Major Regions

Kanto/Johto Regions - The Kanto region is the backbone of the UTR military, their focus on the Pokemon League challenge has made 70% of their population since the Kanto-Unovan war available for conscription. Kanto is the home of the Silph Corporation that funds the technology found in UTR warships. Due to their focus on military Kanto lacks as robust a culture as it's cousin region Johto, and it's former colony Alola. Current Regional Professor is Blue Oak and Professor Utsugi Elm, and Champion is Ethan 'Gold' Lash

Hoenn Region - The Hoenn Region is the home of most of the UTR Space facilities as well as its HQ and home of the Devon Corporation. Hoenn's military isn't as developed as Kanto/Johto, Galar, or Kalos but they are one of the planet's biggest Produce and Fish exporters and Cultural Hubs. Current Regional Professor is Brendan Birch, Current Champion is May Maple

Sinnoh Region - Sinnoh stands as the bastion of Earth culture, diversity, and affluence. One of the wealthiest regions on the planet due to its mining exports of gems, and other precious material. Sinnoh boasts the third strongest military of the Regions barely behind Unova. Is the home of the Champions Assembly Building. Current Professor is Xavier Rowan, current champion is Dawn Berlitz.

Unova Region - Unova shares a tense history with its neighboring regions of Kanto/Johto due to the 'Golden War' where Unova and Kanto found themselves at odds. Despite losing this war Unova boasts a military only slightly weaker than the Kanto/Johto alliance (Indigo Alliance). Unovan exports consist of Entertainment properties such as movies, and other media, as well as Gemstones. Home of the Unovan Stock Exchange Building. Current Professor Bianca Blair, current Champion Rosa Mei

Kalos Region - Kalos is widely considered a Isolationist Region choosing to operate mostly independently of other Regions. This resulted in them founding the Kalos PokeBall Company to keep from importing Silph, and Devon made PokeBall designs. Current Professor Augustine Sycamore, current Champion Callum Delacroix

Alola Region - A loose alliance of Islands that once were a Kingdom, tied together by their traditions, the Tapus, and mutual defense. A newcomer on the world stage Alola has only recently developed its Pokemon League, to that end it still depends on its former controller, Kanto, to defend it. Alola stands as the Third richest region due to its exports of fish, produce, and animal goods, alongside its Tourist industry. Current Professor Keiichi Kukui, Current Champion Selene Lupin

Galar Region - A region once strife with inner turmoil and split in three different states before uniting. Galar much like Kalos practiced isolationism until Mohammed Rose created the Macro Cosmo Corporation using his influence from his Electric Company he instituted the Galar League Tournament. Galar quickly became one of the most wealthy Regions due to its League's publicity, Galar also stands as the hardest Region to invade due to the Dynamax Phenomena unique to its region. Current Professor Sonia Magnolia, Current Champion Gloria Callahad

Minor Regions

Oblivia
Fiore
Almia
Ferrum

Organizations

Team Rocket: Team Rocket is one of the UTR's most notorious criminal organizations, once having stifling control over both Kanto and Johto, as well as branches in Unova and Alola. Team Rocket excelled in Black Market trading of stolen and rare Pokemon, money laundering, gambling houses, and brothels. They weren't completely taken down until their Leader, Sakaki Giovanni, failed in battle against Champions Red and Ethan.

Pokemon Rangers/N7: An elite task force of Trainers, typical operations for the Rangers consist of Regional Defense, Intelligence Gathering, and Counter Terrorism ops. Typical Ranger divisions can have around 200 members, a corps having 50, and Squads consisting of 10 trainers.

Ranks:
General - Overlooks all Pokemon Ranger Operations, works as a Military Advisor to the Pokemon Champion.
Lt. General - Insures that all Corps can be supplied, vehicles for transport are available, and decides which Corps are deployed where.
Corp Sergeant - Leader of a 50 man team.
Squad Leader - Leader of a 10 man team, usually chosen by the Corp Sergeant.

Religions:

Arceism - The dominant religion of Earth, focused around the teachings of the creator deity Arceus, this religion has sprouted many smaller sects.

Dragonistic - The second most dominant religion of Earth, most popular in Hoenn and Unova, that follows the belief of Dragon types being the dominant force in the universe. The patron god of this religion varies depending on its region, however most look to Rayquaza as the chief god of its pantheon.

Tapu - The traditional beliefs of Alola, the Tapus are held in extremely high regard as gods and protectors of Alola and its people.

Special Technology:

Teleportation Arrays: The teleportation grid created by the Silph Company is a widely available, if expensive, mode of transportation. Most models operate on building wide scales, being able to Teleport from one floor to the next instantaneously. Arrays however are limited in that they are only 'keyed' to each other, so an array will only get you to one location and back.

Rotom Tech - Rotom Technology was the brainchild of Professor Kukui, mixing Aether Tech with the upgrade ability of Rotom created a near perfect AI. Rotom Tech has made automated transportation, and automated warfare, much more seamless as it can react much faster than the human body, find problems and remedy them before they would be noticed, and make decisions due to its own sentience.

Ultra Spacian Tech - Due to the Ultra Necrozma event the Ultra Spacians have opened embassies on each region sharing it's technology for support in restoring their home, and open borders. U.S Technology allows for wormhole generation, meaning whole fleets could travel thousands of light-years in seconds, however the UTR haven't found a way to implement this tech in its warships as of yet.

Chapter 2: Meeting the Neighbors

Chapter Text

Steven absolutely hated spacecraft. Rather ironic that a Pokemon Trainer that specialized so heavily in the Steel typing would find a shell of the stuff so distasteful but such was his truth. Something about the StarCraft felt too void, too sterile for the petrologist. He loved the dirt, how he, Aggron, and Metagross would excavate whole swaths of land to find the mysteries of Hoenn's past. The discovery of the Primal Mural was his greatest pride in his Archeology work, that very mural's discovery having played a role in saving the world.

Now he was aboard this cramped vessel headed to Shanxi to look over a newly discovered anomaly on the planet. He was rather cross as this had taken him away from his studies of Eezo, especially to a Kanto colony, but May had asked him specifically to look into it, and he could never deny his protege much. A fond smile graced the silverettes lips, May was his pride and joy, an amalgamation of her and his efforts put together into Hoenn's greatest champion and the spearhead of humanities' next leap into the beyond. To believe he had almost given the champion position to Wallace just to escape the responsibility, May had proven to be worth the headache of inter-regional politics.

"Champion Stone, we are arriving in Shanxi soon," Steven looked at Captain Williams nodding his understanding, "Quite the beautiful planet, when it's fully developed Earth might finally have some competition yeah?" Williams said, smiling at the greenish pearl in the distance. Steven couldn't help but agree, from the Holo-vids of Shanxi it was proving to be quite the bountiful world. Pokemon attuned with nature thrived here, Grass and Fairy types experienced unnatural booms in population. It took much to keep Erika from abandoning Celadon City; apparently Red had to offer her some rare grass types native to Alola.

Steven noticed a collection of Recon ships readying to activate the nearby Shanxi relay and he couldn't help but marvel just how far Human and Pokekind have come. "Ah yes the exploration fleet, they'll be leaving shortly, regrettably we won't be able to meet Mr. Lucas." Steven smiled as he thought of Lucas Berlitz, husband of Sinnoh champion Dawn Berlitz. The man was making great strides in astronomy with the help of Team Galactic's former research, his work having found Shanxi, and Alpha Centauri B with amazing speed. Steven watched as the convoy jumped through the relay wondering just what they may find.

Shanxi was even more beautiful on foot, the lush vegetation of every color one could conceive, the gargantuan trees that would make an Alolan Exeggutor jealous, even the various waterways that snaked through the untouched jungle. Yes, Shanxi was a jewel waiting to be explored. He watched as the human and Pokemon crew went about the terraforming project, grass types willing the trees into less chaotic formations, water types and ground types rerouting rivers and leveling land to found the new city, and the humans setting up the teleportation array for travel back to Earth.

"Champion Stone, it's an honor sir!" Steven looked down the path to see a young man, perhaps around 18 at best, standing with two other men wearing a long white coat usually found on research aides, "Thank you for coming on such short notice, but your input in this discovery could be pivotal in deciphering just what these are." Steven was hurriedly swept away into the clearing that led to a massive, black fortress-like structure. His breath caught in his throat as he looked at the weathered black stone that made up the ruin, it was beautiful and unlike anything he had ever seen. "Gorgeous isn't it, it's design is foreign to anything the UTR has in its database, not Human, Poke-kind, not even Ultra Spacian."

Steven frowned as he walked to one of the massive walls, runes etched across the walls in oddly familiar script that he couldn't quite place, "If you called for me then you had to have found something that requires my expertise in specific." This statement was met with the researcher bringing forth a black rock.

"This little beauty is from the meteorite that contained Deoxys, watch how it reacts to the runes." He brought the stone closer to the wall and with a faint blue hue the runes glowed and the stone trembled as if alive, "This has a connection to Deoxyz, I'm sure you understand now right?"

-

"Jump was successful, Relay Drift above normal, opening channel to Command Center." The pilot of the SSV Annabelle spoke as a holographic version of Cynthia appeared above the navigation map.

"Champion Cynthia, this is Lucas Berlitz reporting successful jump from the Shanxi Relay," Cynthia smiled at the former assistant of Professor Rowan, the young man was so formal even to those that he knew didn't want it, " We will begin a survey of the new system, have the Ultra Spacians picked up any additional readings of Ultra Wormholes?"

"No, however they are sending an Ultra Recon Fleet to help pinpoint where the Ultra Beast may be," Cynthia reported. She, much like the Alolan champion, didn't like Ultra Beast readings so close to such an underdeveloped colony as Shanxi. If the Ultra Beasts caught on to its location they could very well raze the budding colony to the ground before reinforcements could be teleported in. She saw the remains of old Ultra Spacians cities, destroyed by Pheramosas, or nearly completely consumed by Guzzlords. She wouldn't see that happen to any Human colony.

"Ultra Wormholes spotted sir!" Lucas paled as the pilot brought the convoy to a halt, looking out the window he spotted at least 10 Ultra Wormholes open each one spitting out a horde of UBs.

"Cynthia, warn the Ultra Spacian Fleet, a UB invasion is happening, I repeat a UB invasion is happening!" Lucas hurriedly, "What is that in the distance, are they fighting something?!" A swarm of UB Stingers were attacking something that was trying to battle back but seemed to be losing, "Get the UTR fleets out here, the UBs are attacking what seemed to be aliens!"

"Denied, our fleets are going to be orbiting Shanxi to see to its evacuation and defense, we can't afford to lose our fleet in this new star system." May spoke, "I will contact someone who can help you and the U.S Fleets."

-

Captain Athurius hated the Relay 314 posting. It was a massive waste of Turian manpower that could be better used bringing order to the attican traverse, however the Solar Scares had the council spooked and whatever it was that caused that was somewhere beyond this relay. So the Hierarchy decided that his fleet was the best option to send to this boony of a sector, spirits even the Batarians and Qurians didn't bother to travel here and those fools were the scum of the Galaxy.

"Sir, we are picking up some strange readings from the sensors." Athurius frowned as he looked at the reading in front of him, something was happening, something unprecedented. He wasn't prepared for his Cruiser to be rocked violently as all around his fleet strange tube-like things seemingly ripped open space, "Are those...wormholes?!"

"Dammit, man the weapons, we are being attacked!" Athurius quickly rallied his men to their stations as the shields of the fleet were assaulted by creatures pouring out of the wormholes, "All ships this is Captain Athurius, open fire on alien life forms, I repeat open fire!" Almost instantly the fleet began firing on the flying creatures as they spat strange biotic attacks at the ships.

"Captain Shields are down!" Athurius turned so quickly he could feel his neck strain, "The attack they use seem to be Acid based as well as some unknown energy that is sapping away at the shields, ships are reporting holes in their hulls the acid is extremely corrosive!"

Athurius cursed, he was not prepared for this and now his fleet was about to fall. Worse yet word hadn't been sent to the Hierarchy yet and most likely wouldn't reach them till too late. "Spirits help us!" as he finished this phrase a brilliant green light flooded space as something tore through the hordes of creatures. Athurius could only watch in fascination and horror as some green lizard that made a Thresher Maw look tameable roared at the creatures pouring out the wormhole.

"Sir, an unknown fleet is in the distance!" Athurius saw a rather small sized fleet of unknown design descend on the battlefield and begin battling the creatures.

"Brzzt, Hello can you understand me?"

-

Captain Temus of the Strike Squad smiled as his fleet fell on the invaders with a vengeance only the Ultra Spacians could. His people were terrorized for generations by the Ultra Beast, there wasn't a Ultra Spacian alive that knew what life was without their aggression, and due to this they were the best combatants against them. "Ready deployment of Strike Craft and Naganadel Attackers!" A flurry of movement was his answer as he saw his ships fire on the UBs with abandon. Slug after Slug fired, completely eradicating some of the Stingers in the resulting explosions.

"Strike Craft are deployed sir, ending bombardment with the main guns." He nodded as he looked at the swarms of ships now pouring from each battle cruiser, possibly hundreds of ships and Naganadel swarming the UB invaders, "The Humans seem to have called on their own help, Mega Rayquaza is assisting but Champion Cynthia advises caution."

"Heed her words, no reason to get ourselves blown up, focus the main gun on the Wormhole, hit it with everything and throw in more!" He watched as all the cruisers turned their guns on the wormhole and began to fire, hoping the sustained damage to the beast keeping it open would force them to close it soon. He smirked when Rayquaza fired a Dragon Pulse into one and it closed near immediately after, 'Wish we had one of those things on our side of the wormhole.'

"Sir, the Humans and Aliens are retreating through the weird gate, we are all clear to fully engage." He nodded and ordered all ships to come through. He could feel his ship rock lightly as tens of wormholes erupting open around his fleet and the U.S Grand Fleet came roaring through.

"All ships, open fire!"

-

Lucas watched in an almost sadistic appreciation as Mega Rayquaza laid waste to the UB invaders, it seemed the Lord of the Skies still considered May an ally. Not long after Rayquaza inserted himself in the battle, the Ultra Spacian Fleet teleported into the star system and began to attack the UBs. "Rotom can you contact the aliens, they may need assistance." Rotom happily nodded as it sent some of its plasma to hopefully 'possess' the alien ship.

"Integration complete Lucas, Codex of alien language found, cross referencing with Human language: Translation capabilities will be available in 5 milliseconds, translation available, do you wish for me to establish contact?" Lucas nodded and waited for, hopefully, a peaceful reception. Soon in the place of Rotom, a hologram of a creature whose face seemed a mix of Human and Skarmory appeared.

"I am Captain Athurius of the Turian Hierarchy, captain of the Endless Dawn Fleet, I wish to thank you for the assistance, Captain Berlitz." Lucas nodded to what he believed to be an avian creature.

"Your ships are in bad shape, they aren't made to take the corrosive attacks of UB Stinger scouts, our nearby outpost of Shanxi could be used for dry dock repairs." He looked at Rotom, "Champion Cynthia, I am asking permission to dock with Alien lifeforms on Shanxi for repairs."

"Permission granted, hurry and get yourselves out of there, Rayquaza isn't afraid to attack his 'allies'," Cynthia's voice spoke and just as she said so Rayquaza roared as he sent Dragon Pulses into the Ultra Wormholes destroying a couple. The power of Legendary pokemon was truly terrifying, and the Galaxy only got larger with these 'Turians'.

-

Athurius looked around the small city in awe, while it still had much of the planet's sprawling forest on its border he could see it quickly being manipulated into a manageable form. These Asari-like aliens seemed to prioritize building with nature, only uprooting what stubbornly stood its ground; this wasn't what impressed the Turian captain, it was the creatures they worked alongside. So many different species walked, some even floating, beside the 'Humans' working together to build what Athurius could see becoming quite the hub of society.

