Notes:

My first fan fic, no beta read, not native English speaker, done in few hours. Read with your own risk and critiques are welcome.
###abandoned for the time being. I'm not comfortable enough to write multi chapter at this skill level. I'll try to write smaller story first, and if I'm feel good enough I'll come back to this again.

Chapter 1: Meet Matt Murdock

Chapter Text

Matt starts regaining his consciousness. There's unfamiliar feeling that surrounds him. If he feels groggy when wakes up, he knows he's overslept in the office. Meanwhile if it's the pain that he gets, that means the morning after his night activity. Right now, he feels nothing. The air is very room temperature with no fluctuation, no draft that gently touch his skin. With a tap to armchair, he confirms that his hearing is still beyond normal. He continues tapping in rhythm, creating a series of soundwave that he thought will help his echolocation. It certainly does, but just creates more confusion in his head. How can a place this calming, and the images that formed is still the world on fire? Everything is on fire. The desk in front of him, a small train ornament on top of it, a pen holder, with some pen inside of it that suspiciously doesn't smell like ink. His mind goes wonder, what is this place. He grasps his cane closer, start concentrating and tries to remember what's happen.

Deep in his thought, it is too late until he realized other people is close. He panicked and then flung his cane and hit the head.
"Sorry, I'm a little bit startled"
"No, no, that's fair. I come in too quiet. Also, knowing where you live and what you do, I understand you must be very cautious". The man slowly reaching the desk, pulling the chair then sit on it.
"What I do?"
"Well, a lawyer in high criminal area surely attracting some enemies. That place is so rotten that even with Daredevil those people still coming."

Matt takes a deep breath. Does he know that he is Daredevil?

"But don't worry, this place is only filled with peace and harmony. No more getting mugged on the alleyway. That's a funny word actually. Why is it called mug? Does the first time it happened the thief get a mug or something? We don't know."

The man noticing no words come out from Matt mouth.
"Okay, our conversation may not commence in a good way, and you look very confused. Usually people just wait outside, but with your condition I put you in the seat right away. Let me start from beginning." The man tidying up her suit, "Hello, welcome to the good place. My name is Michael, and you are dead".

All the words that he read in the bible comes to mind. Are there any Michaels mention that will greet you in the afterlife? Or this is just a hallucination?
"I don't mean to be rude but..."
"This is not like what you imagined." Michael put up a grin, "No religion has accurately described what an afterlife is. But all of their concepts are similar. Doing good deed for your life on earth, and we will reward you"

Thousand question comes to Matt mind, but he just wants to get out of here quickly.
"Sounds good to me. Are you going to give a tour of this place?"
"So, no question? Okay then. Before we go out. I need to ask you first, are you ready?"
"Ready for what?"
"Your vision, of course. We know you lose your vision since 9 and we can give you that back. Just say yes, and all your senses will become normal again. I need your verbal consent because it might get intense." Michael then whispers "Just so you know, those cabinet doesn't store any document. Just loads of tissue for case like this. The topmost drawer is already empty from earlier today when I brought a man's dog to life again."

It is tempting, to be able to see again. But what it means to be normal again? Does it will affect his other senses?
"What if I never want to be normal again? Can I keep it like this forever?"
"Well, I never encountered these but that's your decision. Just keep in mind don't sue us because we haven't made the place ADA compliant.". Michael chuckles. "Just kidding, not in America so you can't complain. " Then he speaks a bit more serious. "But really, we haven't adapted to your need so please take care. We don't know if you can die in afterlife, but I'd rather not find out."

It takes few second until someone talks again.
"Just kidding.", Michael smiles. "But I'm sorry, I have another meeting soon so I can't give you a tour right now. Maybe sometime next week? Also, with your condition I suggest you don't go alone. You should go with Janet."
"Who's Janet?"

A woman looking being appear besides Matt, with blue retro looking flight attendant outfit. Matt can't see, but he smells a bit of artificial cheeriness from her.
"My name is Janet and I'm happy to help you"
"Janet is our helper here. Just speak 'Janet' and she'll come." Michael informed Matt. "Janet, can you accompany Matt around then take him to his house?"
"Sure, Michael", she glanced at Matt. "Where do you want to see first, Matt?"
"How about straight to home first?"

She politely asks Matt if he wants to hold her hand, which Matt refused. He needs to retrain his senses again. Everything seems very delicate and mild. They go through the main road with bunch of stores open. He tries to keep his mind sharp, even though he smells the joy of fully charged battery and freshly dried laundry. It's overwhelming, but in a good way. The roads mostly made from stones and a lot of greenery. It's a good win, he thought. Most depiction of heaven have cloud like structure, and definitely won't works well with his senses.

"Matt, we have arrived at your house".
"I can't see, can you describe it for me?"
"It's not a house actually. It's an apartment building. An exact replica of yours. There's no other tenant, only you. Your room is still in the upper floor with roof access. Fun fact, this is the only appartement building in this place. Other people have their own house, or mansion"
"Ah, they got it right that I like roof access. But with no other tall building surrounding it, it won’t have the same feeling"
"From the database I know you have the big billboard in front of your window. Michael don't want to install it as I’ll disturb other resident but if you want, I'm sure he can make trick to make it looks like that from the inside."
"No, no... No need for that. Thanks Janet. You can go"
"You're welcome. Just remember, if you need anything just call me."

And with that, Janet disappears and Matt alone again. He goes into the apartment building. The aroma of Hell's Kitchen area greets him. From the smell he pretty sure there's a room with Fogwell's Gym stenciled to the door. There's no mistaken the famous Eel Beer from Josie is somewhere here. But for now, he just wants to check his room.

It's the same room as he had before. He focused on the space under the stairs. Wonders if it still there. A box is lying there. On top of that his father last robe. He doesn’t know it, but the color has been restored to its glory, shining gold with red lettering. He hugs them dearly and smells it. Below that robe is another box. He slowly opens them, and he touched something spiky. He smiles, knowing that his suit is also there.

"Hello Matt, I got a message from Michael" Janet suddenly appear.
"Sorry Matt, I forget to tell you something. Here in the good place, you won’t be alone, as everyone here has a soulmate. She also knows your address, but I think it's earth customary that male comes to female. So, you might want to go there first. Janet already knew the address"
"That’s Me!" Janet adds
"So, go on, take a shower, prepare yourself then go meet her. Bye!"

"Janet, do we have privacy here? Or Michael can see everything?"
"No, Matt, Michael can't see everything. I may be able to appear everywhere, but it will be confidential."
"Good, good."
"Matt, I assume you don't like to be seen aided by me all the time. May I suggest a guide dog to help you?"
"No, no. Dog won’t be much help." Dogs are nice, but sometimes they smell, and it'll just make it worse. "Do you have GPS to each house here?"

Janet set up Matt with a phone and GPS. He puts the address of his soulmate, plug on the headphone and go walk by himself. It's not a long walk until he arrived at the door. A small, cute house, he guesses. A stark contrast with his high-rise building. He knocks on the door. Without long wait, someone opens the door.

"Hi, I send by Michael to go here? I believe he believe I'm your soulmate"
"Of course, it is Matt Murdock" Replied His supposed to be soulmate. The sounds are familiar but its someone that he hasn't heard long time ago.
"What? Are you forgetting me? This is Marci Stahl".
