“Zenon stop!” You shouted as you ran into the room where the fight between Yuno and Zenon was taking place. You planed your feet onto the tilted ground, standing in front of you boyfriend, Langris, and Yuno. Zenon’s eyes widened; he knew who you were the second he laid eyes on you- it didn’t matter you had grown- he would recognise you anywhere. His little sister. The one that ran away nine years ago. “What the Hell are you doing here?!” Langris shouted at you in a panic, he didn’t want your life to be in danger. He couldn’t let you die. Zenon was a foe far stronger than he had anticipated. You gave Langris a smile, “I couldn’t let you fight on your own. That’s not who I am.”
Zenon didn’t want to hurt you; he despised the very thought of it. But you stood in the way. Zenon’s voice was stern as he ordered you to move, “move (Y/N)… please…” Still he couldn’t be so unnerving towards you no matter how hard he tried. He had to hold his composure- had to hold his cold demeanour in the face of you even though he just wanted to embrace you after all these years. You were the littlest one; the one he protected. He couldn’t hurt you. You faced your brother once again, taking a step forward, “this is more than enough now, Zenon. Please, I’m begging you, stop this.”
What were you thinking? Langris couldn’t’ wrap his head around your actions. “(Y/N) get back!” Yuno was harsh with you. Despite the fact he was your rightful ruler, you couldn’t obey his orders this time. Langris followed his words, “just get out of here!” “No, Langris, Yuno. I’ll be fine. I know Zenon won’t hurt me.” You assured them. “He’s a devil-possessed psychopath! He doesn’t care- he’ll kill you!” “No he won’t!” Your shout made Langris, and Yuno stop, their heads catching up with them. You looked back at the pair, “my older brother won’t hurt me.” Langris and Yuno stopped dead in their tracks. He was your brother?!
“Zenon, I know you. I know you think that this is all for the sake of the Spade Kingdom. That’s why you took Captain William and Yami. That’s why you joined Dante and Vanica when they overthrew House Grinberryall. That’s why you became a devil host… That’s why Allen died!” Your words made Zenon’s eyes widen more. Allen. You actually remembered him? “I know what happened that day. And it wasn’t your fault… Allen knew what he was doing when he distracted that devil. This, however, is wrong.” Your could feel the insides of your chest shaking as you pushed back the tears that wanted to fall down your face. You knew that Lucius had Allen killed. You knew everything. Brain Magic; it allowed you to resee everything of your choice or will.
“Zenon, I think you know that what you are doing, is something Allen would never approve of. He would never have let you do this. You turned your back on Elder Brother, and so did I, because Allen gave you hope. You both… gave me hope!” You placed a hand on your chest to emphasise your words. “None of this… was ever apart of that. You know that this is wrong. You know that Lucius is wrong. You know that this isn’t for the Spade Kingdom, and it’s not for Allen either! You think it’s for the glory of the Spade Kingdom… the home Allen left you to protect when he died, but it’s not… Please see that.”
Zenon’s shoulders dropped and he stared at the ground upon hearing your words. “… (Y/N)… I know you aren’t wrong… I know what you mean… But you did miss something.” Zenon’s reply was quiet, you almost couldn’t hear it. “What did I miss? Please- Please tell me…” you chocked back a sob, not wanting to let it out. “I did this for the glory of the Spade Kingdom… But I also did it to protect you…” You smiled smally, “I know. I know you did, brother. But this has to stop. Innocent people are dying for no good reason.” “I don’t care so long as you’re okay.” Zenon snapped. He needed to get his point across. He needed you to see that.
“It doesn’t have to be this way… Zenon, please stop this. For the sake of humanity. For the sake of the Spade Kingdom. For Allen’s sake. For my sake, please stop all this! I’m begging you.” Tears welled in your eyes; you couldn’t hide them anymore. Langris gasped out your name, “(Y/N)…” Zenon stiffened, wordlessly staring at the ground, refusing to meet his eyes with yours. He couldn’t do it. You didn’t understand; he couldn’t expect you to. Zenon’s silence and actions gave you, his reply. You looked down, your shoulders dropping, “I see.”