"This is amazing, these primitives could prove to be quite the boon to the Hierarchy." one of his soldiers said as she too looked around impressed at the growing city, "These teleportation arrays they possess will change logistics management, imagine how quickly they must be able to deploy troops!" He nodded, the teleportation arrays alone could cripple pirate operations in the Terminus systems, with enough time it could possibly weaken them enough for the Citadel Alliance to finally claim the star systems.

"Then it is our top priority that we keep a good impression, once our comms are back online we can request evac and diplomats." He said to his remaining troops, an odd band of 45 Turian men and women. He noticed uniformed Humans walking towards his crew and stepped forward to address them.

Quickly a dark skinned man stood in front of him and opened a wrist device, to his surprise a hologram appeared from it and spoke in perfect Turian, "Brrzt, Hello welcome to Shanxi, I am the Rotom under service of Kanto Pokemon Ranger General Jason Haggen, I will act as the translator of the upcoming meeting between our people." He nodded worriedly at the hologram, hoping that these humans hadn't made the same mistake that the Quarians did. Quickly his group fell in step with the human group and he found a quick appreciation for them, much like the Turian they seemed to appreciate time and wanted none of it wasted. Fast and efficient, they would most definitely be a worthy addition to the Turian clientele.

-

"Explain why there are Aliens on Shanxi Cynthia!" Cynthia and Dawn sighed as the holographic form of Ethan Lash appeared on the central console, his face marred with an annoyed scowl, "As far as I remember Shanxi isn't Nova and Sinnoh has no jurisdiction over it." Dawn put on her best smile, hoping to put an end to what could become a regional incident before it could get worse.

"Hello Gold, yes these 'Turians' were stranded fighting a UB horde, we couldn't leave them to that fate." She gave him a hard look, "Surely you would understand how bad the UB can be." His frown lessened but was still there, "General Haggen is there, he will contact you soon I'm sure." That seemed to give Gold relief, Haggen was a good soldier and he trusted him to keep Shanxi safe.

"What game are you two playing, this isn't something you would normally risk, annoying Kanto was always something you sought to avoid." He asked, looking at the two women. Cynthia this time spoke,

"This is the first actual sign of alien life we've seen besides the Protheans, we're hoping to keep relations civil, especially since the UBs are becoming agitated again," she brought up a map of all recent wormhole sightings, "They are priming for another invasion and we can't be at war when that happens."

Gold nodded but his scowl returned, "Be that as it may Shanxi is still under Kanto law, as such you will run anything dealing with it by me before you make any decisions." With that he canceled his call bringing a scowl to Dawn's face.

"What a brute, why did Red give up the title again?" Cynthia laughed at her student, Dawn and Ethan couldn't be further from equals. Dawn was a diplomat at heart, she liked battling and excelled at it even but she loved the war of words more. Ethan much like his mentor Red enjoyed a good fight, he knew that Kanto's reputation was that of a brute by many of the regions but he wouldn't allow for his region to be swept aside either. She admired that strength really, even if it got in the way at times.

"Red wasn't much better Dawn, while he was silent he knew he was the strongest champion and he made sure we knew it too," she smiled nostalgically, "He and I butted heads many times over decisions regarding the PWT, Kanto will always be bullheaded but they are allies." She put her hand on Dawn's covered head, "Now let us make some friends, yes?"

Chapter 3: Events on the Horizon

Chapter Text

Codex Entry - STG Agent's report on the United Terran Regions (UTR) government: 'The various Regions of the UTR are by all means Military Juntas, while usually this form of governing is prone to corruption the various regions of Earth have proved capable of avoiding dictators. Most regions operate similarly with the Gym Leaders protecting the leagues interests in most major cities, Gym Leaders report to the Champions Council, or Elite 4, and they answer to the Champion. A simple line of communication, and when reinforced with their communications very unlikely to be tampered with.

While the Regions run similarly their ideologies couldn't be further from united, like the Volus and Krogan clans each region has its own agenda: Sinnoh plays the political game much like the Asari, are more likely to stangle its opponents coffers than their soldiers. Kanto loves shock and awe tactics, overwhelming military force and vassalization, approaching them with caution is advised. Unova plays to the people, branching its culture and media into the world, and should war happen they can influence civilian support. This tactic would have little effect on Turian or Salarian morale but could disrupt an Asari war effort enough to make them claim neutrality in any conflict.

Threat Level: Caution'

I could really use a strong drink right about now. Shanxi was supposed to be a quick stop to make sure the teleportation system was operational and keep Steven safe. Now I had to deal with an imminent UB invasion, and these 'Turians'. I had Kanto researchers working alongside the engineers to figure out just what made the turian's ships click, however their own engineer was being watchful of what she allowed us to access.

Luckily none of their currently available systems seemed to be able to detect a Rotom, and the mischievous pokemon was quickly compiling any information available on their surviving onboard systems. Whatever data wasn't corrupted beyond Vesta's ability to repair was being sent to Champion Lash's terminal, and the Kantonian Ranger Database. I was more interested in the aliens than their technology however, it was bizarre seeing aliens so dissimilar to Pokemon.

Humanity had dealt with aliens before, Beheym and Elgym, the Staryu line, even Deoxys. None, other than the Ultra Spacians, looked so human. It was unnerving knowing that another space faring civilization was out there, in our galaxy, and we had only recently achieved spaceflight. What wars were waged while we toiled away on Earth, ignorant to the greater galaxy. What could've Human and Pokemon been subjected to had we not achieved spaceflight before first contact.

These Turians raised many uncomfortable questions in my mind, my gut twisting in apprehension at what the regions of Earth could have endured. Now was the time to focus, the Turians are stuck here helpless for now, and the Ultra Beast are the true threat I should direct my forces at. "Vesta, show me patterns of previous Ultra Beast invasions." The Rotom had an affirmative reply before a map of Earth appeared, it quickly zoomed in on Alola and a red dot appeared where Ultra Wormholes were spotted.

"Ultra Beasts, while extremely powerful, seem to lack any rhyme or reason behind their attack patterns when not led." He watched at a wormhole tore open on Melemele Island and a horde of Buzzwoles confronted Kahuna Hala and Hau, "Certain Ultra Beast however possess enough intelligence to lead armies of lesser Ultra Beast, these being: Nihilego, Necrozma, and Eternatus, we suspect Solgaleo and Lunala also possess this ability.'' Vesta showed Ultra Spacian footage of the aforementioned creatures leading some of the lesser Ultra Beasts. "When led Ultra Beasts usually target areas with large populations, as Shanxi's only city Maroon Town is the most likely to be attacked." A ruin of an old Ultra Spacian colony was now displayed, the buildings that still stood a testament to the engineering talent of their creators.

"So brutal urban warfare, we can't afford to lose the town, if we lose Maroon the teleportation arrays would be out of our control and we'd be Wooloo for the slaughter." I looked over the layout of the budding city, with the help of Ground type Pokemon temporary barricades could be raised to great choke points, "Call all Kantonian and Alolan Ranger Forces to Shanxi, also notify the Indigo and Alola leagues that all 5 Badge and higher trainers are to be conscripted, Alola is to send anyone who has passed their second Islands Trial, have any other regions offered assistance?"

"Yes Mr. Haggen, Sinnoh and Hoenn have begun mobilizing forces for teleportation to Shanxi; they merely await Champion Lash's permission to proceed." I nodded and created new pins on the map labeled Sinnoh and Hoenn forces. Yes this could work, the garrison of Shanxi was a skeleton crew of 50 trainers but with the incoming reinforcement and proper planning Shanxi had a true chance of repelling the invaders.

"Sir, Turian Captain Athurius wishes for an audience." I frowned, why did the alien want to speak with me, I nodded for Vesta to allow him in.

The door to the office slid open with a hiss revealing the dog-legged humanoid, his suit concealing his body from head to toe to protect him and his crew from any potential human illnesses. The man saluted to me before speaking, "First I want to give you my thanks, had your people not interfered my whole fleet would have been lost to those creatures." I smiled at the man and beckoned for him to sit to which he obliged, "That however brings me to why I'm here, these 'Ultra Beasts' as your species calls them completely decimated a Turian fleet with minimal to no losses, they are a galactic danger not seen since the Rachni or Krogan.'

I didn't recognize what a Krogan or Rachni was, but if the captain so readily compared them to an Ultra Beast I didn't want to know. Just what the galaxy needed, homegrown eldritch abominations. "The Turian Hierarchy needs to know to be on guard should these creatures show up in council space, I would ask for any knowledge on these creatures's weaknesses and help with repairing our ships comms system."

I smirked, "That's unnecessary, tell me how would your people like to repay that debt now?"

Dulse silently poured over a report from the recent skirmish in the sister dimension, the grand fleet left the battle relatively unscathed. A great moral victory in a war that left a once sprawling empire clinging desperately to one planet. The planet was the pride and joy of the Ultra Spacian Empire, an ecumonopolis of it's like the twin dimension have never seen, now the bastion of a dying torch of a long dead empire. He looked balefully at the tower that once held the creature that powered the planet, Necrozma, the living Dyson sphere.

One being single handedly toppled us, forced us into conditions lesser species would have died under. How many Ultra Spacians hadn't seen their homeworld, what he liked to think was once a beautiful jewel like Earth now a frozen sphere in the void. How many hadn't felt the warmth of the sun, the orange waves beating off their ice blue skin. How many hadn't even known peace, without the threat of Ultra Beast invasions finally breaking the defenses of Megalo.

"Excuse me Mr. Dulse, incoming communication from Earth." Dulse sighed as he switched to the holo-caster function on his tablet. Three holograms appeared, two being people he recognized, and one a rather strange looking Pokemon, "Champion Lash, General Haggen I expected to hear from you but this was much sooner."

"Good morning, Squad Leader Dulse, I would like to introduce you to Admiral Athurius Valentius of the Turian Hierarchy." The Turian gave a salute, "Your fleet assisted in their rescue from the recent Ultra Beast skirmish in our dimension, and we'd like to ask one more favor."

Dulse nodded, pouring himself some water from the nearby pitcher, "The Ultra Spacian's will help in any way we can, however we can't send more military aid as we still have to defend our own planet from Ultra Beast incursions."

Ethan smiled, "This won't require a fleet merely a ship big enough to carry the Turian crew and a diplomat from each of our nations, we plan to contact the Turians but we need your Wormhole tech to do so." Dulse leaned forward as he looked at the star map provided by the Turian Captain, the wormhole to Palavan wasn't impossible, in fact it would be trivial. The problem is how would he sell this to the Elder Council, getting them to allow the Recon Squad to contact the Aether Foundation required so much tooth pulling that he knew that he wouldn't be able to pull it off again.

"I won't be able to get this approved, but Captain Athurius can petition the Elder Council in person, his presence could sway them to more open negotiations." I began typing, readying the request for an audience with the Elder Council, "Does this work for you Captain?" The Turian nodded.

"Sir Shanxi has been completely evacuated of civilians, forces from Earth are teleporting in and awaiting orders." I nodded as I poured over the map in front of me, this would be the last chance to plan before contact and I wouldn't waste it, "Champion Berlitz has sent Bertha to lead her forces while Alola has sent Nanu."

"Fine, give them the key to our comms, tell them two of my Ranger Corps will hold Main street while the other two assist the recruits with holding the West and East quadrants." I began playing the simulation of how I hoped the battle would play out, "A sustainable defensive position, we'll hold them down at Main, while hopefully Nanu and Betha can flank the West and East attackers before finally nailing their coffin here on Main."

"Sir, this plan is risky, asking two squads of non-military personnel to hold two points of high enemy contact is asking for a mass rout." Haggen nodded to Vesta.

"It is a risk, however they are led by two extraordinary generals, Williams and Shepard will hold. They have to."

Athurius hadn't expected the meeting with the Ultra Spacian elder council to go as smoothly as it had. Captain Dulse had seemed extremely concerned about their willingness to interact with a new species that weren't the humans, but they agreed to Dulse's plan with minimal push back. He and his remaining crew were being loaded onto an Ultra Spacian craft that Kera had retrofitted with a communications system from one of his fleet's surviving frigates. Hopefully with the IFA from the Endless Dawn pinging from the Ultra Recon fleet Palavan command would see fit not to blow them out of orbit.

"Captain Athurius, things are finally ready and Earth has sent their diplomats, are you ready to take your people home with some new friends?" the captain of this fleet, a small girl barely reaching his thighs known as Zossie said with bubbly cheer. He wasn't sure how a child, who couldn't possibly be in the major years of her species, could be trusted with such a vital mission yet Dulse trusted her. She seemed to rock from the balls of her heels to her toes as she excitedly waited for an answer.

"Yes Captain Zossie, I thank you for what you and the Ultra Spacians are doing, the Hierarchy will not see this go unrewarded." He said trying to ignore the weird feeling of addressing such a young looking being as an equal. Zossie however took it all in stride as she waved off his kind words.

"Our people are hardly doing this out of humanitarianism, the Humans have been a huge boon to the Ultra Spacians and the Turian Hierarchy, with this Citadel Alliance of yours, could prove to be the power to swing the war against the Ultra Beast back into our favor." To hear such words spoken with a childlike innocence was disconcerting but Athurius figured everything about these new aliens would be so, "Now enough dallying about, the wormhole generator isn't gonna get anymore accurate with time."

Athurius nodded and made sure his Omnitool was sensing the Endless Dawn's IFA signal, hopefully the Primarch was in a listening mood. "Captain Zossie Wormhole drives are primed and ready, waiting for your orders."

"Open the wormhole, let's greet the Greater Milky Way galaxy." Athurius felt the ship unexpectedly rock as it ripped a tear into space-time, a beautiful sea of color as a rim formed and on the other end he could see Palavan and its moon. It was so surreal seeing his Homeworld so close yet knowing he was in a different galaxy from it all together. Quickly he typed away at his Omnitool hoping to get in contact with Palavan control before they mobilized for invasion.

"Palavan Command, this is Captain Athurius Palandros of the Endless Dawn fleet, this is a First Contact situation, do not fire." He prayed to the spirits that the wormhole wasn't interfering with his transmission and released a sigh of relief when he received a response.

"Captain Palandros, we thought you and your fleet were destroyed, send any information you can about this species and inform them to remain on their side of the anomaly." Zossie nodded and relayed the order.

"Now we wait."

"This is amazing and concerning." Primarch Keldros couldn't help but agree with the Primarch’s assessment, he and his council had spent the last twenty minutes looking at the information supplied by Athurius and it painted a grim picture. These Humans and Ultra Spacians while not seeming to boast much of a space fleet would be a terror comparable to the Krogan on the ground. Many of his colleagues, including himself, had expressed disbelief at the notion of these ‘Pokemon’ and ‘Ultra Beast’, but the UTR supplied video evidence of their existence also showing some of the damage that the Ultra Beast had done not only to what remained of the Endless Dawn fleet, but also remnants of the Ultra Spacian Empire.

“These creatures made an entire Turian fleet look like it was patched together by the Quarians, spirits Athurius even reports that the enemy faced no casualties until the Ultra Spacians arrived.” one Primarch spoke his mandibles twitching as he tried to think of a way to battle such an enemy, “Not to mention that these creatures appeared in Council territory, what would be our fate if they appear on Thessia, Surkesh, or worse Palavan and the Citadel itself.”

“They could single handedly cripple the Galaxy and we wouldn’t have the power nor speed to defend what they take, our own extinction event.” Keldros said slowly, the thought filling him with dread. The fact that the Ultra Spacians had been fighting them for hundreds of years, and only had one planet to show for their sacrifices terrified him. They had technological parity that the Turians and much of the Milky Way lacked, especially with these Humans and Pokemon now standing as their allies, yet they still hadn’t made any significant progress besides battling the Stellar Devourer to a standstill before containing it.

“Perhaps they are hoping to flee their Galaxy, let the Ultra Beasts claim the Cigar Galaxy until we can assist them in its reclamation?” Keldros shrugged, not willing to try and predict an unknown species, especially one that wasn’t even native to the Galaxy.

“We won’t know unless we open communications, inform the Citadel of the First Contact so the Asari and Salarians can send diplomats, until they arrive we shall be the voice of the Galaxy.” the others nodded and Keldros sent a message to Athurius to key the other species into the comm system. Not long after three holographic figures stood one being Athurius himself and two who were bipedal one resembling an Asari with fur and something protruding from the sides of their heads and the other was covered head to toe in a suit much like a Quarian, all he could notice was the ice blue skin.

“Hello representatives, I am Primarch Keldros Tiberius of the Turian Hierarchy, I speak for the Turian people alongside my council.” he gestured to the men and women sitting around him. The asari-like creature nodded before speaking.

“Hello Primarch Keldros, I am Caitlin Shirona member of the Unovan Elite Four and representative of the United Terran Regions, I temporarily speak for all Regions of Earth.” the woman bowed her hair seemingly floating beside her, potential biotic user Keldros thought. After her the suited person nodded and spoke.

“I am Soliera, member of the Ultra Recon Squad, I speak for the Republic of Megalo.” The woman seemed to coldly study each Turian in the room, her stare reminding Keldros of an Asari matriarch, she had influence and power he could tell, and she wasn’t above using it to her advantage. He quickly composed himself and spoke to the two women.

“Firstly I like to extend my thanks, the servicemen of the Endless Dawn will not be forgotten but due to the actions of your people their crew wasn’t entirely lost.” his fellow Primarchs around him sent Captain Athurius nods, “Captain I’d like to commend you as well, despite the odds you and your crew held and fought with honor, you did the Hierarchy and your ancestors proud with your performance.” Athurius saluted but remained silent, “Now, what brings you to Palavan?”

“As you know the Endless Dawn fleet was met with aggression from Ultra Beast invaders in the system neighboring Shanxi, or what you call System 314, this was a scouting fleet and it's the prelude to a full scale invasion.” in Caitlin’s place a map of the the galaxy appeared, “They will enter System 314 and from there they will expand their presence, their first target will be Shanxi where from they will begin an assault on Sol, our Homeworld, the concern for the Turians is what they will do once they learn of the other species in the Milky Way.” Keldros watched as the territory of the Batarian Hegemony was highlighted, “While they don’t use conventional space travel much, they are capable of sustained FTL when not in combat and they will begin conquest on the Batarians and from there the rest of the Galaxy.”

Soliera then spoke, “These were the tactics used to break the back of our once mighty empire, our vassals were consumed, and we were left alone to battle the behemoth; this is a fate we don’t wish to see the Milky Way fall to.” she pointed at Shanxi, “The UTR is already planning a stand at Shanxi, to break the back of the invaders there, while the Republic flanks the Wormhole that will be in our Galaxy, however the Human alone don’t have the fleet to keep from getting overrun on Shanxi and will require assistance, Turian assistance.”

Keldros looked at the battleplans that had been shared, it was definitely a risky venture, it was also against Turian war doctrine to allow the enemy to invade the homefront and force yourself into a defensive war. This would be a tough sell to the Turian people if he agreed to this, not to mention that the Turian fleet was of the same make and model of the Endless Dawn and that battle went horrible. One Primarch raised this exact point to Caitlin and Soliera, “Yes the Republic and UTR understand the disadvantage Turian Shielding technology has against Aura based attacks and we’ve agreed to allow Psychic Trainers to be put under command of Turian Captains and Generals during this war, the shields they generate will protect your warships just as they did our.”

This gained Keldros’s attention, their shields were created by living beings? Biotic shielding wasn’t a foriegn concept, the Asari mastered that kind of warfare long before the Turians were spacefaring, but these shields were apparently not Eezo based but ‘Aura’. “Could you explain what this Aura is? Our species has experience with shields created by biological beings but even they aren’t stronger than the shield generated by our ships.”

Caitlin nodded, “Aura is a energy shared by Pokemon and Humans, although the amount of Aura in Humans is usually not enough to utilize in combat or day to day life, Psychic Humans are humans with abnormals levels or Aura, allowing them to use abilities usually found in Pokemon.” her eyes glowed as her hair was suspended by heart shaped energy balls, “I am one of these Humans, as for its strength, Aura barriers and light screens have more potency than Biotic barriers, making them more durable but this potency comes with rarity.”

“The UTR is also willing to share its medical technology, from Medigel to our Potion line of products, the Hierarchy will surely benefit from being able to modify medicine with instant healing properties.” This definitely got Keldros’s attention, medicinal advances had been megre for Turian biology due to Salarians being the lead developers of medicine in the Galaxy, and they were focused on studying the aftereffects and potential cure for the genophage, “We’ve also like a Research Agreement outside of the one sponsored by the Citadel Council, the Turians will have the opportunity to access our Teleportation Arrays, as well as Aether and Rotom technologies although you will be forbidden from reproducing Aether and Rotom style products.”

Keldros thought over the proposals, the Ultra Beasts were an enemy the Turians would have to face eventually, if they did this preemptive strike they’d have two allies who knew how to wage war against the enemy, two allies who had tech they were willing to share to keep Turian lives safe and would make the fight less of a blood bath. Accepting however would put the Hierarchy at risk of denouncement by the Citadel Council, the Salarians and Asari were always too slow to notice a threat, and too brutal in how they suppressed one. There also was the issue of how thin spread the Turian navy was, between the peacekeeping operations in Council Space, maintaining the Krogan DMZ, and suppressing piracy leaking from the Traverse the navy had barely enough to keep the Heirarchy’s own territory peaceful.

“These terms are agreeable, but due to current circumstances we would need to add proposals for this to work, the Turian navy as it stands is stretched thin, if the UTR can send its navy to the Krogan DMZ here,” he pointed to the system that held Tuchanka, “we can free up a big enough force to act as Planetary Support, we’d also need the UTR to agree to become a client race of the Hierarchy, the Council can’t punish us if we are acting in defense of one of our clients.”

Caitlin frowned, “What would become of us if we agreed to become a client race?” Keldros noticed the rebellion hidden in her eyes, these Humans were proud like the Krogan and wouldn’t bow to foriegn influence, at least not for long.

“Client races are protectorates under the Hierarchy, for this protection they can’t declare wars on foriegn powers without our support, can’t make trade deals with foriegn powers without our suport, pay a tax of 10% of your economic surplus whether that be in Credit or Mineral good is your choice, and must abide by Council law.” he brought up pictures of the Turian client races, the two most notable being the Volus and Vorcha, “You maintain autonomy and rule over your planets, systems, and government and gain an embassy on Palavan, where you can advocate for your people, and ask for freedom if you so desire.” Caitlin frowned and spoke into her wrist device for a moment, after a couple minutes she nodded and turned to Keldros once again.

“The UTR isn’t fully prepared to becomes a client under the Hierarchy, but we ask that this agreement only be temporary, once we feel the UTR is versed enough in galactic politics and the Hierarchy won’t face reprisal for their involvement in our war we will demand our freedom, we also won’t renege on our agreement to the Republic, if you agree to these terms the UTR will become a client.” Keldros nodded, “Very well, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd fleets are being ordered to begin travel to Ultra Megalopolis where they will then jump to the Krogan DMZ, we look forward to future cooperations between our people Primarchs.”

Keldros nodded and stood to salute, “And we the Turian Hierarchy welcome you to the greater galaxy.”

Chapter 4: Short Chapter - Diplomats at the Ho-oh festival

Chapter Text

Benezia had to admit, the architecture of this city was very pleasing on the eyes. Downtown Ecruteak City sparkled in the setting sunlight, its neon signs and bright lights flickering, enticing her to come and visit. That wasn’t the destination of her group however, it seemed that their human guides were leading them to a more quaint part of the city, its buildings less packed together, the lights that supplied the district were floating red paper lanterns. It looked cozy, she assumed this was where their nighttime accommodations would be.

“If you look to your right you will see the pride of Ecruteak City, the Tin and Brass towers,” Benezia looked and saw two starkly different wonders. At one end of the district stood a majestic tower of silver panels, its peak reaching the clouds where she could make out the faint shimmer of a golden bell. To its west however laid a sad sight, a ruin of what she supposed was the Brass tower. Its blackened wooden spikes seem to want to reach to the sky, as its twin was, the tarred and scorched paneling vaguing showing what she imagined would have been a brilliant gold in this setting sun. “These towers were built as shrines by the first settlers of Johto, dedicated to the worship of Johto’s protectors Lugia and Ho-Oh, sadly about 180 years ago the Brass tower caught blaze during a thunderstorm while Lugia was away, it blazed for hours until finally Lugia arrived and ended the inferno."

Benezia looked at the tower intrigued, this was the former home of one of the Human's gods, a holy place by all accounts. Had this been a temple of Athame her people wouldn't dream of letting it be traversed by the citizens, it would be maintained by the Republic and preserved for study, "The Towers are why this district was chosen as the cultural center of Johto, you all arrived at a very fortunate time every year to celebrate the coming of the summer we throw of festival in honor of Ho-Oh, one of the biggest events of this festival is the concert by the Kimono Girls."

Benezia looked at her fellow diplomats a varied collection of Asari, Turian, Salarian and Volus, while they had learned much from traveling through Johto they hadn't learned the intimate parts of human culture, it seems this was about to change. She herself didn't buy that the Pokemon were as divine as the humans believed, perhaps very strong, natural biotics but that didn't hint at divinity otherwise nearly every Asari could boast such. She and her colleagues were let off the carriage pulled by the flaming horse creature that she recognized as being a Rapidash.

Part of her was still bitter that it was the Turians that initiated first contact with the Humans. There was so much potential in this species, as well as their pokemon companions, and Turian influence could easily shift them towards their more militarized instincts. Under Asari guidance they could have become one of the galaxy's bastions of culture and arts, a true beacon of what civilized species should reflect. Luckily Tevos saw fit to make sure Asari diplomats were some of the first, beside the Turians, to step on Human planets.

She was slightly concerned that she and her colleagues were walking so openly amongst the citizens, but to her surprise the humans that littered the streets smiled and gave friendly waves. They seemed so at ease interacting with a new species. Her guide smiled at her confusion.

"I know it must seem strange how easily our people are accepting aliens being in our midst huh," she gave a small chuckle as she looked at some of the stands selling sweets to a surprised Turian who was being led by a man and his two children, "We've had stranger occurrences in the last 40 years, people are just hoping for peace and stability, and are putting their best foot forward towards that goal." Benezia absorbed the words as she watched the same Turian take a candid bite of the sweet, getting a cheer from the child. She knew he would regret it later but she saw his mandibles twitch as he gave the Turian equivalent of a smile.

"Here we are, the Ecruteak Dance Theater!" Benezia looked at the red and orange building in awe, it was a beautiful structure even by Asari standards. The two story building felt so fantastical, the countless floating lanterns, the melodic cries of the bird pokemon, and the dress of its patrons just made the whole atmosphere feel so mysterious. The Salarians in her group animatedly chatted among themselves, pondering just what the significance of the ‘kimono’ style of dress was. “Come along, we must get seated, the show will start soon.”

Sitting on her knees was an odd feeling, luckily the mats they were supplied with were rather comfortable. She looked at the collection of human and pokemon that she sat among, to see so many varied ages taking part in such a traditional activity was bizarre. Asari maidens would have scoffed at the idea of attending this theater, instead lusting for excitement and adventure. The young humans seemed to value their traditions much more deeply at a younger age than the Asari. The lights dimmed as a woman in a red kimono walked forward.

“Lets our voices rise up like the sun, call to the heavens where the rainbow lies," Benezia listened as her voice warbled its tune, the screen on stage showing the Tin tower, the clouds obscuring the golden bell atop it. She was then joined by four other women all dressed in different colored kimonos, "Now we implore you, flaming lord of the skies, grace is with your flight, bring us heavens light!" The screen shifted and showed a bird of some kinds, the likes of which she had yet to see. She noticed small embers floating in the air and small gusts of wind as the bird flew across the screen.

"Let our voices sing of grand rebirth, flame, rain, and lightning were brought back from the fall, now we implore, bring your sacred fires to all, grace us with your warmth, grace the sacred Earth, Ho-Oh!" All the women danced together as they harmonized, the twirling of color almost hypnotic. On the last call they each held a bell, chiming it at the name of the creature.

"Good evening, and may we once again welcome you to the Ecruteak Dance Theater, I am Zuki your hostess tonight." The woman and her Umbreon both bow to the crowd, "Tonight we once again gather to celebrate the summer solstice, and pay our respects to one of Ecruteak's great protectors, Ho-Oh." Benezia watched at the bird on the screen perched on the Tin tower, "Centuries ago our ancestors, the original inhabitants of Johto, founded Ecruteak and built the Tin Tower and the Brass Tower."

The second screen lit into a cool blue as a white bird-like creature perched on the Brass Tower, "Atop these 9 story shrines our great protectors stood vigil over our region, until 180 years ago." The lights dimmed as lightning flashed across the stage frightening many of the aliens in the building, "One night lightning struck the proud shrine of Lugia, and it caught a blaze." Benezia watched in awe as the Flareon spat flames, the heat sweeping over the crowd, embers becoming more plentiful in the air.

"The Flame soon became an inferno that threatened to take all of Ecruteak along with the Brass Tower," Benezia was surprised when a Totodile hopped near her head and filled it's maw with water, about to blast what it perceived as a dangerous fire, until it's trainer redirected the water dousing himself. He gave an apologetic smile to her as he pulled his sheepish pokemon back to its seat, "Lugia returned to her burning home and called for rain, and the rain came finally extinguishing the great flames." A Vaporeon blew a torrent of water at the Flareon, who spat its flames in return. The two battled shortly before the flames were overpowered, the Flareon and its trainer kneeling in their defeat.

"Lugia, overwhelmed by grief, retreated to the sea where she now waits for someone to restore her hope." The screen showed the Brass Tower reduced to its current state and Lugia flying off, "Ho-Oh then arrived at the burned tower, for she too sensed the tragedy, and her golden gaze swept across the ruin where she found a sight that broke her heart." She watched as the Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon all ceased moving, huddled together under the screen of the burned tower, Ho-Oh circling above them. "Three lives perished in the flames, and the villagers of Ecruteak we're blessed to witness the power of Ho-Oh, for she bathed the dead pokemon I'm her flames and they rose once more, avatars of the nights event, envoys of Ho-Oh." A whirlwind picked up as embers swirled around the three pokemon and a roar was heard through the theater.

"Three souls were lost, and three souls reborn, from the ashes of destruction rose Suicune, Entei, and Raikou." A screech ranged as Ho-Oh flew off and on the screens stood three creatures, their power seeming to radiate even through this visage slightly unnerving Benezia. "The three Beast of Johto stood proudly amongst the soot and ash, but sadly this power struck fear into the hearts of Ecruteak's people, the beasts were scorned, blamed as the ones who drove Lugia away, now they roam the region, wary of humanity." She saw the beasts roar to the sky as they ran off into the sun, "To this day the great towers remain as a reminder of what was lost, and what will be again!" The women stopped their dance as they once again rang their bells, and bowed to the crowd. Benezia clapped along with the people of Ecruteak, even as she continued to watch the now swirling forms of Lugia and Ho-Oh as they seemingly chased each other.

