Chapter Text
Jaune just wanted to go check out the street fair, possibly pick up a few gifts for his sisters, but after the escapade RWBY pulled with the Paladin, they weren’t allowed to leave Beacon without supervision. Apparently, Jaune was the only person qualified to wrangle them, somehow. Then again, he did put up with Nora’s pancakes and explosions, Ren’s chronic sleeping and almost poisonous health shakes, and Pyrrha’s secret chocolate obsession and utter lack of domestic skills like cleaning or doing her own laundry. Maybe the teachers had a point. Either way, that’s why the most stir-crazy member of RWBY was tagging along with him to the minor carnival. She was eagerly stopping at every booth and looking at their entire stock. The food stands were by far her favorite (his too), but she seemed to be looking rather intently for something. “Yang, can I help you with anything?” Jaune asked as he tapped her on the shoulder. “You seem like you’re looking for something special.”
“Well, sort of. It’s my fault the Paladin did so much damage, so I’m trying to find apology gifts for my team. I’m just having some trouble deciding what to get for them.” She explained. “I know I’ll get something great for Ruby, but I can’t have a great present for her and two mediocre ones. And I can’t get Ruby a mediocre one when I know she’ll love something else!”
Jaune smiled. “That’s how I feel when shopping for my sisters.” Jaune agreed. “Let me help. In Weiss’ case, pick the exact opposite of what I think is good.” Yang laughed at the reference to his incredibly embarrassing flirting attempts with the Atlesian heiress. “As for Blake, she seems like the type to enjoy something small and understated, but still with enough personality and charm to show the thought put into it. And like you said, you know Ruby better than anyone. Am I wrong on anything?” He asked.
“You didn’t give me an idea for Weiss.” Yang teased. “But nope. You gave me a good place to start.” She began looking for something, and Jaune joined her. “What are you doing?”
“Helping you, of course.” Jaune responded without looking up. “That’s what friends do. Remember that next time you try to fight a giant robot without Nora’s help. Just because you four are incredibly skilled doesn’t mean you’re invincible. Everyone needs help every now and then. Even the strongest among us.” Jaune smiled at her before looking down. “Oh, what about this for Blake?” He asked. A small violet ribbon bookmark with an amber accent. “She’s always reading after all, and her bookmark seems rather ragged.”
“I thought you were crushing on Weiss-cream.” Yang teased as she examined the bookmark. “This is a good choice though. Better than the bell and ball of yarn over there.” It was a joke, but Jaune was worried she might have chosen something she found funny rather than something Blake would actually find useful.
“Were crushing.” Jaune agreed. “Past-tense. I moved on.” He smiled. And he wasn’t lying. Now, his affections ran towards another girl. One who was – again – out of his league, but in a different way.
“Aw, but you two would look so cute together.” Yang pouted before paying for the bookmark. “Anything you see that your sisters would like?”
“Noire’d like this bookmark, but then Blanche would get upset that she doesn’t have one too. But I can’t get the twins two gifts each and not get my other sisters two as well.” Jaune sighed. “I’ll get them both stuffed animals again. They’re still young enough to appreciate those.” He did pick up a set of matching bookmarks for Saph and Terra though. “Okay, a sister and her wife down, six to go.” Jaune smiled as Yang’s jaw dropped next to him. Oh how he loved those reactions.
Yang got Weiss a new pale blue planner as her old one was getting rather full. Jaune took that opportunity to buy Rouge a collection of pens in various colors. She loved journaling, as it seemed all middle school girls did, so she’d appreciate them a lot. Ruby would be getting a corgi in a strawberry while Blanche and Noire would be getting a kitten and a puppy stuffed animal respectively. Four sisters down and all of RWB taken care of. “So, what can I do to help you for the last three sisters?” Yang asked. “You were a big help with my team, so it’s the least I can do to pay you back.” She held up a hand as he tried to protest that there was nothing to pay back. “Come on, VB. Let me have this one.” Jaune sighed and began walking through the festival with her again.
When they got into a particularly crowded section, jewelry and books and clothes, they nearly got separated before Jaune took Yang’s hand and pulled her out of a bike’s way. The driver shouted an apology back, even as Yang and Jaune were caught in an embrace. ‘She smells so good.’ Jaune thought as he inhaled the scent of vanilla and chamomile and lilacs with just the hint of something smoky. They separated, but kept holding hands so they wouldn’t lose each other in the crowd. “So, Violette is a chef, which means jewelry is probably not the best idea. I’m thinking a new apron is a good idea, something with a pun on it. She loves puns, though she won’t admit it.” Jaune explained to Yang as she smirked.
“Puns are something that I pant seem to escape.” Yang joked as Jaune laughed. She looked shocked at him laughing at her pun. “D-Did you just laugh?”
“Yes? I always laugh, I just do it quietly so I don’t bother the others. I know they don’t like the jokes, so I didn’t want to start an argument.” Jaune explained as Yang teared up and hugged him tightly.
“Thank you, Jaune.” She whispered. “Thank you so much.” Jaune frowned as he didn’t know why she was thanking him. For having a good sense of humor? Anyway, they managed to find a light pink apron that said Peas kiss the chef with a set of green cartoon peas kissing each other in a heart. “Two left to go, right?” Yang asked. “What do they like?”
“Jeanne’s easy enough, that’s where I’m going next.” Jaune smiled as he led her out of the crowds towards the random knick-knacks and oddball items that every festival and fair must have somewhere. Trinkets and that sort of thing. Jaune and Jeanne used to waste all their money on various things like this, though Jeanne never grew a sense of moderation for it like Jaune did. “The trick to finding a good gift for my twin sister is to find what I’d like the best,” He began as he picked up a compass/multi-survival-tool that had a mechashift component. “And find a flashier version of it.” He finished as he found the same one but in yellow instead of gray. Of course, this stand was also an antiques stall, so it was a little pricier than it should have been, but he preferred antiques like this because if they lasted this long, then they had to have been some help. Jaune had a sense for things like that. “Joan’s the hard one for me.” He admitted.
“Why?” Yang asked as she held onto his arm and leaned into him to avoid the crowds again. Jaune held back a blush at how close she was to him. “What’s she like?” He dared to glance down and saw a faint dusting of pink across her cheeks as well. ‘Glad it’s not just me.’ He thought before answering her.
“She’s amazing. A great Huntress, she was the top of her class at Beacon, and she’s like a second mom to me. She’s one of the reasons I want to be a Huntsman. Well, her and my grandpa.” Jaune explained. “But what to get her…” Jaune thought.
“What does she like to do?” Yang asked. “Any hobbies?” Jaune shook his head.
“No, she was always out on jobs or spending time with me or our sisters. Wait, that’s it!” Jaune realized as he led them back to the front of the festival where they could print out photos and frame them. Jaune purchased a white and gold one and sent a photo of him and his sisters when they were younger to be printed. He knew for a fact that it was Joan’s favorite photo, so he didn’t mind paying the extra cost for the photo not being at the festival.
“A family photo?” Yang asked. “That seems perfect for her.” She complimented his choice.
“I never would have come up with it without your help, Yang.” Jaune praised as he rented a locker and stored all their gifts in it. “Now, we still have some time.” He locked it up and connected it to his scroll. “I saw how you were looking at the various games and restaurants. What do you want to do?”
They went around, trying the majority of the carnival games. They won the strength test several times before they were banned from it after they were outed as Beacon students. Jaune got himself banned from the majority of the games because of growing up with seven sisters that all wanted prizes. He even managed to win at some of the rigged ones, though part of that was definitely luck. By the time they were eating dinner at a diner, they had to sit on the edge of the booth because of all the prizes and giant stuffed animals they won. Before they started looking for presents, they had lunch at the same diner, and the owner remembered them. Bringing out their order without even asking. Two triple all-beef burgers with bacon between each patty and the works on top. Though, the owner combined their milkshakes into one glass. The type of glass couples drank from on dates.
They just shrugged and drank it anyway, after all, they knew they weren’t a couple and that’s what mattered. The Bullhead back was quiet, even though Jaune could feel Yang sneaking glances at him the entire way. After they reached the dorms, Yang thanked him for letting her tag along, and Jaune walked outside and took a look at the stars from in front of the fountain. ‘Today was amazing.’ Jaune smiled. ‘Although that doesn’t do anything about my crush on her.’ He admitted before getting blindsided by a yellow blur. Yang tackled him, having stumbled over him in the dark. “Jaune?” Yang asked as he turned his scroll’s flashlight on. “I was looking for you.”
“Well, you found me.” He groaned as she helped him up. “Do you need anything?” He asked.
“Well,” Yang seemed shy for some reason. She was never shy. “Would you mind going back to Vale with me tomorrow?” The brawler asked. “And not for others, just for us?”
“Like a date?” He blurted out without thinking, hoping that the darkness would hide his blush.
“Yes, exactly like a date.” Yang nodded. “So, is that a yes?” Jaune nodded. In the faint light, he saw her smile before kissing him on the cheek. “Great! Let’s head down tomorrow morning, do you want to pick the time?”
“Sure. I’d love to.” Jaune admitted honestly. “How about 8?” She nodded.
“Sounds great. Maybe this time we can order the couple’s milkshake on purpose.” She teased as she walked away, making sure to accentuate the swaying of her hips before looking over her shoulder and winking.