Your hand slowly lowered to down at your side. You moved it back slowly to behind your grimoire pouch where a sheath was tied. Your fingers curled around the handle of the blade hidden there, pulling it out, and holding it to your own throat. Zenon immediately recognised the blade; he’d made it for you when you were younger. Zenon took half a step towards you in a panic, “(Y/N) what are you doing? Put that down.” “(Y/N)! What are you thinking?!” Langris shouted at you while Yuno gritted his teeth, debating whether or not to try and snatch the blade from your hands. Zenon paled, his stomach churning. You showed no hesitation, no fear. You weren’t afraid. That was frightened Zenon the most.
“(Y/N), don’t. Think about this.” Zenon tried to reason with you, but you weren’t having it. “Please, I’m begging you, don’t do this!” Langris pleaded with you. He went to race towards you, but Yuno held his arm out in front of Langris, stopping him. Langris was about to shove him and retaliate when he stopped. He saw the look on Yuno’s face. His teeth were gritted, he was focused on the situation before him, sweat beading down his face. He was trying to figure out how to save you. Yuno’s grimoire slowly began flicking through pages. There was no way you’d do it, right? “(Y/N)… Please…” Langris begged- he was willingly begging, for you to stop. You ignored them, you couldn’t’ involve them in this.
“Zenon, if you don’t stop this right now… You’re going to lose me too.” You threatened, pushing the tip of the blade into your neck little by little, your face contorting in slight pain from the pinch at your skin. Zenon shook head, his voice still monotonous, “please don’t do this, (Y/N).” “Come back brother.” Zenon didn’t reply. “Langris… I hope you’ll forgive me…” A single tear slipped down your face. Langris reached out for you, “(Y-)!” He didn’t even get the chance to call out our name properly before you had driven the blade across your throat. All three of the male’s eyes widened.
Blood was pooling out of your neck, your chest already staining red. A strangled noise left your throat as blood began to dribble from the corners of your mouth, dripping down off fo your chin. The hand holding the dagger felt weak, the grip in your hand was lost, the danger slipping through your fingers and dropping onto the ground, the metal noise reverberating through the air. Your mind was going fuzzy but there was still a part of you that was completely intact. You smiled weakly at Zenon who was standing across from you, his eyes like saucers, his mouth shaking, before dropping to the ground almost lifelessly. Yuno gasped in shock, his body shaking. Langris was frozen. He couldn’t move. His mind was blank.
“No!” Zenon screamed out, pain filling ever inch of the shout. It wasn’t a physical pain, but an emotional pain. Seeing your blood, seeing your pain, seeing you fall… For the first time in years he had a will of his own again- and it was strong. ‘Zenon stop! You’ll break the contra-’ Zenon’s pained will was enough to force Beelzebub out of him, breaking their own contract. The armour he wore evaporated into thin air as he ran up to you. He dropped to his knees, lifting your limp body onto his lap, cradling you in his arms. Tears had began bawling down his face, unstoppable.
“No, no, no, no. No, no. No. (Y/N) Please-please…” Zenon Zenon’s voice cracked; hold you as close to him as possible whilst pressing his hand against your neck to try to stop the bleeding. It wouldn’t though. It poured from your neck like water form a tap. The warm red seeped through the gaps in his fingers, slidding across his hands. It made him feel sick. You opened your eyes slowly; they were heavy, and it was hard but you forced them open. Zenon looked down at you, locking eyes with you. His face was filled with overwhelming amounts of sadness. You didn’t like seeing him like that. You managed to pull another weak smile out as you looked up at the brother you remembered, “there’s… the… ol…der… broth…er… I… remem…ber…” Your voice was hoarse, raspy, quiet. You closed your eyes again, no longer having the strength to keep them open. You were tired. The droplets of Zenon’s tears fell onto your face. There was no way this was happening.