"How interesting, a deity that can bring life, seems improbable, most likely is, but aura is a bizarre power source." One of the Salarian rattled off his observations.

"If true, why haven't humans harvested this ability, the ability to avoid death would be highly valuable to the Union." Benezia nearly rolled her eyes at that statement.

"Humanity sees this Ho-Oh as one of their gods, it's a being they wouldn't fight anymore that we would Athame should she ever show herself on Thessia, or a Turian fight one of their spirits." The Salarian frowned at that mumbling about religion hindering such a resource being foolish.

"This show could sell well on the extranet, I will have to talk to the theater director about streaming it live." one of the Volus spoke, trying to find the best ways to make credits off the humans.

Benezia was still pondering the story, she looked at the distant burned tower, trying to picture the majestic rainbow colored bird circling it. A part of her envied the humans, they still held their gods close to the bosom, a part of her wished she could find comfort in Athame as they did their pokemon. She was wrenched from her thoughts when she heard a shrill screech pierce through the peaceful nighttime ambience.

Many of the pedestrians also looked to the sky and Benezia witnessed something she would never forget. Its booming wingbeats could probably be heard in downtown Ecruteak, but she was sure no one could ignore the gleaming rainbow that streaked across the sky in its wake. Rainbow colored wings gliding so effortlessly across the sky, she couldn't help but find its moniker of 'lord or the skies' fitting.

Countless humans began to give prayers, the kimono girls themselves coming out and kneeling also giving prayers. The golden eyes seemed to pass over everyone as it flew gracefully towards its tower, Benezia caught it's eyes for the briefest of moments and felt all her worries slip away. She could feel it in her soul, this creature isn't some biotic that humans mistaken as a god, no this being was truly divinely inspired.

'Welcome, child of Rayquaza's realm, to Earth' her heart nearly stopped as a soft voice seemed to speak in her mind, but just as fast as it was there it was gone. She watched as Ho-Oh flapped its wings once more and ascended to its perch, obscured by the clouds, but she knew just as all of Ecruteak did that the Lord of the Skies had returned.

Hello, this is an idea I'm toying with. Smaller chapters, most not plot relevant, that build on how the other species interact with Humans and Pokemon. The idea of this story came from the Pokemon Evolutions episode on YouTube, this one focused on Ho-Oh instead of Lugia. The next update is gonna be an update to the Timeline chapter, fixing some issues that a commenter brought up, then it's gonna be the actual chapter 2 after that. If you got other small chapter ideas let me hear them.

‘The Creator of the Lands, made the ground on which you stand, stand beneath his blazing sun on the world which he has won! Stand against the crashing waves, for this world is his domain!’ - A hymn from the Groudon sect of the Arceian religion of Earth

Codex Entry: ‘The Upheaval’ was the 32 year span of instability in all regions on Earth. The Kanto-Unovan war weakened many regions caught in the crossfires of their war, the disruption of shipping lanes and mass loss of life caused famine and discontent amongst the populace resulting in the creation and strengthening of many gangs in the regions. Famously Team Aqua and Magma were caused by the destruction of housing complexes in Mauville City displacing many families, two being that of Maxie and Archie. The Upheaval was also plagued with gangs meddling with Legendary pokemon. The troubles ended in 2151, when Champion Gloria Callahad separated the Galar League from the Macro Cosmo corporation’s control. The seven champions are credited for the end of the Upheaval.

Desolas I

Desolas Arthurius always considered himself reliable under pressure, logical and pragmatic enough to keep a firm hold of any situation before him. He believed himself ready for all theaters of war that could possibly exist, from another Rachni-like invasion, Krogan rebellion, to the reemergence of the Protheans. This, he would realize later, was the naivety of a peacetime general. His group along with ten others had been deployed to aid the Humans in their defense of Shanxi, and the level of destruction that was on display shocked him.

If one wasn't aware of the Human's allies they'd believe that the planet itself was alive and fighting. Almost as soon as their tank landed they were attacked by white Hanar like creatures. He barely registered the acid as it burned through the hull of the tank, but the sizzle of his armor struck fear in his gizzard. He quickly took the rapidly melting vambrace off, throwing it out of the hole in the tank’s side, as the gunner tried to fire at the jellyfish creatures.

This was where he truly understood why the Humans needed the Hierarchy's help. The fake hanar that was hit by the mass accelerated round was damaged substantially, but as its last action before hopefully pershing it shot a purple beam at one of the Turian tanks. The beam of acid didn't explode on contact, that perhaps would have been comforting, it consumed the tank and when it died down there were no traces left of it, only sickly purple pools of acid.

As another beam was fired at his tank all he could think was 'This is where I die, there is no honor in a death like this.'. The triggering of the tank's seismic sensors pulled him from these thoughts, and he witnessed a scene that he knew would shape his life for years to come. Erupting from the ground, like a demented Thresher Maw, came a massive giant of what looked like metal. The silver steel glinting in the sunlight as it blocked the beam with its body, the negligible damage it sustained only seeming to anger it, as it unhinged its behemoth jaw and roared.

He heard the radio come alive with chatter, his ears still ringing from the challenging roar of the metal behemoth, "Turian Squad, this is Ranger-General Haggen, go to the rendezvous coordinate while our air support covers your retreat!" He felt the tank accelerate as the babble from the radio continued, their leader apparently understanding the alien language. Loud cracks sounded as some form of projectile was fired at the invaders, he could faintly make out the visage of a stealth fighter with a purple fin that resembled a tail.

"Damn, not even fully deployed and we've already lost good soldiers." He heard the female Turian next to him mutter, "Spirits watch over us, as we stare into the abyss." He couldn't help but shudder at the old prayer, something he'd only heard referenced during stories about the Krogan rebellions. He could still see the metal giant looming in the distance, its red eyes seeming to glow with its power.

"Turian Squad, go to these coordinates and prepare to assist the third platoon." Desolas heard his captain acknowledge the order and relay the message to the rest of the convoy.

"Alright boys, let's show the Humans how Turians wage war!"

John Shepard Sr I

John coughed as he kneeled behind the earthen barrier, the unmistakable smell of smoking gunpowder pouring from his rifle doing nothing to help him. Shanxi had become a warzone just as expected, the Ultra Beast nearly trampling each other to get to their targets, but his platoon was holding. Barely. While they approached the battle with a ferocity and valor above their training, they were still only civilian trainers, conscripts with no actual military training beside that from their trainer journey. He watched as Chanseys carried away injured trainers and pokemon, some mutilated beyond any healer's ability to repair.

He looked around at the smoldering ruin that was Maroon town and knew that the budding city would never fully recover, any thought of saving the city was quickly fading the longer the Ultra Beasts continued their assault. The buildings would be rebuilt, perhaps as tall as the clouds even, but the scars in the land itself, in its aura, would forever bear the damage from the Ultra Beast. He hurriedly covered his head as a pillar of concrete and metal was sent hurtling into their fortifications, the psychics only stopping it soon enough to not take out most of his trainers.

“Get fire on that Guzzlord now!” he roared and some of his soldiers fired their rifles at the creature that was more mouth than body. The suppressing fire from the human being supported by multiple attacks from nearby Pokemon, in particular a Hyper Beam from a Tyranitar sent the Guzzlord careening into a nearby building. “This General Shepard, we need air support asap, Guzzlords are entering the field!” He barked into his radio as he reloaded his rifle and resumed firing on an unlucky Xurkitree that entered his field of vision, the rounds punching holes in the frail creature.

“Denied Shepard, more men will be sent to reinforce you but Air Support is pinned down stopping a Nihilego swarm.” Shepard cursed as he pulled a trainer next to him down as a stinger from a Naganadel whizzed past their heads. The boy looked at the spot in shock and fear, Shepard could only pat the kid on the head and remind him he was still alive. Shepard let a pokeball from his belt fall to the ground releasing his oldest partner, the large blue tortoise with rehearsed ease settled into cover alongside Shepard and the boy as it unleashed high pressured torrents of water, rippling completely ripping through some of the less water resistant Ultra Beast, and forcing others back.

“Kid fall back until you regain your bearing,” the young man looked ready to argue until Shepard ordered a Chansey to see the boy to the infirmary. That boy was hurried away by a Chansey, the Conkeldurr acting as its guard watching their backs as they retreated further into Maroon town. He heard the ground rumble as a Pheramosa swarm found themselves trapped in a sinkhole created by the ground types earlier that day. “Get fire in that sinkhole, send them to Giratina!” On that order a squad of Charizard and Salamence took to the sky, their approach covered by the ground troop’s supporting fire, and unleashed their flames on the trapped humanoid bugs. Cheers erupted at that victory, which seemed to stagger the Ultra Beast having lost one of the driving forces of their charge. This was short lived as the ground trembled, almost like Regigigas had decided it wanted to take part in this battle. He watched in dread as the massive wall-like creatures forced their way to the front, a horde of Stakataka had decided to join the frey.

“Get Hydro Pumps on them now, don’t allow them to advance!” quickly the lines reshuffled as Water type pokemon came to the forefront and unleashed torrents of water on the beasts. Shepard grit his teeth as the Stakataka continued their vanguard, if only a bit slower from the crashing waters. “Aura Users, fire the spheres!” The few trainers and pokemon that used technique created the globes of energy and lobbed them at the feet of the advancing creatures. The explosion of Fighting Aura destroyed ground and shattered metal where they landed, staggering the advance of the Stakataka. The smell of ozone was his only warning to what happened next.

Faster than he or any other trainer could react, bolts of lightning ripped from the sky. The force of them hitting their earthen barricades threw every trainer that made the frontline back a number of feet from their cover. Shepard could barely see straight, if at all, and the ringing in his ear from the cracking of thunder further disorientated him. He could feel his muscles tense against his wishes, did he get struck? He couldn’t remember. He could feel dust enter his mouth as he tried to breath, a labor that was much harder than he remembered it being a couple seconds ago. Was he moving? He could feel skin reacting to something, like pebbles dragging along his back, it was annoying.

He felt something be put in his mouth as he was forced to chew, the striking flavor of mint waking his senses. He coughed nearly choking on the hard thing in his mouth, spitting the intruder onto the ground, the sight of a yellow diamond greeting him. ‘A revive? Was I that near unconsciousness?’ I looked at the Nurse who scowled at me, probably not a fan of me wasting precious medicine.

“What's the sitrep?” I asked, my body protesting as I tried to sit up on the ground. I could still smell ozone, even this far away from the lightning strike.

“General, we are losing a lot of ground, the trainers are beginning to break.” I looked around and saw nothing but carnage. Many trainers that stood alongside me weren’t moving, perhaps a small mercy compared to some who did survive the encounter. Screams, groans, delirious calls to men and women not among us could be heard. I felt air blow on my face and looked at my Blastoise, the sight nearly broke my resolve. He was missing an ear, the wound bleeding profusely but the stalwart creature largely ignored it. The most notable damage was the missing piece of its undershell, and the signature water cannons on its back. On hung loose, perhaps beyond repair.
“I’m sorry my friend, rest for now.” I tried to return him but as it was sent into the ball it also rejected, coming right back out. He wasn’t going to retreat it seemed. “This is General Shepard, we need support, any support asap!” The radio silence seemed to drag on impossibly long. The thumps of the advancing Ultra Beast’s feet hitting the ground only grew louder by the second. ‘I need to order a retreat, if we are going to make a last stand we need to be ready,’ I brought my hand forward to begin to issue the order, the shame I knew to come I would have to endure.

“General Shepard, this is General Vintus Lacioni of the Turian Hierarchy, my squad is in range, give us targets to fire on!” the robotic voice of a Rotom spoke from my radio and I felt a sense of relief.

“Fire on the Stakataka, stopping their advance will allow us to regroup and take out the frailer Ultra Beast!” he received an affirmative reply and got to regrouping his forces. His Blastoise roared challengingly at the incoming enemy, his cry seeming to rally the remaining pokemon, as he was soon joined by a Tyranitar who fired a Hyper Beam at the Stakataka. A torrent shot from the one good pump on its back, however this seemed to do little to stop the advancing Ultra Beast. Shepard led what remained of his men, a force that began this war 300 strong in trainers now a motley crew of perhaps 100, maybe less. His eyes widened when he saw a Xurkitree shining brightly, clouds beginning to gather overhead,

“Fire on the Xurkitree now!” He leveled his rifle and fired, just as a loud boom was heard and the form of a Stakataka shattered like a brick wall met by a sledgehammer.

Guzma I

Guzma didn’t particularly like being off planet, then again he didn’t particularly like anything either. Team Skull was his passion project, one he royally fucked up by dealing with that crazy bitch Lusamine. He could still feel the affection for the woman deep down in him, how he hated that so much. How he could easily toss aside any notion of love for his biological parents, yet the blonde lunatic still held some semblance of sway over him. Maybe that's why he was here, maybe that's why agreed to the stupid request from her children to assist the Champion’s efforts here. ‘Meri warned you that old hag was trouble, now look at you, on some radioactive dust bowl of a planet playing police, Guzma what is wrong with you!?’

He sighed and adjusted his glasses on his head, one of the last remaining relics from his time as Team Skull’s leader. He supposed all wasn’t too bad, big bad Guzma had turned a new leaf. He had new allies, and in the end his goal for Team Skull was achieved. The youths of Alola that didn’t fit the mold now had a home, had friends they could count on, none would suffer like he did. Selene made sure of that. There goes his thoughts drifting to the champion again. The girl annoyed him, not as much as Hala’s idiot grandson, or Gladion, but she definitely annoyed him.

She was the reason he wasn’t sitting in an international prison right now, oh how Agents Looker and Anabel wanted to arrest him for bringing the Ultra Beast scurge down on the world. The sour look on the Sinnoh man’s face as Selene explained my role in stopping Giovanni during the Rainbow Rocket siege on Aether Paradise. If looks could kill Guzma would have died twice over, but the Agent relented, not like he could challenge a Champion’s authority anyway. Her ‘help’ did come with the caveat that he attended ‘therapy’ sessions with Kahuna Hala, or was called Elite Four Hala now? Either way the old man was a pain, not to mention that Kakui now acted like we were best friends again. The damn move maniac always found himself coming to check on my progress, this usually resulted in us getting into a battle.

He smirked as he thought of their last bout, his Golisopod laying that annoying Incineroar out cold with his Liquidation. “Yo boss, it's getting pretty active out there man, Ion think the locals like us being here.” he looked at one of his former associates. She, like most of his former crew, still stuck around him. They even repped the red x on his old insignia that he sported these days, honestly it was endearing though he would never show it to his group of misfits. He looked outside the base supplied by the remaining Turians and what she said was true. A large number of Krogan were outside, blustering and roaring at the ‘new intruders’ as they called us.

The Turians looked concerned and he couldn’t blame them, from what he’s seen these last few days these Krogan were walking tanks. More redundant systems in place than Metagross, but he doubted they could survive without a head. He and Golisopod might end up testing that theory soon enough. “Tell the boys to get prepared, we might have a riot on our hands soon.”

“The Citadel oversteps itself again, how many times must the Krogan endure the disrespect of species barely worth more than a Pyjak!” the assembled Krogan roared in agreement, “I, Uvenk of Clan Gatatog, will not stand idle as another species puts their boots to our necks, Clan Gatatog will not spit on the history of the Krogan by not meeting this invasion of our planet with blood and smoke!”

“Charismatic one ain’t he?” Guzma said to the Turian General next to him who nodded.

“Not many Clan leaders could unite this many different clans under one goal, this Uvenk is dangerous to Galactic peace if he can spur the Krogan clans to come here armed.” He pointed to the different colors on the armored Krogans, “Look you have some Weyrloc, Quash, Ravanor, even Urdnot and Jurdon standing together, this is concerning.”