A broad smile spread across Jaune’s face as he pumped his fist in the air and cheered silently. He began walking back towards the dorms when he heard a loud cheer resound from around the corner. He couldn’t resist and peered around to see Yang, frozen with her fist in the air. The dragoness blushed before speeding up the stairs and into her room. An even brighter blush formed on his face as he did the same, except to his room.

Chapter Text
The next day, Jaune and Yang opened their doors at the same time and gawked at each other before heading down to the Bullhead. Neither had recovered from their last encounter, but Jaune was more overwhelmed by Yang’s attire. Unlike the day before when she was wearing her usual outfit, this time she was wearing a yellow sundress the color of her hair with sandals and a large purple tote bag. ‘Apparently I’m not the only one who decided to look my best.’ Jaune thought with a soft smile as he looked down at his royal blue button up and nice jeans. “You look nice today, Yang.” Jaune told the brawler as they sat on the Bullhead. “Well, you look good every day, but this is a good look for you as well.” He clarified as Yang blushed slightly before smiling at him.
“You clean up real nice too, smooth talker.” Yang teased with a wink, though the slight blush never left her face.
“Anything you want to do today in particular?” Jaune asked as the short flight was nearly over already. “You asked me out after all.”
“Honestly, I just wanted to spend some time with you.” Yang admitted. “I usually don’t think that far ahead.”
Jaune nodded at that. “Okay, well, how about we see what’s new at the street fair first before possibly catching a movie?” Yang smiled at him. “Wait, I think I have the schedule for the fair downloaded…”
“Why?” Yang asked. “Were you planning on asking me out or something?” She leaned in close to his face.
“Yes, actually.” Jaune admitted. “If I had worked up the courage, then I would have. But I also have this because who knows if Ruby or Blake had enough of the house arrest and tried to make a break for it? I needed something to use as a cover with Goodwitch for them.”
“You’re a good friend, Jaune.” Yang smiled before blushing as her brain finally caught what he said in the beginning. “W-Wait, you were actually planning on asking me out?”
“Um, yes?” Jaune frowned. “I’ve had a crush on you for a couple of weeks now. You’re just even farther out of my league that Weiss was, so I knew I didn’t have a chance. Or so I thought.” He amended when she glared at him a little.
“Jaune, we’ve got to work on your self confidence. When you stand up for yourself, you’re so handsome and charming, but then that confidence fades away as you shrink in on yourself.” Yang told him, gently taking his hand. “Let me help with that.”
“Alright.” Jaune smiled, causing the brawler to smile back at him. The Bullhead landed a few minutes later, and they walked to the street fair and began checking out the stalls. Apparently the game vendors recognized Jaune as they hid beneath their counters whenever the two blondes walked by. Jaune had seen something Yang might like while he was searching through the fair’s schedule, though it might not be the best idea. However, she found it first.
“A drinking contest?” Yang asked excitedly. “Come on! We’ve got this in the bag!” She laughed. “I have a sixth sense about how much alcohol people can drink, and you’re the first person my age to be near my limit!”
“Perks of growing up with wine and ale as the family’s goods.” Jaune smirked as they signed up for the contest and sat down at their respective gender’s tables. Jaune smiled as all the men seemed to be underestimating him. The women were doing the same with Yang, but not quite as much. When the announcer kicked off the contest, Jaune began drinking the pints of beer at a steady pace, not too fast, but not slow either. The men on either side began collapsing before Jaune stepped up the pace. He wasn’t much of a beer drinker, so he had to get used to the taste before he could go all out. Eventually, the bell rang and the contest ended. Jaune and Yang both drank over 15 pints, a new record for the fair, and neither of them were even buzzed. Well, Jaune wasn’t buzzed, but he grew up on hard ciders and ales around the holidays.
They sobered up at the diner with greasy breakfasts and coffee. “That was fun.” Yang said as she took another bite of sausage. “I wasn’t expecting you to start out so slow though.”
“I’m not a beer type of person.” Jaune shrugged. “Neither are you if that shudder at the start was any indication.”
She laughed at that. “True, I prefer my cocktails. Like a Strawberry Sunrise.” Yang admitted. “What about you?”
“Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer ales and honeyed mead.” Jaune smirked as Yang caught the pun he snuck in. “Mostly for nostalgia because those were what my grandpa first taught me how to brew. I’ll drink wine, though it’s not my favorite, and even whiskey and hard ciders are alright, but nothing beats the spiced ale that my grandpa brewed with me every winter as a kid.”
“You can brew ales?” Yang asked in amazement. “That’s so cool! Did you smuggle any into Beacon?”
