Work Text:
'Cherish the ones you love before they forget about it.'
That's what Holmes always told her.
He started to bring it up more after John's disappearance.
She doesn't know if there's anything more she'd want to do than cherish her own lover, too.
Before she forgets.
.
.
Amelia gently places her hand on the cold, rocky cliffside.
She's holding out her other hand to grab Gura's. Every step she takes must be taken into careful precision.
"H-.. pant How much.. pant longer? pant " the voice from behind her speaks shakily.
"Just a li~ttle further. C'mon, you got this!"
The pair venture up further into the peaks of the mountain. Amelia's stomping on the ledges repeatedly like she's putting out a fire with her shoe before actually stepping onto it, making sure there was no wobbling.
Finally, the two arrive at the tippity-top of the mountain. The silver-haired girl's got her tongue sticking out like an overheating dog. Amelia's got her eyes set on Gura's slightly pathetic face, giving a short giggle before speaking.
"We're here, Gura."
The blonde-haired girl sits down, prompting the other to do the same. Amelia softly hums as the Atlantean rests her head onto the detective's shoulder.
"Ame, look at the view."
There's a beautiful sunset in front of the two. The sky is a lushious flamingo-pink, setting off vibrant hues into the atmosphere around it. Red-oranges are sinking back into the horizon line as does the yolk-like setting sun. Pretty scales of blue are crowding the edges of what the two could see, almost as if it was the sky's protective blanket over the precious moment.
The gorgeous sight almost puts the ebbing and flowing of the ocean's waves below them out of earshot.
Crash, flow.
Crash, flow.
Crash, -
"Amelia."
"Hm?"
"Why'd you bring me here?"
The detective inhales gently, trying her hardest not to let Gura hear it.
She exhales the same way.
"Well, today actually marks the 6,000th year since we've met, stinky. I thought I wouldn't do something crazy for our anniversary again like I did with 3,692 or 4,639."
"Umm.. What happened in 3,972 again, was it?"
She laughs to herself. It's always nice seeing that Gura's never changed.
"I just love you a lot. ..And I hope you know that." The blonde-haired girl shifts her hand, intertwining her fingers with Gura's. She fixates her view onto the shark girl's nail polish, a pretty sky-blue that was fading as her nails grew.
"I can't stop time. There's nothing I can do to make things last forever. I'll always feel guilty for leaving behind another you from a different timeline."
"It's okay, Amelia. You don't have to stay."
The detective stutters. She hadn't heard Gura refer to her as 'Amelia' in a while. It was always 'Ame' or 'Watson', occasionally 'Watton'.
She speaks in a rushed, slightly hoarse tone, "S-Stop, Gura. That's not what I meant."
Gura sits up and locks eyes with Amelia: ocean blues with sky blues. "Ame."
"Gura."
"Ame.~" She giggles.
"Gura.~" She grins.
The Atlantean lets out a sigh of relief as she rests her head back to where it was before. "I love you too, Sunshine." Amelia feels the shark's smile on her shoulder.
That was another one. Gura had always referred to Amelia as her sunshine. Even when they first met, Gura naturally insulted the time-traveler's hair color when she poofed into Altantis. Gura claimed that she colored it with the blood from a whole school of yellow tangs (which is scientifically inaccurate and completely untrue).
Despite her antics, Gura found a reason to call the detective sunshine, her sunshine.
Atlantis, admittedly, was boring. Nothing to do really, no fun games, strict parents who also happened to be the rulers of the kingdom, no french fries. A lose-lose situation for Gura.
When she first met Amelia, she was a sort of hope that there was more out there than what was already there for her at Atlantis. It was selfish, yes, but it was also a possibility.
Now that Gura had seized the moment and taken that possibility, making it into her reality, she was at peace. Atlantis had inevitably crumbled and she found herself back to the drawing board: She lost her home city, her family, her friends, everything she's ever known and loved before coming up to the surface.
But now that she's got her sunshine by her side...
"I.." Amelia starts. "I'm gonna stay with you for as long as I can..! Alright, Gura..?"
Her voice was quivering, almost as if she was about to cry.
Gura snuggles her silver locks into the nook of Amelia's neck, fitting perfectly like fresh molding clay.
"I don't know how you're feeling right now, Ame, and I don't think I ever will. But what I know for sure is that you're my mine."
Gura lifts her head and the two face each other.
"I love you, Watson. I love you so much." Gura holds Amelia's hands and raises them up, placing them on her own chest. "I'll wait forever for you, y'know? Heh.. You could come back two minutes after going wherever you need to go and I'd still hug you as tightly as I'd do after an eternity apart."
"There's nothing more that I want than to stay with you forever, Gura."
Amelia traces Gura's cheek and pinches it lightly, emitting a sweet giggling that transitioned into a hum out of the shark girl.
"I love you, Sunshine."