Your heartbeat grew slower and slower, fainter and fainter. Zenon was sent into another panic, he thought he had more time. He didn’t have the mana to save you. “(Y/N)? (Y/N)?! No, no, no, no, no. Come on. Open your eyes! Stay with me! Please. Please! I’m begging you! Wake up!” Zenon subconsciously held you closer, “(Y/N) please wake up! Please! Stay with me please! I’m sorry! Don’t die on me! Please!” Langris was still frozen in place, his mind drifting rather than facing reality.
Zenon’s head lifted and made eye contact with Yuno and Langris, “save her! Save her please! You can do whatever you want to me, but you have to save her! Please I’m begging you! Save my little sister, please!” Yuno finally snapped out of his daze, reaching for his communications device immediately. The transmission was answered right away. “Yuno, what’s wrong?” Fuegoleon’s voice came through the device. “We need a recovery mage here now! Please! Hurry!” The transmission ended, and seconds later the room was filled with the mages from the alliance.
Zenon didn’t look at all the mages, just held you as he continued to cry. “That’s the last member of the Dark Triad. Zenon.” Nozel’s eyes narrowed at Zenon. Nacht looked around, “something’s wrong.” Looking closer, everyone cloud see (Y/N)’s dying figure in Zenon’s arms- it sent the wrong message to them. Charlotte, Noelle, Mimosa, Lolopechka, Rill, and Asta gasped at the sight. Rage welled within Asta, and he went to run at Zenon, “what the Hell did you do to (Y/N)?!” Yuno stopped Asta by holding out his arm, “Asta stop.” “What?! Why?!” “… Because she did that to herself.” More gasps came from the mages.
Zenon finally looked up and faced the large group, “please save her! I’m begging you! Please! Do whatever you want to me but save her! Save her! Please! Save my baby sister! I’m begging you! Just save her!” Zenon pleaded; his eyes bloodshot from all his crying. “Mimosa” Nozel called. “On it!” Mimosa nodded, running up and kneeling in front of you and Zenon. Zenon held you out from him a little so she could cast her spell. “Plant Recovery Magic: Flower Princess Paradise.” Mimosa cast her healing spell, flowers appearing all around and underneath you, alongside a powerful glow. “Come on, (Y/N)… please.” Mimosa whispered out. The wound on your neck healed up, the blood seeping from the cut slowed to a stop.
The glow and the flowers disappeared; Mimosa sat back. Everyone watched closely, but you didn’t take a breath. Your chest didn’t rise, your heart didn’t beat. “Oh no” Mimosa gasped, bringing a hand up to cover her mouth as she looked down at you through teary eyes. “(Y/N)” Asta breathed out. Lolopechka turned and cried into Gadjah’s chest. Langris was worst off out of everyone though. His heart hammered in his chest. Why did he let you anywhere near this battle? What had he done? You were gone now. He’d lost you.
Langris’s breaths grew heavy. He gritted his teeth, his hands turning to fists. He let out an angered shout as he turned away from the other mages. He raised his hand and threw a large spatial portal that destroyed a large portion of the castle. Finral ran up to his younger brother, grabbing his arm to hold him back, preventing him from throwing anymore spatial spells. “Langris stop! Stop it!” Tears streamed down his own face as he held Langris back. Langris struggled in Finral’s grip before tears finally began down his face.
“This… is all my fault,” Zenon looked down, fresh tears welling in his eyes, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry… Please wake up. Come back, please… I’m sorry. You were right… About everything. Allen would be furious. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.” Zenon’s head slowly lowered till his forehead rested against yours. He brushed the hair out of your face repetitively. “It’s all my fault. This is all my fault… It’s all my fault… forgive me. Please forgive me (N/N). I’m so sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” Zenon’s overwhelming emotions of sadness and grief becoming vocal.