“No, I didn’t want to get expelled or punished by Goodwitch.” They both shivered at that. “Even though I could probably bribe her with a bottle of her favorite wine from our vineyard, it’s not worth it.” Jaune explained. “If you give me your address though, I can send you a sample box of our best sellers.” He offered.
“Nah, I’d rather try them in person with you.” Yang leaned on the table and rested her cheek on her hand while smiling at him. “I want to see your face light up as you talk about your personal history with each of the drinks, just like you’re doing now.” Jaune blushed a little at that.
“What about you?” Jaune asked. “What do you like to do? When you’re not sparring or training of course.”
“Well, I like performing maintenance on my bike.” Jaune nodded. “Clubbing’s always fun, but it’s getting a little tiring, you know? Like people are always expecting this level of energy from me and it’s hard to maintain.” Yang sighed as she admitted that. “With the dance coming up though, and Weiss’ insistence on it being more classical, I have been interested in learning how to dance like in the movies.”
“Ballroom dancing?” Jaune asked. “I could teach you.” He said easily. “Seven sisters, and at least three of them did dancing classes and ballet. Naturally, I helped them whenever possible, and I got pretty good at the dancing part. Not the ballet, I’m not that flexible.” Jaune and Yang both laughed at that before she looked in his eyes.
“I’m having a great time, Jaune. How about we try to catch that movie now?” She asked as Jaune nearly lost himself in the lilac pools that captured his gaze.
“S-Sure.” Jaune managed to respond. “What genre are you feeling like watching today?”
Yang thought about it for a moment as he paid for their meals and they started heading towards the theater. “Action? Preferably an action/comedy, but I’m not sure if any are out.” She snapped her fingers. “Ooh, what about a classic? Western or just a good all-around classic movie too.”
“All great choices…” Jaune admitted as he pulled up the theater’s current catalog. “Well, no action/comedy, no for Western, but there is a classic movie out. It’s a swashbuckler, so the action will definitely be there.” He told Yang who smiled. “Oh! And it’s a pirate movie.”
“Even better, let’s go!” She dragged him to the theater and impatiently waited as he bought the tickets. She was fidgeting as he got their popcorn and drink (because they’re sharing according to Yang), and practically leapt into her seat as Jaune shook his head fondly and sat down next to her. She immediately leaned onto his shoulder as she reached into the bucket and ate some popcorn.
The movie was delightfully distracting, almost as distracting as the scent of Yang’s hair on his shoulder as she never lifted her head from its spot on him. Every time she laughed, he could feel her head shake into his chest as his arm slowly wrapped its way around her. She looked up, causing him to freeze, before leaning into it and taking a drink out of their shared soda. The movie was in color, but it was clearly one of the earlier ones as the saturation was a bit off. It was called Captain Flamebeard and the Pirate Witch and was basically a romance with more puns and sword fighting. Naturally, they loved it.
“Ah…” Yang sighed as she stretched while they left the theater. “Nothing beats a good fight scene, right? Especially when puns are involved.”
“Can’t argue with that.” Jaune smiled as he took in how beautiful Yang looked in the sunlight. Since the movie was a classic, the runtime was notably shorter than modern ones. “Diner?” He asked as Yang smiled at him.
“Definitely! We’ve got another Couple’s Milkshake to drink.” Yang said cheerfully as she wrapped her arms around his left arm before letting him lead her back to the diner.
The diner owner welcomed them back, even cracking a joke about them being his most frequent customers before bringing them their usual: the large burgers and the milkshake. Jaune and Yang ate slowly for once, mainly because they were so busy losing themselves in each other’s eyes to actually focus on eating. On the Bullhead back, he didn’t really remember how they got there, they never broke eye contact until the last half of it when their eyes began mutually drifting towards the mouth. They were startled by a harsh landing, and hurried off before Jaune grabbed her wrist at the fountain and pulled her into a kiss in front of his ancestor’s statue.
“Jaune?” Yang asked breathlessly after they broke apart. “That was…” She never finished as she kissed him again.
“Perfect.” Jaune finished for her as they broke apart again. “When’s our next date? I don’t want to kiss out on another day with you.” He punned as she giggled.
“Oh, who cares?” Yang asked, carefree as she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him passionately. She practically leapt forward, causing him to stumble backwards before gripping her waist and holding her up. She shifted her weight, forcing his hands lower as she held onto him as she began making out with him. “I’ve never believed in going slow.” She apologized.
“I know, I’ve seen you drive.” Jaune joked as she playfully pouted before kissing him again. “Though,” he pulled away this time, eliciting another pout. “I don’t mind being your cruise control.”
“I’d say you’re more of the driver, helping me out on the brakes.” Yang shot back as she tightened her grip on him with her arms and legs.
“Is the mighty dragon going to let someone else take the wheel?” Jaune teased her as he kissed her neck.
“Every now and then, if I feel like it.” Yang shrugged, trying to seem indifferent, though the hammering heartbeat he could feel said otherwise.
“Yang.” Jaune said as she looked at him. “It’s too early to say this, but I love you.”
Yang sighed and smiled fondly at him. “I love you too, you silly knight.” She shook her head before kissing him again, leaving them both in a state of bliss.

Chapter Text
Meeting the Family
A few months after Jaune and Yang started dating, in the middle of summer break, Yang asked if the knight wanted to spend a week with her family on Patch. While he loved his sisters, he could use some relative peace and quiet. The fact that a house with Ruby and Yang in it was considered quiet said a lot about Jaune’s tolerance level. Of course, Yang being his girlfriend made the offer automatically accepted in Jaune’s mind. He was nervous; though, because this would be the first time he met Yang’s father. Taiyang Xiao Long: a teacher at Signal Academy, the man who taught Yang how to punch holes through Grimm. Yeah, why wouldn’t Jaune be terrified of his girlfriend’s bear of a father? “Jaune!” His girlfriend cried out when he landed. She didn’t rush forward, having experience with how that ended up after their first trip to Beacon. Even though Jaune’s Aura minimized his risk of getting sick, Yang took no chances.
Jaune ran over to her and gave her a gentle hug before looking over her shoulder at the intimidating presence of Taiyang. “It’s great to see you, Yang.” He told his girlfriend. “Mister Xiao Long, it’s nice to meet you.” Jaune greeted the older man as respectfully as he could. Taiyang stared at him for a few moments before a large grin broke out across his face and Jaune’s outstretched hand was ignored in favor of a spine-crushing bear hug.
“Call me Tai!” The man roared with laughter. “The way my Sunflower’s been talking about you, we’ll be family soon enough!” Yang turned bright red, even as Ruby hid even further within her cloak. “Don’t get me wrong.” Tai sobered up. “I was suspicious of you at first. No guy’s been important enough to Yang for her to bring home. That means a lot in my book; plus, my daughters haven’t stopped talking you up to me since school started. I guess you could say it’s like I know you already!” Jaune bit back a sigh of relief as Yang actually sighed before pushing herself between the knight and her father.
“Dad! Let my boyfriend go already.” Yang huffed before pushing the teacher away and nestling herself into Jaune’s side.
“I have to say, you two do look very good together.” Tai nodded approvingly before turning around. “Come on! It’s a lovely day, let’s walk!”
Jaune looked at his girlfriend who whispered, “He forgot to get gas, again.” Jaune stifled his grin before taking her hand and lacing their fingers together. “I’m glad you’re here.” She told him with a slight blush.
Jaune couldn’t contain his smile any longer as he looked Yang in the eyes. “I’m glad I’m here too.”
“You can both be glad back at the house.” Ruby grumbled before pushing them forwards. “Geez, can you save the lovey dovey stuff for in private, please?” The reaper asked as she passed them.
“Crater Face!” He called out, getting her attention as she turned around with a huge pout. “It’s good to see you too.” Ruby smiled before speeding off in a blur of rose petals. “Now, where were we?”
“Heading to my house via the scenic route.” Yang smiled as she sped up, the two of them jogging as Jaune let her pull him after her. The brawler showed him all her favorite places on the way to her house, and they even took a detour behind a building to have a short makeout session before hurrying towards the Xiao Long residence. “By the way, my uncle may or may not be here. He’s… different, to say the least. If the worst comes to worst, just start talking about alcohol. That’ll make him approve of you instantly.” Jaune frowned but shrugged as she knew her family the best.
“Welcome home!” Tai cheered as Ruby muttered it along with him. She wasn’t in a bad mood; Jaune’s best friend was just incredibly embarrassed that one of her friends met her dad. “What would you like to do first? Look at Yang’s baby pictures? Her yearbooks? The one ballet recital she did?” His girlfriend’s face got more and more red before he saw her eyes flicker red for the first time.
“Yang.” Jaune whispered in her ear, surprising her and stopping the rage from building up. “We don’t have to watch or see any of that.” He assured her.
“Aw, but she looks so cute with pigtails!” Ruby whined as Jaune and Tai both nodded. Yang’s family froze before looking between them. “Wait, Jaune… How do you know that?”
“I-I may or may not have let him braid my hair a few times…” Yang admitted with a huge blush. “Pigtails were just one of the hairstyles we tried out.”
“She looked especially adorable with twintails.” Jaune smiled as Yang’s blush deepened even further. “I found these purple ribbons, and us-” His girlfriend covered his mouth before glaring at him.
“If you want to see that again, I suggest you shut up.” Yang whispered menacingly as Jaune just nodded.
