Mika sighed, her soft "nnah" echoing through the empty kitchen as she stirred a pot of soup on the stove. Shu was... currently very sick. It wasn't often her immune system failed her, but when it did... it was bad.
Shu's whole personality does a 180° while she's sick. Her normal strict and demanding demeanor turns childish and giggly when she has a cold.
Mika bit her fingernails (Shu's voice scolding her in her head) as the she turned the stove off, opening a few cabinets for the necessary utensils and a tray to take the food to her sickly partner.
She pours a generous amount into a bowl and sets it on the tray along with a piece of bread, some water, and a piece of strawberry candy for good luck. She hums a tune and climbs the stairs, taking in a deep breath before turning the knob to Shu's room.
"Oshi-san! 'M comin' in-"
"Mmmmmiiiiikkkkkkkkaaaaaaaaaaa!!!"
Mika yelped as Shu called her name, barely able to set the tray down before Shu was stumbling into her arms. Shu coughed a bit before nuzzling into the other girls neck.
Mika choked, wrapping an arm around the other to steady them both. They definitely shouldn't be this close while Shu has a cold but... Mika was only so strong. How could she pass up a chance at seeing her Oshi-san this clingy!
"Oshi-san! I told ya not to leave yer bed!! Yer sick and need t-to rest!" Mika (attempted) scolding the other. But her words went in through one ear and out the other.
Shu hugged her tighter, covering her mouth to cough again.
"Mmmmm..... I don't wanna! You went away..." She whined.
Mika silently prayed.
She was not God's strongest soldier.
"It was to make yer food! See! Let's get back in bed so you can eat, 'kay?" Mika (reluctantly) pulls Shu away from her to lead her back into bed. Shu huffs and rubs her eyes, following the other girl anyway.
Shu was still dressed in her nightgown, one of the thin straps falling off her shoulder. (Mika dared not look despite the temptation). Her long pink hair lay tousled and tangled against her back.
Not-sick-Shu would never in a million years ever be seen this way by anybody. She always took the utmost care of herself, neatly doing her hair and ironing her clothes to perfection.
Mika loved her regardless, of course, but something about the clingy, messy, giggly Shu was so cute!
Mika quickly ushered her unitmate into bed, watching her sink into her soft pillows and blankets with a giggle and a sneeze. Mika chuckled and whispered a soft "bless ya" before going to pick up the tray of food (which has now gone cold.... sigh.)
She sits at the edge of Shu's bed, watching her mess with her blankets and push her hair out of her face before she smiles big at Mika. The younger of the two sucked in a breath.
Shu's smile was always so beautiful. Even while she was in this kind of state... everything about her was beautiful. Mika felt blessed to be the one to see this kind of sight.
Shu wraps herself in one of the fluffy blankets, covering all of herself except her reddened face.
"Ya ready to eat now, Oshi-san?"
Mika knew Shu would have her head if she ever attempted to eat in bed. Especially soup! But... today had to be an exception, right? Not like she'd remember of course...
"Mhm! Will you feed me, Mi-ka~?" Shu giggled, being cut off by a cough yet again. She didn't seem too phased though, much more occupied with teasing her partner.
Mika was ready to explode any second now.
Shu was going to kill her once she felt better.
And honestly? Mika would die happy.
She swallowed thickly.
"Are ya sure...? Nnah..." Mika fiddled with her thumbs for a moment.
"Mmmmhm-! Hurry up, I'm hungry!" Shu whined and closed her eyes, opening her mouth a bit to be fed.
Yeah. Yeah this was the end for poor little Mika Kagehira. God should take her now.
Mika squeaked and reached for the soup, stirring the food before putting a spoonful in Shu's mouth.
Shu hums and swallows, smiling at Mika after.
"Mm... you did a good job with the food Mi~ka."
Mika was starting to feel dizzy.
"T-thank ya kindly, Oshi-san...!"
Shu hums and Mika feeds her another spoonful, face as red as red can get.
-
Shu stretches her arms over her head and snuggles into her bed again as Mika takes the dirty dishes back downstairs. The combination of a full tummy, soft sheets, and a warm room made the sickly artist quite sleepy now...
