Work Text:
It was Peter's first big Avengers party where he was finally meeting all the Avengers. He'd only actually met Tony, Rhodey and briefly Natasha before this. He couldn't mess this up.
Tony guided him in with a hand on his shoulder and a grin on his face. Peter was introduced to each of the Avengers as Tony's intern since he wasn't quite ready for them all to know he was spiderman. He suspected Natasha and Clint may have already figured it out though...
Peter tried to be chill about it all but really when he was being introduced to The Doctor Bruce Banner what was he supposed to do?!
"Dr Banner! Oh my gosh this is so cool! You're-"
"The hulk I know..."
"No! I mean yeah but you're one of the greatest scientists alive! You're work is incredible!" Once Peter got started on his ramble it was hard to get him to stop.
Many of the nearby heroes had stopped their conversations to stare at the literal child babbling on about advanced scientific theories that very few adults could even begin to understand. Bruce was frozen in pleasant surprise as he listened to the kid rant about his achievements and Tony just stood grinning proudly. That was his kid. His kid was awesome.
The time came to eat and they had a range of delicious food. It was all really good but for some reason when the dessert arrived his spider sense started buzzing faintly. Not quite enough to be seriously worried but enough to a little concerned.
Peter glanced around a little trying to find what was wrong. Everyone else was already digging in and were all fine so it probably wasn't poisoned. He couldn't see any other potential causes.
Shrugging to himself, Peter started eating his lemon cake.
It only took a few moments for him to realise what was wrong.
It wasn't only his spider sense that was tingling now. His mouth and throat felt weird.
"Mr Stark?" He hesitantly interrupted his mentor. "I think something's wrong..."
Tony turned to look at him and his eyes widened. "Holy shit, kid, you're all swollen up!"
The others' attention all snapped to him in an instant. Bruce shot up to look. "Peter, open your mouth please."
When he did they all saw why it was wrong. His tongue and throat were starting to swell and looking elsewhere they could see hives starting to break out on his skin.
"He's having an allergic reaction to something. Do you have an EpiPen, Peter?" Bruce asked.
Peter frantically shook his head. He didn't even know he had any allergies!
"We gotta get him to the medbay now!"
Tony immediately picked him up and he and Bruce rushed to the tower's medical floor.
It was getting harder to breathe.
Peter couldn't really tell what was happening anymore but he knew he'd been placed on a bed and there was people rushing around. He felt himself slip out of consciousness.
When he woke up it was to the feeling of soft sheets and a hand carding through his hair. He blinked his eyes open and saw Tony's concerned face. "Hey Underoos." He smiled. "Good to see you back in the land of the living."
"Wha' happened?" Peter slurred, not quite fully awake.
"You apparently forgot to tell me you can't eat citrus." Tony said raising an eyebrow.
Peter blinked up at him confused. He'd had citrus plenty of times before... Then it hit him. Spiders are repelled by citrus.
Tony watched the kid realise what was going on and sighed fondly. He ruffled his hair. "What are we gonna do with you, bambino?"