“I’m sorry…”
Your chest rose. Mimosa, who was watching you closely was the first to see it, “(Y/N)…?” Your chest rose again. “Ze…no…” You breathed out, your voice almost too quiet to here. Zenon’s eyes opened and he looked at you. Your chest rose and fell again, in a repeated fashion now. Zenon’s whole mouth quivered. “Ze…non…” You breathed out again, curling into the warmth of your older brother slightly. “(Y/N)?” Zenon gasped out. Langris was snapped out of his grief-induced rage. His breathing was heavy as he watched you; you were alive. By some miracle.
The corners of your mouth flicked up into a small smile, “Zeno… you’re… back…” Your eyes opened a squint. Zenon panted, “hah… hah… you’re okay… Oh my god, you’re okay…” Zenon cried, bringing you up closer so you were sitting upright in his lap just like when you were a kid. “(Y/N)! You’re okay!” Asta and Lolopechka cheered, bright smiled on their faces while everyone else was relieved. “You’re okay. You’re okay. You’re okay.” Zenon repeated to himself, he was assuring himself that it was finally over. “Zenon?” “Hm?” You placed your hand on top of his arm, “Allen would be proud of you.” Zenon shook his head with a chuckle, “he’s going to kill me.” You looked into the distance, seeing the transparent man form your childhood standing there, smiling at the two of you. “No. I know he’s proud of you. I know he’s been watching over us…”
“(Y-Y/N)?” Langris gulped as he approached you, his face pale, and his eyes wide. You smiled at him, “hey Langris.” You gave him a small wave. Langris’s lips quivered before he gritted his teeth. “You idiot! What were you thinking?! You could have died! Moreon! You idiot! That was so stupid!” Langris shouted at you, tears in his eyes. He’d really thought he’d lost you. “Langris give her a break, she just came back from deaths door-” “Stay out of this Finral!” You understood your actions were misplaced and unthought out. You never took a moment to consider the consequences for the others.
“Langris, I’m sorry. I get that it was wrong of me, I’m sorry. I didn’t think it through. But I had to bring my brother back.” You took to your feet, shakily, Zenon standing up and helping to steady you. “Sorry isn’t going to cut it, (Y/N)! You nearly died! I almost lost you! I almost… lost you…” Langris didn’t have the will to shout at you anymore. His heart was breaking piece by piece. He wasn’t closed off to you anymore; and that had meant that he could feel the pain in full. You limped towards Langris. Once he was in arms reach, your pulled him in. Your hands were placed on his cheeks, and you pulled him in for a kiss. Langris’s lips gently melted with yours. You wiped tears from his eyes with your thumbs as you hared a kiss with him. You broke apart quicker than usual at Langris’s break. His hand made it’ way onto your cheek and his forehead against yours, “you need more air. You only just came back to me. Don’t be a fool.” You chuckled, “cherry tarts later?” “You’re not getting off that easily.”
“I- uh- I do have a question…” You stated, pulling back from Langris. Langris tilted his head, “what is it?” You pointed at the giant hole in the castle, “I don’t remember there being a hole there. Is my memory fuzzy?” Finral began laughing quietly. Langris shot him a glare, “shut it.” “Well, you see, Langris here wasn’t-” “Shut it, brother.” Langris’s glare darkened. Finral shook his head and Yuno took up the answer. “Langris got a bot too upset at your death ad took out the wall with his magic.” Langris sighed, hiding his now red face.
“Ahhhhhhhh!” A small figure latched itself onto your shoulder, crying. It was Gimodelo. He had his tiny arms wrapping around you as best as he could. “Don’t do that again! I thought I lost you! You can’t do that to me, (Y/N)!” Gimodelo was in tears, crying and whining. “Gimodelo. I’m okay. I’m sorry for worrying you” you placed a hand on his back. “Hey! Get off of her!” Liebe yelled from where he’d perched on top of your head. Gimodelo looked up at him angrily, “you get off, shrimp!” “If you two are going to argue you can go back to your hosts. Understand?” “Yeah…” They both sighed in union.
Zenon came up behind you, “you are the one with the true talent, (Y/N). It’s even unlike Lucius’s.” You turned your head back to see him smiling softly at you, you gave him a questioning look, “what do you mean?” “You never made a contract with a devil, you never needed to. But you’re still so friendly with them, despite everything. I’m proud of you. Your far stronger than me, that’s for sure.” “You bastard!” Liebe flew from on top of your head to hover in front of Zenon’s face. “Can I help you?” Zenon looked at Liebe inquisitively. “You’re the reason (Y/N) got hurt! Bastard! I’ll kill you!” The tiny version of Liebe began weakly punching Zenon. “Liebe… m-maybe d-d-don’t do that?” Asta suggested, remembering that Zenon was a member of the Dark Traid.
“I hate to ruin the moment, but I’m placing you under arrest, Zenon Zogratis. You are to be judged on crimes such as kidnapping, murder, attempted murder, attempted genocide, assault, and devil possession.” Nozel approached Zenon, pulling a pair of hand-cuffs out of his pocket. Zenon just nodded and held his hands out to be cuffed. You weren’t going to let that happen. You just got him back; you weren’t going to let them take him away again.
You stepped out on front of Zenon, blocking him from Nozel. Nozel’s eyes narrowed, what are you doing, (Y/N)?” “I won’t let you cuff my brother.” Gimodelo squeaked in fear of your tone of voice and gripped onto your tighter. You placed a hand on Gimodelo’s back reassuringly. “You are aware of his crimes, are you not?” You exhaled longly. “If anyone is aware of the crimes of the Zogratis siblings, I am. While Dante Zogratis, Vanica Zogratis, and Lucius Zogratis are without a doubt, evil, malicious, murderers, Zenon is not.” “(Y/N)…” Zenon gasped out under his breath. “Zenon has done all of this for a Spade Kingdom. The deal with Beelzebub, the Tree of Qliphoth, Kidnapping Captain William and Yami.”
“What are you saying, (Y/N)?” Fuegoleon questioned, unsure of where you were going. “None of this would have happened if Lucius hadn’t of had Allen killed. If elder brother hadn’t of killed Allen, then Zenon wouldn’t have given in. None of this… would ever have come to pass.” “You don’t have to do this, (Y/N). You shouldn’t have to relive this.” “I’ll do anything to keep you save, brother.” “(Y/N)…” Zenon tried. “Allen was our friend. He stood up for Zenon when they were younger. They joined the magic defense force as rivals, trying to see who would become the commander first” You continued, Asta and Yuno’s eyes widened as they shared a glance. “They went on a mission once they joined the fourth division. It was a dungeon with a devil sealed inside. Allen stalled the devil and died to save everyone else. Zenon was the one who had to deal the final blow to him. And Lucius was the one who put that devil there, our eldest brother. Zenon isn’t evil. If I thought he was, I wouldn’t have risked my life to bring him back. Do you understand?” Nozel was silent, as was Fuegoleon.
“After everything I have done, why are you still defending me?” Zenon looked at you confused; he couldn’t understand why. You just smiled at him. “You’re my brother, are you not? You’ve always looked out for me. Trained me. Protected me. Especially from our terrible excuses for siblings. You’re… my family.” You answered honestly. Zenon shook his head, the ghost of a smile on his face, “I see.” “But he’s gone now, right?” You didn’t look at Zenon but instead at Gimodelo. “Yeah, I promise. He’s gone now” Zenon assured you, placing a hand on his own chest. You looked back at your brother, “your face hasn’t looked like that since right after Allen died. It looks better this way.” “Hm?” Zenon tilted his head at you, a little antic he’d always done when he wasn’t possessed by Beelzebub. “Between the mark being gone and you smiling again, you look just like you did. It makes me happy. So very happy.”
“I’m not going to leave you again. I promise. I’ll make sure you never have to be unhappy again. It’s a promise.” You looked at your brother, “thank you, brother… Let’s go home.”
