Wait, he Told me Something Different!

Summary:

LUtober #12: Eye

Each member of the Chain asks Time how he lost his eye and he gives each of them a response.

Work Text:

“Hey Old Man, how did you lose your eye?”

“I once had to take a blue cucco into the Lost Woods and after I tried to return it to its owner, it doubled back and attacked me.”

“Are you sure you weren't color blind beforehand? There’s no such thing as blue cuccos.”

Time only smirked at Legend, looking more confused by the second, before walking away to remove his armor for the night.

~~~
“You never mentioned how you lost your eye. How did it happen?”
“When I was fighting the moon a jagged chunk fell off and hit my head, cutting through my eye. From there on out I made sure that the moon didn’t forget what it had done.”
“So you really did fight the moon?!” Wind asked, excited to hear the story behind it, whether it be true or not.
“It was threatening to destroy a town, so I used everything in my power to stop it. Unfortunately, it was attempting to do the same, but I was able to come out the victor.”
“Does your world just, not have a moon now?”
“Oh no, it still exists, it just can’t harm anyone anymore.”
“‘Cause that’s not fucking ominous,” Wind mumbled.
“Language!” Twilight desperately tried to employ as he walked by, only getting more curses in response.
~~~

“What’s the story behind your eye, sprite? Surely it must have been something powerful given your fighting abilities.”

“I thought it would be fun to sneak up on Sheik to play a prank. Needless to say, he was not pleased and didn’t fully realize who was behind him. He apologized for weeks before I had to ask him to stop and admire the precision at which my eye was cut.”

Warriors let out a long whistle. “I don’t believe that story for one second, but I could see something like that happening. Honestly, anyone in that situation would be lucky to make it out alive.”

~~~
“Hey Time, how did you-”
“I was running with a dagger and tripped over a stick. No, I haven’t learned my lesson and yes, I will be doing it again.”
“That wasn’t what I was going to ask you, but thanks for sharing, I guess.”
“You’re welcome.” With that Time walked away from Four who only just realized he hadn’t had the chance to ask how Time’s sword was forged.
~~~

Sky had a very pensive look on his face before he asked Time what happened that caused him to lose an eye.

“I was determined to be the best at horseback archery so I would consistently go to the track and practice. One day, some others were there practicing and as I went around the track, I didn’t notice one was shooting at a target near me. Obviously, they missed the target, but I think they hit a real bullseye.”

Sky sighed a breath of relief at the story before he sat up straighter and rethought what Time had just said. He looked up and stared at his face with utter betrayal and disappointment. Time just smiled at Sky’s pain.

~~~
“Hey, Time, I’ve been meaning to ask you: how did you injure your eye?”
“Well, much like you I had to fight a shadow of myself to prove my worth. When I went to attack, it also did and slashed at my eye. I didn’t have any potions or fairies on me at the moment and it left a scar. Though I do wonder what could have happened otherwise.”
Hyrule seemed to consider this for a moment before shrugging faer shoulders. “It still might have scarred over, but if you had access to healing you might have been able to keep sight in it. Hard to say though.”
~~~

“Wild, why did you think shield surfing down a volcano would be a good idea?”

“I never thought it would be a good idea, I just thought it would be fun.”

“You know, it was that kind of thinking that cost me my eye. Do you want that to happen to you?”

Rather than feel guilty as they should have, Wild only grinned wider before responding. “I mean, no cause that looks kinda painful, but I’ve already died a couple times and it can’t be worse than that, right? Anyway, it looks badass, like you hunt people down for a living. So yeah, I’d want it to happen.”

“What if I said that I did hunt people for a living?”

“Well, then I would believe you and ask for advice.” Time quickly realized he was getting nowhere with her, sighing before walking away to leave Twilight to deal with his protégé.

~~~
The Chain had recently set up camp and everyone was relaxing into conversation. Twilight had a serious look on his face before he asked Time the age-old question of how he lost an eye.
Time briefly considered telling his pup the truth, but realized the chaos it would bring if he didn’t say what really happened. Speaking a bit louder than necessary and getting the attention of all the heroes, “For a brief moment I was fighting for Hyrule as a knight. I was sent with a group to defeat a small gathering of Gerudo who were causing problems. In the middle of the fight, I went to the aid of a fellow knight when a Gerudo took the chance to stab me with their spear. I almost got out of the way, but I didn’t quite make it.”
Silence covered the camp. It soon exploded as nearly everyone began yelling about how Time had told them all different stories. They began trading what he said and Time could only look on and gleefully smile at the chaos he had created.