“Sunflower…” Tai began. “You must really be in love if you let him style your hair.” Yang’s blush returned as she hid behind Jaune. “Yang, that’s nothing to be embarrassed about!”
“It’s just so weird to hear you say stuff like that!” Yang shouted from behind her boyfriend. “Right, Rubes?”
“Yeah, Dad.” Ruby nodded. “You used to be ‘NO BOYS FOR MY DARLING DAUGHTERS!!” Ruby bellowed in a deep, gruff voice. Tai laughed before ruffling his youngest’s head.
“And that’s still true for you, Rosebud.” Ruby was redder than her cloak at that. “But I don’t have to worry about Yang anymore because look at how happy she is? She’s happier than she’s ever been.”
“No I’m not…” Yang muttered.
“Stop smiling then.” Jaune whispered, getting a pinch from her. “Your temper’s improved tremendously since we started dating, and you get in trouble less.” Yang looked up at him. “Yes, yes. I know that the latter is only so detention doesn’t get in the way of our dates, but still.”
“How often do you two go on dates?” Tai asked. “Fairly often, yes? Is that alright with you both?”
“We have a special date night every week, but we do spend time together or go places together all the time.” Yang nodded. “Sometimes it’s as simple as walking through the gardens together or playing video games.”
“On our date nights, we usually go to some place that we’ve wanted to go recently. A new movie, a new diner, that sort of thing.” Jaune finished for her. Tai smiled broadly before hugging them both.
“This week’s going to be so much fun!” Tai cheered as Jaune and Yang struggled to breathe. ‘I see where Ruby gets her enthusiasm now.’ Jaune thought. “Jaune, you’ll be sleeping in Yang’s room, but no grandchildren yet!” The couple blushed heavily, and Jaune could practically feel the heat coming off of Yang. Wait, nevermind. He could actually feel it. Huh, so intense embarrassment will do the same thing to her as anger does.
After the couple fled to the sanctuary of Yang’s room, the brawler sighed from relief. “He hasn’t been that happy in years.” Yang muttered. “Not since…” She trailed off, but Jaune knew what she was meaning. Yang kicked off her shoes and held her legs as she perched on her bed. “I’m glad he’s so happy, but…”
“It’s embarrassing, I know.” Jaune agreed as he sat next to her. She leaned her head on his shoulder, so Jaune wrapped his arm around her. “Still, I’m just happy to be here.” He looked around the room and saw that it was decorated much like her room at Beacon, except for one crucial thing: it was filled with stuffed animals.
“Don’t look…” Yang groaned. “It’s embarrassing.” She muffled her voice in his chest as she reached up to try and cover his eyes.
“Yang, Yang.” Jaune whispered to get her attention. “I think it’s cute that you have a hobby like this. You have auto manuals and stuffed animals side by side; what’s wrong with that? There’s a wall of video games and sci-fi/fantasy books? I’ve got one just like it in my room too. You know, I wanted to start a game with you, but didn’t know if you would like it.” Yang looked up at him. “A co-op RPG we could play together. I thought it’d be a nice couple’s activity.” Yang smiled at him. He leaned down close and whispered once more. “Besides, I’ve got a whole lot of stuffed animals in my room too.”
She smiled more, and bit back some laughs. “Really? No offense, but you don’t seem like the type.”
“Most of them were gifts from my sisters over the years.” Jaune shrugged. “Whether from my older sisters when I was a kid or from my little sisters when they couldn’t think of what I’d like.”
“I hope I can meet them someday.” Yang admitted as she leaned against him once again. “All of your sisters, I mean. Though, I don’t think they’d let us stay in the same room.”
“I don’t know…” Jaune groaned. “Mom and Joan have been dropping hints about wanting some grandchildren and nieces or nephews.”
“I-It’s too soon for that.” Yang stuttered. “Right?”
“I agree.” Jaune nodded. “Way too soon.”
The couple relaxed and enjoyed the bliss that came from being with the one that they loved. A moment’s peace before the whirlwind came back through, but it’d be a fun week regardless.
Meeting the Family, the Second Arc
When winter came around, the happy couple were invited to visit Ansel for the holidays. It was a family event, and Tai was already there. This time, it was Jaune who was waiting at the landing pad for Yang and Ruby to arrive. The minute the doors opened, Ruby sped out, shouting “Freedom!” at the top of her lungs. Jaune’s girlfriend stumbled out in a daze before her eyes locked onto Jaune.
“Jaune…” Yang muttered before her smile widened and she ran towards him. Jaune did the same, embracing her in a hug before they softly kissed. “Ruby tried to leave me with all the bags.” Yang pouted. “Not fair.”
