Work Text:

The moment Jeffrey Master confessed to a crime he didn't commit, Gregory's life falls apart. He, himself, falls apart. The way he desperately tried to stop Master from doing such a hasty act went in vain as the Judge hand down his verdict.

And the verdict was ‘Guilty’.

Gregory could feel the strength leaving his body as he held onto the bench for dear life. Was he wrong? Is it his fault that Tyrell is being questioned about his worth as a detective just because he recorded something completely useless now that Gregory has failed? Was he investigation for nothing? A year of nothing? He did all of that for what? For what? What was he trying to protect? To gain from this? When the client himself has given up on finding the truth?

Gregory feels pathetic. How can he face everyone who had helped him throughout the year of this silly investigation? This investigation probably ruined a lot of lives. Gregory risked so many things. So why? Why couldn't they at least get something out of this case? It's all nothing! Nothing now. Master is going to jail and Manfred is smirking at him. Smirking.. haha. That guy must've been crazy about his perfect record to do all of these.

After everyone had left the courtroom, he breaks down. Gregory stares down at the bench– at the papers, at every notes he wrote to save Master– to prove his innocence. It's all for naught apparently. Master didn't want to be saved, all he wanted was for his adoptive daughter, Katherine Hall to be put out of this mess. This misery. Well, maybe Gregory's the one who's in misery right now.

He's almost glad that he proposed to Miles to watch his other trials instead of this one. Or else he'll be seeing his father acting like a complete failure. A pathetic man trying to save his client by all means– but he couldn't. Couldn't even get a lighter punishment for the man! He even started begging but.. but the verdict is still ‘Guilty’.

What is he supposed to do now? Cry? He's already crying. So much tears came out of his eyes which blinded his sight– making his already nearsighted vision worse.

Then at one moment, Gregory's mind just went blank. He started packing up, wiping his tears away and he exited the courthouse. It's raining. He let the rain pour onto his delicate and small body as he make an effort of searching his car. There were so much people at the courthouse today and Gregory was forced to park his car a little bit further away than everyone else. It's December– why were there so many people at the courthouse? He let out a small sigh as the rain got heavier and he started running. Finally, he found his car and got in.

And now his body is shaking from the cold of the rain water. He took off his jacket and put it away. His favourite one and only car being drenched in rain water just because he's having a mental breakdown is so great, isn't it? He wiped his glasses clean and started driving. To where? He doesn't know. He just wanted to be alone.

He needed to escape reality just for a minute more.

-Two days later-

Gregory had been missing for two days. Two goddamn days and Tyrell is slowly losing his sanity. When he came home after the IS-7 trial– he was hoping that he could go ahead and comfort Gregory until he fall asleep in his arms but no. He was greeted with a very worried Miles, their son– Miles Edgeworth was crying.

Apparently, Gregory didn't come home at all. People saw him leaving the courtroom, being absolutely broken down and beaten from his failure on the case and drove his car away. And yet– no one could tell him where Gregory actually drove to? Where was his destination?! Why can't he figure it out? Where is his husband? Why are all of these happening to them?! That accursed Von Karma is going to pay for this.

Gregory is an absolute angel. He have a good soul and his kindness was just too much. Sometimes, Tyrell teases him– calls him naive and Gregory would laugh along and told him that Tyrell is even more naive for being in love with him. A man who is too empathetic for his own good, but for Tyrell, that's what makes Gregory beautiful. His good heart and his silly personality. What a goofball. He loves that man more than anything in the world.

He can't possibly afford to lose such an important person in his life right now. And Miles.. he has absolutely no heart to tell him that they haven't found anything on his father yet. That'll break the little boy's heart even more. He left Miles in the care of Phoenix's family and continue on with his investigation, promising the child that he will find his father no matter what.

After comforting Miles, he went on with his investigation till now. Not a single clue as to where Gregory might've fled to. He dismissed everyone and stayed at his office for hours until it's three in the morning.

A midnight drive wouldn't hurt, he thought. And that's what he did. A midnight drive to clear his messed up mind. Then he went on a little bit longer than expected, driving too far away from his home and stopped somewhere familiar, after seeing a familiar car, and a familiar figure barely breathing in the car.

He got out of his car, panic washing all over him. It's Gregory! He opened the car door– which is unlocked, he will scold Gregory about safety after he get his dumb ass to the hospital. He checked his pulse and of course, he almost couldn't find it and thought his husband might've died. Well, he's still breathing. His breathing is shallow but that's fine. As long as he get Gregory to the hospital, they'll be fine.

Right. They'll be fine.

Notes:
