The vampire groaned as she came to, lifting her head back up. She was sitting in the single seater couch in the living quarters of the motel room her and the crew were staying in. In her hand she still held her phone, which had been continuing to play the martial arts action movie while she was out. Maki lifted it back up and continued watching. She didn't bother rewinding, she had seen it many times since her childhood. From a young age, she had always enyoyed watching Chinese martial arts movies, although she currently was only picking up bits and pieces as her head was constantly lolling.
She'd been passing out repeatedly for the past two days, because, to put it mildly, she was starving. She hadn't fed in over a month, and she hadn't been able to get more blood packs as they were currently laying low after incurring the wrath of the oni crime lord Otakemaru. A lesser vampire would be in feral bloodlust by now, but Maki had developed a masterful control over her vampiric urges, one that was almost supernatural by the standards of the supernatural. But even she couldn't keep this up. She did take solace in the fact that by the time she eventually did lose it, she would be far too weak to be much of a threat to anyone.
Two days ago, her crew had been in a battle with a bunch of shapeshifters, and due to her hunger induced weakness, she had sustained a couple of injuries. Thankfully, none were severe enough to impede a vampire too much, but she wasn't able to heal her wounds when she hadn't had any blood in so long. She was so dazed, she didn't even hear the ginger haired girl approach her.
Nobara took the sight of Maki in as she lay there trying to focus on the phone in her hand. Maki was impeccably dressed as always. Her elegant attire consisted of tight fitting dark brown pants, a white dress shirt, the tails of which were long and pointed, stretching down past her waist. She wore a dark brown leather corset as well as vambraces on her forearms made of the same material, allowing the cuffs of her shirt to flare out, as well as heeled, calf high leather boots. Over it all she wore a form-fitting black leather jacket with loose, elbow length sleeves and a belt around her hips from which she hung her sword. As usual, she let her hair hang loose, creating a cascade of emerald down her shoulders and back.
Nobara smiled a little. Maki looked like a kitten trying to stay awake, vacantly staring at her phone as her head slowly drooped before she groggily lifted it back up, only for it to start lolling again almost immediately. "Can you even tell what's going on there?" Nobara teased. "Huh?" Maki lifted her head up, taking a few seconds to focus and finally seeing her. "Oh, hi Nobara," her voice was weak, but her face lit up at the sight of her, a weak smile gracing her face. The hunter was clad in tight black jeans, a grey tank top, black lace up boots, a red leather jacket and her gun and knife on her belt. She was still clad in her day clothes, despite the late hour. But this had become a trend with her, staying up late to keep Maki company.
With Maki being a vampire and Nobara being a hunter, the two should have been mortal enimies. When they had met, that had been the case, but Nobara had underestimated Maki and been defeated. She had accepted that that was where she was going to die, however, Maki didn't do anything, she simply ran away. Nobara's team had encountered Maki again on another job, where they both were on the trail of the same gang of tengu. They had formed a temporary alliance, over which they learned that Maki was not as monstrous as the rest of her kind. They all became friends over the mission, and when it was over, their leader, Gojo, invited her to join their team permanently. An offer which Maki accepted.
Nobara and Maki had become especially close friends. And then, more than friends. It took Nobara a little while to realize she was in love with a girl, she had always expected to end up with a guy. She had found herself craving her presence and after that, something more. The first time their lips locked, they felt a power that neither of them had before, one that seemed to obliterate the entire world except for them, and make a moment last a lifetime. They kept their relationship a secret from the rest of the crew, not because they wanted to hide it, but because they thought it would be fun to see how long they could.
Many nights the two of them would sneak out of wherever they were staying and hit the town, spend some time in nature, and many times find a private place where they would bare their bodies and souls to each other, tangling and writhing under the moonlight as their songs of union filled the night.
Nobara's smile went away as her demeanor turned serious. "Maki, when last did you drink?" Maki's smile went away. "A little under two weeks," she said. "Maki," Nobara's voice was stern. Maki cursed internally. She couldn't hide anything from her, even less so without all her mental faculties. She sighed in resignation, "I ran out of blood packs over a month ago," Nobara's eyes widened, "why didn't you say anything?" Nobara demanded. "Because we've been having so much trouble with this oni bastard! He always seems one step ahead of us. He knows about me, he'll be watching the blood banks, waiting for us,"
Nobara crossed her arms, "We're raiding a blood bank tomorrow, I'll talk to Gojo and the rest of the crew and we'll carry it out, you will stay here," Nobara stated unwaveringly. "No..." Maki started, "non negotiable," Nobara interrupted, making the fact clear. Her facial features softened and she leaned forward a bit. "Maki, we need you. You're a danger to yourself like this. Whatever Otakemaru has waiting for us at the blood banks will be nothing compared to trying to take him down without you," "mmm," Maki looked down. She was right.
The hunter stood back up, and a mischievous smile crept onto her face, "as for now," Nobara drew her knife. Maki looked up to see Nobara place the blade against the tip of her forefinger. Her eyes widened a bit, "Nobara! What are you..." her thoughts were interrupted when the smell of Nobara's blood hit her. Her body froze and her eyes opened fully. All of her senses were at attention.
Nobara walked up to Maki, closing the distance between them and held her finger out to Maki. "Go, on," she said, "drink up," Maki stared at the drop of blood forming on the wound. It dripped to the floor and the sound it made as it hit was almost deafening. Maki's eyelids drooped as she slowly opened her mouth and leaned forward to take in Nobara's blood. Nobara drew her hand back a little bit, causing Maki to look up at her, confused. "No biting, okay?" Nobara said teasingly. Maki simply nodded, before her eyes returned to Nobara's hand.
Maki leaned the rest of the way to Nobara's digit. She opened her mouth more and stuck her tongue out, and Nobara placed her fingerip onto the wet muscle. Maki's tounge undulated against her girlfriend's finger. She let out a small breathy moan as she got her first drink in ages, her red irises beginning to glow. Her tongue continued to move hungrily as she savored the taste of Nobara's blood. To drink someone's blood was to drink from their soul, so to a vampire, each persons blood had a different taste. Maki could get drunk on Nobara's, it was sweet, and tasted like rose and strawberries.
Nobara couldn't help but smile as she watched Maki. Eyes half closed, gaze vacant, red irises glowing, her tongue slick with a mix of saliva and blood and making little noises of satisfaction from the back of her throat. Maki leaned in further and took Nobara's finger halfway into her mouth. Nobara simply watched her, suckling like a baby.
This went on for a good while, until Maki felt Nobara start to pull her hand back. Maki opened her mouth to release the finger, her tongue staying against it and following as far as it could before it finally broke away, a trail of saliva and blood connecting the two until it broke. Maki sat there, panting. "Feel better?" Nobara asked. It took Maki a moment to muster up her answer, "yeah," she panted breathlessly, it was all she could muster. She realized her wounds were slowly starting to heal. "Thank you," she managed to get out. Nobara smiled, "hm, now get some rest, I'll see you tomorrow," She turned and headed off to her room. Maki lay back in the chair. She thought she should take Nobara's advice, she could really use some sleep right now. She got up and lay down on the couch. She closed her eyes and enjoyed the contented feeling for the short time before sleep claimed her.