Mika quietly slipped back into Shu's room to see if she had fallen asleep, gently tugging on her blankets to properly tuck her in. She shuts off the light next to Shu's bed, ready to tiptoe out.
Shu huffed and before Mika could stumble over apologies for waking her, she had been tugged right into the bed face to face with a giggling Shu.
Mika gasped, her face instantly heating up. Her brain had officially short circuited. Yep. God had taken her. She had died and gone to heaven.
Shu nuzzled into Mika's neck, her pink hair tickling the younger girl.
"Oshi-san-! What are ya doin-!"
"Goodness.... 'Oshi-san this' and 'Oshi-san that'... call me by my name, will you?" Shu hummed, voice low. Her eyes were half-lidded, her sweet voice laced with sleepiness.
"Huh? Yer... name? I can't do that-!"
"Sure you can, Mi-ka~" Shu chuckled again, closing her eyes now.
The way Shu stretched out Mika's name... as if she were tasting it on her tongue this whole time...
Mika sucked in another breath before sighing it out. Not like she'd remember it, right...?
"Nnah... alright, g'night, Shu."
Shu's breathing had already leveled out having succumb to sleep before Mika could speak.
Mika knew she should detach herself and head to her own room... she knew she'd catch the cold from her in the morning... yet it just felt impossible to tear herself away from the warmth.
She resigned herself to her fate, letting her eyes flutter shut as sleep overtook her as well.
-
Shu's eyes slowly peeled themselves open and she was met with pure warmth... her cheek lay against something quite soft! It felt a bit foreign though...? And it was... moving???
Shu gasped and immediately shot up in bed, her eyes quickly adjusting to the light as she was met with Mika's sleeping form under her.
Was she-?!
Did they-?!?
"N-non!!" Shu immediately shrieked, immediately backing away and almost falling right off the bed.
Mika's dual colored eyes snapped open and she gasped, actually falling off the bed.
"O-oshi-san!!"
"Kagehira?! God- are you okay?? Don't just-!" Shu couldn't even finish her sentence as she was already crawling to Mika's side to see if she was alright, concern adamant in her eyes.
"Nnah..." Mika whined and rubbed her head. "W-what gives Oshi-san?!"
"You-! You were in my bed! While I was sick, no less!!" Shu's face was about as pink as her hair at this point, embarrassment evident all over.
"That's cause ya wouldn't let me go!!!"
Shu groaned and hid her face in her hands, letting herself fall back into her sheets. What a way to be shot down!
Mika let out a shaky exhale before properly sitting up, shaking her head to get her hair out of her face. Pink dusted her own cheeks as she remembers the events leading to their current situation.
Before Shu could speak another word, perhaps to ask about the previous night...
Mika let out a few short sneezes.
Shu sighed and rubbed her temples.
"Get up, Kagehira. It's my turn to care for you it seems."
"It's fine, Oshi-san, promise-!"
"Non! Get up, Kagehira! Don't make me repeat myself. All forms of illness no matter how small or insignificant must be treated immediately. Valkyrie will not fall behind due to incompetent immune systems!" She scolded.
Mika squeaked and scrambled to her feet, swaying ever so slightly. Good to see Shu back to her ol' self, huh?
"Goodness. Perhaps you're better off in bed. Go on! Get to your room!" Shu huffed and got herself out of bed, ushering the shorter girl out before attempting to straighten out her bedhead.
"And," She started, turned away from Mika, "Forget everything that happened yesterday, understand? Not a word of... whatever happened will leave this room."
Mika blinked a few times before she giggled. She gave Shu a bright smile and a nod before reluctantly retreating to her own room.
You couldn't pay this girl enough to forget the events of last night.
Unfortunately for the other, the embarrassment of her actions from the previous night had very much gotten to her. She could very vividly remember what she had said and done.
What really got to her though... was just how softly Mika had whispered her name. Her name! Not Itsuki- but her given name! Shu!!
Red crept up on her cheeks again as she hid her face in her hands. It would be a while before she could look Mika in the eyes without remembering.
Shu sucked in a deep breath and ignored the fluttering feeling in her chest as she left her room to prepare to care for her partner for the day.