“How do you want to handle this, would beating this Uvenk guy stop this?” the General nodded slowly.

“Yeah the Krogan won’t follow a Warlord who got humiliated in single combat, but the only species who can match a Krogan hand to hand is an Elcor, and we don’t have an Elcor here sadly.” Guzma smirked as he told his group to get their pokemon ready for potential crowd control.

“I’m pretty sure my Golisopod could crack that carapace, just be ready to back me up should things get out of hand.” Before the General could protest, Guzma walked forward, shocking the Turians and Krogan.

“Hey shellhead, you talk a real big game for a guy who doesn’t even come from one of the more prominent clans on this planet, I’m surprised Urdnot and Jurdon let some third rate clan leader string them along on this suicide mission.” Guzma could feel his old swagger return, the confidence that made him the boss of Team Skull, the embodiment of destruction, “Then again I guess a nobody has to climb the rung at some point, but you chose the wrong time to try, you want a battle well you can fight destruction in human form!”

He could hear the dissatisfied grumbles amongst the Krogan, Urdnot and Jurdon clansmen looking at Uvenk in a new light, waiting for his response to Guzma’s challenge. The green plated Krogan didn’t disappoint as he roared in fury and marched towards Guzma, his hand resting on his shotgun.

“You speak boldly, tell me the name of the one I will kill, I will name my next son after you, perhaps he will inherit your audacity.” Uvenk snarled as Guzma continued to smirk.

“Guzma Bromley, but you misunderstand, I have a champion of sorts, it's him you’ll fight not me.” Uvenk looked at Guzma with disgust.

“You are a craven pyjak, send your krantt to their death if you wish.” I scoffed as we created some distance between us and I sent Golisopod from his pokeball. Uvenk looked at the behemoth of a creature in slight apprehension, Golisopod stood just as tall as most Krogan, taller than some, but the six arms with razor sharp claws at the end of each would put any would-be attacker on edge. The Turian’s watched in interest, they knew of the pokemon that fought alongside the humans, interacted with them in the short time they were on the planet, but to see one readying itself to battle a Krogan warlord was new.

“Alright Golisopod, this is your battle, put him down.” the crustacean chittered and nodded before turning to Uvenk who stared at him, trying to find the best attack path. Slowly the two creatures circled one another, until Uvenk charged to make his first move. Golisopod brought its two forearms together as a shield, which Uvenk gladly smashed into with his headplate. The dull thud could be heard around the plains, many Krogan surprised that the creature withstood the impact only being shifted back a couple inches. Uvenk was surprised as well, so much so he didn't notice his smaller arms swipe at him leaving a gash across his face. Pieces of krogan hide clung limp on the small claw as Uvenk roared in fury as he swiped at Golisopod’s face. The pokemon dodged the blow but we barreled into the ground by a shoulder tackle from the wroth Krogan warlord.

Uvenk mounted Golisopod, and began ramming his head into the armor of his arms, hoping to crack the unbelievably durable carapace. Golisopod smashed his arm plate into Uvenk’s head stunning the warlord and flipped him off into the dust. Golisopod chittered angrily as it extended its black claws even further and charged Uvenk looking to run the Warlord through with his claw. Uvenk to his credit rolled away as the claws hit the ground, penetrating the packed dirt. He regained his footing and rammed his head into the side of Golisopod, the weaker side armor cracking under the Krogan’s force.

Uvenk roared in pain as Golisopod’s smaller claws pierced his chest, holding him in place like an anchor. Uvenk glared into the star shaped eyes of the creature that dared battle a warlord, a begrudging respect he had to give it. Uvenk felt his fury mount as his blood boiled, and with strength he never possessed before he rammed his plate into the face of the creature causing it to loosen its hold as it went away to recover from the surge of pain. Uvenk could no longer feel the pain in his chest, or even the dull ache that was on his face, he just felt anger. Hot and plentiful, ready to fuel his nearing victory.

He once again charged the creature, his bloodlust leading the way as he ignored the feeling of something penetrating his chest, and grabbed one of the smaller arms intent to rip it off. Then he froze. He felt fear. He felt something was about to go really wrong. In the back of his mind, behind the anger fueled bloodlust he felt a claw. The claw that had found a groove in his headplate and was beginning to cut away at the sinew and muscle that held the treasured weapon in place. A primal fear filled him at that point, something from before when the Krogan were still primitive. He tried to pull away, but the smaller claws had latched into his chest. He tried to trip the creature but that merely made the pain in his plate more unbearable. He tried to lift the creature, to slam it into the ground to coax it to let go, but the fear and pain was sapping at his strength. Finally as he feared, the plate gave way and hit the ground with a dull thud. He was plateless, dishonored.

He roared in fury at the creature as he tried to push it back, to disconnect it from himself, but its arm plate slammed into his naw exposed temple and he fell to the ground like a dead pyjak. Clan Gatatog roared in fury intent on charging the creature themselves but a booming voice rang out stopping them.

“Stop, you would dare profane our ancient traditions, how our ancestors must weep to see aliens beholden to Krogan law more than their own kin.” out of the crowd came another Krogan, dressed in the red armor of Clan Urdnot, “The rite of challenge was issued, and accepted, it is now done.” He turned to the growling krantt of Warlord Uvenk, “Collect your Warlord, we leave this place with what little honor we have left.” he scoffed.

“Guzma Bromley, you have gained respect this day, but also many enemies. I wish you well in the battles to come.” Just as quickly as the shaman came forward he left, the other Krogan warlords begrudgingly following shooting looks of contempt at the gathered aliens. Guzma sighed as he took a spray-on potion from his former grunt and began tending to his partner. The Turian general and a Salarian STG agent came to stand next to him, both looking at Golisopod in slight apprehension.

“This is a short term solution, the Krogan are proud, won’t take the introduction of a species capable of beating them handily well, adjustments to defenses will need to be made, STG informed of growing unrest.” the Salarian muttered mostly to himself as he also studied Golisopod in a new light. The Turian general looked more apologetic.

“The Krogan won’t take this well, Uvenk wasn’t highly regarded but he was a warlord nonetheless, Humanity might gain an enemy in the Krogan the longer you all are stationed here.” Guzma figured as much, what was one more enemy when you are already fighting an existential threat.

“Well thankfully we have the Turians in our corner, isn’t that right.”

Tevos I

Tevos’s day had begun so well, she woke to news that her favorite Blitz team beat their regional rival, she enjoyed a delicious breakfast with no urgent calls coming to her. She was enjoying a rare moment of peace. In the back of her mind she knew this moment of serene silence wouldn’t last, she couldn’t lock herself away in her suite and ignore the happenings of the galaxy. Oh how she desired to do so though, the thought of leaving the citadel on a supply ship and exploring the galaxy again, the allure of adventure she hadn’t fully depleted during her maiden years. A foolish idea, her place was on the Citadel, her purpose was to ensure the prosperity of the Asari Republics and the greater galaxy.

She pulled up the latest news on her omnitool, frowning at the countless protests that had sprung up around the Citadel, decrying the Turian’s actions as a breach of Citadel procedure. She personally agreed, the Humans while somehow spacefaring, were still primitive in many ways. Their form of government so inherently unstable she was sure that should it remain as it is they would be no better than the Vorcha clans, they had no chance of becoming an extrasolar while so fragmented on their homeworld. Their habit of animal fighting would surely be one of the first things they’d have to forgo, the activity was nothing short of cruel and would be outlawed alongside Varren pit fighting.

She watched as a Salarian civilian rambled on about how unsafe it was to remove so much of the Tuchanka peacekeeping force, how involving the citadel in a war between what many believed to be a primitive war between two powerful nations on the planet would only lead to making a new Krogan menace. In a way she agreed, these Ultra Beasts surely couldn’t be that dangerous, the Endless Dawn fleet had been ambushed and taken damage fitting that situation. To believe these human tales of extra-dimensional invaders was unlike the Turians, she more so believed they simply wanted revenge for their lost people and were hoping to gain a client race out of the ordeal.

She brought up a tab that the Turians had sent to their councilor, showing pictures of the planet and its cities. She wouldn’t deny that the humans were ingenious in their own way, they had supposedly achieved something thought impossible by the greatest minds in both Asari and Salarian space. Their teleportation technology would indeed prove to be a boon to the universe, especially if it could be improved by the Salarian and Asari tech teams, she wondered if the Grand Temple’s prothean archives had information on this tech hidden away. Then there was the wormhole tech they possessed, the Salarian councilor had been drooling at the mouth get any information regarding the tech, She was sure he had STG oppertatives on Tuchanka watching the Humans that now garrisoned the planet alongside the Turians, hoping to snatch one up for interrogation.

She herself couldn’t believe it when she heard of it, but the fact that the Humans had been in diplomacy with the Turian leadership directly gave validity to its existence. There had been no signs of the Endless Dawn fleet going through any Mass Relays and somehow what remained of it now rested in Palaven shipyards. These Humans were going to inadvertently change the galactic balance of power, and she didn’t know how she wanted to go about it.

Whenever the galaxy stabilized one thing would remain sure, the Protheans had chosen the Asari to lead the new galaxy into prosperity, and the Asari would lead as destined.

Chapter 6: Short Chapter - A Mother's Duty

Summary:

Benezia secures a future for Liara

Chapter Text

Benezia sipped happily from her straw, the sweet yet tart drink she had been introduced to was just what she needed on this particularly hot day in Sinnoh. The whole of Jubilife City was bustling as people prepared for this year's trainers challenge. Parents ran busily around Jubilife, buying sturdy clothing, and league sponsored outdoors kits in hopes to help their children along their new occupation. Veteran trainers offering advice on what best aided them on their journeys to the new generation of wide eyed youths. The whole practice brought a primal feeling of community that space-aged society sorely lacked.

She found herself on Earth nearly as much as she stayed on Thessia these days, a habit that hadn't gone unnoticed by her detractors. They whispered that she had gone native, that she had forgotten she was Asari. She scoffed the cowards wouldn't dare utter those words to her face, all of Thessia knew that making a true enemy out of Matriarch Benezia T'soni was akin to social suicide, they would curse her name in their silent circles however. They would target those close to her, the only T'soni that cared not for the political machinations of the Asari elite.

Liara. She smiled as her thoughts drifted to her only daughter, just truly beginning her journey into her maiden years and had already proven herself better than most of her peers. Where other Asari maidens sought excitement in the form of mercenary work, or shaking their blue asses in one of the galaxy's many strip clubs, Liara chose a path so much more valuable. Her work on the Protheans had already gained some eyes, and while many overlooked her work as the ramblings and inexperience of a maiden, Benezia could see that brilliance in every word.

She worked tirelessly to see to it Liara got a fair shot to prove herself, cutting the legs from under any who hoped to tarnish her daughter to harm the mother. Yet Liara was going to need to do the truly hard work on her own. She had every faith in her precious girl's abilities, Liara would achieve greatness unseen in Asari society.

"Benezia, it's been too long!" Benezia smiled as she rose and hugged the woman she had quickly become fast friends with. She reminded Benezia so much of the domineering woman that acted as her mentor, donned in a sticking black two piece ensemble of slacks and vest. A lovely white long sleeved undershirt, hidden under a small black coat there to guard against that slight chill being brought from the looming form of Mt Coronet, “You really must visit Lucas and I more often!” Dawn Berlitz was probably the closest thing to an Asari matriarch the Humans had.

“I’m here to see you actually, come sit.” I beckoned to my table and the Sinnoh Champion obliged, waving a waitress over. The blonde woman fidgeting nervously as she introduced herself to her regional champion. Dawn merely smiled at the nervous woman and ordered herself a brandy made from Johtonian Apricorns. “Does that ever get tiring?”

Dawn smiled, “Sometimes, luckily I spend most of my time in Jubilife City and the citizens have grown used to seeing me walk the streets.” she looked quizzically at my glass, "Still haven't gotten over your last experience with human alcohol?" Benezia would have blushed in embarrassment if she was any less of a public speaker, the last time she went out with May, Dawn, and Serena on a 'girl's night' she had underestimated just how strong Earthlings liked their alcohol, and just how little the drinks could taste like alcohol. Suffice to say the papers of Lumiose City had a great headline about three champions and an Asari running roughshod around Kalos.

"Yes, I think the Republic would like to not have a repeat of that situation." She smiled, "How have May and Serena been anyway, I haven't had time to speak with them due to my travels."

Dawn thanked the waitress that had appeared with his drink, the short class hosting a light brown liquid that Dawn happily sipped away at. "Fine as can be, with the league challenges starting up again the champions have been making sure everything is ready." She smirked at Benezia, "We still haven't gotten an Asari trainer yet, what's the Republic waiting on?"

Benezia didn't need to ponder on that question long, the Matriarchs knew that the first Asari trainers would be representatives of the Asari in a sense and they were vetting every maiden they possibly could to make the right choices on who to send to Earth. Already she had been approached about sending Liara, but Benezia knew Liara would have no interest in Pokemon training, at least not enough to tear her away from her Prothean research for long, "Asari maidens have a bad habit of recklessness, the Matriarchs are most likely making sure that the first few trainers we send won't set a bad precedent."

Dawn chuckled, "They don't need to worry, Human children are reckless as well, the Rangers usually are swamped dealing with the madness that novice trainers get themselves up to." Benezia couldn't help but poke a bit of fun at her new friend.

"I'm sure the Rangers were ready to pull their hair out during your and Barry's adventure, how many reports did they get about a girl and her blonde friend attacking Team Galactic?" The two shared a hearty laugh before Benezia continued, "This talk of adventure is actually one of the reasons I wish to speak with you, my daughter Liara is a brilliant girl but after seeing what young humans do I fear she isn't as worldly as I hoped she was."

"I was hoping that you could assist me in getting her an internship so to speak, Liara would have no interest in battling but Pokemon research, especially your history would be ideal." Dawn seemed to be deep in thought before she smiled.

"Do you mind if I make a call?" Benezia shook her head, wondering just what the bluette was planning, "Rotom, please call Researcher Sada Moreno." She placed her phone on the table before a small hologram of a woman appeared. Benezia was taken aback by the appearance of the woman, she looked like the definition of the word feral. Her clothes were patchwork brown rags, adorned with various beads, arrowheads, and twine, the only normal clothing she had was a white lab coat.

"Champion Berlitz, it's an honor ma'am, have you reconsidered my theory on paradoxical pokemon being linked to multidimensional time travel?!" That set off warning bells in Benezia's head, were humans attempting to create actual time travel?

Dawn sighed, "I already told you and your husband, I believe that your theory has weight but it would be extremely dangerous to test, we already have the Ultra Beasts running around we don't need to poke something potentially worse." Sada looked decidedly unimpressed, "This is the time for this conversation Mrs. Moreno, I would like to introduce you to Matriarch Benezia T'soni. Benezia, this is researcher Sada Moreno, she is one of the leading minds on human/pokemon history alongside her husband Toro."

Benezia smiled warmly at the feral looking woman who merely looked at her in interest and confusion, "Sada, Benezia had a daughter who I believe would do well under your tutelage, if you could take her under your wing as a favor I'd be in your debt."

Sada ran a hand through her brown tresses, "I don't know Champion Berlitz, I've never been good with kids, that's always been Toro's thing, and the University pretty much gives me unlimited funding for my research. What could you give me?" Benezia was taken aback by the bluntness of the woman but Dawn merely smiled.

"Trust me Sada, I have something you want in on the ground floor of, the league is beginning a program called the Paldea Project soon."

Chapter 7: short Chapter - The Pokemon World Tournament Finals

Chapter Text

Heyo, I wanted this chapter to actually be a story chapter but I'm experiencing a bit of plot issues I'm hammering out, so while I deal with that I have some small chapters to hopefully make it up to you guys. Hopefully the next chapter is the story chapter.

