“If Hawkass sends one more Akuma after midnight this week I swear when we find him I’m going to shove a butterfly so far up his –“ Marinette grumbled, pulling her Chat Noir hoodie closer to her body in an attempt to keep warm. The even in the classroom, she could feel the air getting colder as winter crept ever closer. The side effects of using a Miraculous for so long at such a young age were finally starting to show. The massive and warm hug from her boyfriend sitting next to her stopped her tirade. She could feel his chest rumbling, he was purring to calm her down. “The threat still stands.” She felt compelled to remind him as she nuzzled into his chest, at least she stopped sharing her rather graphic plans for Hawk Moth when they finally find him.
Adrien looked down at his partner with a fond smile. They never got to class before anyone else… except on days where Hawk Moth decided that sleep was for normal people and woke them up at a brisk 2:30 a.m. with a very loud Akuma Alarm going off in their bedrooms. It took them three hours. THREE HOURS. To find and purify the Akuma, only because it kept teleporting around Paris turning the fight into the biggest game of hide-and-go-seek. Ladybee and Bronco Noir were seen all over Paris trying to catch up with the slippery Akuma. Every single time they thought that they had the Akuma cornered it managed to slip away from their grasp. The only good thing about the attack happening so early in the morning. None of the news crews were out filming, not even Alya. So only a few eyewitnesses saw the sheer stupiditiy of the two shining heroes of Paris running around like a chicken with their heads cut off. “I’m not going to stop you butttt…. Are you sure that the classroom is the a-paw-priate place to rant about paw-blic enemy numfur 1?”
“Unless our class became Hawk Moth sympathizers overnight, I’m sure I’m fine kitty.” Marinette replied a soft smile on her lips. Between his warmth and her exhaustion a quiet yawn slipped through her lips, her eyelids feeling heavier by the minute. “Maybe… maybe we should talk… about the whole midnig-“ Before she could finish her sentence, Marinette drifted off to sleep.
Adrien chuckled as he heard the soft snoring of his partner,” sleep well bugaboo. We can talk about that after you get some rest.” He glanced quickly around the room to see if anyone came in while they were talking. Seeing no one else, he glanced down to where his bag was sitting on the floor. “Hey Plagg, can you get me my phone? Mari fell asleep on me.”
A muffled, “fineee” came from the bag as Plagg pulled Adrien’s phone out and placed it on the bench. The Kwami lazily flew back into the back and emerged one more time with airpods in his paws, setting those next to the phone.
“Thanks Plagg, you are the best. We can get cheese bread during lunch.” Adrien promised, knowing that Sabine’s cheese bread was Plagg’s second favorite food. He grabbed his airpods and placed on in his right ear and started playing some music. Feeling Marinette getting comfortable on the hard wood bench he switched his phone into camera mode and took a selfie of them. Saving the photo onto his phone, Adrien pulled his arm back and started swiping through his social media. It’s been weeks since he publicly announced Marinette being his girlfriend and people were still making posts about how he was now officially off the market. Though one article caught his eye, a debate on if his and Marinette’s new relationship would finally take down Paris’ undisputed power couple… Ladybug and Chat Noir. A chuckle escaped his lips as he read through the article. Somehow, they’ve secured the number one and two spot for top power couples without even trying. He saved the link for later to show Marinette after she woke up.
Hearing the door open, Adrien’s attention shifted from his phone to the other students starting to file into the room. To try limit the amount of Akumas attracted to the school, it was decided that students would be kept together in the same class all the way through graduation. Which was great for the most part, he got to spend more time with his friends during class. The only problem is that meant that a certain girl was also stuck with him until they graduated. Speak of the devil and she shall appear, Lila walked into the classroom speaking rather loudly about something. He felt Marinette start to shift in his arms and his attention quickly turned back to his partner. He wanted to let her sleep through the entire day, unfortunately today’s lecture was supposed to be important about an upcoming project so he would need to wake her up soon.
“Oh yeah, I heard about the Akuma attack last night. I was there after all.” Lila proudly announced, drawing the attention of almost everyone in the room. The only people in the room who chose to ignore her outrageous claims were Adrien and Chloe. Marinette was still asleep in Adrien’s arms.
Adrien couldn’t stop himself from rolling his eyes at Lila’s statement. Every attempt to out Lila as a liar resulted in her manipulating the situation to make it look like she was the victim. It was really getting on his nerves that they couldn’t do anything to stop her. The only positive thing was that she couldn’t hang off him anymore due to Marinette being his girlfriend. He knew that she wasn’t the Akumatized victim and no one else got dragged into the attack. The Akuma opened personal portals that disappeared within seconds and didn’t target anyone else. “Oh really? I heard rumors that whoever sounded the Akuma alarm this morning was pulling a prank. There’s no footage of the attack after all.” Adrien couldn’t turn his body to look at Lila to see her reaction. Normally he would keep quiet whenever Lila was talking, but he was running on only a couple of hours of sleep for the last couple of days. Coffee, energy drinks, and spite were the only things keeping him awake at this point.
A fake gasp came from Lila’s lips. “You think I’m lying Adrien?”
“I’m not saying you are Lila. I’m just saying all I heard were the rumors on the internet this morning that it was a false alarm. I don’t know because the attack wasn’t near my house last night so I don’t know who to believe.” Adrien explained, pulling the single Airpod out of his ear and back into the charging case.
“Could you tell us more about the attack? Maybe that will convince Adrien you are telling the truth!” Rose innocently suggested.
“I’m interested to hear more Lila.” Adrien innocently smiled, as he rubbed Marinette’s arms to wake her up. Whatever lies Lila would tell next should provide a bit of entertainment before class started.
Despite Adrien’s (rather weak) attempts to wake Marinette up, she continued to sleep peacefully.
“Only because you are my friends and I can trust you guys.” Lila reluctantly agreed after a few moments. “Ladybug woke me up at about 4 in the morning asking for my help. She told me that the Akuma was giving her and Chat Noir a difficult time and that they needed help.”
“Really? I thought Ladybug and Chat Noir didn’t use auxiliary heroes after midnight.” Chloe spoke up, not bothering to turn around to look at the liar.
“It’s because they don’t want to wake anyone up. But I told my best friend that she could ask for my help anytime. She apologized to me several times for waking me up, saying that they couldn’t do this without me.” Lila replied, rubbing her eye to make it look like she was tired from helping during the attack.
“Are you sure it was Ladybug and Chat Noir?” Adrien asked, as he flipped through Instagram to see if anyone caught sight of Ladybee or Bronco Noir and had footage of them.
“Who else would it be?”
“Monday it was Pegabug and Snake Noir. Tuesday it was Snakebug and Dragon Noir. Wednesday it was Dragonbug and Tortue Noir.” Adrien listed off all the unifications they’ve used the last several nights because Marinette didn’t want to wake up any of the auxiliary holders. “Seems strange that they wouldn’t be using two Miraculous last night after using two the rest of the week.”
“Last night was Ladybee and whatever Chat Noir using the Horse Miraculous is called.” Alya spoke up from the entrance of the classroom. “I just had a fan e-mail me pictures of the duo last night. Apparently, they were teleporting all over Paris last night and ended up on her street a couple of times.”
“That was after they asked for my help.” Lila quickly explained, cursing Alya’s timing. “They asked me to watch over a section of Paris and let them know if I spotted the Akuma. I never saw them after that, so I didn’t know that they powered up.”
Adrien was about to respond before he felt Marinette shifting around in his arms. Glancing down at her, he saw her hands cupped together and a pink light glowing from her hands. “Buginette?” He whispered to her; he tried to sound concerned. Unfortunately, the excitement of being near her when she activated her power was too much to contain. He could feel his own power begging to get let out, letting go of Marinette. He then pulled his bag onto the bench and searched for anything that he wouldn’t mind destroying. Just in case he needed it for later. Finding a small bouncy ball at the bottom of his bag, Adrien shoved it into his pocket.
With his object secured, Adrien turned his attention back to what Marinette was making. Once the light disappated, what was left in her hands was a very familiar box. It only took him a second to realize that Marinette made a replica of a Miraculous box. A Chat Noir grin appeared on the model’s lips as he could see where she was going with this. “You know that cat is out of the bag if you go along with this.”
“Literally everyone but Lie-la is a holder or on my list of possible future holders. This is my chance to wipe that smug look off her face. Something I’ve wanted to do since she threatened me in the bathroom earlier this year.” Marinette explained, opening the box to reveal a silver ring with a large cubic zirconia gem in the center of the band with smaller gems running to the left and side of the main gem.
“She threatened you??”
Marinette shifted the box into her left hand and wrapped her fingers around his hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. “I… didn’t mean to tell you that. But it’s fine, I’m fine.”
“This conversation is not over. “
A quick peck on his cheek and Marinette was already scooting off the bench to hand out a new ‘Miraculous’. Walking over to Lila’s seat, Marinette cleared her throat and the group surrounding the liar parted allowing Marinette to look at Lila directly. “Lila Rossi, here is the Miraculous of the Liar which grants the power of being a royal pain in the ass to everyone around you.” Marinette started out, presenting Lila with the box she made the room going silent. “You will use it to remind yourself that constantly lying will get you nowhere but trouble and for the greater good of everyone’s sanity. You do not need to return this Miraculous to me. However, if you choose to do so I want an apology to everyone in this room for every single lie you’ve told them.” With that said she placed the box on Lila’s desk and returned to her spot next to Adrien. “Oh and Alya. He picked Bronco Noir if you wanted to add that to the post.”
Another yawn escaped Marinette’s lips as she sat down and rested her head on Adrien’s chest one more time. “Unless there’s a disaster or Akuma attack… next person to wake me up is getting thrown off the Eiffel Tower.” She then fell right back asleep.
A few moments of silence as the classroom put Marinette’s actions and words together before all attention returned to Lila. Outcries of rage and disappointment echoed throughout the room. Amist the chaos, Chloe slid out of from behind her desk and walked over to Adrien and Marinette. She dropped off sound noise canceling headphones with a wink.
A silent thank you came from Adrien’s lips as he worked the headphones onto Marinette’s head before slipping a pair on himself. Might as well take a quick cat nap before someone gets Akumatized over this.
