Work Text:

Luz stood in the bathroom, eyes tracing the cut across her eyebrow. It would likely scar.

At one point, she would've thought it looked sick. After all, it showed she'd faced one of the greatest evils and survived, but now, all it did was make her feel sick.

They'd defeated Belos, but at what cost? The possible death of everyone in the Boiling Isles? All her friends losing everything and near everyone they'd ever known? That didn't feel like a victory to her.

She pried her hands from the sink, forcing herself to look away from the mirror. Luz knew thinking like that did no one any good, but she couldn't help it. When she was alone, it was so much easier to fall into her own head.

She shook her head and stepped out of the bathroom. She had to be strong. In comparison to everyone else, she had gotten out the best. She'd only called the Boiling Isles home for a few months, after all, and they'd all came out with scars. Physical and emotional.

She forced a smile and poked her head into the living room. "Shower's open," She said, before heading into the kitchen to redress her injuries.

Amity sat at the table, quietly rereading one of Luz's Azura books.

"Hey," Luz said.

Amity looked up and gave her a smile. "Hey."

Luz smiled back. She walked to the cabinet and pulled out the first aid kit.

"Want some help?" Amity asked.

"Sure."

Luz sat down in the chair in front of her, handing over the bag.

Amity pulled out some ointment, and began to apply it. "What's wrong, Sweet Potato?"

Luz's heart stuttered. "Wrong? Nothing..." She trailed off, looking at her girlfriend's concerned expression. "I..."

Luz couldn't bring herself to lie to Amity.

"You don't have to stay strong for us," Amity said softly.

Luz sighed, fully letting any semblance of her confident facade slip off. "I— I don't know what to do. I have to— this is all my fault. I'm the reason Belos even..." She trailed off, looking into her lap in shame.

"You did the best you could. None of us could've predicted what happened."

"There's no telling what the Collector is putting everyone through back in the Demon Realm, assuming..."

Amity just nodded when Luz couldn't bring herself to say what they'd likely all been thinking. Assuming the draining spell hadn't killed everyone first. Amity finished up with the bandages, pressing a kiss to Luz's forehead.

"We have to find a way back," Luz whispered, looking into Amity's eyes.

"We will. There has to be a way to cross between realms besides the door."

"Yeah, Belos had to end up there somehow."

"Exactly," Amity said. "We can do this."

Luz gave her a small smile. "Yeah. Yeah, we can."

Notes:

I wrote and scheduled this as celebration of the new season starting tonight. I've never wrote for The Owl House before, but I can definitely get behind angsty Luz lol.
