his speech.
"You teach me about humans and society and I'll teach mine!" Now, why would Tyrell need to know what's going on underwater? As long as he remembers, he doesn't have any problems with any sea creatures.

It's not like he's a fisherman or something for him to learn about the deep sea. What benefits could he possibly get from this? Plus, he's a very busy man. He had no time for such a trivial matte– Tyrell regretted looking at Gregory's face that day.

And now he's packing his stuff to go visit the beach again. He must do it while he can. If a big case comes up, he'll no longer be able to keep his promise to the merman. The cases in this country are high so they don't really know what's to come next. So better teach Gregory as much as he can before something like that happens.

He's so done for. He could've turned down the offer. He could've just left the merman stuck even if that makes him look like a douchebag. He could've done so many things to avoid being tangled up in a merman's business.

He accepted it because Gregory is an interesting merman. Yeah, that's supposedly what attracts Tyrell to Gregory. That must be it. Surely, it's not his precious and beautiful smile, his slender figure and– focus Tyrell.