“Were you tormenting her on the flight?” Jaune asked, getting a glare. “I know, I know. You’re just nervous, right?”
“No I’m not!” Yang denied but Jaune saw through her facade. He picked up all the bags and headed back towards his family with them. “I could’ve helped, you know.” Yang muttered as Jaune laughed a bit. “H-How did you know?” Yang asked. Jaune opened his mouth before stopping himself. Would he mention that Yang changed perfumes to try and seem more mature and put together? The makeup that was clearly painstakingly done to try and make a good impression? Her outfit that was much more formal than anything that she normally flew in? The way her hair was brushed for once and the lilac hair clip that he gave her on their six month anniversary was keeping her cowlick down? All of those were things Jaune noticed and used to realize that Yang was nervous, but the real reason was:
“Because I know you, Yang.” He assured her, brushing the back of his hand against hers. “I care about you, and I love you.” She looked away with a slight blush as she pulled her scarf up around her mouth.
“I love you too.” Yang mumbled through the scarf, but Jaune understood her. She was wearing a long brown duster with black pants and a yellow sweater. Her normal combat boots were exchanged for nicer ones that she probably thought wouldn’t make his parents think he brought home a ‘bad girl’.
The ride to the Arc estate was very awkward, mostly because of how Jaune’s sisters kept staring at the couple the whole way. Ruby was happy about that though as the attention was off of her for now. “So, Yang…” Violette, the only big sister in the car at the moment, began the interrogation. “What made you fall in love with our Jaune?”
“Vi…” Jaune groaned before the four other sisters in the car with them glared at him. “Go easy on her, for me?” His sisters pouted but nodded. “Promise?”
“We promise…” They mumbled. “Now!” Vi began again. “What made you fall in love with our Jaune?”
“Girls! There’ll be plenty of time for your interrogation at home.” Juniper Arc called out from the front. “Besides, you don’t want Joan to get upset at grilling Yang without her, do you?” The sisters paled as they all shook their heads. His mom winked at him through the rear-view mirror as Jaune and Yang breathed easier for a moment.
Alas, all good things must come to an end, and the happy couple had to face the music. At least Jaune got to stay in the room with Yang to try and keep the seven demons from scaring her off. Yang was fearless in many ways, but this kind of stuff scared her. No matter what she claimed, Jaune knew. “Before we get started, we should probably introduce ourselves.” Joan started.
Yang smiled and squeezed Jaune’s hand before pointing at the girls in order of age: “Joan, Saphron and Terra, Violette, Jeanne, Rouge, Blanche, and Noire.” She correctly identified each of them. Jaune remembered how amazed he was when she listed them off to him the first time. That’s probably when he fell even deeper in love with her than he already had. At that moment, he was ready to marry her. He still was, actually, though he knew they were too young.
“Baby bro,” Saph began as she held her wife’s hand. “She’s a keeper.” Terra smiled as well.
“Now, for the interrogation.” Joan leaned forward. “We’ll keep it short as I think we all approve after that show of affection, but we have a tradition to maintain” Yang and Jaune both blushed a little at that before his oldest sister continued. “Each of us will ask you one question. I’ll start and the little ones will end.” Blanche and Noire pouted at that. “When you can talk about holding hands without blushing, you’ll officially be big girls.” Joan told them as the pouts intensified. “That goes for you too, little red.” Rouge pouted as well at that. “The first question will be…” Joan always had a flair for the dramatic. “What was your first kiss like?”
“Starting off strong, huh?” Jaune asked. “Yang, are you alright with this?” He whispered as she nodded. “Knock ‘em dead.” He smiled.
“It actually kind of happened by accident.” Yang admitted. “This was before we got together, but during combat class, we were doing a lesson on fighting in pairs. Jaune and I were teamed up against our respective partners as a lesson in adaptability. My partner’s weapon has something akin to a whip-form, so she tripped me up with that while Jaune held off his partner as long as he could. I got knocked into him and the next thing I knew, our lips were pressed together.” Yang smiled. “Our first real kiss though was after our first date, in front of Marcus Arc’s statue at Beacon, and it was perfect. I can’t describe how much joy and bliss merely kissing Jaune gave me, and those feelings have only gotten more powerful ever since.”
Jaune smiled back at her as all the sisters went “aww…” before chanting “Kiss, Kiss, Kiss, Kiss!” The couple sighed before looking at each other and shrugging before exchanging a short, sweet kiss.
Saphron cleared her throat before speaking up. “Terra and I are asking a question together, if you don’t mind. We’ve been on the other side of this interrogation, so we’ll keep it short and simple.” Then she smiled. ‘Oh no.’ Jaune thought as he recognized that smile. “How many children do you want?” Yang turned bright red as her eyes went dull for a few seconds. “I think I broke her.” Saph mock-whispered.
