Comfort

Work Text:

"Elysia, darling."

A voice sounded throughout the small room, alerting the young lycan to look up at where the voice came from.

"Come here?" A large hand came down to her level, being offered to her. Elysia stumbled up on her tiny legs and waddled over to the hand, hugging it instantly. The hand obliged and rubbed almost the lycan's entire body like a dog or a cat.

"Here, come sit with me." Another large hand came down and picked up Elysia. High, high in the air until she was sat down in her mother's lap. Elysia could somewhat see her mother's face comfortably, still craning her neck up.

They were in the atelier. A cozy, warm room with a high glass dome for the ceiling, paintings depicting women fighting against men on the walls, and unfinished paintings scattered against the walls. Alcina had been sketching a little portrait of Elysia on canvas, rough penciling and lines against the once clean canvas.

The sky had few clouds, and a bright blue sky that gave light into the room. The windows on the dome ceiling were open, giving a gentle spring breeze into the small room.

Alcina sat with Elysia in her lap, her free hand continued to pencil in Elysia's face. The lycan also continued to bite into whatever chew toy she had been biting, making little grumbling noises like a young puppy.

"Careful, I don't want you pulling out a tooth doing that." Alcina smiled fondly, scratching Elysia's head with one finger.

"May I ask you something, Ellie?" Alcina questioned, looking down and paused on her sketching. Elysia looked up and wiped the drool from her mouth with a sleeve. She nodded a few seconds later.

"Do you feel comfortable here?"

Of course, Elysia was only three years old, and it had been a month since she was given a specific serum to give her intelligence a little boost. But that didn't mean she couldn't think about the question for a minute. Elysia nodded, which prompted Alcina to add to her question.

"Even amidst all of the chaos? The bustling of maids and my daughters' flies going everywhere?"

Elysia looked down. The maids weren't terrible, although they liked to stare at her a lot. The sisters and their antics, well... Elysia was too young to really figure that out, especially on her own.

She eventually nodded. She felt comfy here. It was better then being locked down in a basement, chained to a wall and unable to move. Elysia had comfy clothes and pajamas, she had a soft bed to sleep in (something which she's still unaccustomed to), and things to keep her warm, and food and shelter. She wasn't aware of any of those things before, she didn't even know what light was. It was so blinding to her, it was almost worse then being in total darkness.

Elysia let out a big yawn, and a tiny squeak. Alcina smiled and kissed her head, rising from her seat, picking up the small blanket off of the floor and exiting the atelier.

Well, that answer was something. When Elysia wasn't so tired and ready for her nap, she'll have to try and ask her what could be done to make her more comfortable.

For now, this would do.