“Heh, look at that Red, your little protege made it to the finals.” Blue nudged his stoic husband, a rare smile gracing his lips as he looked at the young girl with the bizarre red hat hugging her Incineroar. Her opponent was a man that Blue knew quite well, Brock had definitely come a long way since Blue had first started his journey. The Former Gym Leader of Pewter had taken Bruno’s post in the Elite Four and became a leading figure in the Pokemon Breeding and Health Science communities. He watched as he shook the girl's hand, the crowd applauding at the veteran trainer’s humility.

“She did well, but I’ve heard great things about her opponent, Leon’s not an easy person to beat and Gloria managed it so early in her career.” Blue nodded as he thought of the young Galarian champion. He knew just how strong Leon was, the 21 year old had held an impressive 11 year reign as champion and had looked ripe to continue that dominance, “This next generation of trainers are turning out to be diamonds, never thought we’d find more people with our level of dedication to training.” Blue had to agree. Gloria and Selene had faced some tough challenges that he was sure even he and Red would have been left defeated by. Both had repelled a major Ultra Beast threat, both led their regions out of isolation and into the ever expanded world. It was amazing to watch the young trainers learn from their elders as well as employ their own ideas.

“Still surprised the International Police didn’t raise more of a fuss at the Aether family retaining control of Aether Island, by all rights they could have claimed the whole place due to Lusamine’s actions endangering the world.” Red frowned at that particular spat with the I.P.

“Absolutely not!” Red sighed as he looked at the livid trainer he had taken under his wing. She glared heatedly at Agent Looker who matched her glare with his own, his partner Anabel trying to calm the newly crowned Champion of the Alola region, “Lusamine, and those who supported her actions, will be held accountable but I won’t let you rip the Aether’s from their childhood home, have you even talked to Lillie and Gladion?!”

Looker dropped two files on the table each sporting a picture of one of the Aether siblings, Gladion’s being noticeably thicker than that of Lillie’s. He wondered if he was going to have to spirit his new protege out of Alola, she looked like she wanted nothing more than to set her Vikavolt on the brown hair agent. “Young Gladion was a enforcer for Team Skull-”

“Team Skull, for all of Guzma’s bluster, were nothing but neighborhood nuisances!” Selene yelled incredulously at the agent, “You can’t possibly be trying to play them off as some Team Magma or Galactic level threat!.” Red remembered running into some of Team Skull’s crew, they were rather amusing if he was to be honest. They mostly ran around the Alolan Islands making fools of themselves or being good battle experience for rookie trainers. Even Alola’s police didn’t consider them so much a threat that they needed to be arrested, simply ushered back to Po Town.

“Team Skull took a whole town by force, young lady, they could have become Team Rocket reborn had they not been stopped!” Red nearly choked at that statement. Team Skull was nothing like Rocket, Team Skull was barely organized and made up of misfits looking for a home. Team Rocket could spread gangsters across whole regions, it could infiltrate whole governments, Team Rocket had Kanto and its League in a vice until he, Leaf, Blue and Yellow showed up. What's worse Team Rocket just didn’t die, no matter what a new sector would raise from the grave, Alola had just faced that problem. Sakaki Giovanni would never rest until he was dead, of which Red was sure, and it seems that not even Time and Space wouldn’t stop Giovanni’s lust for power. No, Team Skull was nothing like Team Rocket.

“Looker, this is a champion you are talking to, please show the proper respect.” Anabel admonished, “Champion Selene, the International Police have already pardoned Guzma and his associates in Team Skull, including Gladion Aether, but we can’t in good conscious just allow a former member of a Team whose leader assisted in bringing about a Ultra Beast invasion to now lead the Aether Foundation.”

“Gladion has the endorsement of Alola’s champion and professor, surely that will ease the minds of many in the I.P.” Looker shook his head.

“Not at all, many will feel that you are biased since you are romantically involved with Gladion’s sister, Lillie Aether, you will not be able to give a non-partial statement on Gladion’s morality nor his ability to lead the Aether Foundation.” Selene nearly leaped at the Agent, but Red’s firm hand on her shoulder holding her in place.

“Agent Looker, even if Gladion isn’t considered a viable successor to Lusamine her daughter Lillie still is the next in line, there is nothing that can be used against her to keep her from being the next President.” Selene looked at Red, her eyes shining with appreciation. Looker nodded to the former Kanto champion.

“It’s true that young Lillie Aether would be next in line, and many in the IP have argued that she would be the best choice, but she has a reckless streak about her that Professor Kukui and Champion Selene have only worked to encourage.” Red frowned, and Looker continued, “I know that this is hardly a precedence to withhold the position from Ms Lillie, but the Aether foundation is on the cusp of collapse after Lusamine’s fall and the Rainbow Rocket incident, they need strong leadership if it is going to survive and I don’t believe Lillie is the right person to save the company.”

“So what, the International Police would absorb the Aether Foundation?!” Selene snarled as Anabel sighed.

“Yes that is one of the leading decisions that we’ve been told to discuss with you, in time the Foundation could be returned to the Aether family, but it would be purely their conservationist departments, any R&D facilities as well as all information regarding the Ultra Beast and Ultra Spacians would remain in the control of the International Police.”

“Denied.” Selene snarled, a look that sat surprisingly well on the young woman’s face. “I appreciate the IP's promptness in assisting Alola in its trials but that doesn’t mean I will essentially give you a whole swath of land in Alola to do with as you please, especially that land being the hub of technological discovery in Alola.” Red smirked, it seemed that Selene had learned much about the region in her small time as champion. “If the people of Alola wouldn't run me out, the Tapus will!"

Selene looked down at Lillie's file and gave a small smile, "Lillie is much stronger than you are giving her credit for, I won't contest temporary reasonable sanctions being placed on the Aether foundation but there will remain a Aether at it's head as long as there is an Aether alive."

Red inwardly smiled at the memory of the little firecracker, she had grown so much in the last few years. He never thought he'd be a good teacher, then again he never thought he'd get married either and yet here he was married to the man who he competed with since diapers. He had done well for himself, lived a fulfilling life.

"Red, Blue it's been so long!" Red's eyes jolted to the familiar voice, a group was making their way to the champions box. Most consisted of the aliens, none he particularly recognized or interested him, but the woman traveling with them brought an inward smile. Her signature buns sat on either side of her head, each having a long ponytail trailing behind them. The black dress she wore hid her slender neck, and the pink heels she wore matched well with the unusually dainty handbag she was carrying. "Every meet Champions Satoshi Oak, and Blue Oak, guys these are diplomats from the Citadel races."

Red nodded and extended a hand to a slender frog-like alien, the fast speech coming out in barely audible jumbles. Blue sighed as he smiled at them, "Sorry about my husband, he is selectively mute, as Rosa said I'm Blue Oak the current Pokemon Professor of the Kanto region." He shook the hand of one of the blue skinned ladies.

"Selectively mute you say, hm bizarre, does that not impede your duties as a champion Mr Oak?" Red grew red slightly at his name.

"Not necessarily, the Indigo League champion isn't required to attend PR meetings unlike the Galar league Champion, the champion prior to me also lived a solitary life." He said, "Also please just call me Red, I don't use my name much anymore." He smiled and introduced himself as Tolon.

"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN OF UNOVA, AND ALL WATCHERS FROM ABROAD, IT IS NOW TIME FOR THE POKEMON WORLD TOURNAMENT FINALS!" Red and the new guests' attention were brought to the field, where the announcer was being flown around by a rotom-drone. "YOU ALL KNOW THE DRILL, THIS WILL BE A 3V3 BATTLE LAST WOMAN STANDING IS THE WORLD CHAMPION, NOW PEOPLE OF GALAR, LET US HEAR YOU!"

Red smiled as he heard the chanting around the arena, the Galarians were certainly a lively people. "OH YEAH, THAT WHAT I LIKE TO HEAR, PEOPLE OF ALOLA WHAT ABOUT YOU?!" Red added his own voice to the roaring crowd of Alolans, some even sang some Alolan sporting songs

"YOU ALL KNOW WHY WE ARE HERE SO LET'S BRING THEM OUT: FROM THE BEAUTIFUL ALOLA REGION, GIVE US A YEAH FOR THE PRINCESS OF THE ISLANDS, THE FIRST ALOLAN CHAMPION SELENE LUUUUPIIIN!" Red watched as Selene strode out from the tunnel, a huge smile plastered across her face, as she waved to the cheering crowd.

"So young to have achieved such a prominent position in your government, does that never concern you?" Tolon asked, "The codex says your species doesn't reach full mental maturity until around 21 to 25 years of age."

Blue nodded, answering "It's a pretty young development, spurred on by mass loss of life in the last war, many kids had to grow up fast and fill the holes left in society including league positions." He pointed at Red, "This guy was only given actual Champion responsibility after Lance deemed him ready for it, most prior champions will maintain power if the new champion is young, mentoring them to inherit their position."

"Has there ever been a situation where the prior champion didn't pass on the position willingly?"

"Besides the issue with Champion N Harmonia some years ago, no thankfully people understand the need for the system in such a fragile time in our history." Tolon nodded as he happily typed away at his omnitool recording the information for later use.

“PEOPLE OF GALAR, STAND TALL FOR YOUR CHAMPION!” The crowd roared with excitement as the announcer floated around the area, “FROM POSTWICK TOWN, THE SLAYER OF LEON, THE SWORD OF GALAR GLORIA CALAHAAAAAD!” from the tunnels came a brown haired girl, wearing a white uniform and a red cape with brown fur trim trailing behind her. Both trainers met in the middle of the battlefield, confident smiles on each of their faces.

“I’m calling it now Red, this is going to dethrone our last match as the best battle in history.” Rosa said as she looked down at the two trainers, Red nodded as he placed his hand on Rosa’s shoulder.

“These kids are the future, let them show the world why they are worthy to inherit the title of champion from us.”

“BEGIN!”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Benezia watched as the two young women, barely old enough to be Maidens, separated as they prepared for their inevitable clash. It still astounded her that these two girls held a position in their world that was the equivalent to an Asari Matriarch, with much of the same influence, but like Champion Red had stated the cost of war wasn't just loss of life but loss of childhood. The cheering began to reach a fever pitch as the announcer stated for the battle to begin and the two girls tossed their pokeballs to the field.

“Toucannon and Sirfetch'd huh, interesting choices.” Benezia was slightly taken aback by the fierce gazes of Red and Rosa, it was like they were making tens or hundreds of plans in seconds just by seeing those two creatures. Blue laughed as he beckoned us forward.

“Yeah most of the champions are like that when it comes to battles, unmatched battle instincts is kind of a requirement.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Selene hadn’t been this nervous since her last battle against Hau. She had been frightened, terrified even in some of her worse battles, but the gut gnawing feeling that came with anxiety she hated almost as much. She didn’t even fully understand why she was so nervous, she had faced so much worse in her young career, but this battle was giving her Torchic skin?! Sure she had the utmost respect for Gloria, she would even call the girl a friend since they were the only champions in their age group, but there wasn’t a huge skill gap between the two trainers that would put her on edge. She felt her pokeballs vibrate, small tugs on her aura calming her as her pokemon mentally tried to get her to focus.

She smiled as she palmed one of the balls, with her team, her family there was nothing she couldn’t face. Even Gloria. The caped girl watched Selene in interest, bouncing a pokeball in her hand as she waited. ‘This is it, this is where I make Alola’s future a reality!’ At the cry of ‘begin’ she tossed Toucannon's pokeball, the perpetually angry looking bird cawed as it took to the air. Across from them stood a white feathered bird, holding a long, sturdy leek as if it was a lance and a shield made of leaves.

"Toucannon give him hell!" The large bird cawed again, saying the word 'victory' as it circled above, "Acrobatics!" Toucannon dived down, flitting around trying to hit Sirfetch’d who held his shield in place despite the onslaught. The shield glowed a bright red before Sirfetch’d bashed it into Toucannon who had come in for another attack. Stunned by the counter, Toucannon was unable to dodge the leek, the force knocking him back to his side of the ring. “You okay Toucannon?” the bird shook itself off before cawing, the fight in its eyes having never dwindled.

“That was a greeting from Galar, Selene, now let's get serious.” Gloria said a smirk plastered across her face, Selene nodded and they both ordered their pokemon forwards. They watched in silence as the two pokemon clashed, prodding eachothers defenses, trying to create an opening for some meaningful offense. Sirfetch’d continued to try and catch the nimble bird with its lance, but Toucannon learned fast from its last encounter and stayed well from the weapon’s reach.

Selene smirked when she saw a small opening created from Sirfetch'd last attempt at a strike, "Toucannon use Brave Bird!". Coating itself in Flying type Aura, Toucannon locked its wings in place and dive bombed the duck. The shield buckled under the pressure and was thrown from Sirfetch'd grasp. Many in the crowd winced as the Duck was thrown backwards from the force, the dust thrown into the air obscuring it from view.

Selene didn't have time to warn Toucannon of the incoming danger. Bursting out of the smoke like a missile was Sirfetch'd lance, the sturdy leek brimming with red energy as it collided with the airborne Toucannon. The smoke finally settled and the crowd could see the stalwart duck standing proud, the bruising and scuffs from the battle on proud display.

"Good job Sirfetch'd, end this with Meteor Assault!" The duck cried out in challenge and charged forward, reclaiming its lance from the ground. Toucannon growled as glared at Sirfetch'd, its beak glowing a bright red. The knightly duck drove its lance into the Toucannon without mercy, the Alolan bird being thrown into a wall behind Selene who looked on with concern.

The announcer floated over to where Toucannon had fallen, the Pokemon unmoving but otherwise ok. "Toucannon is unable to continue, winner is Sir-" he stopped when he noticed Sirfetch'd wobbling, clutching one of its wings that sported heavy singing. The duck tried to hold its stance but it fell to the burns. "Sirfetch'd has fainted from Burn damage, this round is a draw, both trainers send out new combatants."

Selene smiled softly at Toucannon as she returned to her PokeBall, "Golisopod let's go!". The giant shellfish chittered excitedly, as it nibbled at Selene's hat. The crowd laughed at the interaction as Gloria sent out her next pokemon. A gray goblin like cat, that growled menacingly at the shellfish who looked on in interest.

The Perrserker roared challengingly, its eyes glowing red and its nails closing together to look like a wicked blade. "A battle of the blades, round two begins!" Perrserker didn't need any further orders as it charged forward with its claws set to pierce into its opponent. Golisopod brought its arms forward, the wide carapace blocking the strike with sparks flying where contact was made.

-----------

Benezia watched the clashing creatures in rapt attention, the sparks are the sharp metal like claws met giving the deadly dance a certain flare. She turned to the Turian next to her who was watching the battle with an eagle's eye, it seemed like he was picking up every minute detail of the fight.

"They are well trained, extremely so, with Turian air support ground battles would be near impossible to lose." He murmured and that worried Benezia because she could see the truth in it. Humans and Turians, even this early in their relationship, shared a strong bond forged in the ruins of Shanxi. Already regional professors were working with Turian ecologists to see what Pokemon could be added to Palaven's ecosystem, it wouldn't take the Turians long to also gain an acceptable mastery over Pokemon where they could be a military power so great they couldn't be contested.

She knew that the Salarians were hoping to put sanctions on Pokemon battling and Pokemon use in Militaries, but she knew that such motions would die in the crib. The Turians would never agree on hampering their new Human clients, and the Humans were culturally dependent on Pokemon, uprooting such an institution would be harder than uprooting slavery in Batarian space. Certain sanctions could be placed to make sure the sport was as safe as possible, but Pokemon and the battling aspect of rearing them was going to become the new norm in the galaxy. Her attention was brought back to the field when the cheering of the crowds picked up, the Perrserker was using its speed to try and outmaneuver the Golisopod, but the goliath crustacean used the denser pieces of its shell masterfully blocking any slashes sent its way.

Benezia wasn’t sure what made Selene decide she had seen enough, but her voice rang loud through the speakers, the single word she spoke spurring the Golisopod out of its defensive shell. “Lunge,” Golisopod acted as soon as the order was issued, coating its claws in a light green aura and jabbing the Perrserker in its gut, sending it tumbling into the dirt. Perrserker had barely pulled itself up from the ground before Golisopod was on top of him, its claws once again looking to strike. The scrappy cat yowled and used its claws to block, its arms burned as it struggled to hold back the much bigger opponent.

“Iron Head!” Perrserker smirked and coated its head with its Steel Aura before bringing it crashing down on the arm of the Golisopod chipping its claw, earning an angry chittering from it, “Keep up the pressure with Metal Claw!" Perrserker growled as it swiped angrily at the Golisopod who was still shaken from their earlier exchange.

"Meet its blows with Liquidation!" A great sword made of water formed at Golisopod's side which he used to overpower the weakened feline.

"Metal Burst!" A bright silver beam ripped from Perserkker's forehead gem, engulfing Golisopod entirely. Gloria smirked at Selene, "Lunge may have lowered Perserkker's Attack power, but Metal Burst doesn't care about that."

Selene sighed as she watched the Golisopod try to stagger back to its feet before finally fainting, "GOLISOPOD IS UNABLE TO CONTINUE, PERRSERKER IS THE WINNER!"

Selene returned Golisopod, thanking it for trying so hard, before grabbing her last pokemon, "Let's snatch victory for Alola, Incineroar!" She smiled as the hellcat roared at the Perserkker who met the challenge with its own. "Let's end this convincingly, Flame Charge!"

Perserkker didn't have time to react before the bipedal tiger slammed into it, the fire surrounding its body reacting badly with the metal coating on the hellcat. The hellcat tried to come back to her feet, growling balefully at the Incineroar, but fell unconscious soon after.

"AFTER A THRILLING BOUT WITH GOLISOPOD, PERSERKKER IS KNOCKED OUT BY INCINEROAR!"

Gloria smiled a genuine smile as she unclasped the cape from her shoulders, the heavy fabric falling to the ground, "This has been a great battle Selene, but now I'm about to have a champion time!" At her declaration the galarian crowd began chanting, and Benezia watched in fascination as the band on her wrist began to glow the light encasing her last pokeball and causing it to expand.

"Come on out, Cinderace!" Benezia watched in shock as a large rabbit was released from the ball, its head just shorter than the arena itself, standing atop a large ball of fire. By now the chanting had reached a fever pitch, she even noticed that some of her colleagues had joined in unknowingly.

Blue smiled down at the field, "You are about to witness two of the strongest forms of artificial Aura Manipulation, Dynamax and Z-Moves." Benezia took her eyes from the rabbit goliath to see a bracelet on Selene's arm also glowing. Unlike Gloria's band, in Selene's rested a black diamond shaped gemstone. A black energy seemed to connect the bracelet and the Incineroar.

"Incineroar, Malicious Moonsault!"

"Cinderace, G-Max Fireball!"

As she watched the two creatures, cloaked in their intense energy, throw everything they had at the other she knew that the galaxy was in a new age. She covered her eyes just as the two moves collided, but the explosion of light still made itself known to her.

Chapter 8: Checkmate

Chapter Text

Sorry for the long absence, been busy at work and so many good games have been coming out. I’m also working on a Hazbin Hotel fanfic so there's that.

Visquez thought she'd be more prepared for this. Her entire life she had heard the stories of the Kanto-Unovan war, every trainer in her father's gym were once part of his platoon and shared with her their stories of valor, their stories of despair. She knew since she was a child that she wanted to follow in her father's footsteps, wanted to serve a cause so much greater than herself, and she achieved that by gaining the rank of Captain, serving proudly under Admiral Hackett.

When her father had retired and the league had approached her with taking his position she had almost declined. It was Admiral Hackett that convinced her to take the position. He had told her Vermillion City needed a pillar, and she had been molded from a young age by everyone around her to be that pillar. So she left to take the position she had been groomed for, and she excelled becoming one of the strongest gym leaders in Kanto.

Now here she was once again, serving under Admiral Hackett, to defend her home and people. 'True honor and glory,' she thought with anticipation. The Ultra Spacians had been advancing though the star systems at a snail's pace, only bringing the grand fleet through when scouting Corvettes gave the all clear. It was a sound strategy, nobody knew how many ultra beasts were at the wormhole and a skirmish before the real battle couldn't be risked.

"Captain Surge, Admiral Hackett and Admiral Dulse are on comms." Visquez nodded to her ship's Rotom and entered the call.

"Admiral Hackett, sir!" She saluted, standing at attention as the two holograms looked at her.

"At ease Captain Surge, it's good to have you back among my ranks." He nodded to Dulse, "This is Admiral Dulse who will be joining this joint operation with me, our scouts have reported that the next system is the host to the wormhole, the beings that seem to be powering the wormhole are a swarm of Xurkitree that are in the middle of the swarm."

"We will be hard pressed to penetrate that many Ultra Beasts Admiral, winning this battle could very well mean the loss of over half of our combined forces." Visquez stated as she looked at the images taken by a scout Corvette, "Not to mention this will be our Turian ally's first time fighting Ultra Beast with Psychic support, they won't bolt at the first sign of trouble right?"

Hackett smirked at Visquez, "Turian military doctrine is ingrained so heavily in their culture that it makes you Kantonians seem sane, the Turians would rather lose their last ship before retreating in disgrace." A map of the star system appeared where his hologram once was, "And that doctrine will help us end this invasion once and for all, the Turian are awaiting a wormhole in Palaven's star system where they will send in their fleets, our job is to be the Anvil to their hammer."

Visquez watched as the battle simulation played, the UTR fleet hammering away in front of the enemy while the US fleets with their Strike Craft abused their flanks while keeping the Human fleets from getting overwhelmed. She then saw the Turians enter the field from the rear of the swarm, their mass accelerated rounds carving a vicious path through the UB horde.

"This is the most critical moment of this operation, we must keep the Invaders from collapsing onto the Turians, they won't break until the mission is completed, so we must maintain enemy aggression." Hackett looked pointedly at Visquez, "That's why I personally requested you, Visquez, I trust no one more than you to take this task and complete it."

Visquez's mind was already running through ideas, trying to find a way to keep the Ultra Beast on her ships. "Sir, do we have any missiles with Rage Powder payloads?"

"No, none of our current ships can fire those, if you wish I can order a small fleet to be teleported in, I believe Unova has some carriers with fighters that use them." Visquez nodded, "Visquez there is no retreating if you use those, there's a reason we don't use them normally."

The Kantonians steeled herself, she wouldn't fear her duty. "I understand Admiral, My fleet will hold." Hackett nodded a small smile gracing his face.

"Make me proud soldier, Hackett out."

-

"If I survive this, I'm going to open up a gun shop in the Citadel, become a civy." Desolas said as he sat crouched behind a barrier with the commanding officer of the humans: John Shepard Sr. The human laughed at his words as smoke wafted from the muzzle of his rifle.

"Come on Arturius, what's so bad about 4 days of near nonstop battle!" Desolas shook his head, thinking not for the first time that humans were insane. He and his squad had been under fire by the invaders for at least three days now, the only reason they hadn't lost ground was due to Turian and Human shared stubbornness and human healing technology. 'If I see a Chansey again it will be too soon.' the battle for all intents and purposes was going well. The Ultra Beasts were being contained outside of the main city, only problem is the horde didn't cease pouring through the wormholes, so now they just had to hold.

Desolas smirked as he watched the more sturdy Pokemon in their forces take to the frontline, the behemoths began launching large boulders and firing explosive beams into the Ultra Beast horde. He heard an all too familiar roar as the ground seemed to rip open consuming a large number of Ultra Beasts into the fissure. He looked at the Onix, its eyes glancing at him before roaring again.

He hadn't expected to gain the friendship of one of these pokemon, but the wild creature had saved him from a stray shot from a Xurkitree. It had been injured prior to the attack and had fallen unconscious afterwards, luckily Shepard had a spare pokeball in hand and Desolas had caught it to take it to the nearby medics.

Since then the Onix had been regarded as his partner, even Onix regarded him as such taking even more care to protect Desolas. An unforeseen consequence of his becoming an unofficial trainer was many of the trainers looked to him when they needed anything from the Turians, instead of his CO. Luckily they hadn't taken offense, instead using the situation to give Desolas an unofficial field promotion, his actions on the field would determine if the new rank stayed.

"Specialist Arturius, General Shepard, we have dire news from the west portion of the city, General Williams is retreating!" I watched John pale as he looked to the smoke rising in the distant direction where Williams's forces were supposed to hold, "The forces under command of Grimsley are aiding their retreat."

Shepard looked in the direction with trepidation, "Specialist, If I give you command of a squad of trainers and your Turians, do you think you can hold the line until reinforcements are available?" Arturius looked at Shepard in surprise, he could surely lead a small squad but to hold a defensive unit of this caliber, with forces foreign to him, was a large gamble.

"Shepard, this is General Haggen, fleets are engaging with the Ultra Beasts horde in space, get ready for contact with hostiles!" Shepard cursed as he looked at the sky dreading just what it might spit out.

"General, I can do this, focus on defending here." Shepard smiled, grabbing the turian's forearm firmly. "All Turian forces, you are to join Specialist Desolas Arturius in the defense of the western chokepoint."

-

Admiral Hackett watched the battle unfold in front of him, mass accelerated rounds punching holes into the near endless swarm of UBs, as the horde scrambled to organize after the sneak attack. He watched small strike craft from Ultra Spacian cruisers fly forward, laying out small mines; he hoped that they were as fast as they believed because the UBs were beginning to rally fast. He saw the strike craft begin to return just as the UBs rallied and began to send attackers after them.

Hackett felt the ship rock lightly as it unleashed missile after missile at the horde, seeing the missiles travel like a wave of destruction was almost like art. “Turians, you are free to engage.” I said and watched as an explosion of color erupted in the system as the wormhole spat out the massive Turian fleet. They cut a deadly swathe through the unsuspecting UBs as they blitzed towards the main wormhole.

“Captain Surge, it's time!”

-

Time seemed to slow for her as she and her fleet departed from the wormhole, across the street all she saw was devastation. While they hit the UBs hard, the UBs were hitting back with just as much fury, destroyers and Corvettes float aimlessly as they were melted, some even cut cleanly in halves. Pieces of UBs floated around as the system was quickly becoming a mass grave, and she was about to add to that toll.

“Create a defensive line for the Turians, let no one approach them!” I ordered as my fleet began to stagger our formation. The Turians had finally carved a bloody path to the Xurkitree powering the wormhole and it seemed the other UBs could sense the danger. Almost as one, any UB that was engaged with the main UTR and US fleet, turned and charged towards us intent on destroying the attacking Turians.

I watched as the mines had been triggered, and much of the horde were caught in the explosions, “Fire Rage Power Missiles, keep them busy!” I watched in silence as the missiles were released, exploding as they approached the swarm, releasing spores.

I felt a shiver run up my spine, I could almost feel the collective malice of thousands as the UBs went into a frenzy. “Shields up, keep them back!” I ordered and watched as the guns on the destroyers let loose, “Strike Craft, fall back for resupply!”

-

Vex couldn't help but look at the human in awe, as she stood silently next to him the only thing showing just what she was doing was the purple energy around her hands. He'd admit that he first thought this was a horrible idea, that the humans were overstating just how powerful these ‘Psychics’ really were. Now, as he watched beams of energy practically graze off the barriers of the ship, he couldn't help but be thankful for these humans.

He was also having trouble managing the battles due to the much higher speeds his fleets were moving, apparently not having to divert power to shields meant that they could put more behind the engines. He couldn't help but watch the pride of the Turians people carve a path through its opposition, this is what it meant to be Turian, to be the galactic peace keepers. “All ships, advance in formation, show them that the Turians bend to no one.”

-

Tevos drank from the sweet Asari liquor she had as she poured over reports from across the galaxy. It seemed these Humans had already shaken the status quo, Asari living amongst the Krogan reported them being an efficient and dutiful occupation force. They worked seamlessly with the Turians in quashing any potential Krogan unrest, even sparing some altruistic efforts to the Krogan doing food drives and makeshift clinics. The Salarians were growing concerned at the slight jump in Krogan birth viability, but it was keeping the peace as the Krogan females had taken charge of the situation and made the males stand down.

The Batarians had also sent their envoy to contest Human occupation of a number of systems within the Attican Traverse and Skyllian Verge both of which the Batarians had laid unofficial claim to. Tevos had been rather annoyed with the Batarians arrogance, especially since an Asari frontier colony was sacked by pirates not too long ago that STG had connected to the Hegemony. She took no small amount of glee in telling the envoy that their claim was illegitimate as they never went through any official Citadel channels to claim the systems, and now the Humans had ‘Sister System’ rights to the stars neighboring their borders.

Now she’d be able to meet one of the new aliens as they had sent a representative to meet with the Council and officially swear in as an Associate Race. She wasn't truly concerned, from all reports the Humans have adapted quickly and admirably to the Salarians, Asari and Turians they had been introduced to. She received a notification from an Asari news network and saw a reporter talking with a Human. Quickly she opened the live feed and listened

“-ade quite the shock with your entrance into the galactic stage, but the people of the Galaxy still don't know much about your people.” She let the unsaid question hand in the air as the human gave a polite smile. Tevos could admit the Humans were rather attractive, due to their startling similarities to Asari she could see them becoming a favored race to mate with amongst her people. The one on TV currently seems to be a bit older according to the human codex, perhaps around 40 some earth cycles. His hair was a sleek black that hung loosely around his head, but with strands of gray in it. His attire: a stylish black shirt and vest combo, black pants and lilac dress shoes that matched his tie and pendant attached to his vest.

“Of course, I'd have no issue discussing my people with you.” He said in a semi robotic voice, the smile on his face endearing him to many already, “But sadly I'd have to wait till after my meeting with the Council, duty calls.” Tevos chuckled at the light blush that dusted the reporter's face as the man smiled at her.

She noticed the notification on his Omnitool and sighed, it was time to convene in the Council Chamber.

-

Callum sighed as he and his team rode the much too long elevator to the council floor. The first things he'd petition for would be teleporters placed within the Citadel. Elevator aside he couldn't help but marvel at the beautiful station, a structure of its beauty he hadn't seen since AZ’s weapon. A part of him couldn't help but feel intimidated, Humanity and Pokemon had built some down right impressive things in their time, but these three species have been playing in the graveyard of a civilization that had built this. ‘Just what else could they have hidden away, the Citadel alone has sparked so many ideas within the UTR for our own station.’

“We have almost arrived Champion Delacroix, the Council will see you immediately as we enter the Presidium.” A young Asari spoke next to him as she fiddled with the Omnitool on her wrist. He nodded and prepared himself, it was his duty to see Humanity welcomed into the Galactic Community smoothly, brokering trade agreements and border adjustments that would work for both of our parties. Any fallout would fall on his head, as well as Kalos. He escaped that grim thought as the elevator came to a smooth stop and opened to show an extremely large lobby area.

Waterfalls, ponds, plant life and countless species walked around hurriedly or talked excitedly. He didn't have to guess what their conversations were about. He sighed as he readied himself, and walked forward with his party.

The presidium, while a grand room, was rather underwhelming when Callum compared it to the Kalosian League building. ‘Although I suppose castle is a better description of the home of his league.’. He looked at the large balconies that overlooked the main lobby, filled with the numerous associate species, all here to bear witness to the next species to join their alliance. In front of him, in elevated platforms stood three aliens: an Asari, Salarians, and a Turian.

Smiling, the Asari spoke, “Spokesperson of the United Terran Regions, we welcome you to the Citadel, I am Councillor Tevos of the Asari Republic.”

The Salarian spoke next, “I am Councillor Valern, of the Salarian Union.” His black eyes seemed to try to stare through Callum, like he was trying to find out how he ticked.

Lastly the Turian stood firm and spoke with a strong voice, “I am Councillor Sparatus, of the Turian Hierarchy.” the man nodded respectfully to Callum.

Callum smiled, putting on his ‘league politics face’ as Shauna called it, “Hello honored Councillors, I am Callum Delacroix, Champion of the Kalos region of Earth, and the current representative of all Terran Regions and planets.” he looked at the balconies, “I wish to say, for all Humans and Pokemon, that we are honored to be here amongst the premier minds of the Galaxy.”

Tevos smiled as she watched the man play to the crowd, “And we are honored to welcome a new associate race into the Citadel, our Turian allies have spoken very highly of your people.” Sparatus nodded with pride at that statement.

“Yes, the Humans and their Pokemon allies are conducting themselves admirably, both on Tuchanka and Shanxi.” Sparatus said his mandibles twitching as he smiled, “Tuchanka has overall become a much safer assignment, especially since the Krogan Matriarchs are endorsing their stay for now.”

Valern nodded, “Yes, but that is a topic that will have to be discussed, such aid to the Krogan should have gone through the proper channels first.”

Tevos smiled down at Callum, “Champion Delacroix, your species has already joined under the Turian banner as their client, but now it is time, like all species before yours, to join the galactic community.” Tevos gestured grandly at the gathered delegates as she spoke, “However beforehand, I believe we have much to discuss about your species and its new role in the Galaxy.”

Callum nodded before activating his holo-caster, the Rotom appearing, “Honored Council, the UTR already has a standing agreement with the Turian Hierarchy as far as our technology is concerned, as well as our military and humanitarian aid we send to the Republic of Megalo.” he sent files detailing the agreements to them, “We are willing to negotiate any terms, as long as they don't put us at risk of breaking our current agreement.” Callum sent a nod to Sparatus who nodded back.

Tevos silently scanned the document, “Overall the terms here are agreeable, but there are some points I wish to visit.” She said and highlighted a section of the document, “Here there is a provision limiting the creation of what you call Aether, and Rotom technology.” She also frowned at another line, “There is also this statement regarding the Ultra Spacians.”

Callum nodded, “The Aether Foundation as it stands is facing troubles due to recent issues regarding their leadership, as such they aren't allowing any schematics of their technology to be shared at this moment.” He could see the disapproval on Valen's face, “As for Rotom technology, since it is only functioning to its full potential when fused with a Rotom we felt it prudent to not allow its recreation till the other species had a better appreciation for Pokemon and their care.”

Valern spoke up in protest, “From what I have seen of your society you use these ‘Pokemon’ in what is equivalent to blood sport, you yourself are a champion of said activity.” Callum frowned at the Salarian.

“Pokemon and Humanity have built our connection since before the first Human civilizations took shape, Pokemon battling is a core part of the partnership between us.” He said stiffly to the Salarian who seemed to understand the land mine he stepped on. Tevos cleared her throat, and gave a friendly smile to cover Valern’s mistake.

“Will this be a topic that can be revisited at a later date?” she asked and Callum nodded and Tevos asked for him to continue.

“Due to being in another dimension, the Republic of Megalo have decided to not join the Citadel as an associate race, they do however wish to open trade negotiations with the Citadel and its associates.” Tevos frowned at that but couldn't really fault it. The Ultra Spacians broke all conventions when it came to the Citadel, how would they enforce their laws on a people they couldn't even reach.

Valern spoke up again, looking at the Rotom with apprehension, “The Union also expresses concerns with the way your technology seems to be developing, many on Tuchanka fear that this ‘Rotom-tech’ is dangerously close to AI, which is banned by Citadel law.” Callum could feel the unease mounting in the room as people stared at Rotom in concern and fear.

“Yes we have been informed of your situation with the Geth and the ban on AI, but Rotom-Technology is moreso the melding of biology and cybernetics, Rotom is a living creature, with desires and wants just like any other biological creature.” Callum paused in contemplation and continued, “There were seemingly gains made in creating AI in our history, but most were abandoned with the creation of Rotom infused tech, the UTR is in understanding and in full compliance with the Citadel’s AI laws.” Valern looked ready to protest until Sparatus spoke up.

“Many Turian generals have spoken to me about the Rotom, some even have used them, from everything they can tell it doesn’t pose any more of a risk than a rogue soldier.” he looked at Callum, “That being said they pose a serious cybersecurity risk to the Citadel, the Hierarchy and the UTR will begin implementation of ‘Anti-Rotom’ measures to protect the Citadel, these will be made available to the races after they have been tested.”

Tevos nodded and smiled, “I believe those were the biggest issues, if we are all in agreement, let me be the first to welcome the United Terran Regions as an Associate Citadel Race.”

-

Desolas coughed as he took cover behind what few barriers were remaining, the UBs had practically overrun the western portion of the city and his people had been hard pressed to keep them from pushing further. He heard his Onix roar as it tossed boulders at the advancing horde, the rocks crushing some and causing others to fly away due to its impact. “This is Specialist Desolas Arterius, I am requesting Air Support.” I spoke into my omnitool as I shot at a Nihilego that tried to flank us. I cursed when I heard the jumbled mass of words that came from the device.

I felt my heart stop when a light gathered in the mouth of a Guzzlord, and before I could order a retreat it fired. I closed my eyes, accepting my coming demise but the feeling of heat never came. Slowly I opened my eyes and saw a great wall of vines stretched out before me, and I fell to my knee.

“Close one, but don’t worry.” I turned to see two men, one older than the other but both were darker skinned and had purple hair. One had a smirk on his face as he walked up to a creature that kind of reminded me of an Elcor. “Good work Rillaboom.”

The older of the two smiled brightly as he walked in front of Desolas, “Thank you for defending my people, now-” a light shot from his waist as a large red dragon formed and stared menacingly at the horde. He tapped a device on his wrist and the dragon began to glow and expand, “It’s time to have a Champion Time.”

Chapter 9: Short Chapter - Liara's New Home

Chapter Text

Codex Entry - Arcturus Station: Arcturus Station, or better known as Nexus, was one of the most ambitious projects undertaken by a Citadel species before the Paldea Project. During the height of the Humans service under the Turians together the two species teamed up to create a base of operations, the likes of which unseen since the Citadel station itself. The structure is 5 km in diameter and holds a max capacity of 80,000 people. The Nexus serves as the central hub for extra-planetary teleportation, all Citadel species Homeworld minus the Batarians have a Teleportation Array on their planet linked to the Nexus. It also serves as the assembly building for the Annual Champions Council. Champion May Maple and Primarch Keldros Tiberius both lauded the completion of the station and their hopes for its future in the Galaxy, “The Citadel stands as the mind and soul of the Galaxy, where the greatest minds gather to unravel the greatest mysteries, we aim for Arcturus Station to be the Galaxy’s beating heart. Here we will defend and ensure the safety of the Galaxy and it's people.”, even now after the separation of the Humans from Turian guardianship they work in tandem, two fleet from Palaven and Megalo remain stationed at the Nexus alongside Human ships and retired Turians serve as Nexus security if they decide to not join C-SEC. -Article from Asari newspaper title ‘Wonders of the Milky Way’

Liara had lived on planet Earth for a year now, and despite her earlier reservations she was finding her time spent here thrilling. When her mother had mentioned that she had secured a spot as an apprentice to a Researcher in the Sinnoh region I had wanted to protest, but mother was unusually firm about me taking this opportunity. I had been quite cross with her, I had believed myself close to a breakthrough on the Protheans and their mysterious disappearance, but she mentioned that Humans also had nearby Prothean relics and ruins untampered with by any citadel species.

So I took a ship to Palaven where we were to be teleported to the nexus of the human’s extraterrestrial interests:l Arcturus Station. An impressive construction of Human and Turian philosophies, she recognized many defensive weapons placements that the Turians had wanted to add to the Citadel itself, but were denied by the Asari and Salarians. While nowhere near as large as the Citadel, Arcturus Station or ‘The Nexus’, was a collective of all the species in Citadel space. Here they herded themselves around trying to get to their next Teleport array to arrive at their destination planet.

I smiled softly as I remembered the first time I was greeted by the cold winds blown down from Mount Coronet; Dawn and Sada found it quite hilarious watching me battle against my excitement and my shivers. I looked down at my thesis paper on the connection between the Protheans and the Unown and sighed in exhaustion. The trip to the Ruins of Alph was such an enlightening experience, especially when she managed to catch her partner: Z.

She looked over to the Unown, who slept peacefully on a ledge above her desk. The odd little creature had become her world, and one of the cruxes of her research. The Unown were rumored to have reality shifting abilities when gathered on mass, some of her fellow scholars believed them to be the equivalent to DNA for the universe itself. She shuddered at the thought, Z with a couple of his friends could remake worlds, and with a swarm they could rewrite reality.

She believed the Protheans too found out this information, and tried to approach the Unowns as if they were any other animal. ‘It adds up…the Protheans for all intents and purposes seem to have just disappeared, what if they meddled recklessly with the Unown.’ She sighed as she put down her pen, her hands aching still not used to the utensil. Professor Sada believed in physical copies of documents, and made Liara perfect her penmanship in both Asari and Human languages.

“Still up?” I jumped slightly at the baritone voice, and turned to see Toro holding two steaming mugs, “I can't teach my wife proper sleep scheduling but I can perhaps save you from that folly.” He said kindly as he passed me a mug. I smiled at my mentor's husband taking the mug, the smell of chocolate hitting my nose causing my mouth to water. He moved to my side and nodded towards my paper, “May I?”

I nodded as I took a sip, the liquid scalding my tongue slightly but I hummed in satisfaction at the taste, “Mrs Sada should really rest, such late nights can't be safe for her child.” Toro nodded as he scanned over the paper.

“I've said as much, but my love isn't one to bow to human limitation, I hope our child shares her spirit.” He said smiling softly, “Hm, this has promise, although I suppose it will be an unpopular thesis amongst other Protheans researchers.” I sighed but nodded.

“Yes the galaxy can be slow to embrace change, especially of established norms, but it will cause waves nonetheless.” She said excitedly and Toro nodded.

“Nevertheless, the mind needs proper fuel and rest to work efficiently, you aren't fulfilling the rest portion.” He smiled kindly and placed a hand on my shoulder, “Sleep Liara, your research will be here in the morning, and I'll need your help in getting Sada ready for the morning.” He joked as he walked away.

I smiled as I watched him walk away and rose from my desk, Z waking to go to bed alongside me. I patted the Unown's head as I thought of the two researchers who quickly became parental figures to me, a shiver ran through my body as I thought of a vision I received while in the Ruins of Alph. The voice still haunted some of my dreams, “Y₀u ɑre no7 gettıng ın my wɑy!”

Chapter 10: Short Chapter - A Joy's Creed

Chapter Text

Alice sighed as she wiped her brow, her hands aching lightly but still steady. She smiled warmly at the small little creature that she had aided, its long snout twitching as it sniffed her and licked her hand. The nearby Turian looked at the small creature with caution, his eyes never leaving it as I helped it outside the building. I couldn’t blame him, the reputation for mischief these little ones seemed to have gained reminded her greatly of the Aipoms of her home region. Her heart panged at the reminder of her home, she didn’t think she would miss Sinnoh so quickly, but perhaps Tuchanka was simply too different.

Instead of Snow capped mountains, beautiful blue oceans and lakes, and the crisp feeling of cold mountain air; she woke every morning to smoldering heat, the smell of acrid desert and dry sand, and what vegetation did exist were as menacing as a Victreebel and just as dangerous. She could almost laugh at her situation, she didn’t have the drive to be a trainer, she didn’t have the mindset for the grind and travel, so she joined Medical School to become a Pokemon Center nurse. Despite all of that she somehow found herself not just out of Sinnoh, but on a whole other planet entirely.

I was drawn from my musings when a young man, wearing the symbol of Team Skull, came bounding down the hall. “Nurse Joy, Nurse Joy, do you have any more of those snacks for Dark types, my Mightyena really liked them.” I smiled at his enthusiasm and reached into the customary pink apron of the Pokemon Center nurses and pulled out a small bottle. He smiled and took it, before running off waving behind him.

My Turian guard looked at me in confusion before clearing his throat, “Sorry if this is personal Ms, but I thought your name was Alice West, but I’ve heard you and your colleagues be referred to as ‘Nurse Joy’.” I smiled at him and beckoned him to follow me as I did my rounds in the makeshift hospital.

“It's a title with an important history to it, our people had a really big war going on that brought nearly all the regions into it.” I said as I began l applying a potion spray to an injured Vaporeon, “A woman native to Sinnoh went to the frontlines of the war, she wasn't a battler truly, but she was an extremely talented healer.” I smiled and offered the Vaporeon a treat that it took gleefully and turned to the Turian.

“She healed everyone she came across, in her makeshift hospital everyone was welcome, it was there where the overtures of peace truly began, when the soldiers of Kanto and Unova talked not as enemies but as people.” I smiled with a sense of pride, “After the war she returned to Sinnoh, but the soldiers she helped never forgot her and in time she gained medals of service from all the regions and the healers that followed in her footsteps adopted her name as a title: Nurse Joys.”

I smiled as I remembered receiving my Nursing License, and my partner Chansey. “It's in part a way to honor her, and a way to remember the creed she embodied, that all the Nurse Joys embody: We see no battlelines, there are no enemies among the wounded and dying, we are the symbols of hope and mercy to the lame, destitute, and sickly.” She smirked at the Turian, “We take this seriously, Galarian Nurses had a mini rebellion against the Macro Cosmos Corporation when they tried to monetize Pokemon Centers.” She laughed at the situation, Galar was the laughing stock of the regions for a good while after that blunder

The Turian looked at me in a sense of awe, “She sounds like she would have made a great Turian, that sense of duty to her people would have seen her climb high in the ranks, I hope your order can find a home amongst my people one day.” I smiled at him kindly, considering the fact that the Turians would at some point integrate with Pokemon it was very likely that some of them would be trained as Nurses Joys.

I frowned when I saw a Chansey running to me, its face distressed. I activated my rotom-phone as the Chansey spoke quickly, the robotic voice soon translating: “Trouble at the gates Ms, requires a Joy, please hurry!”. I nodded and ran to the front entrance, followed closely by a couple other nurses and Turians. The sight that graced me was Humans and A few Salarians having a standoff while a Krogan stood behind the humans in distress.

“What is this madness, this is a hospital!” I yelled in anger at the soldiers, the Humans had the decency to look abashed but the Salarians still seemed rather up in arms. I turned to the highest ranked trainer, “Report soldier.”

He stood at attention, his eyes fixed on me but his hand never leaving the pokeball at his waist, “Nurse Joy, a Krogan woman came to the compound distressed asking for help, her child is dying ma'am.” my blood grew cold and I looked at the woman who seemed to grow more distressed by the second.

“Kevin, prepare a room for the mother and her child, Liza you gather a number of potions.” I barked to my fellow nurses who went to their assigned task, I turned to the Salarians who looked at me affronted, “You will stand down.”

One Salarians bristled at the order, “We are not-” the Salarians was met by the challenging growl of a Houndoom and he stuttered, “Th-the Union won't stand for this!” I brushed past them, walking to the Krogan mother and child.

“Come, you will find sanctuary here, the Joys will care for you now.”