“You weren’t any better when Vi asked you that question.” Every other Arc (plus Terra) reminded her in unison.
“A-A few, at least.” Yang admitted, drawing everyone’s attention. “Two at the very least.” The older sisters smiled at that while the younger ones looked confused, including Jeanne sadly enough.
“My turn!” Vi sang as she danced in her seat. “Now, back to my original question.” She dramatically cleared her throat. “What made you fall in love with our Jaune?”
Yang looked down for a moment before smiling brilliantly. “He was kind to my sister, and never treated me any differently than any other girl. That’s where it started, at least. As I got to know him, I began to notice how he always paid attention to what I said and even laughed at a few of my jokes, even though we both knew they weren’t that good. When some bullies harassed a friend of ours, he didn’t hesitate before confronting them. All of that got the ball rolling for me to fall in love with him, but it wasn’t until he defended me from false rumors and accusations that I fell, head over heels, for him.” Yang smiled at him as she squeezed his hand. He remembered that day. Some idiots were claiming to have slept with her when she rejected them easily. They were spreading rumors about how she led everyone on just to dump them coldly, and it hurt her. Especially as her own team couldn’t fully defend her in good faith. None of them went with her to those bars and clubs she frequented, but that shouldn’t have mattered. They should’ve supported her, so Jaune chose to be there for her.
“That’s so sweet!” Vi squealed. All the sisters were smiling from ear to ear at that. “Alright, Jeannie! Your question.”
“I know!” Jeanne pouted. “Don’t call me Jeannie!” His twin sister huffed. “Yang, Jaune’s already told us a lot about you, so the only question I have is…” Were all his sisters so dramatic? “When are you two getting married?!” She squealed happily as the other six joined in. Jaune and Yang turned red as Terra sighed.
“Jeannie!” Jaune shouted as she looked like a deer in the headlights. “I told you! It’s too soon to even talk about that kind of stuff!”
“Jaune, you’ve been thinking about marriage?” Yang asked. “R-Really?” She gulped. “A-Are you sure?”
“Yang, you memorized all seven of my sisters by age and by height, without any prompting or mention from me at all.” Jaune told her softly. “The first thing that popped into my mind then was ‘I want to marry this girl.’” Yang’s blush deepened, but a soft smile refused to leave her face. “I never mentioned it to you because I knew we were too young, and I wasn’t sure if we were that serious yet.”
“Seriously?” Yang asked in a soft voice. “You want to marry me?” Jaune nodded. “Then, I accept. Whenever you get around to asking, you know my answer.” Yang shook off the blush. “That better not be for a year or so though! At least!”
Jaune nodded again. “Like I told my little sister,” He glared at Jeanne who wilted. “We’re too young for marriage.”
Blanche and Noire raised their hands, but didn’t wait before asking a question. “Does this mean Yang will be another big sis?” They asked in unison. “Someday?”
Before the couple could answer, Jaune’s big sisters answered in stereo. “Yes.” They smiled cheekily at Jaune as he sighed.
“Rouge, you’re the last question.” Jaune muttered, trying to get this over with.
“C-Can you ask Ruby to be my friend?” Rouge asked quietly. “Ever since you left, I haven’t had anyone to talk weapons or video games with.” Jaune and Yang smiled before nodding. “Really?” Rouge beamed before tackling them with a bear hug. “I can’t wait until you’re my fifth big sis!” She told Yang before skipping off to who knows where.
One by one, each of the Arc sisters gave the couple a hug before leaving them alone to recover from the ordeal. “So…” Jaune began. “I don’t think any of their questions missed the m Arc for once.” Yang giggled a bit before leaning onto his shoulder.
“That was exhausting. Even more than I expected.” Yang admitted. “I don’t think I can take yang ing out with them all the time.” Jaune smiled at that before kissing the top of her head. “I’m glad you like the hair clip though.” Yang commented. “I saw you looking at it. I wore it for you.”
“Yang, I like you.” Jaune told her once more. “Whether you’re in a fancy dress, your usual clothes, or a potato sack, I love you just the same.” Jaune smiled before Yang drew him into a gentle kiss once more.
“I love you too, you dork.” Yang sighed. “Even if you wear a stupid hoodie with a bunny on it.” Jaune smirked at that, knowing who wore it most of the time nowadays (hint, she stole it and sleeps in it now). “Now, let’s not keep your family waiting.” She made to get up, only for him to pull her down into his lap.
“You know, after that interrogation, I think we need a little more time to unwind. They can wait a little longer.” Jaune whispered into her ear before starting a makeout session that didn’t end until the sounds of cooing and squealing finally made it into their lovestruck heads.
The End.
