Chapter Text
The sound of birds chirping, cars honking, or even sounds from his three-year-old son, was a common way for the 25-year-old police officer, BangChan, to wake up.
But today BangChan woke up with a weird feeling in his chest, it felt as if something wrong was about to happen, but honestly , what could happen to him?
The whole house was silent, and that was a clear indication that his son was still asleep. He shook his head to get rid of the weird feeling and sat on his bed. He turned to see his three-year-old son and as he had expected, his son was sleeping without a care in the world.
BangChan gave a small smile. He slowly got up from his bed and head towards the bathroom. Being a police officer sure had its perks , Bang Chan thought as he looked at his bathroom. Sure he'd been using the bathroom for three years now, but he still got surprised sometimes. He got a free, luxurious house and a handsome salary. What more could BangChan need?
BangChan brushed his teeth and took a quick shower. He wanted to have a long bath but had to hurry and wake his son up for daycare. He went out and quickly got dressed in his Olive green uniform. BangChan silently made his way to the window, and opened the curtains, letting the warm sunlight spill in. The sunlight was rare in winter, he should take advantage of it while it was here.
Three-Year-old Jeongin was no fan of mornings, especially Monday mornings when he woke up without his father by his side. He woke with a whine and an irritated expression on his face. He glared at his dad who was smiling softly. While Jeongin thought he looked mad, in reality, he looked utterly adorable, like a little boy threatening his dad. Which he was.
"Morning baby, did you sleep well?" BangChan tenderly asked his son, while ruffling his curly hair.
"No, I wanna sleep more!" Jeongin whined. BangChan smiled, as much as he would love for Jeongin to sleep more, they were running out of time.
"Maybe tomorrow, baby." BangChan said, "Right now, you have to get dressed and eat breakfast."
Jeongin pouted and got up from the bed. As much as he would like to whine about his lack of beauty sleep, he knew his dad had a tough job. Jeongin didn't want to be the reason his dad got late to work. Jeongin was pretty responsible for a four-year-old boy, perhaps it was because of his mother's early death.
Jeongin had a quick bubble bath and got dressed in comfy clothes. The father and son duo had a quick breakfast and got ready to leave. BangChan held open the door for his son and as soon as Jeongin got out, he closed and locked the door. He looked at Jeongin skipping towards the car with a smile.
It suddenly hit BangChan how lucky he was to have Jeongin in his life. He knew he would cherish Jeongin forever.
"Dad! Hurry up!" Jeongin said. He wanted to hurry and go meet his friends at daycare and it was freezing here. BangChan smiled, his dimples popping out. His life seemed perfect, and what could ruin such a perfect life?

Hyunjin stood in the dimly lit room. His throat felt dry and his hands shook when he kept them at his sides. No matter how much of a good assassin he was, he always felt terrified when the boss read his reports. But what was there to be scared of? Hyunjin reasoned with himself. Surely he'd done a good job?
Boss slammed the papers on the table, breaking Hyunjin's train of thought. Hyunjin kept his eyes on the table, not daring to look up.
"So the target has been eliminated?" Boss asked. Of course you moron, that's what's written in the report! Hyunjin thought in his head. But outside, he respectfully nodded his head.
"Yes boss," Hyunjin said. Boss smiled. Hyunjin almost had a heart attack, did the boss just ... smile ? Boss, who had killed over a thousand people, the boss who was rumoured to have the so-called 'no-smile syndrome'?
Boss got up and walked towards the window.
"Hyunjin, you have been a great assist for Al Capone Mafia." Boss began. Hyunjin's eyes widened and his heart froze with fear. This is what he says to members of the mafia before killing them, right? "You've done this task in three days, even though I gave you five"
Boss gestured to the report. Hyunjin gave a fearful nod. What goes on in the moron's head, is a mystery to be solved
"You joined this Mafia five years ago, didn't you?" Boss asked. Hyunjin cleared his throat.
"S-six, sir," Hyunjin said. Boss hummed.
"Very well, Hyunjin. Very well indeed. " Boss said with a sigh. Hyunjin started praying in his head, he should have been better to his friends. He should have told his mom he loved her. He should have apologized to his father for not being a good son, not that his father was ever a good father to him.
Mom, I love you. Hyunjin thought while he screwed his eyes shut, and braced himself for the impact.
"I've chosen you for something very important."
Hyunjin's eyes stayed close. Yeah, to die .
Boss threw a folder near him and he slowly opened his eyes, there was a picture of a man, a quite handsome one.
The first thought that came to Hyunjin's mind when he saw the man was, What a handsome man! And the second was a bit more sympathetic, poor man, what horrible crime did he commit to having his photo in the boss's office?
"This is Christopher Bang." Boss said "He was in Al Capone Mafia a long time ago. He was strong, smart, and also very handsome. Which proved to be useful when we had to seduce someone. "
Ok, cool . Hyunjin thought Why are you telling me this? Outside he respectfully kept his eyes on the photo.
"He did something unforgivable." Boss continued. "He left the Mafia and became a goddamn police officer ."
Boss slammed his hand on the table, his voice dropping with venom.
Hyunjin's eyes widened, but this time, it wasn't with fear. Rather, he was shocked.
Ok, the man totally deserved to have his picture in the boss's office. Nobody, not even a single soul, could betray their mafia and get away with it. becoming a police officer was a different thing.
"We've sent many strong men to kill him. Every one of them failed. M iserably." Boss said and looked directly at Hyunjin. "You have one month to kill him."
Hyunjin nodded. He could do this right? He's killed police officers before, he reasoned with himself.
Yeah, but not police officers who were part of the mafia once! He would know all my tricks!
Boss turned around. A silent dismissal. Hyunjin took the file and turned around to leave and when he was finally at the door, the boss stopped him.
"Hyunjin." Hyunjin paused and turned around, this was the first time boss had called him by his name. He was surprised the boss even knew his name. "I expect this to be done in two weeks."
Hyunjin licked his dry lips.
"I do have a month right, sir?" Hyunjin asked in a quivering voice. Boss nodded and Hyunjin finally left.
Holy shit, he thought after coming out of the room, What a day.

BangChan walked out of the station during his lunch break. His friend, Minho, would probably be waiting for him near the doughnut shop. He was almost five minutes late. Minho would probably kill him as soon as he got there. He was not patient and kind.
He started to quickly walk toward the doughnut shop. His boots on the snow made a crunching sound, which was barely audible next to all the people talking and walking. He quickly arrived near the doughnut shop.
Just as BangChan was about to go in he bumped into a man and the man fell to the ground. Bangchan was confused for a few seconds, did the man just, fall?
BangChan quickly recovered from the shock and crouched down next to the man. Was he that strong that he pushed a man down?
"Are you ok?" BangChan asked in concern. The man looked up, and BangChan felt all the air leaving his system. The man was breathtaking. He was the epitome of beauty. With his double eyelids and a mole near his eye, he was breathtaking.
It was as if the man had stepped out of an anime. Even though the mask the man was wearing coved half of his face, BangChan could still make out most of his features.
"It's ok," The man said, and BangChan felt the air leaving his system for the second time. He didn't know why he expected a gruff voice, but what greeted him was a soft honey-like voice.
With the mask, looks and voice, BangChan wouldn't be surprised if the man was an idol.
"I'm sorry," BangChan said apologetically. The man smiled. His eyes crinkled at the side and his eyes sparkled. He laughed. His laugh was a cool autumn breeze; an invigorating breath of life. It was contagious.
His eyes looked innocent as if he still hadn't been corrupted from life, as if he hadn't seen the horrible side of life. BangChan suddenly wanted to protect the man from everything.
"I said it was ok," The man got up and held out his hand to BangChan. BangChan looked at his outstretched hand. Wasn't he the one who pushed the man down? Wasn't he the one who was supposed to offer his hand?
BangChan took his hand and got up. The stranger got up, and bangchan got a whiff of his perfume. He had a very distinctive smell, with a mixture of Pastries and Coffee.
The man gave a polite bow and started to leave.
"Wait!" BangChan stopped him, The man turned around. "What's your name?"
"Hyunjin. Hwang Hyunjin, it was nice meeting you" The man, Hyunjin, said, smiled and disappeared among the crowd. BangChan stood there awestricken. He looked down at his hand. Hyunjin... he thought. Even though he had just met the man, he was completely whipped.
Suddenly, a shoe came flying at his head. He gasped and looked back in alarm. Minho was standing there, holding another shoe in his hand.
"What are you doing there Chris?!" Minho shouted, attracting looks from onlookers. "I've been waiting here for hours already!"
BangChan grimaced and went inside the shop, pushing Minho out of the way, who grinned before following him.
"Don't think I didn't see that out there¬" Minho sang, but Bangchan paid no attention.
His mind was occupied with thoughts. Thoughts of Hyunjin.
-------------------------------------
Hyunjin quickly hid in an alley and removed the stifling mask. Step one was a success. BangChan looked mesmerized by his beauty. Hyunjin smiled. He was a very handsome man.
Shit . He had completely forgotten to put on his vanilla-scented perfume. But whatever, the plan had worked, and that was all that mattered.
Hyunjin took out his book and decided to move to step two. He got in his car and drove towards BangChan's house. It took a bit of searching, but Hyunjin arrived there in approximately half an hour. He looked up at the mansion and whistled. BangChan sure had a fancy place. He was about to head in when his phone started ringing.
It was the boss. Hyunjin quickly picked up his phone.
"Hello, sir?" Hyunjin said in a quiet voice. He wasn't sure if anyone was home.
"Change of plans, Hyunjin," Boss said. "You don't have to kill BangChan. At least, not now."
"What do I have to do, sir?" Hyunjin asked. He could feel his boss smirking. What he heard made his heart drop. Nevertheless, Hyunjin agreed and cut the phone.
Hyunjin's eyes filled with tears. He couldn't do this. He wasn't a monster! He had done horrible things in his life, but he couldn't do this. He was about to start thinking of a plan when he heard the bushes rustle.
He snapped his head towards the bushes. He was about to go closer when he didn't hear anything, that was when someone fired a gun. He felt everything go blank. He couldn't hear anything except the thoughts inside his head.
Vaguely he felt a pair of strong arms pick him up, The movement put a bit of pressure on his wound. He let out a pained whimper.
His body felt like it were on fire, and the boss's words kept ringing in his ears.
"Kill the child instead,"
