Deny, Lie And Defy

Summary:

There’s a future that wasn’t waiting for them, but they took it anyway. There’s a future somewhere far away but it does not matter now. For now, it’s just them pointing to archers shooting bears and men of water befriending the fish. It’s them and it’s now. How could they ever want anything else?

So they deny, lie and defy. They are happier in the end.

or:
Whoever said you couldn't live with the lies was a liar.

Work Text:

Two people in a closed-off field, hands intertwined and hot breaths on each other’s faces. They were not in love.

“It feels like I have known you for so long,” and the truth was, it had just been so long since they had known each other at all.

“I feel it too,” the other said and understood it just as much. They did not know each other at all but still somehow understood one and other perfectly and wonderfully.

In a far future, they will live together, and they will be happy. That day when they were lying on that grass field, grass still damp from the night, there had been an unspoken oath of silence. They would never talk about it ever again. They’ll deny it for the rest of the days they spend alive and living.

In a far future, they will have forgotten about the lies they told each other that day because those same lies had become the truth. The line between the two had blurred too much and now there was nothing but the people they had wanted to be that faithful day under the north star. It was better than what could have been if they had not. They will keep lying forever and it won’t matter.

In a far future, they will be together no matter how hard the universe had tried to pull them apart. They were never meant to be together. But if every part that made you yourself is replaced with some lie that you want it to be, can the universe even tear you apart anymore? If there’s nothing left of the person you once were, is there anything left to rip apart in the first place? Like Theseus’ ship, slowly rebuilt with other materials? It does not matter. No matter what, they will continue to defy the universe until they’re lying next to each other in their graves, hands reaching out towards the other and fingers touching the warm soil. It will be them.

It was obvious what they were. They were pristine, nothing else had ever fit so perfectly, but they could easily pretend it meant perfect because that’s what they wanted it to be.

Notes:

Bro. I wrote this in like ten minutes and I fucking despise it. But I've grown too attached to it not to post it.
